    Hot dog basket
    Charlie F.

First visit in some time and the first after the restaurant can operate at full capacity. I went at lunchtime soon after it opened. The counter person was polite and attentive. A sign on the wall offered a Hot Dog Basket as a limited-time offer, so I chose that. The hot dog was topped with slaw and barbecue. This was a wonderful and slightly messy, delicious choice! For my side, I went with macaroni and cheese. With tax, this was $6.43, Delicious, filling, a good value, and fast service. I was impressed.

I used to come to Shane's all the time when I lived closer but I was in the area and decided to give it another run I wasn't really happy this time. I looked at the website before I came because I wanted to order the lunch tenders and when I got there a little after 3 I was told it was too late to order but it did not indicate what time we could order it anywhere on the menu. Then after just getting the regular tenders when they came out they were so small looks like a kids tender meal. And they barely gave me fries I remember they used to give a lot more and the tenders were bigger. The customer service was just fine though.

    $21 combination with 2 drinks.

We ordered one combination plater and a side of Mac n cheese. $ 21.00. Oh yes 2 drinks. Portions were small. The . 3 Ribs were fall off the bone. The pulled pork portion was small but moist. Came with 2 chicken tenders fried or grilled not smoked or bbq. Couldn't substitute any thing. Toast buttered but toasted on one side only. Sides: Mac n cheese was mushy. Beans were can like and slaw was very milky wet lacking much flavor. At least the food was warm Would not take someone here. Will not come again. Still looking for great BBQ IN NC

    Mini sized Chicken Wings

Do not order the chicken wings. This place has been going downhill for some time now. I ordered smoked chicken wings, ended up with fried ones but that's not the main issue. The wings are the mini sized. As if as soon as baby chicks were hatched, they were slaughtered and sold to Shane's. A few years ago this place had some of the best wings but now it's the absolute worst. A waste of my lunch money, you get 1 star SIR!

    Half rack of ribs

We noticed this place a while back when we visited Coldstone, next door to it. They were advertising the sale of Blue Line shirts, which is in support of police. It is rare to see any businesses openly police nowadays and that surprised us (in a good way). Employee stated they donate proceeds of shirt sales to police and military (I guess they sell military support shirts as well). We very much appreciated this message and promised ourselves we would be back to try the food. Skip to today. Not busy (it wasn't busy before either). Not loud - normal level music and tvs with very low volume. Awesome food! Got the half rack of ribs with mac 'n cheese and sweet potatoes fries. Ribs were amazing! Sweet potatoes fries were bangin! I cannot praise them enough. Hubs got the Shaniac burger (slaw, pulled pork, beef patty, pickles, bbq sauce). He loved it, said it was a lot more filling than it looked. Slaw was liquidy but tasty. Was not impressed with the mac 'n cheese - average, nothing to write home about. Same with the peach cobbler - ok, not great (Hubs said should be sweeter and less mushy). Clearly their strength is the main dishes. They were still selling Blue Line Shirts with their own restaurant info on them as well (nice promo for them I guess). They also sell their own BBQ sauces. Please support this great local place, as they support our law enforcement and military!! Another visit -- busier this time. Great service, great food. Wished they had included ranch with my wings, guess you have to ask.

Supposedly 1.5 lbs of BBQ. Lol!

I frequent this location often but today was the worst service. I ordered the BBQ family pack which should've had 1.5lbs of BBQ. It did not. So when I called back to the restaurant they said I would need to bring the entire meal back. I told them I was not coming back and manager said he would not issue a store credit. I didn't even ask for my money back. This was the worst interaction from I business I have received. I will be not be back. Have them measure/weigh your food before you leave. Sounds like business is bad and they are cutting orders. I guess I'll need to go pick up another dinner $40 down the drain.

Four stars for the ribs! Three for the BBQ Pork. Two for the sides. One for the tea! First and only experience so far was a weeknight. Husband had been before and wanted the Smoked Chicken Salad, which he really liked again. He likes the smoky flavor of the chicken which is coated in mayo and served on buttered Texas Toast. If all that wasn't bad enough for him, he got fries to go with it. Bad for him or not, he did like it! Then again, I sure as heck couldn't say anything about his lack of healthy eating when I got the Pick 2 with ribs, bbq pork, mac n cheese and green beans, with a slice of Texas Toast. You pay at the counter, get a number on a skewer, get your own drink, then sit down and wait. They have booths and tables. We chose a booth. Warning: maybe the worst tea I've ever tried! I'm an unsweetened tea gal, but appreciate a little added flavor (usually lemon). When I spotted peach tea, I added a few squirts to my unsweetened tea. YUCK. It was beyond sweet. I couldn't drink it. Poured it out, got plain unsweetened tea and that was mildly yuck. Food: Took awhile...this is definitely not fast food! It's also a LOT of food, and let's face it, beyond unhealthy. This style of cooking is for veggie-haters. Broad Green Beans are cooked to death in a greasy broth until they have no flavor. TIP: Add some of their cayenne sauce to make it edible). Mac and Cheese is tasteless mush. TIP: Add some of their mustard bbq sauce...it makes it edible!) Saving grace: the RIBS...meaty, smoky...finger-lickin' good! BBQ Pork...plentiful, not too fatty...better with added sauce. Sauces: Love the CHOICES! Spicy one was not spicy though. Faves for me were the mustard one and the honey bbq. Even the cayenne sauce was not spicy. Quantity: Large! I had dinner from my Pick 2 with 2 sides, ate more for lunch, and still have another meal left. (For $13.99). The question at this point is, do I even want the rest of the leftovers (now that the ribs are gone?)

Can't go wrong with the full rack

I understand as if you aren't seated when they open, you can expect a 90-minute to two-hour wait. I was hoping to get the Chicken Pot Pie this time and thought my prior visit was just off. I was thrilled that most of the menu was available. They were just out of the banana pudding. So I got to try the pecan wings I read about with the white sauce. It was so good. Then I got the chicken pot pie and biscuits. The pot pie had old biscuits for the topping, but the creamy mixture with large chunks of chicken was delicious. My biscuits came with honey and were served warm. I left with a slice of the chocolate-caramel-coconut cake, a side salad without onions, and a fried boneless thigh. The salad was made correctly, and the dressing was included. The salad was full of veggies, and the cake was rich and moist. Service was friendly and as soon as I finished my iced tea, another appeared. My wings were brought out first and it was a while for the rest of the meal as the restaurant was full. But they didn't rush me at all. I actually liked the space between the dishes, as I might not have been able to eat it all otherwise. I couldn't finish both biscuits and was even provided a container for the honey. I am going to miss Beasley's, but I'm glad I got a positive experience to remember the restaurant.

It's been an interesting journey--because while I absolutely respect the tradition, my palate has definitely evolved over the years toward lighter, more elevated, visually beautiful food. That said, sometimes you just have to lean in and experience the classics. Tupelo Honey had been on my list for a while, so during a recent work trip to Raleigh-Durham, I decided to check it off. The location is in a very nice, upscale area--one of those shopping districts where, if you see a Whole Foods nearby, you know the neighborhood is going to be polished, safe, and easy to navigate. Parking was simple in a lot across the street, and since I had a reservation, I was seated quickly on the patio, which was lovely and comfortable. For starters, I ordered the "biscuits for a cause," which is a nice touch knowing the proceeds support employee relief and development funds. They were warm and classic Southern biscuits--exactly what you'd expect. For my entrée, I went with the honey-dusted fried chicken (dark meat), a true Southern staple. It was well prepared, flavorful, and satisfying, especially if you're in the mood for something hearty and traditional. I also tried a cocktail called "The Debutante," which was pleasant and refreshing, and finished the meal with the butter pecan cheesecake for dessert. Overall, the meal was good--solid, reliable Southern comfort food--but if I'm being completely honest, it wasn't particularly memorable for me. I was traveling for work and dining on a per diem, so it checked the box for a dependable dinner in a convenient location. As a larger regional chain, it feels a bit like a rite of passage when you're spending time in the Southeast--something you try once to understand the landscape. Bottom line: Tupelo Honey delivers classic Southern comfort food in a polished, accessible setting. Service was smooth, the patio was pleasant, and everything was executed well. For me personally, it was a good experience--but not one I'd necessarily go out of my way to repeat. Still, as I continue eating my way through the Carolinas and beyond, I'm glad I gave it a try.

I usually like mustard based sauces, but theirs was little more peppery than I wanted Then, per the bartender's recommendation, I ordered the brisket melt sandwich, and it was the undisputed highlight of the meal Muenster cheese, thinly sliced white onion, pickle chips, and a good load of horseradish sauce. The brisket had an amazing flavor, and all the other toppings came together beautifully. But that Union bakery bun is just another level. It's like brioche, it was so soft, but somehow a little more substantial. For my side dish, I went with the sweet potatoes with goat cheese, pepitas, and agave. This was just ok. For me, the potatoes could have been cooked longer, a little more crispness would have really helped. I did think the goat cheese was a unique flavor with a milder ingredient like a sweet potato, but it did work with the other ingredients pretty well. This is one of those spaces that does half the work before the food even hits the table. It used to…read morebe an old-school diner, and a lot of that DNA is still there. The bones feel nostalgic, but the overall vibe is current and lively. It's the kind of place that feels familiar but still cool. Service Service is where things really clicked. Our server knew the menu inside out and guided us through it with confidence. Every recommendation landed. It also felt like one of those menus where it would be hard to order poorly. The Food The menu leans comfort food with a modern edge, and it's done really well across the board. We started with a Caesar salad with dill pickle dressing, which sounds like it shouldn't work but absolutely does. Bright, fresh, and just different enough to be interesting without trying too hard. The beet salad was also excellent, clean flavors and well balanced. Then came the pimento cheese with fried crackers. This might have been the sleeper hit. The crackers are dangerously good. Simple idea, executed perfectly, and hard to stop eating. For mains, the fried chicken was solid but didn't stand out the same way the starters did. The short rib pot pie, on the other hand, was exactly what you want from a dish like that. Rich, flaky, and deeply comforting. Overall Poole's is the kind of place where everything feels considered, from the space to the service to the food. It's approachable, well executed, and very easy to enjoy.

Our second visit for dinner at Poole's since relocating to downtown Raleigh last year. We were just…read moreas impressed on this recent visit as we were a few months ago. We opted for a reservation at the bar, and we enjoyed excellent service from Brittany and Kylie. They were attentive and very detailed with the excellent service that we have found out is the norm in every one of Ashley Christensen's restaurants. Our starter of roasted beets had an incredible blend of buttermilk blue cheese with white balsamic thyme, pickled pumpkin, and Marcona almonds. So yummy. Then my husband and I shared the Ricotta Gnocchi that we agree is the BEST gnocchi we have ever had the privilege of eating. So light in spite of a duck bolognese being the sauce. Fried rosemary sparked my home chef mind for future meals! We also shared the Brussels sprout upon Brittany's recommendation. One of the most unique preparations on Brussels sprouts ever with oyster mushrooms and a sherry cream sauce. We typically pass on dessert, but the description of their Pear Tart Tatin coupled with Kylie's verbal description hooked us and we were thrilled to enjoy every bite of the hazelnut praline ice cream that is part of this beautiful dessert.
