Honestly, I was really impressed with this place. This was the first restaurant I ate at after moving to LA a few weeks ago, and it was after a long day of unpacking a moving truck. My housemates and I, who are also from Northern California, had never eaten at Shake Shack before, but it was the first name we recognized and we were extremely hungry so we headed in. One of my housemates remarked that it might not be the best for me since I'm a vegetarian and it's a "burger place," but I assured them it wouldn't be a problem since I could just get fries or something--it actually ended up being a great vegetarian experience. I got the veggie burger, and their vegetarian patty is one of the best I've ever had. It was made of identifiable ingredients such as beans and beets, which I prefer to the sort of patty made of uniform mush (I'm soy intolerant as well, which made it especially good for me). It was totally rich with flavor, and I would go back for that alone. I got fries as well since getting a burger without them feels wrong, and they were less than ideal for me. They're a bigger, crinkle cut style of fry, which I don't really prefer to begin with, and on top of that they weren't super crispy, lacked flavor, and didn't taste very fresh. It was like a light layer of crisp over soft potato. Maybe for some that is the preference, but I wasn't a fan. The thing where you order at a kiosk was jarring since they don't really have that where I'm from, but it took no time to figure out and worked great. On our way out my housemate and I got a shake to share, and it was absolutely delicious. Just ate here for the first time today. Love the ordering system. Easy to use, pay right there, and don't forget to enter your phone number. Find a table and they text you to pick up at the counter. You can order takeout too and pay with cash at the pickup counter if you'd rather. Indifferent service and cold, sad fries. I ordered a burger with added onions and the crinkle cut fries. There was nothing wrong with the milkshake except of course for the fact that it was a pretty small example of a milkshake. The problem lay in the food and method of telling you when it's ready to pick up. They said they would send a text to me but the text arrived while I was in the middle of eating. The only reason I got my food was because I walked up and asked what was going on and they said oh this is yours here we've been calling your name. Couldn't have been much more than a whisper. So once I got it to the table and tried one or two of the french fries I realized they were cold. Cold french fries is almost a death sentence in the restaurant business. Cold and different french fries just say "we don't care about you that much we just want your money." And they say that in any language on Earth. And then there was the hamburger with the extra onions which are served in a sauce that enveloped the entire Burger. Just looking at it I knew there was no way I could eat it without ending up wearing half of it. So I tried to cover the front of my shirt with the incredibly thin napkins they provide. They were so thin that I knew a liquid would go through them instantly and I ended up having to use four of them just to cover my chest. I think you know what happened after that. My shirt is now in my laundry hamper with strange red colored stains that almost looked like blood. This is just not the way to run a chain of a restaurant. I love hamburgers and I look forward to having them but I won't be having him on again at Shake Shack. When you charge somebody $20 for a hamburger fries and a milkshake, at least have the decency to deserve something memorable. If not just edible. read more

I like Shake Shack in general, but all the locations were too out of my way to visit regularly. So when I saw that they recently opened in Downtown Burbank, I knew I had to drop by and check it out. The food was delicious (their cheese sauce is the best), and the service was great. There's a lot of seating, but since there are so many people, finding a seat may take a few minutes. I've left a review on Yelp about this already in the past but every single time I come to this location which is often because it is the closest the fries are ALWAYS cold and stale as if they were microwaved. I never saw this issue at any of the other locations. I wish they would just do something about this issue because it would be inconvenient to have to travel to a farther location from home just to get quality food. I've been to the Glendale location once before, and I've been dreaming about the Shack Stack for a bit ever since. Today it wasn't too crowded which was perfect. We had the Stack, a spicy chicken sandwich, the peppermint milkshake, and a large drink for a grand total of $31. Pretty expensive for a fast food joint, but overall we both enjoyed the food. Had to make a trip to try the brand new Shake Shack in Burbank. You can tell they have overstaffed the place during the opening as there were no less than three employees waiting and walking through the fairly small seating area helping clear plates/trays/trash. I'm not a huge fan of the kiosk ordering process -- it's a fine concept but if you just want a burger, fries, and drink you have to go to multiple tabs and views to add it all to your cart. Make it easier people!! When it comes to the food, I wish the portions were just a tad bigger. The fries always feel like 90% full ... you want just a little more. While I love the food, I was a bit disappointed in the size of the chicken breast. I ordered a Hot Chick'n and I must say the breast size was maybe 60% of what they show you in the photos. You are used to this treatment at MCD, but not at a place like the Shack. Don't skimp on the meat folks!! I also got a peppermint milkshake which was just a 3 out of 5. read more
