I always drive by Shaky Alibi on my way to work and have been wanting to try a waffle for quite some time. This morning, I finally got my chance and I am so happy I stopped in. I got the plain ol' liege waffle and it was delicious! It was the perfect amount of sweetness and a size that wasn't overwhelming. The coffee was wonderful too. my visit to Shaky Alibi was incredible. i've been craving to go back just for the Speculoos waffles! the decor is modern, and very hip. i thoroughly enjoyed the service here -- genuinely friendly and attentive. it also makes me happy that all their teas are loose-leaf, but that's just my own quirkiness. definitely will be paying the Shaky another visit, next time i'm on the west coast. read more

Sea salt caramel iced latte was bomb and I made a waffle with strawberries and bananas, whipped cream and chocolate hazelnut spread which was sooo delicious!!! Inside the waffle are sugar crystals which make it taste that much better! read more

The waffles here are delicious. We tried the peanut butter special and the double waffle w vanilla ice cream, which by the way completely melted in less than 3 minutes. It must have been because of the room temperature and/ or the fact that it's pressed against two somewhat warm waffles.... I still enjoyed it. The staff was really friendly too. read more

Decadent, unique waffles! Just be prepared for smaller portions and therefore a pricier bill. But this is the place for a breakfast/brunch treat every now and then. We both had one of the savory waffles with meat and cheese, and we loved them! I came a little hungrier than I should have, so this is not a good choice for a big meal. These waffles are just like the ones that you would get in Belgium (size, taste and smell). My waffle was excellent and it was caramelized and they reminded me of the waffles I had at the train station in Belgium. Keep in mind that the waffles are made to order so it will take a little time and they currently only have one waffle machine. The owners were super nice/friendly and they kept checking on me throughout my stay. I loved the cafe au lait that was made for me. I was told that they use high end milk (which you can taste the difference-this isn't Starbucks). The artwork was super cool and most of the work is done by a local artist. There is free parking on Martel (resident parking). I drove all the way from Venice beach just to try the waffles. It's a must! read more

My girlfriends and I were in LA and this place came highly recommended. We were absolutely not disappointed. In fact, we went twice in the 5 days that we were in LA. There were three of us, so we ordered both sweet and savory waffles, and both were to die for. Deliciously crunchy on the outside and soft decadent on the inside. Their hot sauce compliments the savory waffle very well also. The drinks are a must as well. Yes, we are from Nebraska, but we've dined all over the country and we know good food when we are lucky enough to encounter it. Keep up the great work at the Shaky Alibi! read more

My only issues: there is rarely enough seating (good luck coming in with a group bigger than four) and the credit card system doesn't allow you to add tip to the card, so you have to tip in cash, which I don't always have on me. read more

I was looking for a place to get some coffee and breakfast this morning when I passed Shaky Alibi and decided to give it a try. I started with some coffee, which is a custom blend of the shop's, and was full of flavor without being too exotic. Think a good strong cup of joe, not an African imported blend with notes of Saharan bee sting. I moved on to a waffle and my indecision did me a favor. Lo and behold the owner (RJ) was my waiter and when I asked about the Belgian spreads let me sample the graham cracker Succulous spread (should be named "succulent" in my opinion), both the crunchy and creamy variety. I've been going here for more than a year. In LA, it's one of my favorite coffee spots (I'm a coffee snob that steers clear of any starbucks/coffeebean/whatever). They make their coffee by the cup and it is truly excellent. They offer agave syrup and stevia as sweeteners (be still, my beating heart) and I always take advantage of the belgium waffle samples they have near the register. I decided to ask one of the cashiers one day why they don't offer some sort of buy 10 drinks get one free stamp card deal, to which he replied that the coffee was cheap enough already. Ok...? Omg sooo good! This is basically a review of the turkey and Swiss waffle sandwich. It's the first thing I ever ordered here....and I was completely hooked. I order it every time I eat here. Decided to try it out when on a self designated lunch break from making pottery at Bitter Root Pottery down the street. My husband had wanted to take me here once but I though "waffles for lunch...no thank you", but I was alone so I said "diet be damned!" And I'm so glad I did, I love everything about this place, it's in a great area. I can walk to it from my apartment or if I'm doing art at BRP. There's cute outside seating for people watching; or nice inside seating at the window, bar, and throughout the restaurant. Like I said before, the savory Waffle sandwich is the only entree I've had so far. But it's killer and I LOVE it! The turkey and perfectly melted cheese pair wonderfully with the sweet waffle dusted with powdered sugar. And to drive it over the top...dip it in hot sauce at your leisure.... Sooooo good yum yummy! They also have an array of teas and coffee drinks. If it's spring or summer try the lavender lemonade! Or any other seasonal drink. The portions seem small at first but it's very filling...and who knows how many calories are in that sandwich? I don't want to know btw. Ignorance is truly bliss in this situation. read more

We make stops at Shaky Alibi on the regular, just for their soy pistachio latte. Unfortunately, it wasn't "in season" at the moment, but we happily sipped on a pumpkin spiced latte instead and looked over their waffle menu. There's a choice of sweet or savory, but we couldn't pass up "The Elvis:" a waffle topped with peanut butter, crumbled bacon, bananas and drizzled with honey. I love this place, i go atleast 3-4 times a week. I usually only get coffee, and the occasional Orange juice and some sort of pastry. Their Raspberry cookie is to DIE for. It is so fresh, and so yummy! I always get the vanilla latte with almond milk. Service is pretty friendly. I have only tried samples of their waffles, seems to be really good. Their cappuccino is hands down my favorite of the many coffee places I've been, better than balconi in west LA, which is my favorite so far. Although balconi is more consistent in the quality of all their drinks and every cup. At shaky alibi i like most of their baristas except for a couple that consistently don't make as good cappuccinos. They add a BIG scoop of ice cream to their waffles, very sweet and glorious if you got a real sweet tooth. I don't though so it's not my thing. I also love their hot chocolate and mocha. read more

Favorite waffle place to date. The speculous (sweet) & the sausage Gouda (savory) are my fav. I like going with at least one other person so we can order both and split it for the perfect mix & portion. At first the waffles look smallish but man don't be deceived. I tried to eat more than one one time and that was a mistake ha ha. Each one Is so filling. Manager speaks with so much passion and heart about his restaurant and his food and that in and of itself is inspiring. Only minus a star because the waffles are a LITTLE too small for the price, as was the latte. This is compared to other similar restaurants. However, the waffles are not excessive like some places are, and are excellent in taste and variety. The savory and sweet are great. If my wife and I go back, we'll share one of each. Granted, I am a sucker for a sweet and savory combo, but the caramelized outside of the thick chewy waffle and the salty ham and rich cheese was AMAZING!!!!!! Delicious and fun. All the complaints about the slow service are from people that probably should go to a diner. Everything is made to order so it's not going to be fast food. We found the service VERY attentive. The complaints about the microwave are also silly and come from the eighties when "nuking" food meant ruining it because no one knew how to use the technology properly.
