I had the Shack burger and a fifty-fifty to drink. I just wanted to see what the hype was about. Hype is exactly what my experience was. The burger is tiny, about the size of McDonalds cheeseburger, and not worth the $6. As far as the taste, the burger did have fresh toppings that overwhelmed the taste of the meat. The bun seemed doughy and gooey, similar to a White Castle slider that was in the box too long. The drink was the only thing that seemed worth while; it wasn't overpriced compared to other places. I ate here with my family and was not impressed. I waited in line for about 15 minutes, ordered and then had to grab a buzzer and wait for the food to be ready. I was not impressed with this place. The burgers were small and salty. The fries were crispy and that was the best part. The apple juice for the kids was sweetened only with fruit juice and the kids hated it. So, even though this place is still brand new-it has a few kinks to work out. The burgers are definitely worth it and I would recommend them to anyone looking to try very decent fast-casual burgers. This place being at the Mall of America means there will pretty much always be some kind of line-which they do walk through and hand out menus, which is great if you've never been there and need an extra minute or two to mull things over. As far as the setup and organization of picking up your food, it leaves somewhat to be desired. They hand out the buzzer things that light up when they call your number-but people hang out at the counter from the second they order. It makes for a cluttered and claustrophobic area-PLUS people are ordering their burgers right there. I think once this has been open a while, and they get down the process and timing for busy times then it will be all the more worth the trip. I DO recommend the burgers though! After visiting the Mall of America Shake Shack on Tuesday, May 15 I experienced the most intense food poisoning of my life. I ate a double shack burger and fries. Immediately after, I felt incredibly ill. I was able to finish my shopping and get home, however, when I returned home I experienced the worst abdominal cramping I have ever felt. I laid in bed and I assume I passed out from the pain, as a few hours later I awoke to violent vomiting. I vomited for over 12 hours, and was unable to even keep sips of water in. Once the vomiting stopped, I was struck with violent diahreah that kept me no more than 10 feet away from a toilet for over 48 hours. Luckily I visited an urgent care center where I received a fluid IV solution and a prescription for Zofran, an antinausea medicine. If I had not spent the time and money to go to the urgent care center, I am sure my recovery time would have been exponentially longer, and I am also lucky to have not experienced more advanced dehydration and organ, namely kidney damage due to the illness caused by your food. Now, I sit here; with my entire abdomen inflamed from the traumatic food poisoning caused by dining at your establishment and my arms and legs covered in a rash; I write this message after missing 3 days of work to notify you that something is severely wrong with your process of food preparation, workplace and employee sanitation processes and dining experience as a whole as I have never been so ill in my entire life as I have been after dining at Shake Shack. I WILL NEVER EAT HERE AGAIN. read more

Not Impressed. I've been wanting to try Shake Shack for a while now, but we just never got to it. Today was finally the day and what a dissapointment. Our soda was completely flat, my wife's shake was so poorly mixed she was getting huge globs of chocolate powder, the bacon cheese fries are made with completely flavorless processed cheese sauce, and one of our burgers wasn't even done. For $30 I got 2 tiny hamburgers, some fries that didn't even taste as good as Ore Ida crinkle cut that I baked in my oven a couple nights ago, one beer and a very delicious chocolate shake . I got a single shack burger. My daughter got a plain cheeseburger with a piece of bacon and it was a little under $9. It was tiny. She even said "that's a small hamburger!" She's 9. A Culvers single is twice as big and I'm sorry to say, twice as good and half the price. On my shack burger, the tomato's were a tiny soggy mess, think two small slices of Roma with wilted lettuce. What sauce are they talking about? I couldn't even taste it. In and Out sauce is much better. (Yes I know it's basically 1000 Island) . I don't get the hype, the burgers were small, over cooked and under seasoned. They were bland. I wouldn't have cared about the portion if it had been good but it wasn't. I was really looking forward to trying it and I was very disappointed. The shake is why I would give it one star, it was very good! I'd never go again for food but maybe a shake. I've heard of ShakeShack before but this was my first visit and I was really excited. I didn't really know what I was ordering when I asked for the burger with a mushroom on it. I thought it would be a double patty with mushrooms, not a single with a mushroom the size of a patty!! Either way, it was pretty tasty but now I know next time to order a double because I need some meat! The burger was hard to eat and I should have read more reviews because I didn't realize the cheese would be oozing out after my first bite until I noticed it all over the place. Lucky most of it went on the fries, which helped add a little flavor...note to self, don't get the fries plain, pretty boring. My favorite part of the meal was probably the peanut butter and chocolate milk shake we ordered, damn that thing was good! Going into my Shake Shack experience, I wanted to 1) love it and 2) try not to compare it to In and Out but I unfortunately couldn't manage either. My husband and I stopped by during a Saturday afternoon. There was a bit of a line but the service moved quickly. I ordered a Smoke Shack Cheeseburger which comes with bacon and cherry peppers. The peppers added a bit to the burger but overall, I felt meh. The burger itself could have been seasoned more and the size was small for the price. We did enjoy the fries and they givee you plenty. Considering how seldom I am at the MOA - I can't see myself coming back. Its' also a small pet peeve of mine but I don't love when restaurants use the buzzers to notify you when your order is ready. Burgers are weird. They can be unrefined, ala fast food. They can be classed up, as a simpler entree at a higher end restaurant. But, for the most part, you know what you're getting yourself into. Shake shack tries to hit multiple targets - a fast casual burger like at Five Guys, and a quality burger, like at a modern burger place. I have to say, it doesnt hit any of the targets. The vibe this place, and other shake shack places, gives of is modern fast casual, with a little hipster snootiness thrown in. This location in particular is undercut by the fact that it is essentially a food court joint as opposed to a standalone establishment. The menu consists of burgers, krinkle fries, hot dogs, milk shakes, and concrete mixers. This menu selection is practically lifted from Culvers, a midwest fast food joint. The burgers taste good, as do the shakes and concrete mixers. But, they aren't drastically better compared to your fast food joints, like Five Guys, In and Out, or Culvers. And the portions are quite small, yet prices are 25-50% more expensive. Compared to more higher end burger joints, with equivalent or slightly higher prices, the food is equivalent or slightly worse tasting. And in this case, the ambiance doesn't cut it. All in all, Shake Shack has an identity crisis, wherein it lives in a purgatory between fast food and restaurant quality burgers, and yet manages to not be better than either. If there's a line, dedinitely not worth waiting for. If there's no line, and you've been dying to try this place because of all the hype, then by all means give it a shot and form your own opinion. read more

My girlfriend and I ordered two ice cream floats. After 20 minutes of not getting called, we asked where our floats were. The guy grabs them off a shelf where they have definitely been sitting for a while because the ice cream has almost completely melted. When we asked if they could remake them they said no and tried giving them to us. Finally they gave us a refund. How hard is it to make two ice cream floats and get them out quickly?! If you eat at shake shack a few times, you will not be able to eat other burgers without cursing. Shake Shack uses the finest beef fit for a steak house. People complain about high prices, but let's face it. Other burger place use scrap meat that's one grade up from hotdog meat. If you don't care about quality, you can always go to McDonald's and save 3 bucks. As for me, sticking with Shake Shack is the only way to go. read more

I love Shake Shack. Every time me and my significant other go on vacation we always find one to eat at. Obviously thrilled when they opened one up at MOA. However, it was subpar compared to Chicago and Las Vegas locations. They were out of mayo packets which is a let down to begin with and I had to request to have the ketchup dispensers refilled. The food came out somewhat quick and was average tasting, but fine. The kicker was you pay extra for cheese fries and the amount of cheese given was basically nonexistent. Slightly disappointed in this location as the others were impressive. Likely won't go out of my way to hit up the MOA location, but will continue to try it elsewhere. read more

I went to Shack Shack twice in a span of 3 days and they got my order wrong both times. The First time was in JFK airport, I asked what Purple cow and Creamsicle are and I then ordered a root beer float instead but they put Creamsicle in my order in addition to the root beer float. The 2nd time was at Mall of America I ordered cheeseburger and got just that eventhough it says it comes with Lettuce Tomato and Shack sauce. There is no selection for cheeseburger alone in the menu but there is one for Hamburger. The problem is, They do not ask what you want on your burger but charge you the same price for a Shackburger. I do commend the gentleman that listened to my complaint and got me a free "Shackburger" without my request. Overall taste is ok, nothing to rave about. I still prefer Five Guys. read more

Went to the Mall of America - we are from Chicago- noticed that the lines were the longest at Shake Shack - so we had to check it out- we waited 25 minutes in line- 25 minutes to get the food- like I said we are from Chicago so we know what a good burger is supposed to taste like - even with the amount of time we waited - the Shack Burger was well worth the wait - it was so delicious, juicy great bun the perfect amount of condiments- we also had the cheese fries - they were great - my fiancé had a strawberry shake - it had great flavor but the consistency was too thin.
