I wanted to try something different in the area, so gave this place a try. The menu is structured by sauce or cooking type, with a choice of meat under each. My mom and I order the more traditional chinese dishes. We each ordered a wonton soup. My mom has health issues eating shellfish, so she ordered the pork wonton soup. I ordered the shrimp wonton soup. The waiter was recommending the shrimp wonton. I told him my mom has health issues and wanted the pork. He quickly left saying "ok, pork then." When he brought the soups out, he placed my mom's soup down in front of her and said, "here is this one" and as putting my soup down, "and here is the better one." I was pretty shocked at this as we told the kid (25-30) it was a health issue that kept her from ordering the shrimp. The wait staff was quick talking and quick to come and go. We were the only people eating in at 4:30 on a Friday night and we were still the only people there when we left. It seems the most of their business is take out, since there was about 4 guys up near the drink/phone station talking and joking the entire time, and I did notice someone heading out with a delivery order. Compared to other chinese restaurants in the area, the atmosphere is cold: plain tables, plain walls, and the service is cold and unprofessional. Have had dinner here with friends twice in past 2 months Aug & Oct 2016 Dinner was very good. Friends had Pad Thai with fried rice which they enjoyed. Husband had Mongolian Beef and I had Moo Shu Pork came with 7 pancakes only complaint was pancakes were a little dry and most oriental restaurants serve tea included with meals but these were minor things and look forward to going back. This restaurant puts a twist on Chinese food that you would just live for. The wait staff is courteous and will help you find the best meal to fit your mood and taste. My favorite so far is the spicy beef noodle soup but there's so much more to the menu that I haven't tried so don't stop there! Prices are a bit high for a neighborhood Chinese spot. In terms of the decor, it's as stark and sterile as any fast food shop. I would say that Chick-Fil-A is much more welcoming on the inside. No condiments at all on the tables, no salt, no pepper, no soy sauce, no hot chili oil, nothing. I had to ask loudly several times for the condiments. Food quality, typical Chinese industrial food production. Wonton soup is not chicken stock, but is made from a powder, you can taste and feel the MSG as my fingers started to swell from the soup. I ordered some roast pork dish in garlic sauce, extra spicy. Absolutely no flavor. The "hot" chili oil, was not hot at all. Yikes!! The 20-something kids working there were constantly asking me if everything is good. Wow, just let my try it, and I'll tell you. Very annoying staff, calling everyone "Brother." I'm not your brother, brother. The rice was cold, the food was substandard, similar to what you would get from a food truck at Temple University. What can I say, the food was absolute garbage. Decided to try Shangri la out and I was not disappointed. This is probably going to be our new go to Chinese spot from now on. I called and ordered take out and drove 15 minutes to pick up. They are located in a strip mall on Springdale Dr. It is small restaurant with a few bistro tables and chairs very clean with really nice deco, accents with a modern feel.... I will not mind sitting in to have lunch or dinner. This is definitely not your typical dingy looking Chinese takeout spot. They were pretty busy when I stopped in and everyone seemed to be having a good time and enjoying their meals. I was quickly greeted upon entering and I only waited a few minutes for my order. The young man at the register was very friendly and struck a conversation with me while I waited for my order. They have an extensive menu with all your usual Chinese options and sushi and the also offer bubble tea. I ordered orange chicken with brown rice and it was pretty good not overly sweet, not greasy or drenched in sauce and the pieces of chicken were lightly battered. We hosted our rehearsal dinner at Shangri-La last week and could not have had a better experience. The food was delicious and started coming out almost as soon as the guests were seated. The staff was incredibly flexible, accommodating, and friendly, managing to both cut and distribute the groom's cake with little to no warning. Shangri-La has been around, in one form or another, probably for 20 years. It was great when it opened, then went downhill over time. But no more! I'm not sure if it's new chefs, new owners, or both, but the food is now creative, fresh, and delicious. The staff is also great -- making sure you're taken care of and enjoying your meal, giving recommendations on dishes, and just chatting with you. The restaurant moved one storefront over from where it used to be, and it feels like the move was meant to be part of a transition to having the restaurant be more of a takeout place. This is basically a "fusion" Chinese restaurant that would satisfy both Asian clients looking for a traditional but casual Chinese dishes as well as those who're used to a typical "Chinese" menu. My wife and I were visiting from Boston and stopped in to this unassuming place. Turns out, the guys working here are amazingly friendly, great people. Just awful! Have people in Cherry Hill never eaten better Chinese food than this? I don't know where so many positive reviews are coming from. Firstly, the food -- General Tso's Chicken, the most common dish on any Chinese restaurant menu -- I found a hard piece of bone in the middle of one chunk of chicken that almost broke my tooth, because I was expecting only boneless chicken in this dish. Next, some pieces were under-cooked, some pieces don't taste like chicken at all. Too much broccoli used to fill the take-out container. Secondly, the service -- ok, so they speak excellent English, (unlike some other Chinese restaurants) but the guy taking the order is borderline rude, you can barely finish what you're saying and you're almost rushed to hang up. I know you're busy and you want to take care of other customers, but I am a paying customer too, and I'm not narrating a story and wasting your time, I'm just trying to say how I want my food prepared. Then, the bubble tea, a total rip-off, $4 for a cup that is smaller than your McDonald's small soda cup, filled with some tapioca bubbles, and a lot of ice cubes and watered down. Ate here for Father's Day dinner. Excellent service and great food. We had the pork and chicken steamed dumplings. My children said the pork were the better of the two. The hot and sour soup was fantastic, same with the miso soup. Vegetable spring rolls were crisp, hot and tasty. The mustard sauce had a strong kick which goes straight to your head. For our main course, we had the General's chicken, sweet and sour shrimp and pork lo mein with white rice. All were good. read more

Excellent food and customer service. We had the Salt and Pepper Chicken and Szechuan Style Chicken. The salt and pepper chicken was lightly breaded with just the right level of spice and served on a bed of shredded lettuce with chopped garlic and bell peppers. There was no sauce with this dish. But it didn't need it. The Szechuan Chicken was served with peppers and onions in a brown Szechuan sauce. Both dishes were amazing. The restaurant was extremely clean. The food is amazing and would give 5 stars but for the service. The staff is super friendly and attentive but their timing is off. They bring your entree before you had time to finish your appetizers or soup. This consistently happens. But love the roast pork noodle soup and crispy beef. Mongolian beef was great too. Outstanding quality. You wouldn't necessarily expect it from the mediocre decor but this place pleasantly surprises. The server was very knowledgeable and professional. Very attentive. I've very rarely had a server in a Chinese restaurant ask me the level of spice I desired. He did and they got it just right. Everything looked and tasted like it was freshly made from scratch.
