In my opinion, it seems as tho these guys are really good at defrauding people out of money, but not giving you anything in return! If you are not about to die from hunger, I would go elsewhere! We called in and placed an order to pick up. The young lady that answered the phone advised me that it would be about 30 minutes, and asked if that was 'ok'? I said that 30 minutes was fine. I placed our order- a fairly small, uncomplicated order... we waited for 30 minutes and proceeded to the restaurant. I went inside, my husband waited outside (we had our 2 dogs with us) I went in and gave them my name. The girl found the ticket and told me how much it was. I paid the bill with my debit card. And I waited.. and waited.. and waited.. (keep in mind she told me 30 minutes, and when I got there it had been 35 min.) after 10-15 minutes I asked her where my food was. She began to look for my ticket. (She found it a little bit ago to take my money) Many minutes later with the help of someone else she finally found it. I was e then told my order had been misplaced but they would start my food right then- and it would be another 15 -20 minutes. Needless to say I was furious! I insisted on a refund or (and I preferred) to have the ticket voided! Well, she gave me a slip to signs saying they were refunding my money. However- it has been more than a week and no refund. They seem to be in the business of defrauding people out of money and giving nothing in return. I will be going back today and if i don't get my money back today i will file a lawsuit against them. No, $21.60 isn't much money, but that isn't the point. Also, there were ALOT of people that seemed to have their orders "lost" after they paid for them. It makes me wonder what is going on there! Sweet and sour chicken was alright and the fried rice was bland every time. Beware if you order shrimp of any kind be sure to look! Thick lines of poop hidden under the breading.. It's hard to come by "good " Chinese food, I'm always very wary when trying a new Chinese spot because I've had some pretty bad experiences at other places but this place was AMAZING. I only had the sesame chicken but that was enough for me to know it's good. It's how I judge my Chinese restaurants. Giving this place 4 stars because the food is very good and this place has the BEST eggrolls! The one negative is that a few of their waitresses are very catty and rude, two girls even made rude comments on my hair color right infront of my boyfriend! I visit this restaurant at least once a month, and I usually spend upwards of $40 per visit. This particular evening I treated family, and the bill was a $120.00. No big deal, so I was driving home with the wife and we went over the receipt. It was cold outside so I ordered 2 pots of hot tea for the table at $2.25 per pot of tea,again no big deal. Then I noticed there was a $2.25 charge for each additional tiny tea cup, per person. This ended up costing $15 for 2 small pots of tea with a total of 4 little tea bags. I called the restaurant and explain my dissatisfaction to the manager.He explained to me that they charge $2.25 for a pot of tea plus $2.25 for each additional cup. I could not believe what this idiot was telling me. I proceeded to explain to him that once I pay for an item what I do with it on the table is my business. If I order a plate of fried rice do they charge me $5 for each additional plate that I want to share with my family member. This would be applied to any menu item, given the fact I spent a $120 and was charge $15 for small bags of tea is outrageous. I asked him kindly to remove it from my tab, he refused. I told him that he just lost a customer that has been faithful for over 2 years. What a moron, That being said the service that particular evening was horrible, as well none of the food was served correctly and brought out late and staggered throughout the entire meal. read more

This place was recommened to us as one of the best Chinese places in Gtown. Granted, I rarely eat Chinese so I am probably not the most reliable in this category but I'll do my best! It was ok. We ordered General Tso's. The girl on the phone told me it was spicy, but it was not. So if you want spicy you may have to ask for them to increase the heat! The food was cold when we picked it. This isnt a huge deal because it is takeout and some of that could have been our fault since we had to drive it home (and we have a microwave, easy fix) The flavor was good. I'm a real Chinese snob and this is some dang good Chinese. The beef & broccoli is seriously the best I've ever had. The broccoli is soft and actually edible and the beef has a wonderful brown sauce that I can never get enough of. The egg rolls are equally delicious. I've also had the sweet and sour chicken. I prefer the sauce on the side but love the sauce and all the vegetables that come with it. My other favorite is the chicken fried rice. Not too many vegetables and also a really good flavor. it was my first time visiting this place. i was craving asian food today so i decided that i would buy lunch for me and my coworker and i must say i was very disapointed in the customer service experience i had today. i ordered chicken chowmein, which i've ordered before. i received chicken, cabbage, and carrots. i called the business back only for the guy to tell me i ordered the wrong thing and that it was the lo mein that had the noodles and chicken i wanted. he put me on hold, came back on the line, put me on hold again. i told him i was going to go back to get a refund and he put me on hold again! furthermore, the to go bag was a mess. juice came out of the main dish and went everywhere in the bag. i know you guys were getting ready to close, but i paid for my food and i should of been a priority. next time i will stick to pizza! i even tipped the guy before i left. thanks a lot! read more

Just passing through and wanted some good Chinese food and discovered this gem in Georgetown. Great prices, big portions, and just the atmosphere we were looking for. Egg rolls were delicious, steamed dumplings were exactly what I was craving and I recommend getting a little adventurous for "take out taste" and trying the egg foo young. read more

I used to love this place but it has really gone downhill recently. I walked in and waiting at the sign that says "wait to be seated" for about five minutes before a girl behind the counter told me to grab a seat. I walk into the dining room and the only clean table is the giant booth in the back corner. I tell them that, and so they clean the table. I sit down and wait 13 minutes just for someone to take my order. She is wearing a dirty sweatshirt and looks really disheveled. She doesn't write down my order and then repeats it back to me -wrong. I correct her, and she says okay and leaves. She then comes back about three minutes later with the wrong soup, the one I corrected her on, and still no drink. I tell her that soup is not wonton and ask to please have my dr. Pepper. She says okay and then proclaims "oh my god I brought hot and sour because that's what I wrote! I'm sorry!" And I told her I asked for wonton and corrected her when she repeated hot and sour back to me. I want wonton.... and a drink. It's been literally 20+ minutes from when I walked in and I don't even have a drink. This is insane. read more

We went there on a Sunday afternoon to get lunch. The food was less that wonderful, and the service was non existent. The girl came and asked us what we wanted to drink and after bring our drinks she asks if we want any soup with our meal. We both ordered egg drop and she walked away never to be seen from again. She left no straws which is disgusting and never brought our soup. When we went to pay the soup was on our bill and after awkwardly trying to convince us that the soup was actually free (which was clearly a lie) we paid quickly and vowed never to return. It might be decent take out in a pinch but don't expect any customer service when you go. . . . Would not recommend. read more

A hidden jewel! Been coming here for years and they never disappoint. I really enjoy their sweet and sour chicken, lemon chicken, seasame chicken, beef and broccoli, and wonton soup! They are generous with their portions and give you lots of food for your money. Not too expensive either! The only place in Georgetown that has really good Chinese food! Im a life local, ive seen chinese food come into town and go. I have eaten at chinese restaraunts all over the country. I'm also an advid eater. (fat man) This place pulls no stops at satisfying taste and portion sizes. The price is very reasonable and the atmoshphere is cool and relaxed. Like eating at a friends place. Hands down best Chinese food I have ever had. Every Chinese place I have been to has a similar style and recognizable taste, not here. Shanghai Express has a unique taste, different style and delivers on quality on every occasion. my personal favorites are the sesame chicken with fried rice and Wonton soup or Lo Mein. If your really hungry check out the steamed or fried dumplings or Crab Rangoons. Had a surprisingly great experience and lunch take-out from here. My vegetarian entree wasn't on the lunch menu and I ordered hot-and-sour soup, and egg roll and mixed vegetables with garlic sauce, added fried tofu - modified a regular veggie entree. Expecting to pay over $10, it was $7 - they gave me the lunch special, despite the special order. What a disappointment! Crab rangoons had hardly any cream cheese and no crab, on top of that it didn't come with any sauce. The general tso chicken was bland, how is that possible? I was charged to up grade to fried rice that is basically clumped white rice with soy on it. The rice had no vegetables, not even onion, and didn't have any egg. I will never eat here again. Their food is so-so. I've definitely had much better elsewhere. I guess there are very few choices for halfway decent Chinese food in Georgetown. The chicken in the Dragon and Tiger fight dish was a little too doughy for my taste. I'd stick with anything that isn't breaded. It's definitely a small step up from Chinesefood.com, though. So, I guess that's a plus! Some of the other items on the menu (appetizers, soup, etc.) weren't too bad. I did really like the shrimp fried rice as well. read more
