Shake shack is to McDonald's as chipotle is to Taco Bell, a little pricier, but worth it. I got the hot chicken sandwich. Good crunch on the fried batter and just a little bit of a kick with some slaw on top. The fries are . Do yourself a favor and splurge with some custard after your meal. The burgers here are better than most. I especially like their fries. The cheese fries were delicious. There is usually a wait and as many Yelpers mentioned, there is next to nothing seating inside. These are two annoying factors since the burgers are good but they are not wait forever and have no table good. Hidden in the corner of Tyson's Corner outdoor plaza, you'll find the only Shake Shack (that I'm aware of) outside of Washington, D.C. While there's a national debate over what is the best burger joint, I always feel Shake Shack is underrated. The burgers are pretty small, but the patties are always juicy, the veggies are always fresh, and the buns are always sweet. I love shake shack and have always considered them to have the best burgers. However, I have been getting more frustrated with the service at the Tyson's location. Their online ordering never seems to be working and twice when ordering at this location, they have forgotten my order. The third time today, I waited outside in the freezing cold to avoid crowding the area and I received no notification that my order was ready. I don't understand why they would ask for my phone # but not send me a notification when my food is ready. I have had great experiences at the shake shack in the NY locations and the one in DC but the Tyson's location needs some work. Super, Super disappointed. My husband and I LOVE shake Shack! We lived and PA and would drive 40minutes to enjoy a great burger and some yummy cheese fries! Sadly this experience was VERY disappointing. First off it is impossible to find, I had to ask 15 YES fifteen people RIDICULOUS!! I tried to call the "manager" line to find out an easy way to get there but it went to voicemail. It was jammed packed (most shake shacks are) but man were there rude costumers and employees. Stacked burgers, crinkle-cut fries, and bomb-ass shakes. Shake Shack is where it's at! Their Tysons Plaza location is always slammed around lunch and dinner-time, but the staff is friendly and the good is tasty. So far I've tried the shack burger, the chicken shack, and the strawberry shake. The chicken sandwich is actually really great -- crispy but juicy, and a good sized sandwich. It's got a full breast, kinda like a Chick-fil-A sammy. The shakes are awesome. There's not a ton of actual seating inside, so I recommend taking your grub to go on cold days. When the weather is nice, though, they've got some nice outdoor seating! There's also a neat play place right next to the outdoor seating area for the kiddos to go nuts on. The only downside is that the bill can add up pretty quick -- soft drinks are an additional $3, and everything has to be ordered separately (no combo deals here.) But especially compared to your standard fast food burgers, Shake Shack tastes great and is a great quick lunch option in the Tysons area for sure. read more

Weird deal. Last Saturday 9/14 we ordered burgers and fries and they were perfect, like best in memory. Then today 9/21 we placed the exact same order and everything tasted like it had been sitting out for a long time. The burgers were dried out and the fries were just all wrong compared to a week ago. The only difference is our 9/14 our order was at 5:00 pm and today it was 8:00 pm. Conclusion is this location cooks a lot of their food in advance and the earlier in the day you can go the better. Service: 5 stars Food: 3 stars Location: 5 stars Seating: 2 stars The restaurant is very small but it's in a wonderful spot. There is a lot seating outside but the inside is small. I believe I counted about 6 tables total inside. When you first walk in the menu is largely viewed on the wall to the right. The staff was very welcoming, funny, informative and probably the only reason I will be going back. I give them an A+ for service. Their burgers are small so I would suggest getting the double patties. Their fries also come in a smaller portion but it's perfect for 1. I thought I'd try out one of their floats which was recommended to me(orange something) and I had to trash the whole thing :(.... It wasn't good at all. I should've gone with the root beer instead. I have to start this review with a disclaimer that I do not like burgers. However, I did try the Chicago Dog here, which was laden with all sorts of delicious toppings, including some just spicy enough peppers and veggies that make you feel like you're having a "balanced meal!" Haha, just don't order the cheese fries ;) I tried some of the fries of the people I went with though, and they were very tasty and fresh. According to them, the burgers are top notch, and the prices are super top notch! Calories are also listed for all menu items. I was so excited to hear that Shake Shack was opening in Tysons Corner. This area is just boomin' with new developments and this outdoor plaza feature of the Tysons Corner Mall is awesome. Props to Shake Shack for jumping on this location. My single shack burger with everything (except they forgot onions) was good, maybe even better than a few other Shake Shack burgers I've had in their DC locations. I attribute that to them being a little less busy at the time than their DC counterparts, but we'll see how they hold up to increasing demand and popularity. I sat outside in their patio section, which is completely covered with umbrellas so no one needs to be fighting over shade during the hot months. Napkins are readily available on each table. When I came, the patio was fairly empty and completely clean - no food or wrappers or trash on the floor. Yes, some tables are squeezed snugly but that can be easily fixed by moving them apart. To be fair, I actually saw more families place tables together than break them apart. I also didn't see a lot of trouble with folks walking through the patio area, although I can imagine it being a bigger challenge when it's more crowded. Nothing, however, that warrants less in the rating. The service was top notch. One server came around and asked if we wanted waters, which he promptly fetched for us. I never experienced that in any other Shake Shack locations. The only very minor downside to this location (if it even counts as one) is that this new outdoor plaza has two ping pong tables located right next to the outdoor patio of Shake Shack, so players often lose the ping pong balls in the patio and will either go around looking for it while you're eating or you'll have to lend a hand and throw it back to them. I can see this being varying degrees of annoyance for folks. The new outdoor plaza is really cool. Aside from the ping pong tables, there's cornhole, a giant chess set, and plenty of benches and other seating. A new Hyatt Regency is being built, as well as a new apartment building called Vita - both which rise above and overlook the plaza. In addition to free Tysons Corner Mall wifi, Shake Shack also offers free wifi! read more

I was recently at this location, and I was really looking forward to giving it a try. I had been to one of the DC locations before and only had a shake, but this time I went for the single cheeseburger with fries and the Christmas cookie holiday shake. First of all, the shake was really freaking good. It tasted kinda like cake batter ice cream with the colored cookie sugar sprinkled in. I love that their shakes and malts use actual ice cream instead of whatever places like McDonalds use. My only beef with them is the quantity of their burgers and fries vs what they charge. The single cheeseburger with fries sets you back about $8.29, and when you add the shake it was about $14. Plus, the service was a little slow. I want to judge Shake Shack fairly among similar restaurants, and I know they're a step above a place like Mickey D's or BK or Wendy's, but if you compare their cost to a place like In-N-Out out west it's about twice the cost for a meal that's not on par. Stick to the shakes, unless you really want to splurge on a small (but tasty) fast food meal. read more

Shake Shack has finally arrived at Tysons I. And with their arrival, Tysons Corner Center is now a hub for the "upscale burger joint" that dominates the quick casual dining scene these days. Shake Shack joins Five Guys, Elevation Burger, and BGR as options for your $10 gourmet burger and fries fix at Tysons Corner Mall/Center. Finding Shake Shack, however, is a bit of a trick. They technically aren't IN the mall - they're in a little shack (how appropriate!) next to the Ice Skating rink, part of the new exterior plaza of the mall/center. If you're coming into the mall from the Metro, you cant miss it. If you are coming from inside, you can duck down either the side hall where the skating rink entrance, or the next one down where the mall entrance next to the plaza is located. Arriving at just after opening time (11AM) meant that I was customer #2 for the day and got the A+ Shake Shack treatment. Service was super friendly and helpful - the cashier even offered a free refill of the draft Abita Root Beer. (Refills are usually extra. Also, they have Abita Root Beer on tap FTW!) Even though I've only been to Shake Shack once, I already have a go to. The Shack Stack - their Shack Burger topped with a fried, cheese-stuffed portobello mushroom - is a sinful mix of everything that I love. And this Shack Stack was just as good as the one I had at Union Station, i.e. heavenly. While I'm giving them 5-stars for my 11AM weekday visit, our esteemed CMOTUS's assessment is dead on. This Shake Shack is about as large as the Union Station location, with extremely limited interior seating. I can't imagine how they handle the crowds during a weekend, or where these people eat their Shake Shack at (long trek to the Food Court perhaps?) And with all the little crumbsnatchers and their parents coming in from skating to grab a drink or snack, I can see how this place can get dirty quickly. Still, I have to rate on my experience, and it's 5-stars for me ... although I have a mental note to come here at off-hours to ensure proper Shake Shack service. read more

Completely satisfactory, and I mean that in the best way possible. Nothing really to rave about, but this is a solid place to satisfy that greasy burger craving. I was in the mall for some much needed wardrobe updates when I happened to pass by this location and decided on a whim I would give it a try on my way out. First things first: The burger. I ordered the Smoke Shack, single patty. The style of burger here is something I would describe as "authentic fast food," with a smaller patty and gooey cheese on a soft bun. I liked the tang that the cherry pepper relish adds, but it kind of overpowers everything else. Not necessarily a bad thing, it's just not what I was expecting from the name. Good textures, tender and juicy beef. I think a smaller patty usually results in better overall balance. I want to taste every flavor in each bite, and there's nothing worse than trying to choke down a giant, dry meat puck. Nowadays I rarely give into the temptation of fries, but I figured I had to try them in order to give this place a fair evaluation. I'm not really a fan of crinkle cut fries in general, and the ones they serve here aren't changing my mind. However, they were darn good examples within the category, and in there's something to be said for doing something right these days, no matter how seemingly simple or trivial. I'm not sure why they don't have a bigger indoor seating area as there is only enough space for maybe 16-20 people. This place is probably a mad-house on Friday and Saturday nights, so consider yourself warned. read more

We visited Washington D.C. this weekend and after discovering the convenience of this Shake Shack at the mall, we couldn't resist the temptation to try it. At other locations we saw the line go out the door and onto the street, but at Tyson's, we were able to walk right up to the counter and order without waiting in line. The highlight of my meal was the Shack Stack burger. It is a cheeseburger and one of their Shroom Burgers all on one bun. Surprisingly, the burger wasn't greasy and I didn't feel disgusting like I normally do after eating a fast food burger (like Five Guys). I really enjoyed the crunch from the fried Portobello mushroom. And then as soon as you bite into the crunch, you have gooey muenster and cheddar cheese. Soooo good! This isn't a burger that I would be able to find anywhere else. But unfortunately the burger was almost $10, by itself... But who goes to get a burger and doesn't get fries? So that adds on a few more bucks too. And the fries were not anything special. They are the typical crinkle fries that you can get at lots of places and the price for the cheese sauce just didn't seem like it was worth it for an additional cost. I finished up my meal with one of their coffee shakes and while it was good, I enjoy Cook Out milkshakes more. If half stars were possible, I would give them 3.5 stars (They get the extra half star for the gooey cheese in the mushroom). While I am glad that I tried Shake Shack, I don't think I would go out of my way to have it again while there are so many other great places to try in the DC area. I went for opening day, and this location is really cool! I'm a huge fan of Shake Shack's other locations, and this one will be up to par with the ones in DC I'm sure. It's right by the Silver Line (not sure if the entrance closest to it is open yet though) and is part of the Tyson's Plaza, which appears to be in the process of getting built right now. There is a cute playground right next to the Shake Shack, and I saw some games like ping pong and giant chess being played. Very fun! Now on to the food--I'm SO GLAD that Shake Shack brought back the crinkle fries. They are delish, especially when topped with that amazing addictive cheese sauce. This was my first time trying the Shack Stack, which has both a cheeseburger and portabella mushroom burger on it. It was fine but a little overcooked. I really liked the frozen custard with the Beesting bar from Baked & Wired in it. Just an FYI, there is not a lot of indoor seating here, but there is TONS of outdoor seating. Hallelujah, the Lord has listened to my prayers. He has rained down manna from heaven in the form of beef patties, cheese stuffed mushrooms, and succulent ruffle-cut fries. All I have to do is pay $12 bucks for my double shack stack (smoke shack if I'm feeling more meat that day) and fries and I am a happy camper. I had high expectations going to Shake Shack for the first time, and I'd have to say that I wasn't overly impressed, but not disappointed with it. The restaurant and service were all great and I loved the modern vibe it has. The location at Tyson's is mainly outdoor seating, which can be inconvenient if there's bad whether and seating inside is very limited. The menu is also simplistic and made ordering very easy. I also liked how they had a line solely dedicated to ice cream, which makes ordering dessert convenient since you can avoid the main line. The food overall is good quality, but a little overpriced for the amount you get. I ordered a single patty shack burger, shack-ago dog, fries, and a coffee fare chocolate milk shake. My meal came out to $17, $12 without the shake and just water as a drink. The burger tasted good, and the beef patty was cooked perfectly to a medium well with a great crunchy exterior. The burger was a little smaller than I expected, but instead ordering a double, I went with the shack-ago dog for some variety. The hot dog was tasty, and grilled split down the middle to give it some crunch. All of the toppings were fresh and really made the hot dog worth it, especially the relish. The fries were a bit lacking however and were just regular crinkle fries, nothing special. The coffee chocolate shake was smooth, had a strong coffee and chocolate blended taste, and surprisingly did not make me feel bloated afterwards. Overall, the food at Shake Shack is good, but is overpriced for the portion size. They definitely have great quality burgers, but the size of the burger is small and the fries are just okay. Compared to Five Guys, the Shake Shack burger patty is definitely better and far less greasy, but Five Guys has way more toppings and their portion sizes are much bigger. This was my first time at a Shake Shack and it was not bad. I had the Shack burger, tried the Smokeshack and had some cheese fries with a purple cow float. -The burgers were tasty. Juicy and flavorful. -The cheese fries were VERY meh. It was just american cheese melted on top of fries. Not worth it. -The purple cow float..was alright..for the first few sips, then you realize you still have the whole cup to finish. It was grape soda with vanilla ice-cream. It's an odd mix that my taste buds couldn't really accept. Overall, it was okay. It gets 3 stars because it's a nice new area of the mall, but the cheese fries were sub-par and the purple cow float was meh. I may consider trying this place again in the future and probably won't get the stuff I didn't like. I will update if my rating changes. read more
