I write from an OC perspective and parking is a must, this place is in a massive lot with plenty of good parking all around. Found this spot on YELP while in the area and craving Chinese food. Simple menu from ale cart to elaborate dinner sets. I was with my wife and mom and we wanted to go lite. Won ton soup was great, we finished it fast and really enjoyed it. We also got the orange chicken and combo fried rice, it was more than enough for the three of us and took a lil back to the hotel for later. Service was also great, the guy had a keen eye on drinks and kept us full, the lady was also very helpful and had a great sense of humor. We came in for lunch. We had the crab wontons, that were good and the calamari which was really chewy. We ordered orange chicken, curry chicken and shrimp in lobster sauce, all were great. Well, I should of know if the outside is this dirty, the inside is FLITHY!! Vents are clogged with dirt, floors look like they have never seen a broom or wet mop ever. Walls are covered in whatever that splashed there. Food was not impressive. Bland. The servers were just that. We're not vocal in recommendations, maybe they don't speak English. I won't be back!!! Tried it for the first time on Monday. I had the beef and broccoli and vegetarian spring rolls. I paid about $28. The food was very Bland typical fast food Chinese. Nothing too impressive. I find this place to be hit or miss, but mostly miss. Lunch recently was the worst. Soup & meal was tepid. I ordered the KungPao Chicken & the texture was way off. Reviews for this restaurant span the gamut; from great to bad. My experience there is towards the low end. This place has the usual decor and background music that all Chinese restaurants seem to have. We were seated quickly by the waitress. Both of us just had water. Only bottle beer, but there used to be a full bar. We had the crispy duck, which is my standard that I measure restaurants by, beans sauté, triple sauté (chick, beef, and pork with veggies), and chicken fried rice. The duck was crispy. Like, deep fried crispy. Extremely gamey. Even the plum sauce couldn't save it. The triple sauté had large pieces of meat and overcooked veggies in a slight sauce of some kind. The fried rice was just average. The beans sauté was the best dish. Although the beans were overcooked, they were tasty in a black bean sauce. Service there was quick and the waitress came by twice to see how we were doing. Overall, very disappointing. The morning after we ate there I told a friend about it and he agreed that he wasn't impressed by the place either. Like good Chinese food (especially the duck)? We had dinner here last night and it was AMAZING! Old school just the way we like it. They had Sizzling Rice Soup that was so flavorful I didn't add a drop of soy sauce. The Fried Shrimp appetizer and Egg Rolls were light and crispy and served piping hot. The 3 Flavor Stir Fry was so good. Again no soy sauce needed. The veggies in every dish were fresh and crispy and the service was perfect. And it's only a couple miles from our home. Highly recommend this place. The atmosphere was old school too and they make a perfect Mai Tai!!! read more

We came here with Mort and Isadora for the first time. Restaurant is beautiful, Chinese music playing quietly in the background. We loved that it didn't overpower our conversation. Menu is smaller than other Chinese restaurants, but everything we ordered was delicious. The sesame tofu was a revelation! Very lightly crispy in a mildly sweet sauce. Absolutely delicious. I also had bokchoy with black mushrooms. Richard had chicken with snow peas and water chestnuts and pronounced it very good. The other three had egg drop soup, which they really enjoyed. Though we live in the area, I was hesitant to try Shanghai based on past reviews, however I'm glad we did. First, service was impeccable. We were greeted at the door, seated right away and immediately brought water and our drinks. The ambience is warm. Our order was taken as soon as we were ready and our order arrived quickly. Chinese food is usually not one of my favorites due to the amount of salt, but this was not the case at Shanghai. The food was flavorful without being salty. We started with the egg rolls that were super hot and served with spicy mustard and sweet sauce. We followed with low Chow mein with pork and the kung pao chicken. Our meal was served with rice. All was excellent. There were two of us and we had plenty leftover to take home. I rarely eat leftovers, but I ate the leftovers the following day at lunch. Been to this place twice the tables are always sticky. I think it's the finish not food residue, but I cannot stand sticky tables. The man that greeted me told me he only spoke Chinese I ordered some thing that had chicken, shrimp and fish in it and it was OK They are very attentive when it comes to collecting for the check almost to attentive . When I saw the waitress put the fortune cookie I didn't eat back in her pocket to reuse it. They lost me forever. If you can't throw away a five cent fortune cookie Lord knows what else you do to pinch pennies. We decided to try this restaurant again after 20 years being the last time. It was good then and we thought it would be as good now. Not the case. We arrived in the evening with business was very slow. There was only one other party at another table. We ordered two items, the Mongolian beef and the combination lo mein. Both were very oily and just lukewarm when the plates arrived. The beef had been cooked as if it was boiled. Very soft and chewy. Not much flavor either. Won't be back again. I haven't been here since I was a kid and I was happy to be back. The food is very good and always makes you want to try new things. The service is a bit slow, but I believe they are severely understaffed. The restaurant is a bit dark and very relaxing, but a younger person, as myself, I love it and can see fine. I've tried multiple items so far and I haven't been disappointed tbh. Only thing I'd change is making the spicy items a bit more spicy. I felt no spice with the items I ordered. Well, we ate here today (Christmas Day) and we ordered 3 plates of appetizers and 5 plates for dinner of various items; this was for 2 people!! Yes, we were hungry, but we knew we'd take leftovers back home. For appetizers, we ordered ribs, fried shrimp, and egg rolls. All was great. For dinner, we ordered cashew chicken (add garlic), sweet and sour pork, combo fried rice, walnut shrimp, and beef and broccoli. Everything was great. My only disappointment was that the sweet and sour pork was warm, not hot. Well done! It was kind of funny when we placed the order for ALL this food and the waiter asked if others were joining us.
