    Midnight munchies MAY2026
    Franklin M.

If you want the best chili burgers in LA County make sure to stop at one of the Original restaurants. We ordered a #1 combo double cheeseburger with chili cheese fries and requested the burger to be cut in half. It was served extra sloppy with additional chili and it was delicious as always. The shared combo was more than enough to satisfy our midnight munchies.

    No extra chili at all.

Sad that the manager refuses to make the food per the order. I orders two chili burgers and a chili dog with extra chili. They usually put the extra chili on top of the patty. No more. Extra chili is like a regular chili burger.

I had this food delivered and the order error is no fault of the driver but of the restaurant. All of my food was ordered WITHOUT onions. What does the restaurant do? Douse my chili cheese fries with onions. I detest onions except in very limited circumstances - this was not one of these circumstances. Tommy's ruined a beautiful pairing of food by having me go without my fries. I know what you're thinking, just remove the onions. Can't do that because onions leave behind their flavor on whatever they touch. Now that I've complained enough about my fries, onto the other items. My burger was tasty but it was a mess, it definitely wasn't prepared with care. The entire burger fell apart but you betcha I ate every last bite after my fry disappointment. Since I was having this delivered, I needed a certain order total to use a promo code so I got a chili hotdog. I never tried this item before and I was surprised at how good this was. When I think Tommy's, a burger immediately comes to mind but this is a definite must try item, guys. The pairing of the chili with pickles and a tomato on a crunchy dog was . We all know this is "trash" food and as far from healthy as you can get but it's oh so yummy, especially when they don't eff up your fries. This will satisfy a comfort food craving, but I would probably recommend picking up your order to ensure the workers understand your order. I've been to this location and can assure you street parking is easy to find.

Let me tell you one thing....this place most definitely hits the spot after a night at the bar...actually vefore, during and after. I put down three strong margaritas at Amigos restaurant and cantina in Pasadena and wanted some kate night eats. Say no more...Tommy's to the rescue: I ordered the chili tamales..on other days I opted for delicious and filling chili cheeseburgers or chili fries. Sho' am good. Mention the special discounted ads that run every week and eat damn good for a bargain...definitely sho' am good!

Great food, prompt and friendly service with a nice al fresco sitting area. Tommy's won't ever go out of fashion! Most slept on menu item, their breakfast burrito. It's so unique!

Fast friendly window service. The fries were the best fast food joint fries I've had in years! So crispy on the outside and soft and pillowy on the inside! Yum! I ate it right there at the side tables, so everything was hot! Stuff may not be good for me but damn, it's so good!

Oh Tommy's, how I love you so--but as I've gotten older, my stomach seems to like you less and less! Nowhere is it more fun to grab a late night bite of hot, cheesy chili cheese fries and a messy chili cheeseburger than this decidedly un-fancy, non-pretentious burger stand on Colorado Blvd. in Eagle Rock. This is a place that knows what they're good at--their food--and doesn't put too much effort into things like ambience, overly friendly service, or amenities. You know that things are about to get messy when your meal comes with a small stack of paper towels! My favorite dish here since childhood has been their one-of-a-kind chili cheese fries, featuring thick-cut fries, a ladle full of slightly spicy no-bean chili, and a slice of American cheese served in a little boat in a cardboard box. The nostalgic taste, coupled with just the right amount of heat from the chili, the cheesiness, and a little messiness can't be beat. Their breakfast burrito featuring chili and a crispy hash brown are an unexpected surprise as well. Lately, they've upped their social media game and now offer periodic coupons/special offers on their IG and Facebook pages, so follow them for sporadic special offers--many of which are a great opportunity for a cheap and delicious meal! Tommy's accepts credit card and Apple Pay as well for your convenience! So overall: -The Good: Affordable, delicious food. Just a little messy, probably just a little unhealthy, but their chili game is strong here! -The Bad: Lines can be long and parking spots are hard to come by here! -The Ugly: No healthy options to be found here. Bring a Tums or some Pepto Bismol if you've got a sensitive stomach. You have been warned :)

I have to make this stop while I'm in California.. so far only unique to So Cal. The taste has so far been always what I remember, warm chili on two hot hamburger patties with a thick juicy slice of tomato, sprinkled with onions. The Eagle rock one I went last night had a drive through, the service was fast and good , I was given extra yellow peppers. Even though this is a new location to me the ambiance is very similar to the original location with the red roof.

I'm so disappointed with the price vs the portion of food I paid 14 dollars for a combo and the burger was microscopic. It's unfortunate I've always enjoyed Tommy's but I can get better value somewhere else.

The Best!! To say the least. I've been coming here since 1977 and always have loved eating here. The Old School Drive In to order is still there. Some of the best Burgers in town.

The Bucket was one of my favorite places to get a filthy burger, and in Eagle Rock, several of my favorites could be found, such as Original Tommy's Hamburger, The Oinkster, and Pete's Blue Chip. A very good friend of mine recently mentioned that this place had reopened and enjoyed a burger without inviting me! So, I had to see and taste for myself. If I remembered correctly, they had been closed for a while, and then I guess got resurrected. Apparently, they had been around since 1935, and when I started eating here, they had hilarious burger names, such as Cardiac Arrest, Heart Attack... you got the idea. Would this bucket contain all of the fond memories of years past!? PURCHASE(S) Firestone Walker Brewing Co. Trumer Pils German Pilsner Beer 4.9% ABV 16floz Draft ($7.00): Clear amber color, cider hoppy aroma, low body, crisp light hoppy flavor, smooth finish, and dry light hoppy aftertaste - a very easy brew. Double Western Burger ($10.35): A simple burger made with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, onion rings, and BBQ sauce all between a fluffy bun, this messy two-hander was strong with its thick patties and stuff squeezing out all over the place. This was a finger-licking good burger at a really nice price! [ONION RINGS/STRAWS/STRINGS ALERT - 4.0 of 5.0 STARS] Onion Rings w/Aiolo Dipping Sauce 7pc ($5.65): A small portion with rings of large sizes, these were hot, dark golden browned, crunchy, and had a tendency to crumble when bitten into while the onion ring (not sweet Maui) pulled out at times. They were lightly oily while the aioli helped to give them more flavor. Mango Habanero Hot Wings & Veggie Sticks w/Bleu Cheese Dipping Sauce 6pc ($8.25): Somewhat small drummetes and wingettes, there was just enough tender meat on the bones while the mango habanero sauce was surprisingly hot and sweet, I also used the very tame bleu cheese sauce although it wasn't needed. The veggie stickers were small, fresh, and helped to cleanse the palate. At about $1.38/piece, it was a relatively good deal and tasty for what you got. SERVICE You had the option to order at a kiosk or with a friendly young man at the order window (I chose the latter). He easily and quickly took my order, gave me my beer while I waited, and less than ten minutes later, everything was packed up and ready to go - easy-peasy! PARKING (Varied: FREE this instance): I found a spot in their tiny lot (less than five spots). Otherwise, there seemed to be plenty of spots along the main drag of Eagle Rock Blvd. (be sure to read all posted signs) - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE Basically a takeout business with a handful of communal metal tables, chairs, and some barstools in an outdoor covered patio with a lone order window. This was very barebones, rustic, and practical. There was plenty of natural lighting while some electric lights filled in the rest with some possible help from the nearby street lights. There was one TV but no background music. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL I was very glad to see that The Bucket had returned (when, I had no idea), and I planned to reacquaint myself with their entire menu. Speaking of the menu, it now had a Mexican portion (burritos, tacos, tortas) that I didn't recall from previous times; furthermore, their burger selection has been scaled back with none of the earlier-mentioned burgers that led you closer to a hospital visit. Regardless, the food was very good, affordable, no frills, and the service was straightforward. Plus, I always preferred to give my business to local small mom & pop businesses. I found complete value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $34.00 BEFORE any discounts, points usage, and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 5.0 STARS

Ambiance & Food: This reminds me of an old school burger stand. Those were the best burgers and this one did not stop that trend. As I walked up, we were warmly greeted and given a quick rundown of what which burger. They did have specials (I will get to that in a second) which we were intrigued, but for the sake of perspective, I ordered the Goldburger and both regular fries and curly fries with a bottle coke. The Goldburger is naturally a double, but my gymrat protein brain added that extra patty. They use a 70% to 30% mixture for their burger which makes the burger oh so decadent. The picture I took doesn't do it justice. The moment you bite into the burger the combination of burger juice, aioli, burnt skirt, all come together in such a harmonious fashion. It was remarkable. Though fries are not one of my strong points, both fries were crispy and I haven't had any other experience with Curly fries other than Jack in the Box, but these were so much better. I went ahead and dipped the fries in some homemade Aioli and dang, what a combo! Back to those specials, the current special is CHILI, I was intrigued so they gave me a small container of it to try. So obvious and yet, in this vast cosmopolitan metropolis we call LA, known for its proliferation of fusion foods and hip gourmet pioneers galore, Mex-Medi cuisine is SHOCKINGLY far and few (if even that) between, that is, UNTIL NOW... But it makes sense doesn't it? The Arabs colonized Spain, the Spaniards did Mexico, and the Lebanese, while they may not have forced in the same history of intrusive involvement, nevertheless, they introduced Al Pastor, which is now virtually inseparable from what we call in the modern age, PROPER Mexican food. So duh! Given all that Middle Eastern and Mexican food should work and it DOES, ESPECIALLY here. Thank you, MUCHISIMAS GRACIAS señores and señoras for having my quintessential favorite -- the medi taco -- with Pastor ESPECIALLY. The kebob, the falafel, and just about anything among the quality staples of Mexican meats are just as well fine additions. And not only is the food to die for, but the service gives off an at-home dining experience; simply put, here they are very much to the ROOTS. Friendly faces, welcome attention, a REAL mom-and-pop operation, and when stopping by for these homey and amazingly delicious foods, what is better than feeling at home than imagining your sinking into a savory bite of Abuela's cooking while being embraced by her unmatched hospitality? HOWEVER, given what was mentioned about the scarcity of Mexican-Mediterranean eateries, I just WISH that this location was more visible and distinguished from the outside to show for the exceeded potential that the food has surpassed!!! But many would never know, or at the very leastmost, be hinted at. The color-flashing strip lights along the windows make it seem like it's any other Mexican hole-in-the wall or taco truck, just about ANYWHERE in LA, which it is DEFINITELY NOT. As a former CFO in a couple of catering industries with a minor of arts in still photography, I commend the quality but I remain critical of the presentation. In relating to aesthetics, it could do without the tacky lighting (both inside and outside) so as to stand out competitively against the exhausting clusters upon clusters of taquerias and Mexican restaurants painting all over this city of angels. Why reinvent the wheel when you invented the motor? You've already gone this far, as to my knowledge, running the ONLY Medi-Mex restaurant I've come to know, so why not take it all the way?, and let the exterior presentation show inside how excellent the food is provided that now the food has more than spoken for itself. Just my two cents. I'll definitely be coming back. My friends will too, if they can get past their pedestrian socialite vanity, beyond superficial, detached preconceptions, that this is NO ordinary Mexican restaurant. Presentations should be damned, but this is the world we're living in. The food may be good (in this case EXCELLENT), but the bitter truth is appearances DO matter. Join the pepsi generation and EXPAND! Respecto y amor only from a jaded and seasoned waspy foodie... - J.D.
