Was craving saucy noodles and discovered this restaurant. Very friendly staff and nice portions. Restaurant was not crowded, so we were easily able to walk in and grab any table we wanted. Ordered a handful of items as it was our first time and wanted to try lots of stuff out. We ordered the Dan Dan noodles, specialty noodles, cabbage, green beans, and eggplant. We have only moved here for a couple of months, and this restaurant has quickly become one of our family favorites for noodles and Chinese appetizers. We love their lamb and beef noodles, they are yummy and nutritious, perfect for a cold and rainy day. Their daily specials are only $9.99 which is pretty good value these days. We also like that they have several different kinds of noodles to choose from: regular is nice and al dente, thick ones have more substance, and rice noodles are nice and chewy. Chinese Appetizers are one of their best offerings not to be missed, they are at the counter, covered for freshness so it's a bit hidden. Basically you walk up and tell them you want to order appetizers, and they will open the lid and let you pick 3 kinds. We usually pick 2 veggies and one meat for $12.99. This complements our soup noodles very well. Restaurant is generally pretty clean and comfortable, the service is prompt and courteous. Plenty of free parking. read more

This review is based on my one time experience! Came on a Sunday evening and it was quite empty inside so we got seated right away with a large party. I was craving a beef noodle soup but note this is the Chinese style beef noodle soup than the Taiwanese beef noodle soup. I got the signature beef noodle soup. The portion was good for the price. The beef was tender and broth flavorful. You get the option of thin or thick noodles so the thin noodles are more like round thin noodles (think long spaghetti noodles) and the thick are really thick wide noodles that are about 1.25" wide. Note: some items may have the same name but there is a difference! For example lamb noodle soup under the "noodle soup" section is just lamb flavored broth with noodles and no meat but under the "signature dishes" section, the lamb noodle soup has meat. Green onion pancake was crispy but it was missing a lot of flavor and not much green onion. Service is fairly quick with all things considered. read more

This was a surprising find and the place is kind of hard to find. It's nestled at the back of a strip mall. It's not huge but there's plenty of seating for smaller parties. We were in the mood for soup/soup noodles and this place hit the spot. The service was okay, not overtly friendly but the server helped pack out leftovers to go and was cordial. They have a number of cold dishes (i.e. tripe) that you can order to go. Their options are located right around the cash register/counter. As for the food, I'll start with the "meh" and go from there. The "meh" would be their green onion pancake (tsung you bing). While it's crispy, it's missing something....maybe not enough green onions, flavor...just not quite what I'm looking for. Next up and a little better is the juicy pork dumping (xiao long bao). It's got a thicker skin, similar to Ma Ma Lu's but juicier and has good flavor. Their soups were the best and I would definitely go back to try other soups or order the same ones. And, their price was more than reasonable...hard to find these days. Their stewed beef and tendon noodle soup with thin noodles was really good. Spicy but not too spicy and they gave plenty of soft/tender beef and tendons. The other soup was the special of the day which was a rice noodle with beef and pickled vegetables. Lamb was very tender and flavorful, thick noodles had the chew but hard to grip with the wooden chopsticks. I added more of the chili oil to give some broth a bit more zing Dan Dan noodles with sesame top with peanuts some type of gingery sauce. I think what you order here will make or break your experience. I think pork chop rice is a more Taiwanese dish, so it was just okay compared to what I have tasted. before. The beef roll was disappointing because the picked vegetables inside made it saltier than normal. (I have had it with cilantro in the past and it is a better flavor combination.) The pastry, however, was good - so I believe the green onion pancake would be a better option to accompany a meal. The stewed beef and tendon noodle is probably another good option. Not that cheap but you get great quality food, I especially loved the flavors of the braised beef noodles, the soup was slightly spicy and the noodles were hand pulled and chewy texture. It is always said that the more Asian customers you see at an Asian restaurant, the more authentic it is. Well, this restaurant only had Asian customers! We ordered the Dandan noodles and the Beijing Style soybean paste with noodles (basically a Zha Jiang Mian). The portions were quite large. The Dandan noodles were very good, but they had the Szechuan peppers, which brought that numb feeling I'm not a fan of. Other than that, the noodles were very good. The Zha Jiang Mian was very good, particularly because the pork pieces were minced, which I enjoy more than bigger pork pieces. I grew up eating Northern Chinese cuisine which includes many dishes that made of wheat flour such as Bao, dumpling, noodles, and flat breads. The food from this restaurant simulates cuisine from Xian, China, where the Terracota warriors are located. I like the Liangpi dry noodle dish which is only served on the summer weekends for about $10. The famous lamp noodle soup is another fave of mine and is served year round. The rest of the dishes are so-so and no where near their counterparts in China. The woman receptionist is always friendly and the service is speedy. The inside is clean. We ordered food for delivery from this place and we were so happy!!!! Husband saw it on yelp. I have not had authentic chinese hand cut noodle beef stew with tendon in a long time, as in since I would travel to different parts of China for work until last night! My husband hit the jackpot! It was so delicious! I bet it would taste so much better coming straight from their kitchen. So I plan to go to the restaurant soon. Did a quick SoCal trip this past weekend and our first stop was Shang Jie Kitchen! We had our doggo with us so we decided to do take out instead of eating in. My husband and I decided to share their: #1 Lamb noodle soup with thick noodles - It came with wood ear mushrooms, tofu skin, and some vermicelli noodles. The thick noodles were cooked very well with a nice and chewy texture. The real star was the soup base! It was absolutely delicious and contained the right amount of umami to it! It did have lamb flavor but it wasn't too off putting or incredibly gamey. I honestly think they could have even more of that gamey flavor but I do understand it's not everyone's cup of tea. Definitely recommend! #61 Shaangxi style pork biscuit - This was much bigger than I expected and the pork they used seemed like chopped up pork belly. This was also super delicious and flavorful. The bread that they used was a bit crispy on the outside but soft when you bite in. The only thing about it that I wasn't too into was how oily it was due to the type of meat they used. The oil just piled up at the bottom and was dripping out as we ate. Overall, the food we got was great! I wanted to get the liangpi (cold noodles) but it was seasonal and they only make it for the summer. It isn't quite summer yet but I think they did mention that they will make it soon. Hopefully I'll be able to do another quick trip during the summer just so I can try their liangpi! Shang Jie has the BEST spicy beef noodle soup - and for that alone it gets 5 stars from me. The noodle soup has fresh knife/hand cut noodles, chunky & meaty pieces of beef, plenty of scallions & cilantro, and a super flavorful broth. (Just typing that out made me hungry!) I literally ONLY get this every time we go and I always finish the entire bowl. I've tried a couple of different places, but I like this place the best because they do the knife/hand cut noodles so well - a lot of other places only offer the straight noodles and it's not as appealing for me.
