Long story short, I needed to find a coffeehouse that was open late on a Sunday as I was driving down to see a concert. A quick look on Yelp led me to this place. Quite the interesting coffeehouse. It is a 'sex positive' place. Not exactly sure what that means, but they seem to support people regardless of sexuality. The place itself was nice. The inside was cozy. They have a library which you can check books out. There is a decent sized food menu. There are baked goods. They have coffee, naturally. The tables were unique and are definitely NSFW, so be careful while scrolling through the photos. I ordered my usual Iced Caramel Latte, sat down and chilled until they brought it out to me. While it wasn't the best coffee I had (it was mostly espresso and milk without much caramel flavor), I can fully support a place like this. It was busy for it being a late Sunday afternoon and the crowd seemed friendly. Staff was equally friendly. I came here on my lunch break for a light lunch, and this southwest chicken salad called "Reverse Cowgirl " hit the spot. I also got the bottomless iced tea with it. The salad uses butter salad, which is light and refreshing. Crisp but not as crisp as iceberg lettuce. The chicken on top is served hot, which is really comforting with the chips corn and tomatoes. The sauce is a Chipotle ranch, but it's a thin sauce, so you can easily just add a little and spread it around without it being overpowering. This business is by a park on a residential street in soulard/benton park, so it feels nice parking and walking in. The building is a classic brick walls and wood floors and trim st louis style home. I asked if they roasted their own beans, but they do not. They only bring in beans from local roasters to use. The food came out quick, and I was able to drive here, eat, and back to work within 30 minutes while still feeling like i had that taking a break from the workplace experience. read more

An amazing community resource that I want to stick around forever. Shameless Grounds is basically a coffee shop and cocktail bar built "into" a sexuality/alternative relationship/kink library. If you're not into kink, they have a wide selection of sexuality/ethical non-monogamy books that might be interesting to see - even if that's not your cup of tea. We just came here for coffee. We had a flight, and we bought even more to-go. NOTES: -NOT KID FRIENDLY. This coffeeshop is focused on alternative sexualities; there's nothing really explicit (aside from plain ol' nudity), but I think a lot of parents would be uncomfortable having kids in here. The establishment itself requires anyone under 18 to have a guardian with them. -You can't check out books on your first visit AND you need to be local to the area. Expect to come back another time if you want to check anything out. -They offer cocktails as well. PROS: -THEY HAVE COFFEE FLIGHTS. I died and went to heaven. Coffee flights are probably my favorite thing in the world, and they have multiple to choose from. I wish I could have had them all while I was here, but I would have died of a caffeine overdose then. -Their coffee was fantastic too! I can't find their iced latte flavors on their online website to give you the names, but they have a wide menu of "flavored lattes" like you'd expect at most coffee shops. They had a coconut and lavender one that were both fantastic in the flights! -There's a "wheel of indecision" - a bit niche, but it was cute that you could spin a wheel and instantly arrive at a drink to have. -Looking through all of the library books is so much fun while waiting for your drinks. It's like a built in thing to do that isn't your cell phone. -Someone who stocks the library definitely has a thing for vampires. A surprising number of vampire books and some inspiration for new ones I want to read! -You can purchase a few limited kink restraints and accessories here if you'd like. They look locally-made. -The ambiance here is pretty cool. They have dolls set up in kink predicaments, and they have tons of art/posters on the wall about sexuality and kink. It's a very sex-positive space. CONS: -Staff seemed a little standoff-ish until they realized we weren't looky-loos. It's probably one of the least friendly welcomes I've ever had in a coffee shop before. -Due to theft, all of the kink books aren't available on the library shelves; you have to sort through a binder and ask to see them. I wasn't about to ask staff to bring out books for me just so I could casually peruse them, so I was a bit sad about that. read more

The Jack Yo' Lantern puts any other Pumpkin Spiced Latte to shame and is my absolute favorite coffee beverage in St. Louis. I was hoping to like this coffee shop more from all of the pictures I saw and the reviews I was reading. It is located a little farther than I'm used to going for coffee so it's taken me a while to get there. I liked the interior, very bright and warm and of course, I appreciated all the little touches. Atmosphere matters a lot. Their back patio was also very spacious and conveniently set up for late night gigs, I'm sure it'd be fun to be there at night. I wanted to like it but there were too many things standing in my way. I ordered the hummus platter, which was fine. Nothing special. A bunch of vegetables with okay hummus for an okay price. The pastries did not look appetizing wrapped in plastic. I ordered an iced latte and the shot was very bitter. The drip coffee was even worse. Very burnt. And the service was just OK. I love coming here but rarely is it my first thought. The coffee is nothing special, but it's not all about the coffee at Shameless Grounds. The entire ambiance is something that the rest of St. Louis just has not captured yet. A safe space for everything sexual, the vibe is just one of welcomeness. And before you ask, children are not allowed here. If you are close minded, this may be too much for you as well. The decor is everything sexual. There are walls of books from eroticism to self-help, and the tables are plastered with women and men in all sorts of sexualised poses from magazines over the years. There does not seem to be any taboo, and it makes the place an overall treat to visit. On top of that, the staff is just pleasant to a fault. You order at the back, but they bring it out to you when it's reading, which is usually quick. I have heard some grumblings about the food, but I have never had a bad meal here, but I do not always eat here so I may just be lucky. On top of that, they have alcohol. I come here to write papers and the choice between coffee, and a good beer is always a nice problem to have. One to keep me awake, one to keep the words flowing. It's not an expansive bar, but it is just enough to spice up a coffee or just have a good pint. Overall I do like this coffee shop. It's not perfect, but that doesn't mean it's not worth a visit. I will keep coming back here because every time I visit, I am reminded of why I keep coming back. It was pretty "meh." I got the LGBTQ and I have no idea who invented it but it just tasted like something you make drunk or with leftovers. The cheese sauce tasted like it can from a can/jar. My fellow diners weren't very enthused about food either. The coffee was fine, nothing special. I imagine the sex-positive theme of the coffee shop is a big pull to why people come out. They believe "that the appropriate uses of sex extend beyond reproduction." (from their website). That being said this may not be the best place for someone that is may find naked pictures of males and females offensive or inappropriate. There is what I feel as a normal sized menu for the coffee shop. I ended up getting the Ample Breast, and my wife ended up with the Chauvinist Pig. I wasn't a huge fan of either of the sandwiches unfortunately. I thought they were decent, but was expecting a little more of a wow factor. I guess unique names like that it set my expectations high. I am not a coffeehouse person at all, but I will make an exception for Shameless. Shameless is just sexy. I was never exposed to the previous location so all I know is the 'new' Benton Park location. It is a cozy place to roll up to, have a cup of whatever suits you, and relax. I can't speak much for the main interior since I can't seem to pull myself out of the patio area. However just by glancing, it looks very cozy and comfy inside. I am sure I will get plenty of exposure once it cools off in a few months. I am in the process of sampling through their goods and so far - everything has been excellent. Their bakery items are simply delicious. I love the cranberry pecan scone. The wife sampled the vegetarian sandwich (Farmer's Daughter), and it was delicious as well. The staff are super, super friendly and chill. The ambiance is nice. It's just a good place to go hang out whether it be alone or with friends. They also allow dogs on the patio, which is a big plus in my book.
