Shantell and her staff were warm, welcoming, funny and great to be around. My husband and I took two friends visiting from out of town for a Saturday brunch and we were all more than satisfied with our meals. The location is beautiful and less than 5 minute walk to historic downtown Sanford. We'll be back very soon. read more

I'm a bit upset I didn't write this review as soon as I left this place... but again, I was pregnant at the time My husband brought me here for my birthday as he has nothing but great things about this place. We came during a weekend and they had live music playing outside. Mind you, I can't recall the name on the person that was performing but she was amazing. As soon as we walked in we were greeted and they told us we can pick a table. We sat down and quickly were able to place the order for our drinks. Browsing through the menu everything seemed very appetizing but we went ahead and settle for what we really wanted. I had the friend chicken which it was a 10/10 (in my keith lee voice) my husband had the Philly cheese and if you let us, we almost bought seconds. Our son enjoyed his meal as he had chicken bites as well. What I REALLY REALLY REALLY loved about this place is that they do not offer soda beverages and I was very happy with that as it's healthier in a very big way. Order: Chicken and Waffles and Jerk Shrimp Meal Service: Service was just ok. I called in my order was told 30 mins but I arrived there in 60mins. Food was ready when I arrived. I had to ask for condiments but overall cashier was polite. Pros: Downtown Sanford (easy to find), Cute little boutique store front with indoor or outdoor seating, Cute decor, Nice size food portions, and Good food. My food was still hot after arriving 30mins later than time given. Cons: Meal price should include a drink for $15.00 for chicken and waffles. This food was absolutely terrible and overprice. I ordered a three piece chicken meal which came with two sides, on the website it said $18. I also order a side of greens which was five dollars somehow when I got to the register my total was $28 and some change. Ridiculous! I let them have that, because I've never tried their food, and was just expecting something a little better . I asked for a breast, leg and wing when I order and the girl on the phone said she doesn't know if they could accommodate that, but she'll put it in the notes.... Like what? I received a thigh wing and leg. The chicken was fried to fast. It was burnt and nothing was crispy the restaurant inside looked a mess, just dingy.... I should've known better. The mac & cheese was also dry and the yams were not fully tender. Just overall disgusting overpriced restaurant, they really should be ashamed of their selves. I didn't even finish it, threw it all away. I'm so mad I just spent $30 on this BS. We enjoyed Shantrell's. The fried chicken was crispy and moist. The vegetables were favorable. Unfortunately, the carrot cake and red velvet cake were too dry. I took them home added a few sprinkles of water, microwaved them for 30 seconds and they were wonderful. The service was attentive. When we were at Shantell's, a Reggae band was playing. It was pleasant outside. With the door opened we could hear the band. It was a wonderful evening. read more

Most of the restaurants in this area appear to be double storefronts. Shantell's appears closed as you approach and I saw several diners creep in after me equally confused with how to enter or if the place was even open. They did have live music playing out back but I decided to sit inside (more on that later). It's a young staff and the servers are not seasoned pros but they are kind and capable enough. I wanted fish but they only have tilapia and catfish (bottom feeders) so I ordered Chicken & Waffles, to later find they were out of waffle batter. They offered to go buy more if I was willing to wait. I was not, and I didn't want to put then through that either. I ordered the Fried Chicken w/ 3 sides. Mac & cheese; cheesy and delicious. Candied yams; tasty but underdone and therefore hard on the outside. Collard Greens; so refreshing to find a place that cooks them without meat. I don't eat pork and too many places knock me out with that. With that said the greens are very tasty because they are very salty which I like. I just think any other normal person would find them way too salty. Now the main event! The chicken itself has to be among the best I've ever eaten, and I'm a connoisseur. The batter was light and flavorful and the flavors continued to reveal themselves after each bite. Back to the live music outside. I overheard a waiter erroneously tell 3 women that if they sat outside a $10 entertainment charge would be added to each of their checks. You will most definitely not leave Shantell's hungry or dissatisfied . We are foodies so we ordered a variety of food and here's the breakdown. Fried Chicken: Chicken was awesome. Not overly greasy, breading on point and inside moist and delicious. Collards: Really good Jerk Chicken Philly: Interesting concept and well executed. Not overly spicy and used sweet red peppers along with a delicious sauce. Sweet tea: So much sugar and flavor. Chef's Kiss!! Okra: On point. Nothing special but 100% the way it should be Biscuit: The only thing we really didnt like. It was small and hard. Fried cornbread: My favorite thing we tried. Soooo yummy. Mac & Cheese: Good stuff. Not overly greasy and slight flavor profile of herbs on top. We enjoyed the food but don't know that it will warrant a return visit. Just had the most delicious brunch. Had originally been on our way to the brewery but they didn't open till noon. Lucky for us! We tried Shantell's on a whim. I found this place through tik tok. I was in town and finally had a chance to stop by. First this place is a vibe. Second, the staff welcomed us and was super welcoming. Lastly, the food was delicious. I ordered fried green tomatoes, 10 mild wings, fries, candied yams, Mac and cheese and the 5 piece fish fry. Split between me and a friend. We thought the 5 piece would just be 5 little pieces but no it's actually 5 fishes that are cut into pieces. We didn't know until the end. It's great food! 9/10, definitely recommend. read more

A few months back I began looking for eateries in Sanford that could become my top list of local favorites. During my preliminary search I came across Shantell's and had this feeling that I had to try it out. It seemed to have a local and prideful and somewhat eccentric aura to it. Then a couple of weeks ago, while driving home late from the marina we passed by and there were a bunch of people chilling and dancing outside of Shantell's with some reggae blasting! I immediately thought back to my initial impression of the place and said to myself "I knew I was onto something!" Last night, I had the opportunity to have dinner there and I am so glad I did! As we walked to the front, a gentleman who was by the corner talking to some officers on bicycles says "welcome!" As we enter, a lady greets us with a huge smile asking if we would like a table. My first impression was really positive. We sat and noticed there was a woman towards the back playing music and singing jazz. Live music too?! What a treat! She really had an amazing voice and was basically a singing Emcee as she also cracked jokes and spoke to the customers while performing. We started with some lemonades and sweet tea. They had a very unique taste which was unexpected. I was so curious as to why my lemonade tasted so different and ended up asking our waitress later on. She told me the secret ingredient (which I would not have guessed on my own). No I am not going to tell you LOL (unless u ask or go yourself). My Jerk chicken breast chunks on a bed of yellow rice with collard greens and corn bread was amazing. It was the perfect portion and everything tasted fresh and cooked to order. At first the jerk wasn't spicy but the more I ate the hotter it seemed to get. The chicken and waffles were also amazing. The Chicken was fried to perfection with a crispy outside and juicy/tender inside. The fried catfish was really good and easily one of best I've ever had. It didn't have that fishy taste while the breading was good and meat was fresh and tender. We had a great dinner and loved the food as well as the establishment. The only thing that I would say wasn't great was our servers lack of attention to us. I'm letting it slide because of all the positives I mentioned. Shantell's is easily one of my favorite spots in Sanford so far. We will definitely be back to try some other menu items and maybe even jam out of the sidewalk! read more

Food is phenomenal!!! I used them to cater my sister's Celebration of Life. She was so fond of their food. She would have been so very proud. While we were at the service they were setting up. Today was our first dinner out since quarantining. We drove by and there she was sitting outside. We must have looked like we had spotted Elvis. Mrs. Shantell was genuinely sweet and welcoming. She even sat with us and spoke for a while. It felt like visiting an old friend and catching up on old time. True southern hospitality in Central FL. So on to the food. We starter with tea and lemonade. By the way they serve the good ice. We ordered the fried green tomatoes. The best I've ever had. She brought over an amazing Jamaican beef patty (move over Miramar, FL Shantrell is a force to be recond with). Then, the entrée: Fish and chips (catfish), shrimp and grits (made with coconut milk), fried chicken and waffles, and jerk chicken and rice with greens. Everything was delicious. And if you don't know, she makes the healthy version of these foods. Everything is fresh. Nothing is salty or taste like preservatives. We felt satisfied and no bloating. This night at Shantells was epic!!! My sister and I were out drinking and became so hungry! We walked by Shantells and saw they were open! As we walked in there was a dj blasting hip hop music and immediately I was excited!! Our waitress greeted us with a smile and even the cool came out to talk about the menu. I knew this would be a regular spot for me after this. I ordered the fried catfish and fries which was amazing crunchy well seasoned and reminded me of someone grandma frying fish for her kids!! I visited on a Friday evening and ordered a 3pc fried chicken meal with 2 sides to-go; green beans and mac & cheese, and I was delighted with the quality of my meal and the service was great and the inside of the venue had cool art and a loving atmosphere. I definitely will recommend this to friends. The chicken was crispy and juicy, especially when paired with the signature Shantell's sauce. The green beans were seasoned to perfection, and my favorite part was the homestyle mac & cheese, so pleased I can't wait to come back again. I had high expectations for this place just cause. Honestly it was worse than I can ever imagine. The chicken was decent but one piece was a little over cooked and burnt. The Mac and cheese was over cooked and the noodles were rock hard. The yellow rice had no seasonal at all!! None at all that is crazy to me. And the last and maybe worst. A great stop in downtown Sanford! We got the fried chicken the collard greens the black-eyed beans and and cornbread. The chicken was fall off the bone and the cornbread was fluffy and light! While we ate in side you could order a to go or eat in the back yard area where sometimes they host live jazz. I was visiting my daughter in Deltona and wanted chicken and waffles for breakfast. I came upon this restaurant and decided to ignore the negative reviews and give those shot. I'm so glad that I did. The chicken and waffles were delicious. The chicken was well seasoned and fried to perfection. My grand daughter said that the chicken nuggets were amazing...she's six. To her credit they were very good and was made from chicken breast. The decor was an eclectic design and very pretty. The staff was efficient and very friendly. If you like a good home cooked southern meal and are in the Sanford area, than this place is worth checking out. My husband and I ordered the Jamaican beef patties as an appetizer. They tasted great, but were a bit greasy. I ordered the shrimp and grits and my husband had the chicken and waffles meal. Out of the two meals, I recommend the chicken and waffles. The shrimp and grits were good but not my favorite dish. This place is conveniently located near downtown Sanford. I suggest dining here if you are not in a hurry. This place was super fun and had a great atmosphere and beautiful live music going on. However, the service was SLOWWW, so unbelievably slow. We waited over an hour for our food and about 30-40 mins after our server said our food would be out soon. We went inside to ask about it and were told oh it will be right out. It was out about 10 mins later. Not only did it take forever, but they forgot my French fries and when I told the server she said that they didn't come with the sandwich. So my husband went inside to buy French fries while I pulled the menu back up. Sure enough the fries do some with the sandwich and they had to issue us a refund. Such a pain. This is a fun and lively place with very welcoming and friendly staff! The breading on the chicken is fantastic, Shantelle's sauce is incredible, and the bun and ingredients are great as well. Things to note though - the chicken was all dark meat chicken, and the French fries are thicker (more like potato wedges). The carrot cake is so fresh just delicious!! The shrimp and grits I didn't care for at all, Not seasoned enough for me and too much oil laying on top. What it's missing at almost $20 is the sausage!! I only took point off because the PRICES went up a few dollars each item!!! No one says a thing when I'm handed menu...just beware.
