Shady Oak originally had a location in Plano around eight years ago, and they were hands down my favorite spot. I was thrilled to come across this place, even though I only had about an hour before they closed. The staff was incredibly welcoming and really elevated the experience. I went with my usual order--St. Louis ribs with okra and apples on the side--and it was every bit as good as I remembered. Having grown up in Kansas City, I have pretty high standards when it comes to BBQ, and Shady Oak is the closest thing I've found to authentic KC-style barbecue. My only wish is that they'd open more locations closer to me in Dallas. read more

The service and staff were amazing they were very friendly and helpful with me and my kiddos. The ambiance was very family oriented and friendly I loved it! It had Texas hospitality all around! I've been here before and thought it was pretty good so i thought I would try it again.I sat down looked at the menu and decided with the sliced beef sandwich which came with fries and one side.As far as the sandwich goes it was pretty solid.The brisket was nice and tender.And the bun was toasted.The only thing it lacked was flavor.Just didn't taste any kind of seasoning on it.And i wasn't a big fan of their BBQ sauce.They keep it warm in a little bottle and it just was kind of bland.So next was the spicy beans as I got for my one side.I thought they were pretty tasty.They had a little spice to them but not too much.Now the fries were also good but I didn't eat that many of them because I was full.I forgot to tell you they give you a small loaf of bread before you get your meal.Which was delightful.Overall the experience was good and I would hit this place up again.Its definitely not at the top of my list of BBQ joints but it's not bad.Give it a shot and see what you think? read more

Decided to try this spot as it was walking distance from our hotel. When we were walking in, I was wowed by how beautiful the patio area was. There was even a live singer performing! They start you off with a loaf of bread, which was piping hot and very fresh! We both got the three meat combos. I went with the brisket, ribs, and turkey with cinnamon apples and mashed potatoes. My boyfriend went with the sausage, ham, and brisket with fries and mac and cheese. The turkey was amazing!!! It was so flavorful and juicy! I also really liked the ribs as these were slathered in a sweet and smokey sauce, different from a lot of other bbq spots that do dry rubs. I got the leaner brisket while bf got the moist one, but I feel like I couldn't taste a huge difference between the two? (still decent tho). All the meats were solid, but I'd definitely try the turkey. All of the sides were really good portions! The mashed potatoes and mac and cheese were both very creamy and well-seasoned! My wife and I used to work in the area and dined at Shady Oaks quite a few times for lunch. We no longer work close by but were in the area around lunchtime on a Saturday. We both decided we wanted "que" so we headed over to Shady Oaks for a late lunch, early dinner. Since it was the middle of the afternoon, they restaurant wasn't busy at all, we were seated immediately. It didn't take much time to decide on what we wanted to eat. My wife ordered the sliced beef sandwich with a side of French fries and apples. I ordered the 3-meat combo, marbled brisket, pepper sausage, and St. Louis style ribs, accompanied with potato salad, Cole slaw and a corn cobette, which automatically comes on the platter. In the meantime, Logan brought out Shady Oak's famous piping hot bread. It is SO good and fresh out of the oven. You've got to be careful you don't stuff your face with bread. Once you tear off a hunk from the loaf, it's hard not to tear off another and a another and so on. Thankfully, I stopped at two hunks. After a short wait, our entrees were delivered to our table by Logan. Logan had been very attentive ensuring our tea glasses kept topped off. The "que" was so good along with the sides. On Sunday at 6:30pm, about 8 of us met up at Shady Oak. Let me tell you that the Atmosphere was quiet and clean. The hostess was very nice and set up our table quickly. The waitress Jenni and the Manager Mr.Money were Amazing! We had a great conversation with them both and we laughed so much. The service was definitely an endless and bottomless sweet Tea and my husband was quite the tipper due to this reason. He was very happy with the delicious food and the fantastic service, but even more the opportunity to joke around with an employee and their manager! I loved the food I selected the three meat combo and had marbled brisket, sausage and Ribs. The ribs and brisket were perfectly cooked and so tender. The service was okay, we had a bigger party so I'll give her that but she didn't really check for refills or anything really throughout the meal. I had to ask a food runner if he could ask her to bring us a refill because we simply had not seen her in 10 mins or so. Best local barbecue restaurant in my opinion. Very friendly service, delicious food and fabulous menu. They even went out of their way to modify an item, because I wanted smoked chicken in my quesadilla. In my experience, it is more upscale than a lot of other BBQ places. They actually serve their food on real plates! (not metal trays). Food and drinks were all amazingly delicious. I like the atmosphere too. My husband and I recently went here for the first time. We were disappointed with the flavor of the food,, but the quantity of food was plentiful and we would give that a five 5. I ordered the turkey, which was nice and moist, and I would give that a 3 1/2 or four 4, but my other sides weren't as desirable. I actually ordered two coleslaws as I was told they served a sweet coleslaw, but they tasted like globs of mayonnaise to me when I tried to eat it. I actually sent one of them back and asked for something else. I did get the corn on the cob and it was OK, it was very average. It was definitely edible. They brought me the mashed potatoes which I didn't want, but they had a decent flavor. There was a large portion of it and that side was good sized too. We ordered onion rings as an appetizer and with ketchup, we really liked those the best. We would give those a four 4. We were not too keen on the because it had a garlic seasoning on it (or tasted like it) and we just weren't expecting that with BBQ. But had it been a regular warm bread, it would have been wonderful. My husband had ribs, pulled pork, and smoked sausage and he would give it a two 2. He said it seemed to be overcooked and somewhat mushy with a bit of an odd flavor. His macaroni and cheese was his favorite side and he enjoyed it. Our waitress was nice and accommodating. Please excuse my lengthy review. I don't normally leave reviews but I had to come on here and say this. I want to start off by thanking Jenny. She was not only the most hospitable but warm and inviting server I have ever had. She treated me as a mother would treat one of their own. Now let me get into the food, for starters the bread was warm and fresh. Super soft on the inside with a nice crisp bite on the outside. Pairs well with they're in house bbq sauce. Then the sweet tea. As a true southerner at heart that was some of the best sweet tea I've had from a restaurant. Then we had the honor of getting to try every side they have to offer. The top 3 in my opinion hands down are the beans,okra,and and potato salad. Must try. We got the 2 meat option I got the sliced brisket and turkey and my girlfriend got the chopped brisket and peppered sausage and I will say this is the best barbecue I've had in my entire life. The turkey was juicy and had amazing flavor. The brisket was super tender with a good crust and the sausage melts in your mouth. And to finish off the meal we got their banana pudding and that was not only the perfect way to end the meal but it reminded me of memaws puddin. 10/10 would recommend this place to anyone. Bexar the manager on duty came up to our table half way through the meal and checked on us. He was extremely friendly and very polite and professional. At the end of the meal they gave us bread to take home so they didn't have to throw it out. Once again this place is the best restaurant I've ever been to. It's a sin to live in TX and not love BBQ) - I don't hate it, it's because my husband makes a lot of it at home and it's hard to find good places once you start making it yourself. Visiting from Nevada. Arrived at 8pm on a Friday night. The place wasn't busy, so there was no wait. The host was super nice and greeted us with a smile. The restaurant is inside of a barn. Decore: fireplace, deer mounts, boots, and bears. Plenty of seating: tables and booths. We ordered the Trash can to share, along with jalapeño poppers, burnt ends, and a baked potato. We spent a little over $155 plus tip. The trash can gives you an options of several different meats and sides. The food was decent. The fries were a little cold. The brisket lacked flavor and chicken was dry. From eating at different barbecue restaurants this week we came to the conclusion that, this place isn't the best place to get barbecue, but it is open until 10pm. read more

Had great service tonight from John. As usual the food comes out at perfect temperature and full of flavor and very good sized portions. I always get the 3 meat plate with a salad for the side so I can eat the salad there as well as a little bit of the meat, but most of the meat goes home with me and will be leftovers for 1-2 meals. The Spring Creek BBQ on Sandshell in Ft Worth is now Shady Oak BBQ. the website prices are nearly half as much as they actually charge (so SHADY Oaks is appropriate) and I didn't get what I ordered, the food was cold, and quality was below expectation. The "To Go" young lady was slow in more ways than one... not good service. Website prices (screen shots from website menu on the same day as receipt. On June 7,2025 I was looking for a restaurant with live music and this restaurant did;however the food was not good. I order smoked sausage with coleslaw. The sausage was cold with some warm bar-b-que sauce spread on it; the coleslaw had no flavor. My friend had the chopped bar-b-que sandwich which was also cold and his mac and cheese looked like it was made with old cheese and inedible. Once our order was delivered we never saw the server again until we asked for the check. We stumbled upon this beautiful gem and could not have left happier. Every bite we took was deliciously flavored. The meats were juicy and tender, the spicy beans were just perfect, and the coleslaw was just simply done right!! We also enjoyed the catfish basket and the burnt bacon ends (not pictured) because we inhaled them so fast. Oh, and the mall started with the most delicious warm bread. We love the atmosphere at this place. It is fun and welcoming. We had three people for an early dinner tonight. We got drinks and bread very quickly. Then crickets. We finally placed our orders. Sandwiches and baked potatoes. We waited a long time to get our food. When it arrived, the food was not warm. We ordered baked potatoes as part of our meals. They were huge, but cold, and frankly tasted old because they were cold. We sent one meal and two potatoes back. When the replacements arrived, they were still cold. Disappointing. The manager said he would take at least one of the meals off, which was fine, we weren't looking to be comped, we wanted good food. When the bill came, we were billed for all of it. Even though the manager was told that the second set of plates was also cold. They eventually took one meal off, considering we could eat the potatoes. It was maybe extra disappointing because we had skipped lunch to save on the calories and really be able to enjoy our dinner splurge. The service was pleasant, but probably a bit overwhelmed. 12-14-23 Just landed at DFW for our next round of our "East and West Seeks Texas' Best" barbecue tour. My wife and I tried this place for dinner after checking into an our hotel. Our daughter Alisa and her family, the "East"part of our touring group will arrive in the morning from Florida to meet up with us "West", Californians. Then it's off to Goldee's, the current number one on the Texas Monthly's top 50 barbecue joints list. But for this evening's repast, Shady Oaks was the closest place to our hotel, so..,, The food: I had the three meat plate and chose St. Louis ribs (they also had back ribs available) sausage, and brisket, half and half fatty and lean (point and flat). I also chose for sides Mac and cheese, Texas Spicy Beans, and Cole slaw. My wife chose barbecued turkey breast sandwich with mixed streamed vegetables and potato salad. All items of food sampled were good. Good is what I call average. Prices were fair and the meal was served with fresh hot bread. Yummy! Their barbecue sauce was excellent. A unique style. A Texas "Dip" type sauce lightly spiced and very tasty. I passed on their sweeter sauce, but is there for anyone who desires more of a KC style sauce. The service was friendly, timely and excellent. The ambiance was very good. A very homey atmosphere created in the old road house style of eateries which I was told had been remodeled from a barn Nice. My rating is 3.0 for the food, modified to 3.5 due to the sauce and fresh bread. 4.5 for service and ambiance gives a 4 star average total. Next stop Goldee's! read more

Stopped in to get 6 orders of their bacon burnt end and 6 sides of their spicy beans. The burnt ends were to include 6 pieces each order. The spicy beans came in your average small takeout condiment container. When we drove the 20 minutes back to our house and opened our meal we had a total of 22 pieces of the burnt ends rather than the 36 that should have been included in the order we paid for. Each spicy bean container wasn't even 3/4 full. It amounted to 3 small spoonfuls each container. Doing the right thing we emailed them and 10 days later we still haven't received a response. We are very disappointed in the customer service and their lack of response to our request for a partial refund if the $90 we spent on our meal. read more

Had lunch at Shady Oak BBQ and Grill today with my friends. This place is incredible and what a history and the interior has some beautiful carving...especially John Wayne!!! The food here is great and our server Halley was just awesome. I went with the two meat BBQ plate selecting moist brisket, sausage, potato salad, and Mac & Cheese. They also bring out this huge loaf of warm bread for you to snack on while waiting for your meal.
