Revenge from last week of power outage. The server was great!! Next to our table, the buss person left some dirty napkins on the bench. And new Customer who sat there through the napkins to my daughter. My daughter was very patient and use her clean napkins to pick them up and ask nicely to the server if she could trash them. We passed by this place a few times while going around Ala Moana and decided it would be a great dinner option! The lines here are crazy so just a heads up when planning your meal. We were able to add our names to their waitlist however it was still about a 30-45 minute wait when we got to the restaurant. I would say, it is probably worth the wait especially for AYCE Shabu. We were seated and informed on the broth bases and how the ordering worked. They have plenty of meat options, veggies, noodles, and side dish selections to choose from. I got the sukiyaki broth for my individual pot. It is fun that this place does individual broth pots. The meat here is also cut pretty thin so you can definitely enjoy multiple rounds of shabu. Was afraid it was going to be a long wait, but to our surprise, we got called much earlier than expected. We had a group of 6, so we got on the waitlist about 45 min before our planned time to be there. To our surprise, we got call about 10 min earlier than expected! Food was good, meat was almost too thin where it almost tore apart when trying to take it from the tray to the broth. The dishwashers and bussers were also very attentive with clearing our used dishes out of the way. The meat quality is good and I like that the slices are on the more thin side as it cooks quicker in the broth. Asked for a table for 5 adult 1 toddler with high chair, and the server gave us a standard 4 people dining table that has 5 pot heaters on it. I kindly explain it's very tight for the 6 of us to fit in this small area and it's not safe for the toddler to be squeezed into the corner. They have an empty bigger table nearby but insist we need to pay for 6 adults prices to sit there. I understand it's a business, but never had I encountered a restaurant treating me like that especially with a little one by my side. Got here an hour after they opened on a Saturday. They were already full but our wait was only 5 minutes. Even though when asked the hostess said it'd be more of a 20 minute wait. I think she said that to try and get us to sit at the bar area stools. The service was really good and very fast. We got our meat and appetizer orders in, then went to get the other foods and the sauce bar and by the time we got back all of our order was at the table. The vegetable and food selection was not as much as I thought it would be from looking at other reviews. There was no seafood besides imitation crab. I'm going to guess that's because it was lunch time? No idea. They didn't have any fish cakes either so I got the small looking shrimp balls. There were only three types of sauce as well, and they were ok. Plenty of noodle types though and I probably ate more noodles because of the lack of other food. I will say the sukiyaki broth is delicious and I definitely recommend that one. The meat was good and even though they're thin slices I still got very full. I would go again if there was no wait but I definitely would not wait longer than 30 minutes to eat here. Too many good food places around to spend it waiting for Shabu Shabu. This was our second time here, I forgot to review the first time. We had two birthdays going on and the 10 year old had some pretty strong opinions about our other choices so we all agreed on Shabuya. The price SEEMS prohibitive but let me break it down for you. $30.99 for adults and it includes an hour and a half of all you can eat hotpot with whatever meat, broth and veggies you want, all you can eat appetizers (they bring em fresh) and all you can drink fountain drinks and tea. We had 9 people, only one of whom qualified for the child's rate of $10.99. Normally, at a regular full service place, each persons entree and drinks would run us around $35. Add on 4 appetizers at $15 and a 20% tip and I'm over $400. Our bill was $287 and that included a %15 tip for the large party. We added an extra 5%. So this actually SAVED me over a hundred bucks. Our servers name was Pineapple (that's what the name tag said) and she was ON POINT. Water stayed full, broth stayed topped off (she even replaced my son's entire pot when he tried to get too creative and ruined his.) Appetizer's were on the table within 5 minutes of ordering and they were burn your mouth hot and crispy and they kept coming. Need more meat? BAM! Chicken Karage? BAM! Did I hear an empty drink slurp? BAM. Nobody at the table is moving or talking anymore? Here's your bill, tips included, have a great night. This place runs like a well oiled machine. The staff is weaving between tables at high speed carrying hot broth so watch wear you push your chair when getting up. They keep the buffet pans full and chilled so you don't have to hoard. They don't take reservations. You can put yourself on the waitlist via YELP but you won't get confirmed or seated until the entire party is there. Fridays before 6pm is a great time to go.
