In reality, I'm rating this as a 3.5. However, 3.5 rounded is a 4. The food here is a bit pricey, but it is good. I got the hot chicken sandwich, fries, and a raspberry cheesecake shake. The hot chicken sandwich was seasoned perfectly with ample amount of spice, a cooling coleslaw, and some pickles to counteract that richness of the chicken. The chicken was a bit dry though. I also got orders of cheese fries and it reminded me of Kraft's macaroni and cheese in the best way possible, but it its price point was not really worth it. The shake in my opinion is fantastic. There was a great richness that came along with the cheesecake, cut with the flavor of raspberry to not make it unbearable. All in all, the food was fantastic. I came in recently for a Children's Hospital Los Angeles fundraiser. 25% of each person's purchases would go towards CHLA's fundraising efforts. This was my very first time stepping foot into ANY Shake Shack location. I didn't really know what to expect. I'd heard different things but I wasn't sure that all the rumors could be true. I knew to expect a rather hefty price tag for the small size of the burger. My hubby and I both ordered the single shake shack burger, the original one. There weren't any fancy extras on our burgers. They were OK. The patty was tasty, definitely a beefy flavor. The lettuce wasn't real plentiful and everything was more or less average. I can't say that I'd return here in a heart beat, on my own, but I also wouldn't turn down a return invitation from a friend. The menu isn't fancy at all. The prices just seem to go up with every tiny little thing, whether it is a lil bit of onion or what have you. You can ask for their signature sauce on the side so that you'll have extra but what happened, in our experience, you'll get your order without any at all and what you get on the side is still not enough. I wasn't impressed at all about their service. When I ordered a drink, I asked if I could pick it up before I got the rest of my order. I explained to the server that I preferred to pick it up before the rest of the food because with my having a lil one, it was easier for me to deal with carrying the drink to our table without all the other food. What the server gave me was a soda cup that had already been sitting there for some time. It was diluted, the cup felt like it was on the verge of falling apart in my hands. On top of that, the soda was foul tasting and wasn't like any other cola that I've ever had. I just wasn't impressed. My burger was OK in taste but I can't say that it was better than In N Out. The service definitely wasn't good. The cola was terrible. The burger was small. The price I paid was a lot more than I would have liked had it not been for a good cause. I had to try this spot to finally figure out who wins in this west coast/east coast rivalry. But after finishing my food, I found that I couldn't really compare Shake Shack to In-N-Out. I mean, first of all you can't beat In-N-Out's beautifully simple and classic burgers. But that's not what Shake Shack is going for. Their burgers are still good but they offer quality and natural, non-hormone ingredients (and their potato bun is pretty darn good). Personally I could see myself going for either one of these burger joints. All of their burgers sounded pretty good but I tried the Roadside Double- a Swiss cheeseburger with Dijon and onions simmered in bacon and beer. Matt B. and I went to Glendale for some Halloween shopping back in October, and while we were there, we decided to get lunch at Shake Shack. We often go to Glendale for various boring errands, so it's nice to have a good quick place to eat. This location hadn't been open that long, and what with the Americana weekend madness, we accounted for a nasty line at 12:30 on a Saturday. Matt dropped me off to wait while he went to find parking, and I joined the crowd at the door. Turned out to be entirely unnecessary--the line moved smoothly, so smoothly that I got out of it to wait for Matt after letting multiple people pass in front of me. That line was like a straight, clear river--no need for socially awkward rocks diverting the flow. Service was efficient and friendly, and the food came out fast, too. Finding a table seemed like another possible challenge, but this was relatively easy as well. We had to keep our eyes peeled, as the space was full, but a table for two opened up before our food was ready. I liked the dining area--it was cheerful and busy, lots of families. Shake Shack's a fast food chain, and the atmosphere was in line with that, but felt a bit more sit-down than most--though maybe that just came with spending $40 on our meal. I'd been to Shake Shack a couple times in New York, so I knew what I'd be getting--a perfectly tasty burger that I'd never love like In-N-Out's. I got the SmokeShack this time, a cheeseburger with smoked Niman Ranch bacon, chopped cherry pepper, and ShackSauce. It was solid, and I appreciated the pepper. This time, we ordered the Chick'n Shack and a double hamburger, along with a side of crinkle-cut french fries. GOODS: -The chicken sandwhich was actually really good, and I would highly recommend getting it here. I like it a lot more than their beef patties. The chicken was really crispy on the outside, and tender and juicy on the inside. It was well seasoned and the condiments it came with (lettuce, tomato, pickles, and some white sauce--possibly mayo) accompanied it very well; I also added "Roadside Onions", which is basically caramelized onions. The price is also very reasonable for this sandwich, compared to other specialty chicken sandwich places. I had a shack stack, fries and "purple cow" float. The shack stack was a fried mushroom with hamburger, lettuce and tomato. The crunchy fried mushroom had a nice contrast with the beef. I like that they use dark leafy lettuce and a brioche bun for their burgers. The brioche bun, however, hardly help up against the moisture from the burger and veggies. The whole thing crumbled in a soggy mess after the first bite. The fries looked and tasted like the crinkle cut fries sold in most supermarket frozen aisles. Spuddy and tasteless. The purple cow is grape-flavored soda with s scoop of vanilla ice cream. This whole meal cost me $20. I feel cheated. This supposed New York institution shows up in California to do business amidst a throng of other superior burger joints. I've been a fan of shake shack ever since I got to try their food in their Vegas location. I can't knock the food. I think it's great. The service is also good. It's the prices of the menu items that hurts me :( What drew me to this location is that it's closest to me and their announcement of spinning their own take on a chicken sandwich. I am loyal to Chik Fil A but yeah this new chicken sandwich SS has come up with is pretty darn tasty. It's worth a try at least. The whole meal was great it's just too heavy and greasy for me personally, and is a place I'd probably go to every now and then. And so the great debate between Shake Shack versus In-n-Out continues. While not many burger joints can stack up to In-n-Out, you best believe that Shake Shack is one mighty contender. Newly opened down the street from the Americana, you can expect big crowds, long lines, and pretty damn good burgers. We came on a Saturday night right before peak dinner time hit. The line wasn't too bad but after we received our food, it had doubled in length. Despite the size of the restaurant, there aren't enough seats to go around most of the time so you may have to park yourself at a table in hopes that they finish up quickly. I always get the single Shack Burger which is your basic cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato and special sauce. Now I know what I'm about to say may sound like pure blasphemy but...Shake Shack's burgers are better. There, I said it. From the meat to the vegetables, each ingredient's quality is of the utmost freshest. The beef patty is juicy, tender and flavorful and is served in between a pillow soft potato bun. We also got the cheese fries and split a vanilla shake. While I'm not normally a fan of cheese sauce or crinkle-cut fries, they were solid and made a good accompaniment to the burgers. first thing is when using the new kiosk to order it told us to take a number so the food would be brought to us, I left a tip because I thought they would do that... They didn't. Second thing is the french fries were cold and not crispy at all. I took them back to get fresh ones twice because the second time they were still cold. the third batch of fries I watched come out of the fryer and they were still noy hot or crispy, gave up and ate them anyway. I used to love Shake Shack, what happened? Last night, we stopped in for a few burgers, my kid's veggie burger wasn't supposed to have cheese but it did (he didnt like the taste of the patty either so I didnt bother exchanging), my other kid's cheeseburger was fine but nothing to write home about, and my shackburger was not fresh at all: the lettuce was super wilted and the patty was not cooked well (completely raw in the middle and completely burnt on the outside) so it was a mish mash of terrible flavors and textures - I ended up tossing it out. Perhaps I had listened to too much hype or I'm just a So Cal native through and through and my loyalty to In n Out is just too strong. I ordered a single burger and immediately my inner fat girl wished I had ordered a double. It just looked kinda small compared to its competitors. The patty was charred perfectly, the toppings were fresh, the bun was soft and not too filling. About halfway through my meal it occurred to me what it was that was bothering me. "This is the kind of burger I would get at Disneyland" meaning it was a perfectly corporate, mass produced, commercial burger lacking any kind of homemade personality or character. Waited until the line died down a bit after the grand opening. I must say I've never tried Shake Shack before, but I've probably lived half my life on an in-n-out burger diet. I love that about in-n-out. You get to see how the food is handled and the cleanliness of the restaurant. Well the in-n-out kitchens are much more organized and "cleaner". What I mean by cleaner is that everything has it's place and when something is trash it goes in the trash. I saw a lot of random debris laying around on the floor and counters. It wasn't that pleasant of an view to be honest. Lots of sauce on counters and lettuce on the floor. I've been wanting to try this place out for awhile. They're famous in NYC and now they're finally here! Everyone is doing a comparison to In n Out. I can see why. Rather simple burger menu with shakes. Also it goes with the whole east versus west thing (although a lot of people would do the comparison with White Castle). I guess I will too. -LINES: Very long for both. No drive-through for Shake Shack, or at least this location. Shake shack will give you a gizmo that'll go off once your order is ready. In n Out just calls your number. BURGERS: I got the Smoke Shack which had ranch bacon, and cut cherry peppers. In terms of meat quality, I like Shake Shack better. The texture seems it's higher quality beef whereas In n Out feels like just any fast food burger. The bun for Shake Shack is sweet and a bit heavy. That's good if that's your thing. Also,the burger here is significantly smaller. FRIES: They serve crinkle cut fries here. I got mine with cheese and bacon on top. It was pretty good. However the actual fries itself is generic imo. In n Out is unique and if you do a blind tasting test, you'll know it's them right away. However I really don't like animal-style fries at all so I guess this place wins in terms of fries toppings. SHAKES: Very ornamented compared to In n Out. MENU: I like they they also sell chicken sandwiches here. They also sell wine and beer here. Much variety and I like that. Second time here and I have to say I had a much better experience. The staff was kind and attentive to my needs and provided me with the information I was asking about the menu with no hesitation or feelings of being rushed. I was able to try my food at a calm pace and the whole place was very clean and well air conditioned for the rising heat of the summer. The burgers are always really good here and I love that they have themed milkshakes every month! Came here on a stopover from visiting my fam and spending time with my girl. This place opened up fairly recently and it has an ideal location in the traffic that runs through downtown Glendale. I like the aesthetics of the outside and interior of this spot. Wood furnishing, grated metal kitchen interior, and black and grey tables under low hanging ceiling lights make this spot hipster, casual, and modern. In terms of the menu items. Im docking half a star cause of price for all the items. Im sure they're bomb, but wow. I ordered the rodeo double and a cheeseburger for my girl. Oh my god...the rodeo double has to be one of the best burgers I've had - super juicy, crunchy ends, cheese melted well, and caramelized beer battered onions which taste amazing. A few years ago I went to New York and made it a mission to try Shake Shack's Shack Stack absolutely fell in love. There's a reason why every store has ridiculously long lines! They finally extended out to the west coast which saves me a trip to New York to eat their delicious burgers. I went on Monday right before they opened and noticed a line was already forming! They're pretty efficient with 3 lines and 3 registers which was really nice. The food came out pretty quickly and tasted sooooo good! I even got my friends addicted to their Shack Stack. Being a California girl, In and Out is still my favorite and my number one burger joint, but living in NYC awhile back-I must admit I did have a love affair with Shake Shack while I was on the East Coast, and I was thrilled that they started opening locations on the West Coast. I first had Shake Shack on the West Coast in Vegas, and was ecstatic about this, but now that there is a location in my backyard, I'm even more excited, especially since I frequent the Glendale area. I had lunch here during opening weekend, and maybe because this place is brand spankin' new, everything was on point. The cheese fries were some of the best I can remember having at Shake Shack. I devoured the shake stack and fair trade coffee shake, trying to consume each item as slowly as possible to enjoy it as much as I could lol. Just so darn good! Eating here will cost you a pretty penny, much more than in and out, but there are also a lot of different options here such as the portobello burger that tops the shake stack (my fave of all time), chicken sandwiches a variety of burger toppings, a variety of shake flavors, and beer/wine. Pricey but tasty. I know it's very different from In n Out. I mean, their normal Shack Burger is more like on that Au Cheval/ Small Cheval directions. Tender beef, potato bun, cheese, soft, mushy, a little too salty imo. Still tasty. But and In n Out cheeseburger is tastier to me w the right toast on the bun, more structure on the bun, a smaller and worse patty but not overly salty, and top notch lettuce and tomato. They have made it to California right here Glendale and the line around the building resembles the drive through at In-N-Out. This Manhattan favorites has a pretty large selection of burger options as well as other items like a chicken sandwich, hot dogs and variations of cheese and other topping on fries as well. Not to mention the infamous Stumptown Coffee as well as other drink options with some pretty killer shakes. My son had the salted caramel shake and claimed it was the best thing he has had during his ten years on this earth until he followed it up with a bite of the burger which then took first place. Good quality burgers bread on the funs were soft and flavorful and fries were small cuts and tasted better than expected. My only complaint is the cost of the place. It is a very pricy dining experience compared to In-N-Out and while the quality is worth paying more for, I still felt like $75 for a family of six is a little much. I am an avid & a huge fan of Danny Meyers Shake Shacks!! For this particular location...Still waiting for them to work out the kinks. Burgers are not as juicy as the WeHo location. They seem to be over cooking them to well done and the flavor is lost for the burgers. Hopefully they get themselves together soon for their own sake. The concrete here taste better than the WeHo one. The Wisconson white cheddar bacon fries are so good! Service has been friendly every time and very accommodating except for 1 particular cashier with her eyeliner done as an Egyptian Princess. She needs to be more enthusiastic and crack a real smile and drop the tortured look fake act. She was no help on my 1st visit and twice after that. I avoid her line now when I see her. Other than that I will keep trying them time to time until they are like the other Shake Shack locations juicy, and perfect! read more
