Disappointed to say the least. I was excited to order from here because Shangri La offers a bento box for dinner. I substituted the wonton soup for the miso soup, and the wonton soup was excellent. Sadly, the rest of my meal was not what I expected. The salad dressing was tasteless and not the normal sesame ginger dressing I usually get at Japanese restaurants. My husband ordered teriyaki shrimp and white rice as part of the bento box; however, I ended up getting teriyaki chicken and brown rice. The tempura and shrimp vegetables were tasty, though and the California roll was sufficient. My husband's sesame chicken was good. I just won't be going back to this restaurant again. read more

This was an amazing experience. At first my boyfriend and I were going to try somewhere else but we decided to stay. We had the crab Rangoon as an appetizer and it was delicious. We then followed with some wings and they were perfectly breaded. It was similar to a tempura. We had standard entrees and those were delicious as well. I regret not taking pictures of the meals. They were well presented and aesthetically pleasing. The fortune cookies are chocolate which is a nice touch. We also had some bubble tea which was to die for. The space is clean and maintained. There is a large TV and it had the football game on (amen). The ambiance is welcoming and calm. I think it's a versatile space that is great for a variety of groups. Where to start...well, I'm a seasoned Chinese food eater being raised around Asian people from a young age. Having said that, this (for my fat American arse) was the perfect marriage of American style Chinese food, cooked in the most authentic style possible. I'd go as far to say it's the closest you can get to Chinatown in SJ. The service is as good as the food. The servers don't stop moving, but not to the point you feel harried. We tipped 30% of the bill which is rare for us (25 usually is good service). Plus they know the menu and aren't afraid to give suggestions which is refreshing. You can always tell by how passionately the servers discuss the food how your meal will be. If they say, "People always seem to like the," run. That usually means they don't eat the food. These guys eat the hell out of this food, you can tell. I would too! We ate (2/3 on house recommendation) Scallion pancake...aka "Chinese pizza." Normally this is a dense, oniony, glutaneous mess, but not here. Dare I say delicate? Flaky? Cooked to perfection...fried hard, but not burnt nor grease logged. Absolutely the best I have ever had, and was given a nod by the waiter, so they know it's worthy, too. Salt and Pepper Pork...had I known the coating would have been as perfect and dry and crispy as it was, I would have sprung for the jumbo shrimp. I have yet to have this outside of Chinatown where Salt and Pepper wasn't done like a soggy tempura with black pepper dumped in. This is fried like good catfish is fried...a thin, dry crust...littered with jalepenos and onions, served on a bed of cabbage. The pork is a thin chop, btw. Also given a thumbs up by the waiter. General Tso's. Fried the same as above, in a savory spicy sauce, not overly sweet that literally reaches deep carmelization on the plate, just enough to scrape onto your rice. The sugar is aptly balanced with a healthy dash of acid (citrus and rice wine I'm guessing)and a deep pepper flavor; if you like soggy, cornstarch-y, sugary mess, you will not like this. Hands down also the best GT's I've ever had, but it's not my favorite dish, so if the boyfriend wasn't there, I would gave opted for the much lauded beef strips. There's always next time, though!!! The decor, particularly the tables and chairs are not on par with the food, nor is the clientele. There was a grown man in pajama pants dining in. A giant 90 million inch TV graces the back wall, so ladies be sure to plop with your back to the door if you want to converse the your better half. None of this detracts from the experience, but take-out from here would better serve you if it's date night!! We were on our way from Maryland to Cherry Hill, NJ on Saturday. We wanted to eat at a Chinese restaurant. I found Shangri La and it had very good ratings. We agree!! All the way from the conversation with the staff by phone as to whether the restaurant would be open by the time we arrived to the end it was perfect. We were were thinking we would arrive by 7:30 and the restaurant was to close at 8:00 pm. However, he said it would not be a problem at all. We arrived and said we were in a hurry (on our way to a dance!). It is casual and that is exactly what we like. The service was very quick and throughout our meal our server checked on us to see how we were doing. The food was delicious! We had three dishes, eggplant - oh my goodness it was so tasty; a dish where we customized our order (as one other reviewer described) and we got the tofu strips, so good; and bok choy and shitake mushroom dish, wow so tasty and healthy. And Brown rice! Tasty, healthy, quick - can't ask for anything more. We need to plan a trip to Cherry Hill, NJ again soon!! read more

This is without a doubt the worst food I have eaten out period! They were very rude when they were told that we had a severe seafood allergy and they failed to inform us that the crab Rangoon was made with real crabmeat and there was no mention of it in the description on the menu! The customary Chinese restaurant makes this dish with imatation crab meat! So my daughter fell ill on Christmas eve making her holiday miserable! She could have died from that! When she called to inform the manager of that he blamed it on her!!!!!! Can you believe that!!!!!! The food was cold, soggy and a lot of items tasted kind of off! The food was very expensive 209.00 plus a 41.00 tip and 2 people got sick immediately with upset stomach! I went tonight for a specific dish that's hard to find elsewhere--seafood tofu balls. It was on the menu and I ordered it. The waiter took the order, left, but then returned and said the dish was too time-consuming to prepare because they were so busy., so I'd have to order something else. What?! They didn't have time to make a dish that was on their menu? It wasn't a special order, but something on their menu. The restaurant wasn't at all full, but there were a lot of takeout orders coming in. So, apparently, they cater to their takeout business at the expense of the customers sitting at their tables. Miso Soup was excellent Beef with Garlic Sauce was mediocre. Very little Beef, A TON of Onions, bathed in a bland Sauce. Shrimp LoMein was meh. Again lacking the main ingredient, Shrimp. Basil Chicken - The Basil was overpowering. The Millennials who staff the room were very courteous and the one shining highlight. Amazing how much the food improved after they moved a few stores down from where they were in the Holly Ravine shopping center!! The menu is brimming with many choices you would expect to find in Chinatown! ! The prices are a bit high but the food quality is so worth it! Shangri-la is my number one choice when I'm trapped at home with a cold or flu. They deliver which means I won't get sicker by going out to pick up my food. Their Silver Chicken Soup somehow magically lessens the severity of my symptoms. It's a light chicken broth with tons of pieces of chicken, sliced shiitake mushrooms, shredded carrots, sliced snow pea pods, and pieces of bok choy. It's a Chinese version of Jewish Penicillin!! I keep telling myself to try something different, and before I even unlock my phone, I have something new I'm intending to order but once my phone is unlocked, anything new will again have to wait, I order my Silver Chicken Soup!! I ordered dan dan noodles for take-out here. So, this review is only based on the customer service I received when I came into the restaurant and the dan dan noodles. I was given the choice of having the noodles a little spicy or if I wanted them the regular way. If you know me you know I didn't hesitate to choose spice. When I walked in my order was ready and waiting for me. The guys behind the counter were really nice. They joked with me and made me feel comfortable immediately. I dont understand the positive rewiews. I just ordered here for the first time and the food had either no flavor or bad flavor. If I closed my eyes while eating their lo mein, I taste a plain unseasoned noodle. No chinese flavor at all. I ordered a spicy chicken dish, and it seemed like they took a jar of chinese chilis and just dumped it in, but somehow it tasted like ketchup!?! Again, no chinese food taste. The scallion pancake had no flakiness, it was thick, gummy, and no flavor. My leftovers are being tossed. For the past 5 years I have ordered only from Han Dynasty or Elena Wus (or the related Tres Yan Wu in Mt Laurel)... and I will continue to go to those places instead, even though they are further from home. read more

I went here with friends and family and have to say I love this place. In itself there isn't much to look at when you walk in, but the service and the food is what will keep you coming back. We had the Seafood Pan fried noodles which are phenomenal and the portion is huge, the braised beef noodle which is very good, General Tso chicken which is also very good for entrees.
