This place is kind of a hidden gem and one of my friend's favorite. We came here to celebrate a birthday and I really like the BBQ selection. The galbi and prime rib steak were my favorite and very well marinated. The grill tray cooks everything up so fast. Great pricing for AYCE. Service is also very quick. Please come and create your own adventure.

Star BBQ is so close to where I grew up and I can't believe I've never been here. We came here late at night around ~11pm and there was a wait for about 15 minutes. Once we were seated, our server immediately took our orders. It's spacious inside and didn't feel cramped even though it was fully booked and busy. The meat portions here are HUGE so definitely don't over-order! We got the more expensive menu because I love beef tongue. It's so hard to find cheap kbbq spots that have beef tongue so this was great! The other meat cuts were also delicious, and my favs were the beef tongue and boneless short rib. They had some sides but I wish there was a bit more variety because I quickly got tired of the meats. For dessert they had a froyo bar but it looked like it hadn't been cleaned all day and was a huge mess so I didn't really feel like getting that many things. An okay addition to the end of our meal but it would be just fine without it too!

Great value Korean BBQ spot in Garden Grove. The AYCE dinner is $32 and you get a lot for the price. It's very family friendly -- kids 5-8 are half price and kids under 4 eat free. They also offer 10% off if you pay cash, and that includes free drinks. At the end of the meal they even give free ice cream, which the kids loved. The atmosphere is lively and the staff are friendly and attentive. Overall a solid and affordable AYCE BBQ option in Garden Grove, especially for families.

Ambience is pretty typical of a KBBQ restaurant but the service was great! Really accommodating and helpful for our large party :) Meat was pretty good, you pay for what you get!

IT DOES THE JOB. Okay, it's not the highest quality nor the cleanest KBBQ, but, again, it does the job and won't burn a hole into your wallet. For the lowest level dinner on a weekend, it was $27.99 with some more premium items being only 1 per person. You can add yourself to their Yelp waitlist and the wait wasn't so bad when we were there. About 20 or so minutes? At least enough time to grab a matcha from Airoma Cafe (when the cafe had no line). The parking lot can get fisted, so potentially keep that in mind. The women's restroom when I went was clean enough. I think the only con aside from the cheapness and quality factor, is that you can't adjust the fan for the stoves. Even at maximum strength, it was still blowing smoke into our friend's eyes the entire night. Pain! I think the most amusing thing of ordering the meat here is that it comes out huge semi-cold blocks. No problem since you can cook it, but I have never seen that at any other KBBQ before. Usually it's laid out on a tray or at least it's flattened, here its like they know that they're just feeding the horde. Despite this, the meat was fine, cooked normally and tasted all right. Can never go wrong with the top blade, brisket, and thinly sliced pork belly. The grill is angled so that grease and oil drop down into the vat. We also go their tofu soup and corn cheese which was decent. The steamed egg was the flattest and saddest one that I've ever seen, lots of air bubbles in it and the Korean noodle soup wasn't cooked all the way as the noodles were still blocked and stuck together. If I had to, I'd skip these 2 dishes. We also kept ordering their salad and sliced onions and garlic to enhance the flavor of food, not bad. There's free frozen yogurt at the end (turn off your brain if it doesn't look the cleanest), but the only flavor available was pineapple, no swirl, but that's alright. There were toppings too. Overall not bad for what it was.

Haven't been here for a while but place is still hitting the spot. Ambiance: nearly almost similar to any Korean bbq place that you would go to. K-pop music placing , free ice cream. Food: everything does take simulator other than there bulgogi meat it's less flavorful here but otherwise good. Service: staff is very attentive when it comes to it busy.

    1. The options of the AYCE are good, and I really like the garlic pork belly! They also have complimentary ice cream! 2. The spot has fun casual vibes! The interior has high ceilings! 3. There are only indoor seatings! They have a good number of tables and booths available! 4. The staff was friendly and attentive! They do ask clean the grill often! 5. Parking is easy! Spots are single-lined and not compact! Note: 10% discount if you pay with cash Photo: AYCE Meat

Don't come here found a roach or some bug in my food specifically in the Korean noodle soup manager couldn't even show their face to apologize instead had a waitress tell us they won't charge us absolutely unacceptable. Do not let this review go unnoticed.

Not the same kbbq I remember. We ordered the beef belly plate and it arrived looking like mostly fat. After cooking that plate it turned out to be 100% fat and no meat - I gave the whole plate back to the server who agreed and took it back. Meat quality is not good. There are better options for affordable kbbq than Star BBQ.

Also, the seaweed salad was an interesting addition. We were not fans of this. 2/5 FRENCH FRIES ($8.40) - they have different seasonings and we chose the Cajun one. We liked that they were skinny fries and they were addicting. I especially liked the spicy aioli dipping sauce. 4.5/5 GARLIC NOODLES SHRIMP ($23.10) - we thought it could've been saltier and used more garlic. The shrimp add-on was $12.60 which was not really worth for 5 pieces of shrimp. They were big pieces of shrimp though although not the easiest to peel. 2.5/5 ANGUS BEEF RIBEYE ($50) - this was cooked well and had good flavor. It came with mushrooms, asparagus, and a dipping sauce that we didn't care for. We would've liked some flaky sea salt on top to add more savoriness. 4/5 For drinks, the aum fashioned ($16) was a standard old fashioned and the heart shaker ($13) was pretty good. They have happy hour 3-7pm Monday to Thursday but unfortunately not on Fridays or the weekend. It's a little alarming that my favorite dish was the fries. This looks like a fun place in the evening so I would come back for a night out.

We came when happy hour was going on (2-5 pm M-F), and it seemed they had a good selection for that alone. Otherwise, their regular menu was pretty extensive and they had so many unique options. We had dinner to go to so unfortunately we couldn't order too much. I would have loved to order more food! We ended up ordering the following: - Chili crunch burrata: This is chef's kiss. I love burrata in general and it was so unique to have chili crisp mixed with the burrata. The pickled shallot provided a nice balance. I loved the Chinese donut to eat with the burrata. It was hot and fresh, and contrasted very nicely with the burrata. I really wished they gave a bit more Chinese donut so that the ratio of cheese to dip was better. We really had to eat a LOT of cheese to go with the Chinese donut we had left. The hostess said this was also one of her favorite dishes. - Chicken cartilage with Mala BBQ spice: This was surprisingly meatier than I thought (thought there would be more cartilage). It was deep fried and the mala dip was spicy, as promised! - Stir fried ong choy with garlic (not part of happy hour): This was solid, and they gave a generous amount of ong choy. Service was very friendly at the front and when they served our food. The restaurant is beautiful, and feels upscale. It is nice enough for entertaining guests and for dates. I would totally come back to try their other dishes.

We…read morefirst returned in early June since they introduced some new cocktails and food to the menu. The other visits were just because this is by far our number one place. Recently added cocktails: Buzzin' Jungle Bird (Jamaican gold rum, coffee infused campari, dark rum, pineapple, lime, hemp orgeat, cane, Angostura bitters). This is a great spin on a jungle bird, with some complexity and coffee flavor. I'm usually not a big fan of coffee, but it is at a good level. Chi Chi (Whey vodka, pineapple, lime, date, honey, coconut, salt). This has a great creamy texture which I believe comes from the dairy component of the whey vodka. It is well balanced with some sweetness, and I could taste the coconut and date flavors. Lapu Lapu (Asian rum, Jamaican rum, dry curacao, lime, orgeat, demerara). It is juicy, well balanced, and served with a flaming sugar cube on top. This is the cocktail they chose to serve at their booth at Tiki Oasis recently which says a lot, try it! Thai Me Down (Barbados rum, coconut liqueur, papaya, lemon, demerara, Thai basil). It is served old-fashioned style, and was light and perfectly balanced. Those Thai inspired flavors were all noticeable. Demerara Dry Float. They added and took this one off the menu as of now. It was a balanced light citrusy drink which was served with a delicious sidecar of Hamilton 151 rum infused with banana chips. I sipped half of that and mixed the rest into the cocktail. It was served with a beautiful ice shell. I'm guessing it was too labor intensive, and took up a lot of space in their freezers. Recently added food: Ahi Poke Nachos (marinated ahi tuna, masago, avocado, cucumber, spicy mayo, furikake, green onion). This is such a tasty starter with so many textures and flavors. I love that the nachos are wontons too, and not just chips. Crab & Cream cheese wontons. Nice crisp wontons with a good amount of crab and cream cheese inside. The chili sauce and spicy mayo adds another layer of flavor, and there is a slice of jalapeno on top for a little heat. Pan-Seared Scallops. This was an excellent lighter entrée. The four scallops are cooked perfectly, and even have a little dollop of caviar on top. I liked the mix of veggies and really liked the bed of potato puree underneath. Steak & Eggs (8oz hanger steak, crying tiger glaze, Nam Jim Jaew sauce, sunny eggs, rice). I normally wouldn't try steak & eggs for dinner, but I can't resist a good hanger steak. It was cooked a perfect medium rare and I appreciate that it was pre-sliced. The crying tiger glaze and sauce were so flavorful. There's plenty of rice to soak up any left egg yolk or sauce. Recently added desserts: Dubai Chocolate Lava Cake. This was excellent, but it's definitely sweet and rich. Save some room if you plan on ordering this. Ube Flan Cake. I'm usually not a fan of flan, but I have to try anything with ube and this was good. The cake had nice ube flavor, and I liked that the flan was a little firm since the looser custardy/gelatinous texture is not for me. This is definitely a lighter dessert than the lava cake. It's not a new drink, but I also had the Naval Grog for the first time. (Lost Voyage rum, overproof white rum, allspice dram, lime, grapefruit, demerara, honey). It is boozy with nice spice notes. Other repeat cocktails enjoyed were Tales from the Black Lagoon (my favorite), Missionary's Downfall, Agave Parrot, Singapore Sling, and Serpents Grasp all of which are excellent. Their cocktails, food, ambiance, and service are always top notch. Thank you Ying, Erica, Greg, Jordan, Joey, Iris, Karen, Kyle, Joy, and John for your wonderful hospitality during our visits.
