I decided to give this place a try after visiting a few other spots in the area, and at first glance it seemed promising. The restaurant is nice and well decorated, which made me expect a much better experience than what I actually got. Unfortunately, the service was extremely disappointing. Even after mentioning that it was my first time visiting, the server was not helpful and mostly ignored us throughout the meal. A few items we asked for were apparently unavailable, which was already frustrating, but the bigger issue was the overall lack of attentiveness and basic hospitality. Even with that, I still orderedc around 7 different items, and the total came out to $99. The food itself was not terrible, but the portions were some of the smallest I have seen anywhere in the area. The "sharing plates" were especially ridiculous -- more like tea plates than actual food plates. Small portions would be easier to overlook if the food was exceptional, but it simply was not good enough to justify the portion. What made the experience even worse was the ending. Our group was 5 people, and despite the poor service, we still left a 20% tip. On top of that, the waiter stood there holding the payment touchpad and watched while I was paying, which felt incredibly uncomfortable and pressured almost like they were trying to influence what kind of tip I left. That kind of behavior makes an already bad experience feel even more unpleasant. Overall, this place looks much better than it performs. Nice decor cannot make up for poor service, tiny portions, and an uncomfortable checkout experience. Definitely not a place I would return to. read more

The space is quite small and narrow so you're sitting pretty close to the other tables, but the ambiance is nice and in the newer plaza in Plano. Slightly sweet mostly savory thicker sauce on probably a roasted duck. Very flavorful and good appetizer to start - Fish wonton soup. Hot wonton soup with a little bit of seaweed. Broth is light but flavorful and the fish inside is very soft - Pan fried bao. Juicy pork filling and crispy on the bottom! - Soup dumplings. We got both the regular pork and the pork with the crab on top. These are full of soup and probably my favorite soup dumplings in DFW now. I would recommend the regular pork one because it's a $4 up charge but you can't really taste the crab. - Crispy shrimp. Crispy with a thicker brown sauce. Finally got to try this new little place without there being a huge line. I can see why there usually are lines though. The fried and steamed soup dumplings were awesome. The broth was so flavorful without being salty and the wrappers were delicate without easily breaking. Just perfect. The scallion pancakes and Shanghai noodles were delicious as well. Service was incredibly fast, which is why I was too busy eating to take more than the picture of the first dish that came out. Prices are reasonable, too, so absolutely give them a try. read more

I really enjoyed going to Shanghai Taste. We went twice in our week-long trip, which is saying something because there are so many choices in the Dallas/surrounding area. The food was really good. I especially liked their XLB and pan fried buns. Both are very juicy to the point you really have to be careful to not burn yourself. Which is another very good point about Shanghai Taste, the food is piping hot. Very often I go to restaurants serving similar cuisines and the buns are not as hot as they should be. I also like that they have a little blackboard showing their specials. Both times we went, we had a party of 6 to 7, so we were able to try a variety of dishes. Everything was from good to great. The downside about Shanghai Taste is that it is a very narrow/small space. And both times they kept the restaurant very warm to the point of slightly uncomfortable for us. It won't deter me from going though. This is a must-visit every time I am in the area. read more

Absolutely delicious! We don't have authentic Shanghainese food where we're at but once we saw this place's menu after dinner, we had to come in and try some light bites for a second dinner. It was so worth it! We ordered the pan fried soup dumplings and stir fried rice cakes and were blown away. The soup dumplings had a crispy bottom with plenty of soup inside of the dumplings once bitten into. The stir fried rice cakes had plenty of proteins and a chewy, but soft texture for the rice cakes. I love the taste of wok made food and it's very apparent with this dish. If you're in the area, give this place a try! It has a clean, aesthetic minimalist interior. Staff are efficient. P.S. Their crab soup dumplings and normal soup dumplings are very solid, although a little pricey. Their curry noodles are also very good; they add a warmth that provides shelter from dropping temperatures. But my best friend suggested we give it a shot today. I'm of the opinion that it's a place that's more geared towards those who enjoy a generous helping of MSG and sweet flavors. The wonton and pan-fried buns were like a flavor bomb of MSG that I just couldn't handle. The food was underwhelming, and the stir-fried beef noodle was way too sweet. The deep-fried pork chops were the only decent dish. While people have different tastes, I won't be returning. We enjoyed everything we ordered (XLB, Shen Jen Bao, beef noodle soup, and spicy wonton in chilli oil) except the spicy wonton in chili oil but thats personal preference as I like it sweeter.
