Worst Chinese food in Olney. It tastes like crap meat or something. It's always overcooked and bland flavor. The soup is terrible. Go to Hunan Delight or drive to Rockville for much better Chinese fare. The owners and workers are rude. They didn't let me use my credit card for takeout because I had a $9 order not $10... They don't have an ATM either. Made me drive to one... All to get my cold overcooked meal. Yuck read more

Last time I ordered delivery June of 2014, the scallops tasted spoiled..I called back and asked for a refund..they refused..dumb... although I had been a regular customer for 5 years, I give them no more of my money. I've only been there twice now and found the food very tasty and well prepared. It is also very well priced. We just moved to Olney and I was hoping to find a reliable source of Chinese food and I hope we have. Don't go there for the customer service, the lady can seem quite brusque but just sounds abrupt, it's just her way of talking. We got talking while I waited for my food and I could see that a lot of her seeming "rudeness" isn't. The food was decent when it was super hot and fresh, but does not reheat well. The hot and sour soup was Very consistent with jello, and kinda reminded me alpo. The rice was good. General tso chicken was pretty good when piping hot but did not reheat well, more jello... when I called to order over the phone the last asked for my card number like she didn't think I would come to get it... so I paid cash. Kinda let down but oh well. One order of chicken and soup gets you a side of rice for 14.95. What I ordered was easily enough to feed 2-3 people read more

Dissapointed.but the food was always good in past - I have been ordering delivery from Shang Hai for years and always tipped very well, knowing myself to be on the outer bounds. Anyway, I called in today and was put on hold, only to be told I am too far. :( In past I always liked their food and never had any problems as I see in some of the other reviews. I really appreciated I could order anything without meat and it was always tasty. But if they can do a long time customer like that, I guess they must be under new management or something. Weird, the lady who always answered the phone before knew me by my voice and was always terrific. I guess I wont be ordering there anymore. This is a great restaurant, i always come here for their orange chicken and fried rice. Staff is also great! I recommend this place!

I pass this place everyday coming and going to work. I've always loved Chinese but when you find one you like you tend to stick with them. It took me about a year and I finally went ahead and ordered from them. While I think the prices may be a bit high, you do get a lot of food and so dinner and lunch for at least a couple of days. On 9/13/2010 I wrote a review of this restaurant. I am here to amend that review. After 3 years of getting excellent food and service, I was shocked when the person I usually spoke to, Wei, informed me that their driver did not speak English and would not be able to deliver my order this evening. Wei went on to tell me that they were no longer delivering to Leisure World, or any of the buildings in this area between Rossmoor and Olney which required the driver to speak to anyone. I am totally amazed that a business would cut off its service and potentially lose thousands of dollars a week. Very friendly service. The food is good. And WOW! portions are huge. Everything is made fresh. I've ordered steamed dumplings and was told it would be an extra 10 min or so because they were making fresh. She said they ran out earlier but since they keep getting orders they are making more. Egg rolls are fresh and hot. Soup is a bit weak but overall we are very pleased. When I had to wait longer than expected (because they were busy) extra rice and soup was put in the bag for free. I drove down to Maryland for a road trip with my girlfriend. When we got there we were hungry. Thank god we found this little gem. The boss lady was extremely friendly, the food was great and the price was reasonable. The young chow fried rice was to die for. We also ordered Singapore rice noodle. Pretty amazing. I am a 30 year old Olney resident that has been ordering from Shang Hai since I was in high school. After yesterday i will NEVER order from them again. Several of my family members live in Olney and have ordered from there regularly as well. Last night while visiting my mom's house we ordered from them and were told it would be 45 min for delivery. I called after an hour and 15 minutes and was told my order was on the way. When they arrived my husband called the restaurant to see if there was any way they could do anything for taking so long. The woman said that she could do something next time which was fine. After sitting down to eat I found a staple in the General Tso's chicken. I called to let them know just for informational purposes and was accused of doing it to get $20 off of my meal. Needless to say this upset me. Why after frequenting your business for 14 years would I now do that!?!? I have never called with a complaint before even when my chicken was burnt because the parents were out of town and the kids were taking over. My mom was the one that paid and has a good paying job in a public position and my sister and I have decent jobs for our age. The audacity of this woman to insult my character like that. This establishment has no business savvy. They just lost business from 3 Olney households in one night (my mom, sister, and me). read more

I had a craving for General Tso's chicken this past week. In honor of the passing of the gentleman who invented this dish, I simply had to have some. It was good enough that I will be going there again. The portion was generous and the lady who was working at the counter was professional and courteous. The price is reasonable. I've had better and I've had worse. I can only speak about General Tso's chicken but will follow up if I order something different. I spoke with couple of others like me who were waiting for their orders to take home and they were both complimentary of the quality of food. Dating myself here, but I've been a customer every now and then since the place was known as Ling's. They're really good, affordable Chinese food! The one thing they do better than the others here in town (that I've noticed) is that their vegetables and fruit seem to be slightly fresher and thicker than Hunan and House Fortune. Sick at home today and called for delivery -- ordered soup and a couple of items that i really wasn't hungry for to bring check up to delivery base -- daughter said "oh sorry it's $14.70 and it needs to be $15.00". I pled with her to forego the .30 difference and explained we've been patrons for years and i couldn't drive -- no dice. So.....they lost $14.70 order and tip over 30 cents!!
