PROS: - My first time to order Korean fried chicken. It was basically like ordering Buffalo Wings, but done Asian style. - Ordered the Lunch Special, Mixed (Soy Flavor) Chicken to go. Came in a small, cute box. Since the box was so small, I didn't think that the chicken volume would satisfy my hunger, but together with the lunch special side orders of rice & coleslaw, it was just enough to fill my tummy. - Although my order was to go, I noticed the warm atmosphere of the venue. It is perfect for watching a live sports event on their big-screen TV while chomping down on chicken. CONS: - It's not cheap. The Lunch Special is $13.99 without any drink and not including tax. (But includes two side orders as mentioned above) If you eat at the restaurant, order a drink and give a tip, you're looking at +/- $20.00 easy. But then again, it's a nice venue, and in a good location, the overhead costs are understandable. But in reality, in this current economy, the price is on par with places like KFC & Raising Cane's. - While the side order of coleslaw was delicious, the side order of rice seemed skimpy. - I'm basically a dude with a small appetite. Majority of the tables were filled and we were greeted right away and they let us choose where we wanted to sit. We ordered the bulgogi fries, 9 piece mixed chicken with pickled radish and my friend ordered chicken katsu with rice. I really like the bulgogi fries, it had a great amount of flavor for the meat. She brought over their house sauce and explained they aren't allowed to serve a dipping sauce container, she drizzled our food as we requested. I was in the Stockton area visiting friends and during my short stay, I happened to see Bonchon as I was filling up my car rental at Costco nearby. 9 times out of 10, if I see a Bonchon, I'll go to satisfy my K-chicken craving even if I had planned on eating somewhere else, lol!! Recently discovered this place with some co workers and I swear I've been back almost every other week with my family. I've showed this place to so many people and they also love it now! The wings of course are the best especially the spicy ones but they have such a good variety on their menu. The japche and the beef bulgogi bowl are my favorites as well as the onion rings and potstickers! The service is always top tier for sure, they constantly make sure you're comfortable and enjoying the food which is lovely to see such hospitality in Stockton! I always go with the half and half bone in wing with a coleslaw and the chicken was perfectly crispy and a good sauce ratio on it. Although I will say, the spicy wings were a little spicer than usually, but that's okay with me because I love spicy food. I order onion rings as well and I think they're worth the price, considering they are bigger than the average onion rings. The only thing I did not like were the Takoyaki Balls. I am not sure what it is, if it was the sauce or the octopus but they weren't good--at all. They had an odd smell and the octopus tasted rubbery, super small pieces too. Weird aftertaste too.
