Holy moly! This food is delicious. Tried the chicken katsu and the kalbi ribs. The katsu was perfectly seasoned, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside! After seeing multiple people talk about Shaka on a Facebook group (shoutout to Asian Grub in DFDUB) it became a mission of mine to get myself to Shaka for dinner. While the boyfriend was a bit iffy, I couldn't wait. I scoured the website, looked over pictures here on Yelp, and made an executive decision that we would try different dishes in order to get the most of our experience. He had the Kalua Plte with Teriyaki Chicken and I got the Hawaiian BBQ Combo. HOLY HECK IT WAS MOUTHWATERING DELICIOUS! The chicken was perfectly cooked to be tender and juicy with so much flavor from the marinade. The beef was perfectly cooked to give sweetness but savory notes. And the macaroni salad was hands down great with every bite. They provided us with some sauces (not sure what the darker one was but I need a bottle of it bc that stuff is addictive) so be sure to ask for extra with your meal! This spot has good food but when I went they were going to charge me $4.00 on each piece of Kalbi for substituting what the combo originally had. They wouldn't even let me substitute Kahlua pork for my order. The cashier was not changing it at all and kept bringing up that labor is extra so you have to pay extra. I thought, as someone that works in customer service, and for someone hungry, I was not happy with there flexibility on the menu. Went here on a Friday night for dinner and it was fabulous!!!! We had 4 adults and 2 kids and ordered a family meal, which was more than enough for all of us. We got the fire chicken, fried fish, upgraded to ribs, macaroni and white rice. Fire chicken wasn't spicy- it had real good flavor. Fried fish was delicious. I usually don't like fried fish but I really enjoyed This one. It was super crunchy! No complaints here. Everything was just good. We discovered this place by word-of-mouth from Nextdoor, which is fortunate because this hidden jewel is tucked away and hard to find unless you're looking for it. It's so worth it! The food is absolutely mouthwatering. The BBQ Beef (bulgogi) and BBQ Chicken are great. The Chicken Katsu, esp with the curry sauce, is one of our top choices. I also love the Fire Chicken, which is sweet and spicy with lots of onions. I never leave without an order of their spam musubi. Most meals that we've tried come with a scoop of rice and macaroni salad, as well as a bed of cabbage. Their macaroni salad is a standout -- one of the best we've had anywhere. We now ask for less rice, more mac. Shaka is fast casual. You order at the counter, and they bring your food to you. You fill your own drinks and choose your own sauces. There is a tip jar if you want to tip, but there's no guilt (and no awkward tip line) if you pay by credit card. We love this place and hope it succeeds and never changes!
