I decided to order takeout for dinner. First, kudos to the app I get special BOGO or free sandwich if you spend $$. Definitely get the app. On this particular Thursday the place was fairly busy sounds 6pm. I had place the order through the app with anticipation for about 20 min wait. I decided to get the K-Shack Burger. It seasonal but sounded delicious. While waiting to either order on the kiosk or like most order on app out Uber Eats pick up. The place was organized so the place run like a machine. The staff worked as a team and orders were coming out pretty quickly. My only observation is that one of the staff didn't know how to keep the place as clean as it should even though it wasn't complicated. Throw the patter torn off to package takeout in the garbage. Small details but make the place big difference. Upon arrival if home we opened up the burgers just as described. The nest is tender with the crispy onion that added a nice texture. The Korean bbq sauce and scallion takes the burger to another level. It is a must. All in all a great experience. Just tidy up. read more

This review is for Shake Shack and let's just get into it... because baby, that Valentine's shake?? I'm still thinking about it. So yes, your girl is a little late with this one -- life be LIFE-ING -- but this was back in February when they had the chocolate-covered strawberry shake, and I need them to understand... that shake was a DREAM. First of all, the presentation? Elite. Your cup is coated in this chocolate shell, then filled with the strawberry shake, topped with chocolate whipped cream and chocolate curls. Like... who told them to do all that?? And then you crack the shell while you're drinking it? Yeah, no. That was an experience. You could sip and crack it as you go, or save it and break it at the end and just enjoy the chocolate however you want. Either way -- it was EVERYTHING. I was going back just for that shake. No shame. And if you didn't get to try it? I'm sorry for you, truly. Hopefully they bring it back because they did what needed to be done. Now outside of my shake obsession, I keep it pretty classic. My mom actually switched it up this time and did a Coke float -- and listen... don't sleep on a good float. They also had a tiramisu shake at the time, but she stayed true to her vibe and it worked. Shake Shack was a disappointment today. It's my daughter's birthday weekend so I told her we would shop wherever she wanted and I would buy her lunch in the hood. Before we went home we stopped by Shack and since it was open and we haven't been in a while, she said she would like a burger. Ordering was easy and while my daughter waited for our food I used the bathroom. I told my daughter if she wasn't ready to eat she could take hers home but I had to eat! I ordered a Flat Dog with Cheese and a Single Scoop of Chocolate Ice Cream for my side. The ice cream was the best part of the meal. The hot dog was so tough to bite into and definitely overcooked. I sure hope I can digest it. My daughter took photos of her lunch that she ate when she arrived home. She said her hamburger was definitely overcooked also. No complaints about the fries. All I can say is after spending over $24 for lunch I won't be returning any time soon! We agreed on Three Stars for overcooking the meat! Forgot! I had to return to the counter because I paid extra for cheese on my hotdog and it was dry. They did give me a good helping of cheese and it's very tasty but how do you forget something like that. You are almost certainly familiar with Shake Shack. It's a respectable member of the fast casual tier, alongside chains like Five Guys and Smashburger. The food here is a fair representation of Shake Shack offerings. There are fewer varieties of burger and less toppings than Smash Burger but more than Five Guys. The crinkle fries are bit softer than my preference, but at least not overly greasy. The chicken sandwiches are solid and on par with the burgers. As to this specific location, it's busy and a bit chaotic. I would definitely avoid the restrooms--they are gross even by New York public toilet standards. On the plus side, it has a nice outdoor seating area, but you'll have to ignore the sticky tables. I would probably not recommend this Shake Shack over the nearby options. read more

One of the items on my list was to visit a Shake Shack and try what's been labeled America's best burger. (Flash forward, while I absolutely loved it, it just can't beat In-N-Out.) Our experience here was fantastic. We chose a location on our walk when we needed a break and a snack. This one was down a flight of stairs off the main street, with outdoor seating adjacent. They also had restrooms at the back. The menu here is simple, with burgers, fries, shakes, and drinks. Another draw for me was finally getting to try a Brooklyn Brewery Shakemeister beer brewed just for the chain. It was a great pairing, one I recommend to all burger & beer fans. Their prices are super reasonable for the quality of the sandwich - the bun was fresh, meat cooked well and great quality, and produce fresh and crisp. Staff here was also super patient helping us order and bringing our food. I highly recommend trying a Shake Shack (whether this location or another) to all burger fans out there. read more

I can't believe I haven't written a review of Shake Shack yet. They have solid burgers. The quality is consistent and they use fresh ingredients (never frozen beef and chicken). I recommend downloading their app since they occasionally have deals for app users, like a buy one get one free Shackburger deal that's available now. Shackburger- ($6.69 plus tax)- a thin griddled burger comes adorned with cheese, lettuce, tomato, shack sauce (mayo, mustard, ketchup, a little pickle brine, a little heat and some secret ingredient(s)). You can add pickles to your burger for free, so why not. If you're pretty hungry, I'd recommend making it a double with two burger patties. They also have frozen custard, shakes, good lemonades, fries. The cheese sauce is yummy- like melted American cheese that is thick and great. I like to dip fries in this sauce. Back in the day they had these concretes, frozen custard with mix-ins. Shake Shack, please bring these back! This would make me a very happy camper. Shake Shack is still good, but mystifyingly, for takeout, they don't "protect" your food. McDonalds wraps that order down TIGHT, you know if your courier has tampered with that order. My local Mom-and-Pop places also wrap up and lock down everything TIGHT. But Shake Shack barely makes an attempt- just a very flimsy bag seal, easily tamperable without detection. 3.5* Came at 2 in the afternoon, and was intrigued by their Buffalo chicken sandwich. Waited probably 15 minutes- not a problem. Sat outside to eat which was nice. The sandwich was underwhelming - the chicken piece was a bit small but the flavor was good! It's not spicy, definitely a mild Buffalo sauce but it DID taste good! I just wish it was a bigger piece of chicken. Also tried their spiced cheese fries - they were fine. After a while the cheese tasted like a Mac & cheese sauce so it was very confusing. When I opened the box of chicken I was so disappointed of what I saw. I was given the bottom of the bottom scraps. What I received is nothing to what they advertise online. After the massive expansion of Shake Shack, I soon came to realize that not all locations are forged the same. The food experience I once remembered back when there was only one local at Madison Square Park has been a long forgotten memory. A wonderful memory when the food was made to order, always came hot and fresh, and the burgers were cooked and assembled to perfection. The store I frequent (UES Manhattan), although seemly great workers with good attitudes, are grossly inconsistent. The burgers usually come over cooked, sloppily put together, and with old withered veg toppings. Also, the Fries are stale and lukewarm depending on when you order. Other locations would be plus or minus as well (mostly plus compared to the UES location), but for the most part, I have been chasing a quality that I find is completely lacking now. Sadly, I accepted that this was just going to be the norm after Shake Shack became public. It was only after attending a private event hosted by Danny Meyer himself that I was inspired to write this review. At this event, Danny Meyer had Shake Shack cater a section of the food table. At first, I scoffed at this booth thinking it was only a novelty item to have at this exclusive USHG celebration. But then, at first bite of this Single Shake Burger, it brought me back to 2005 standing in line, outdoors, for over an hour in Madison Square Park to enjoy what was to become my favorite burger in NYC! Now I realize Shake Shack can still be great again; not just an "above average" fast food chain. Some cook, or team of cooks, took the extra effort to provide Danny Meyer the best burgers with the same ingredients found in each Shake Shack location. These burgers, at this event, were: 1) NOT cooked to order, 2) MADE in large volume, 3) held up to travel (to the event), 4) and not warmed or displayed under warming lamps; YET still these burgers were better than any burger I had since the 2015 opening of the USE location, and every other location I visited since the expansion. There is my feedback. I hope it can inspire change. read more

Do you remember when you could order a single scoop of a seasonal flavor of ice cream in a cone at Shake Shack? There were often mix-ins like fruit pie from a local business. Not now, you don't want a single sized 1000 calorie PRIDE shake? Too bad. Do you remember when you could order a Chicago Dog that ran through the garden at Shake Shack? Do you remember when Shake Shack had a community board (now replaced with app pick-ups while the above options are defunct). The point I'm getting at is that Shake Shack in 2024 is so streamlined that visiting your neighborhood location has no more soul than visiting a location at LGA. Or an Amazon Go store. Just scan my retinas. The UES menu is getting so short that it now has negative space on it. The burger with extra toppings that I received was missing its bun or rather what was left of the torn bun was comically shaped like a bikini bottom. I asked for a replacement bun and received it but the burger itself was still sad- overly salty, too fatty to chew so maybe better if you're toothless? A woman adjacent to me replaced a chair at her table with a highchair and then wordlessly moved her chair to my table. Even on a UES rampant with children I have never seen this behavior. Why wouldn't you leave the chair at your table but instead drag it to a stranger's table? An added note that the outdoor space has been under scaffolding forever. If you someone see a photo uploaded on their business site with the outdoor space covered in living flowers, landscaping and sunlight, that photo is from 2010. Passing by before 11:00 and seeing it was not crowded I decided to order a burger as a quick snack. I looked at the product display board just down the steps and decided to order a burger without cheese. It lists that it also included lettuce and tomato. When I got to the counter as I was beginning to open the order monitor, a lady offered to take my order, burger without cheese.....for $8.00. I got the burger, sat down and got on my phone. By the time I was nearly finished with a rather boring meal, I realized that I hadn't received the lettuce and tomato. I went to the counter and asked for the manager, initial "I" (as I don't want to shame him.) I explained the situation and he explained that I received the burger that I had ordered. He tried to show me on the monitor that I never saw, that a "plain burger" is what I had ordered. I tried to explain that I ordered off the board which offered Shack burger with lettuce and tomato without the cheese. So he got a bit testy and asked "what can I do" before sullenly walking away. Besides the disappointing customer service, I feel that $8.00 is far overpriced for a rather boring piece of heated chopped meat between two buns. If you weren't craving burgers before, just walking on 86th between Lex and 3rd will make you want one. They have the vents from the grills blowing out into the street and I could not pass it up. The staff was super friendly and speedy in taking my order and the wait is comparable to the fresh food being prepared. I ordered the veggie burger with no bun, fries, a cookies and cream shake and a half and half (Arnold palmer). The veggie burger is a black bean patty with beets and when you bite into you can see the red beets. So you know it's a good quality veggie burger. It had a nice crisp to the outside with the chewy center and the lettuce and veggies on it. The fries are YUM. Crinkle fries with a nice crunch as you bite into them and a chewy center. And perfectly salted. The shake was an actual shake you can drink. I'm so used to Utah where they make everything concrete so this was a special treat. It tasted just like when you have a bowl of ice cream and it starts to melt. So good. Glad I got to stop in the shack since I hear about it all the time. I ate some so called "spicy fries" today, and may I say, they were just dusted with chipotle seasonings or something. 5 guys has better fries...SmashBurger makes a superior sandwich. Stopped in today to grab lunch (12/28/22); The pros: The cashier that took my order was so nice and welcoming. Since I didn't order on Uber Eats I waited in the pick up area. It was extremely crowded and just people on top of one another. It's was an afternoon lunch rush and it's also the holiday season so that's a little expected. The seating area was kind of filthy and I had to grab someone to clean the table area underneath the window. He was extremely kind and came right over to take care of it. The con: the restroom (right side) and the fries were 1/2 empty when receiving them and hard. I glanced at the person next to me who was eating the same fries and theirs had the proper serving! Everything else tastes good but the fries were horrible. I love Shake Shack and I often frequent between this location and 125th St. I think it's safe to say moving forward (when in the area) I will make sure to order from an online app (so my food looks like the presentation you get when you order online first!) Honestly I will probably stick to your Upper West Side location moving forward. However I do not want to take away how professional and friendly the staff is at the 86st location. I would still recommend this location to others; but if I had to choose based on the preparation of the meal I'm going to say that it's more space in the upper Westside location and the food is good whenever I order online or come in to dine. The 4 stars is for all of the staff in which I interacted with today because they deserve to be highlighted for their great customer service. Obviously it's a chain but there's a few things I appreciate about this location. First is that they have all the veggie options that Shake Shack offers. I'm came here recently to try their plant based chocolate milkshake, and it was actually pretty good. It tasted like and had the consistency of pudding which I found delicious. They also sell a real veggie burger here (not the cheese and mushroom filled veggie burger that seems less healthy than a real burger). They also have ample outdoor seating now with heat lamps which I appreciated the other day when it was chilly. Overall my favorite Shake Shack. read more

I love Shake Shack. That is a known fact to people who know me. This location in particular is the where the Shack Track & Field UES group meets the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 7pm to run 4-5 miles then meet back at Shake Shack for a free beer (or wine) reward. I love that Shake Shack does this. It's not just in NYC, where they also have a group at Union Square & Battery Park, but it's all across the country. Even Austin, TX has a group but I didn't know about it until after I moved to NYC. But more importantly, the food. My go to is a single ShackBurger and fries. I also love their Chick'n Shack sandwich. The buttermilk herb mayo and pickles combined with the fried chicken breast is unlike any other chicken sandwich I've tried. They also have a spicy version but it's not always available. I have yet to try the hotdogs, but that's only because I love burgers so much, it really hasn't crossed my mind. Shakes are good, but can be rich. I love the chocolate and mint versions the most. Every May they even have a promotion tied with No Kid Hungry where if you donate $2, you get a coupon that can be redeemed for a free shake. It's a no brainer since it's for a good cause, and the shakes retail for over $5. Their chocolate custard is very tasty too. Customer service is always on point here and the food comes out pretty fast. This location has a lot of outdoor seating but with the winter months it's not as useful although they do have a few overhead heater lamps. And now I'm hungry. The shakes come half full, yes you heard me correctly... 6 or so dollars later and the shake isn't even filled NEAR the top. It's just a little over half full... idk if this is laziness or that's the shake shake way but our food was made incorrectly despite ordering correctly and the whole experience was not good.
