I am extremely disappointed! I usually love the food from Shan. But I am never ordering from there again. I ordered Naan and Mutter Paneer yesterday and got a plastic lid of a small container inside the Mutter Paneer's container. Looks like the plastic lid fell into it while the food was being cooked. Halal Meat is served here per signs on Restaurant. Have ordered take out from here several times and almost every time they are late. Most recently used Door Dash and after got email confirmation that the food was ready for pick up, I still had to wait almost 30 minutes to get my food. Very slow service. DO NOT GO here if you know what Indian/Pakistani food tastes like. The food served here is no where close to the actual Indian or Pakistani food. We went there today and order several dishes for our group (both veg and non veg). Here are the comments that the group had: Baigan Bharta : Very bland and full of cream. No where close to what you expect from a bharta. Paneer Tikka: Would you believe if I said that they screwed up on this simple dish too. Very bland and tasteless. Chicken Boti Kebab: I am sure the chicken was under-cooked. Chicken Jalfrazi: I have no clue on what to say about this. Completely tasteless. Chicken Curry: Need I repeat myself now, the pattern should be clear by now :) Bland again Naan: Okay but nothing special Tandoori Roti: Man, extremely hard rotis. Felt like chewing leather (Yuck!!) Service was poor too - they gave the curries well before they had the naans/rotis ready. By the time the breads were served - the curries were already cold. My husband and I tried Shan for the first time tonight and were pleasantly surprised! The food was flavorful and fresh and came in ample portions, especially considering the low prices! I ordered a deliciously spicy chicken biryani, and my husband had chicken tikka masala, and we were very satisfied after splitting both dishes! We appreciated the convenience of the self-serve station with water (so I could refill as often as I needed to because of how spicy the chicken biryani was!), extra napkins, silverware, extra plates, etc. The self-serve station also has complimentary hot Darjeeling milk tea and a sugar container, which I found to be a very special touch! Don't overlook the free hot tea when you eat here! The service was fast and courteous, and the community of patrons was very nice--there was a decent number of patrons, but it wasn't loud or pushy inside. The ambiance does have the feel of a diner, but it's very clean, pleasant, and well-lit; plus, I found it fitting with the price-point, the speed, and the counter service style. read more

This might be the most bland Indian food I've ever had.. on top of that it didn't come with rice or naan.

I came here with a coworker and the the food was delicious the first time. I came back with my family and it was horrible this time. I don't know if they had a different chef or what. I ordered tandoori chicken, chicken tiki masala, curry goat, rice, plain naan and mango lassis. The first time everything was cooked to perfection, except the naan was a little dry. The second time, the naan was burnt, the tandoori chicken was burnt and dry, the chicken tiki masala wasn't flavorful. I would have given this place a 4 star rating the first time and 1 Star the 2nd time. That's how I ended up at 2 stars. Unfortunately, I won't be back. read more

I echo the review by Ashish - 'DO NOT GO here if you know what Indian/Pakistani food tastes like...' I ordered chicken biryani, chicken leg and breast tandoori. Chicken leg tandoori chicken was better among the three (not that it was good) but it had a prominent sour/bitter taste . The chicken biryani was a disaster, I don't know what kind of rice they used, but it certainly wasn't basmati and it tasted like Mexican rice and the quality was bad. Was craving for some Indian food and decided to stop by this place. There is ample parking in the lot so no worries about that. We ordered the paneer tikka wrap and it was delicious! The paneer was super moist and flavourful and the naan that it was wrapped in was soft and tasty. The mint chutney served along with the wrap was delicious too. Stopped by today as I guess they are now open and I wanted something different from the normal Panera, Chipotle, Pizza that my company is always bringing in. The place was packed and everything looked super good. They sell everything individually - you walk up and order with a large menu displayed overhead. I got the chicken tikka to go with naan bread. I waited approx 5 minutes and they handed me a bag full of goodies. The chicken tikka is good - a nice amount of spice, not too much that it's not enjoyable and your mouth is on fire but good enough. Their seemed to be a small amount of chicken in the serving so that was a little disappointing. The naan bread was on point! super yummy, fluffy, and complimented the chicken. I'm not a picky eater, and I rarely give negative reviews, but I feel like I have to for Shan Restaurant. My partner and I ordered the chicken korma and the lamb curry, along with rice and naan. Here was my experience: Pros: - Food was ready super fast (this was a late dinner) - Portion sizes for main dishes were reasonable, while rice/naan were large - The curry sauce for the lamb was fairly tasty - Naan was good - The rice was seasoned and tasted great Cons: - My chicken was at least 40% gristle. I don't even understand how you cram this much gristle in so little space - The korma curry was the worst I've ever had. It just tasted like vinegar, and seemed to be lacking any other spices. I've had other kormas that were delicious - The lamb was extra bony too Other reviewers have mentioned specific dishes they really like. Best Paneer in the bay area! I tried so many restaurants in the bay area but never had such a delicious Achaar paneer in 5 years. It goes so well with Aloo Naan. They also serve complimentary mint chutney and onion salad which enhance the overall taste of the food. read more

Great chicken seekh kebabs and roti as well as garlic naans, clean and open super late (10:30 weekdays and 11 weekends). The paneer roll was ok- paneer was not too tasty but the ample chutney and onions with chili, masala and lemon which you take on the side make it tastier. I have not had many other vegetarian dishes here but would try to come back to try the palak or any of their curry dishes. Overall, a good, reasonable option located in a complex where there's many other food options as well. read more

We tried their chicken biryani last night, and I'm actually happy to say that we really liked it. I've tried many "good" restaurants that specialize in biryani and ended up not liking those. They were either too spicy, too greasy or their chicken was gross and not tender at all. Theirs, I did like. I enjoyed the flavor and the very tender and well-seasoned/marinated chicken. My only issue was the bones in there. It's not boneless chicken so you end up digging in trying to remove the bones, but otherwise I'd say it was good! read more

The review for this place is overdue. I've been here twice in the last year and I found the place to be ok. Both times I had the paneer masala and that wasn't too bad. As a second dish, we once tried the malai kofta - which wasn't bad either - and the dal makhani - now this one was a disappointment. The dal makhani lacked flavor and the chutney is the only thing that made it possible to eat. A big negative - the naans. They are pretty lame. The garlic naan was also a disappointment. Overall, I think in the future I'd pick up the curries, but avoid the naans. read more
