I want to start off with the Boss Juan here. He has amazing customer service. He leads by example and all his employees are elevated because of him. All the food is freshly prepared. Boss Juan also has an assistant manager named Jeremy that's also very hospitable and leads by example. He also insures everyone is taken care of and keeps up on the food. I've been to Shakey's as a kid and only remember it as a nostalgic place, where I ate lots of Mojo potatoes. After a morning playing Pokemon GO in the heat, my kiddo and I stopped by to escape the scorch of summer and play keep away from the XBox & PS5 at home. This particular Shakey's is up the street from Forest Lawn (which is full of Pokemon GO finds btw) and it was on the way back to our home so the time was right - it was lunchtime. To be quite frank, this 5 star review is more about the overall experience. The food overall is ok, nothing that would grant it Michelin stars and def not in my top 5 pizza places. However, the quick and friendly service went above and beyond to deserve the 5 star rating. I was also surprised at the cleanliness all around. Juan Medina was always cleaning and helping guests, including us. Juan, the manager & Jeremy were very helpful, especially in the Arcade and Ordering sections. Foodwise, the pizza is okay imo. I'd give it a 3 on the scale of pizzas, but I'm kinda a thick crust snob. However, my kiddo loves how it's crispy on the bottom and soft on top. It's a THIN Crust for those who like that cracker-like crunch yet soft cheesiness on top. He says it beats out Chuck E. Cheese and bday party pizzas. My child gives it a 5 out of 5. I, myself, ordered the 2 Chicken Lunch Special and it was under $10. The chicken's crispy, but more on the greasy side. The Tapatio hot sauce does make a huge difference (at least for me). And I poured it on. It was a full meal and the price was good for today's times. I'm still a fan of the MOJO POTATOES. They're really crisp and exactly what I remember them to be like when I was a still child a bajillion years ago. Speaking of a long time ago, Shakey's was founded in 1954 and it was the first pizza restaurant chain in the US. How do you like them facts, Domino's, Pizza Hut, Papa Johns, and Little Caesars?! Also, the franchise got its name from one of the co-owner's, Sherwood "Shakey" Johnson and Ed Plummer. Parents have an option to sip on a cold draught/draft brew if they like. And the Arcade room here is small, but mighty. The machines are new and you can easily spend an Alexander Hamilton on a few rounds of games before your meal arrives. Overall, it was a memorable lunch. Perhaps not because of what we ate, but the quality time spent here with my kid, and for being treated like a valued patron and being served like a guest they'd want to have return again. We had a birthday party of 35 (all you can eat lunch special....soooo much easier!) for my grandson and found out that Juan who was the manager of the Hollywood Shakey's (no longer there), where I'd had many B-Day parties for my kids, is now the Manager at the Glendale Shakey's (Wow!! What a great catch Glendale!!). As usual, he made sure our party went smoothly. The food (C'mon! Mojos fried chicken generous topping pizzas.....Winna! Winna!Winna! Chicken Dinna! No! Seriously!!) The service staff was on point! They stopped by often to clear plates and ask if we needed anything (That goes a long way in my book!). Will definitely be doing this again! The food is obviously fresh. The pizza is pretty good, my personalized Grilled chicken & mushrooms pizza w/ Alfredo sauce is pretty freaking good. The cheese was actually really gooey. This is the best Shakeys location! We live down the street from the Burbank location, but choose to drive to Glendale. The food at this location is consistently delicious. Always hot and thoroughly cooked. They give you lots of toppings and the mojos are cut thick! The salad bar is always clean and is filled with fresh ingredients. The service is friendly and your food doesn't take forever to come out. The workers hustle in the back and are always cleaning the tables so people can find a seat. This is a GREAT, clean Shakey's location with really nice staff. I don't typically write reviews for chain restaurants, but love to do it when the location is above and beyond excellent which this one was!! The buffet for bunch o' lunch was constantly being refilled and all the food was piping hot and fresh. My favorite is the pepperoni pizza here and they kept those pizza pies coming! I feel like some Shakey's locations can be run down/a lil sad, but this one was really clean, well-maintained, and nice!! What really blew me away here though was the customer service and kind staff members. Juan the manager was the first to greet me and he was so wonderfully friendly. He even asked me what my favorite pizza was to make sure it was out there hot and fresh at the buffet! That's customer service, baby!!! Juan is number one (number Juan!). Jeremy was also really nice and funny and helped me pick out a takeout item that best suited what I was looking for (bro, you rock). The other staff member named Juan (Juan #2!) was super friendly and came by to ask if I was enjoying my food and whether he could get me a fresh plate to go back to the buffet with. Everyone here was just soooooo nice that it really made me enjoy my experience here even more. With so many pizza options out there today, it's heartwarming to see a classic institution still alive and thriving. As a kid I've gone to so many shakeys for sports team meetups and appreciation awards and now it's really nice to have my little guy and his little league team go too! I had the pleasure of working with the GM Juan and he was super nice and accommodating to our lively group of 10 energetic kiddos plus 25 families. The server also name Juan was very attentive and checked on us often for refills etc. the food speaks for itself and it's homey, like it hasn't changed ever. I'm writing this as I reheat my leftover pizza. While I don't frequent Shakey's as much as I used to for Bunch a Lunch, we do come every so often. After getting over the initial sticker shock, because you know, INFLATION.. you are greeted by some of the friendliest and most helpful staff in town. I don't say this lightly because we know how this next generation is shaping up, and these kids are genuinely sweet and polite, and not complete air heads. The food is great. My favorite thing is of course their famous mojo potatoes. Fried chicken can rival any fast food chicken joint and win. The pizza is one of my son's favorites. We usually get 2 pizzas - one cheese and one Shakey's Special, both on their thin crust. They have a small arcade to keep the kids occupied enough so that you can enjoy the game on one of their many televisions, including the giant ones in the main dining room. There is plenty of parking in the shared lot. The restaurant is clean and the wait staff is very good about coming around and picking up dirty dishes. I highly recommend coming for their Bunch a Lunch lunch buffet. You can have a little bit of everything, and the food makes a pretty quick turn around so everything is fresh. read more

We have a reservation for 50 people on December 26, 2025, at 11:00 am, as I was paying the manager in the Glendale area Juan was very rude to me and my sister, I told him how many people we had and not everyone showed up because it was raining, he said he just needed the unused plates, so as I handed him the plates, he said there were 10 plates, so he said he was going to charges me for 40 plates and 40 drinks, because, he gave us 50 plates, but as the staff was coming and getting the used plates , our guests was using the other plates, and it was a buffet , then Juan asked me how many children under 10, as I was counting he rudely interrupted and yelled " Do you understand English " , I told him yes, I'm a teacher, so I was being professional and didn't go to his level and paid the $767,64, we will never go to that Glendale location again for people like him, no respect. read more

We just held our third AYSO team party here yesterday and I feel it's time I chimed in on how great this location is to hold a large meetup with kids ranging 8-13 and their families. I love this location in particular. They have a back room that can easily seat 80 people from side to side, but you can also book half of it for smaller parties and you'll haver a semi-private place to celebrate. The service here is exceptional! Booking is as easy a quick call, and the staff are ready to help you with anything you may need to make the party a success. The food pleases young and old. The mojo potatoes are addictive, and all of the kiddos and families enjoy the pizza and chicken. A game room keeps the young entertained while cheap pitchers of beer in ice cold cups keep the conversations flowing with the parents. Shakey's is an American take on a British pub where locals gather young and old for good times. We had reservations in Glendale for a Bunch of Lunch Buffet, coming from the funeral at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills. My sister went to pay and told the count of the adults and kids and explain that not all of them showed up, because of the rainfall. The Manager Juan did not agree asked, 'Do you understand English?' in a dismissive tone, which felt rude, disrespectful and unwelcoming. I hope the business promotes more patience and courtesy toward all customers. And when I reserved the date and time the cashier told me we can only stay from 11am to 1pm, because Fridays are always busy and I have to speak Juan.
