Last night, my date and I walked in and ordered a volcano roll and a dragon roll, to go. We're told it will be ready in 30 minutes. Wow, that seems like a long time, especially considering only three of the 12 tables in view have customers at them. But okay, I pay and my date and I go down the street to an outdoor pub to have a drink. 35 minutes later I come back by myself to pick up our order. This will only take a few seconds, right? I see three "to go" order bags sitting on the windowsill. Of course, one of them is mine, right? Wrong. I stood there, in front of the front desk, for an additional 20 minutes. With nary a dragon roll in sight, I say to the hostess/cashier, who has provided zero updates on my dinner status, "If my order isn't out in two minutes I'm going to ask for a refund." It's about this time my date texts me (it's our first date) and says "Did you leave?" Yeah, Shangri La shenanigans put a definite damper on the evening. I did cancel. A rather defensive manager, without apologizing, said to me "we are very busy tonight" while her back was to me. I said "I can tell by all the empty tables." She explained again that they were very busy. Umm ... ok. I took my refund receipt and went back to my once cold beer that was getting warm and my once warm date that was getting cold. Pro Tip: You should consider moving your register. It's never okay to have your back to customers, especially in front, where you first greet them. There's absolutely no excuse for this. This wasn't any kind of an accidental breakdown of process. The hostess knew exactly what she was doing when she over-promised, setting us up for a literal under-delivered situation. The restaurant has no respect for their customer nor their customer's time. Not only was the expectation for when our dinner would be ready set improperly, but while I was waiting the hostess repeatedly told at least six couples and groups, who walked in, that it would be "20 to 25 minutes for a table." How is it possible you are going to seat all of these people in the same 20-25 minute time frame? And yes, when I was in my teens I was a host at a restaurant in San Francisco, so I do have some idea how it all works. What's the definition of disappointment? It's an expectation that's been set that's not been met. Telling your customer it's going to be 30 minutes when, in reality, 55 minutes later two stinkin' rolls aren't ready, results in variety of emotional responses, creates ill-will, and gets you reviews like this one. You said "30 minutes" and we were good with that. Had you said it would take an hour to get two rolls we may (or may not) have been okay with that, but at least let US decide if we're willing to do business with you under those terms. Don't freaking hold us hostage and put a damper on someone's evening because you're so intimidated by the prospect of your customers not wanting to buy your product when you're truthful with the timeline. We got there about twenty minutes after opening and the first to be seated. We ordered our drinks, appetizers, and entrees very quickly. The first two came quickly. Our cheese crab fritters and calamari were mostly breading and lacked the filling that makes them so appealing to begin with. My main issue, however, came with how long the wait was for food. 30 min-45 min is pretty standard, but not when everyone around you has gotten there after you, has been served before you, and has larger orders than you. I came here this past weekend with several friends and business associates, for a nice group dinner. We arrived a few minutes to 6:30 which is when we made reservations, and we waited maybe 10 minutes for our table. We originally have a reservation for 10 people at 6 but pushed it back 30 minutes, and I think when we arrived they were just waiting for several smaller table to open up. So that we could combine them for our party, and while we waited some of us sat near the hostess area. While several others sat at the bar since it's the really cold by the waiting area since it's right by the front door. Once seated we all looked over the menus, and based on the meal descriptions tried to envision what they looked like. Since not to many of the items had pictures, and with sushi what one roll is names at one restaurant. Can be something completely different somewhere else. But we finally all decided on what we'd have. Our waitress was very friendly and gave several of us her recommendations as far as if that item was or wasn't very popular. Which was really helpful as she also noted weather an item wasn't very good, and steered us towards a better option in some cases. Like with my girlfriend and I wanting to order the crispy albacore; our waitress noted is wasn't on the menu actually anymore because it wasn't very popular so we opted for the BBQ albacore instead as an appetizer. Everyone at the table ended up ordering something different whether it be a standard meal or various rolls. Because I couldn't decide on a roll that really jumped out at me, I just decided to play it safe and got the sesame chicken. While my girlfriend ordered the Kobe roll for herself. I was a kind of disappointed in with the deep fried ice cream, as the ice cream portion seemed really large in its presentation. But it actually was a really small portion of vanilla ice cream, with a huge deep fried crust was wasn't any special. And my girlfriend and I end up breaking off almost all of it and setting it to the side of our place. The other portion of the dessert was a small portion of whipped cream with a little chocolate sauce on it and a maraschino cherry adorned on top of it. But the price which was less than $7 I can't really complain too much, but again it wasn't something I'd recommend or order again. Overall we all had a good time during dinner, and the meals themselves were pretty good. The food just wasn't as good as many of Asian/Sushi restaurants that I've been to before. And I've just honestly had better elsewhere with what we ordered here. So because I didn't have any issues with my meal, and it was ok and not great. That's the only reason I'm giving it 3-stars, because I can't really say I was a fan and that I'd go out of my way to go back. But our hostess did make for a good experience. read more

So, I've been here a few times and it always been just "ok" well tonight it was just horrible. My daughter ordered teriyaki beef and it was inedible, the beef was sliced gristle. I order Kung Pao Chicken, safe right ? wrong, it was super over cooked and the salty hot and sour soup tasted like it was sitting in a warmer for two days. First time here and we were extremely disappointed. The service was terrible. The waitress didn't write down our order and brought out extra rolls we didn't order. The menu does not specify what is deep fried so if you are gluten free beware. We ordered stuffed mushrooms, no indication of deep fried and the arrived completely breaded. Some rolls that say shrimp mean tempura shrimp so be sure to ask about everything if your gf. The food was not the greatest compared to other sushi restaurants in the area and over priced to be honest. The 1 stars is based solely on strong alcoholic beverages. The restaurant is absolutely disgusting. If you ask for a booth expect food splattered all over the walls. The decor helps hide it well but it's clear this place is rarely deep cleaned. So the service was okay, the food mediocre at best. I ordered a Bento Box Dinner. I noticed that one of my choices for the entre was Orange Chicken. Seeing that Lemon Chicken is listed on a separate section of the menu but not as an option for the Bento Box Dinner i asked if I could have Lemon Chicken instead. I was told of course but there would be an upcharge of $2.00. I agreed as I really wanted Lemon chicken. I was a bit perplexed as to why there is an upcharge, yes i know I am ordering off the approved selections, but both Lemon Chicken and Orange Chicken are both listed on the menu under. "chicken choices" . In Fact the Orange chicken price is more expensive than the Lemon Chicken. So why an up-charge when technically both items are the same and one is tossed in a lemon citrus sauce and the other in a zesty orange sauce and the chicken is probably deep fried or pan fried in advance and sauced as ordered. I will say I really enjoyed the Miso Soup (which is why there are two stars instead of 1). The rest of the items on the Bento Box was a salad, nothing exceptional, Tempura veggies again nothing fantastic, a pot sticker that was so over fried it was more like a crispy dumpling, and three pieces of a small California roll. The he actual bento box did not have any wasabi or ginger included. I was going to ask but about 5 minutes later my Tiger Roll came out and there was wasabi included. But one of my biggest complaints is why did I have to wait until halfway through with my meal to get a pair of chopsticks? My opinion is don't waste your time. This was going to be a two star review but they gained one star back because the sake nigiri melts in your mouth. I'm not a fan of their rolls. I think they're overly sauced and something else that I can't quite put my finger on is off. I know that's a personal preference thing so I was going to just leave it alone until I tried to order more sake nigiri since I could not stand to eat the rolls we ordered - that's fine, more for my partner and I can order more of the nigiri I liked. When I tried to order more nigiri, I was told they had already closed up. No one had previously walked by to let us know the kitchen was closing or check on us. Tonight was our first time (and our last) trying Shangri La Asian Bistro. My partner and I like to try a new to us place at least once a month and seeing M Sushi was a hit we decided to try their across-the-street neighbor. I called their main like ~7 times and was sent straight to voicemail 5 of those times. I tried to order through their website and the website link was broken, so we ordered through DoorDash. The wait was about 75 - 90 minutes for our food, we didn't mind as we were ordering relatively early. My partner went to go pick up the food and he had let me know that the staff was not wearing masks and the place was packed with maskless people. (Only adding in for CoVid conscious people). He finally got our food and brought it home. We ordered the Honey Chicken, Sesame Chicken, and some Chicken Spring rolls bringing our total with a tip to about $42. The spring rolls were chewy and only the ends were the only crispy parts, the sesame chicken was not lightly battered as described and the chicken was incredibly dry, and the honey chicken was also dry. We were both disappointed with our meals, regretting not getting something else to eat like ole reliable Ming Sing. Honestly, we were expecting a lot more from our experience, especially because we see this place is popular! We sadly will not be returning. read more

They have Chinese and Japanese food with a big menu that has lots to chose from. They also have a full bar with drink specials and a selection of sake. We ordered takeout online a couple of weeks ago and noticed the total charged on our card was higher than the total online. We let it go thinking it was probably a one time mistake. Today, we placed another online order and when my husband picked the order up, the young gal at the counter quoted a higher price, so he asked her why. In a rude tone, she stated that they haven't updated their website yet and the total she just gave him was the increased prices. He told her we ordered based on the online pricing and asked that they honor it, and she stated "that's just not going to happen." Because of her rude behavior, it became more than just about the money so he asked to speak to a manager. She told him that there wasn't anyone to speak to. We took my friend's elderly mom here for lunch. She wanted sushi, but I am not really a fan. Lol. It was a really nice sunny day, but still a little chilly. I was able to pull up in front and drop them off at the door. This place is located in downtown Lodi so it's off street parking. There's also a little parking lot about a block off. I happened to drive through the little alley between buildings and parked in back at the bank parking lot. ( It was on a Sunday and it was closed. ) We ordered a couple sushi rolls which mama bear loved. Lol. Since I am allergic to shell seafood...I did not pay attention to their orders. Lol. I did, however, enjoyed the spicy garlic eggplant and the spicy garlic pork!! ( I lovvvvve breaded fried pork in sauce!! ) All I can say for the other dishes is that the conversation went silent. This was our first time here because there was a 45 minute wait at the sushi place across the street. The first thing that caught my eye was the unprofessional handwritten sign on the door saying "we don't take Apple Pay. Sorry!" Ok. The next thing to catch my was the big very unprofessional handwritten sign that basically said "if you seat your self you WILL NOT be served, you cannot sit at the bar". Wow. Maybe they should invest in one of those professionally made signs that say"Please wait for hostess to seat you". We get seated pretty quick by a not too friendly hostess. Our waitress was ok, not friendly, just there. She could not answer questions we had about the rolls but offered to go ask someone. We didn't want to wait for answers, so we ordered. Our food came out delivered by a few different people. No one was friendly or seemed to like what they were doing. The food was good which is why they get two stars.
