The hot side of the menu had tacos, burritos, molcajetes, or you could buy a basket of the batter fried shrimp or fish. Service was fast. You order at the counter and they bring the food to you. I've driven past Sharkys for years and never stopped in. I won't make that mistake again because our tacos were delicious! We both had fish and shrimp tacos with a side of fried zucchini. The seafood was cooked perfectly, and there were a number of fresh salsas available. The avocado salsa was creamy, tangy, and spicy enough for me. Sharky's is definitely a must try on any taco tour of the city. I hadn't been for probably a couple years at this point but was in the area so I stopped by. I ordered a couple tacos al pastor and a sangria jarrito. You seriously can't go wrong with the combo, especially on a hotter day. The tacos have a good amount of filling and they always have great salsa on the side. I kinda regret not getting at least one fish taco because the sauce on that one is pretty good. One major change since the last time I had been was it looked like they had put in and then blocked off a drive-thru. Probably a Covid adjustment but now it seems to be back to walk up only. It's time for another Sharky's update. I tried my benchmark there, the fish burrito. Sadly, the quality continues to deteriorate. No longer is Sharky's putting the classic fish burrito white sauce used in Baja and SoCal. It was regular old mayo this time. It was decent, but it's nowhere near as good as what it should be and used to be. To top it off, this burrito gave me GI problems that night and the next day, which was not at all fun. I was cruising the west side looking for something new to me and almost shot past Sharky's. They have one entrance and turning around on Central is now very difficult, so if you go, pay attention! I heard Sharky's had great tacos. It has a serious "neighborhood dive" vibe. They have created outdoor seating by hanging blue tarps across the patio, and it was actually comfortable to sit there on a recent summer day. They serve beer, but I was still working, so no fun for me. Inside was a little strange. They have a cooler, which was leaking across the floor. Nobody seemed too concerned so I just stepped across the water. The place is clean, but not grandma clean, if you know what I mean. The two young people working the counter were nice, if a little distant. They suggested I try an Al Pastor taco and a shrimp taco. They have a small salsa bar with six options. I just went with the avocado salsa as that usually pairs well with both my tacos. It was tasty, but a little bland. The al pastor was disappointing. It just didn't have the citrus pop that good marinated pork should have. The shrimp was tasty and the portions were fair. You know the place is legit when it's easier to order in Spanish. Everything I tried was spectacular. The fish taco is for sure one of the best in the city. So often fish tacos are overdone or bland, this one was none of things. Perfectly crunch and lots of flavor. Their al pastor and carne asada was also excellent. Delicious fresh seafood in various forms. We really enjoyed the Terre de Mariscos, which is basically a layered pile of chunky ceviche with additional complementary flavorful textures like avocado, sauce, etc. I normally am not a fan of seafood tacos, but these were delicious with big flavorful chunks of fish in each one. We came for the first time during quarantine and while there wasn't hand sanitizer available, they had everything setup for a great outdoor dining experience and were friendly and since it wasn't very busy it didn't take long to get our food. read more

Sharky's is our absolute favorite place to eat in Albuquerque. The tacos and ceviche and bacon wrapped cheese stuffed peppers were heaven. We couldn't get enough! I only wish our return route on our road trip took us back because this place was that good. The owner is super nice. We talked and visited both nights. If you're looking for ambience this is not the place to go. However if you are looking for the best ceviche in town, run do not walk to Sharkys. We sat outside per Covid restrictions and had the ceviche plate which was so incredibly fresh and wonderful tasting. The service is fine. It's on Central closer to Coors a location I don't frequent very often but I will definitely be back. I consider myself a ceviche aficionado and I have to say this brought back memories of my living in Mexico. All I needed was a margarita and a beach towel and I would have been in heaven! Oh, Sharky's how do I love thee, Let me count the ways... While doors are being locked and sidewalks rolled up early across the city... state... country... world... Sharky's is doing its utmost to bring the world we miss right to our cars and homes. While I am actually a fabulous cook, being stuck in my own kitchen and home-office has really gotten to me. When Raz said "Let's have shrimp burritos," I was beside myself with joy of a reason to get out. I was kind of worried, though, since Sharky's underwent a renovation in the winter to install a dining room, thus eliminating the walk-up window that I used to know and love. But, desperate to get out of the house, I called ahead and ordered take-out. Imagine our amazement when we drove up to a freshly re-renovated Sharky's complete with a drive-thru! What's more, the menu had expanded since our last visit in February! Since we've managed to gather some PPE and good disinfectant in the interim, we made the foray again today to try the new Mexican Sushi. Carlos has some excellent traditional and authentic items on the menu, but the new additions are pure fusion enjoyment. We ordered the Amaterasu, Hachibi, and 505 rolls, and were joyful with every bite that we had! Amaterasu ends up being an absolute treat for the eye, dressed in the unnaturally bright red of hot-Cheetos, since one of the last steps in preparation is a roll through a pan of that particular pulverized snackfood. That dressing is a stroke of genius since it not only adds a kick of heat to the creaminess of the cheese and avocado within the roll, it also adds a little crunch and a dash of sweetness from the puffed-corn base of the Cheeto. As you can tell, this was my favorite of the three rolls. Raz's favorite was the Hachibi, since octopus is one of his most favorite things in the world. I found the roll interesting because I'd never have contemplated pairing octopus with cheese and avocado. I think the octopus had gone through a ceviche process, because it didn't have the texture I'm used to in tako nigiri. Regardless, it was an extremely plesant texture, though I lost its flavor in the mix with all the creaminess of cheese and avocado. The slight crunch of tempura breading outside the roll and the kick of spice from the chipotle mayo dressing it were also deeply enjoyable, but as I said, I liked Amaterasu better. The 505 was much like the nod to local food culture that many Sushi restaurants make, since it takes the components of a California roll and tosses in green chile, avocado, and cheese. The 505 is one-up on other local flavor sushi rolls, though, since it's tempura battered, lightly fried, and drizzled in chipotle mayo and crema. The final product is crunchy, creamy, savory, spicy, and has just the barest hint of sweetness. I should not forget, though, that each roll comes with a Chile Caribe, which is a cheese-filled, bacon-wrapped, grilled chile of awesomeness. I've been meaning to try them for years, and now I finally got to and can't believe I didn't give in to that urge sooner! All-in-all, I am so glad that Drive-up and Take-out options are available in this time of crisis, and I'm even more glad that Sharky's owner and staff are taking the risk of going to work to provide a needed service in the way of freshly prepared and amazingly flavorful food. This was our first time at Sharky's. We've spent a lot of time in Mexico and I'll say that the food we had was definitely very good. The Octopus, the ceviche, the peppers stuffed with cheese and wrapped in bacon. (Not jalapeños). Everything was good. Then we met Carlos and his staff. Talk about inviting and awesome hospitality! We learned he will be upgrading the place because they now own the property. Talk about dedication to their passion! If I wasn't so stuffed I would've tried the Sonora Dog. We finally were able to try this place after passing by many times. We were drawn to the campy look, which definitely reminds one of a seaside crab shack in Mexico. The construction of ART makes getting in to the parking lot a bit tricky, but it is worth the effort. As the COVID-19 pandemic still rages, I am hesitant to eat anywhere enclosed. Sharky's patio is open air, and spacious, allowing social distancing. All staff wore masks, as did patrons who were standing in line to order. Before going, I asked my favorite foodie friend, Brenda, what was a good bet for my first time order. "Anything," she said. "Seriously, you can't go wrong there. Although I think you should stick to seafood because, what's the point of getting a hot dog or carne asada at Sharky's?" As usual, Brenda was spot on. We went with a fish taco, shrimp taco, chile caribe, and crab tostadas. We washed it down with agua frescas. Everything was excellent. We'll definitely be back to try the torre de mariscos. My boo thang and I really enjoy this spot. Food is always yummesque and fresh. Tacos are super delicious, and there's several to choose from. Seafood is very good, too. I do wish there were more vegan options. That said, when I asked for something vegan, the chef came out and suggested some options. He created a vegan item on the fly...an avocado tostada with chopped veggies and some kind of yummy sauce on top. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is essentially a good version of a food shack. There's lots of outdoor seating. There's a huge awning covering most tables. Lot parking is available. read more

I have fond memories of our trip to Puerta Vallarta...morning walks on the beach, tropical fruits and chilaquiles for breakfast, sunshine, frolic and fish tacos by day, more walks on the beach and margaritas by night. Credible sources told me Sharky's had THE BEST fish tacos in our City...Holy Stingray Soup Batman, they were not blowin' smoke...this joint is LEGIT! Located on the North Rim o' the South Valley off of Old Coors & Central in a faux tropical setting, if I closed my eyes, blocked out the construction and traffic, I could almost hear those waves crashing....it seriously was totalmente excelente, perfectly out of the box and exactly what I was craving! The fish was so moist, crispy on the outside without being greasy whatsoever...really satisfying and filling, and yet light. The flavors were outstanding....my daughter had the fish basket, my husband and I shared fish tacos, chile caribe and a shrimp basket...wowza! The chile caribe was no ordinary jalapeno popper, oozing with cheese and a lil shrimp stuffed inside, lime juice, wrapped in bacon....off da hook!! The service was friendly, and they make everything fresh to order, so relax and enjoy the faux palm trees swaying in the wind... Next visit I plan to try the crab tostada...and the ceviche!!! First let me start by saying, THIS PLACE ROCKS!!! This place has all sorts of tacos, tostadas, etc, with your choice of filling, including numerous options for seafood (shrimp, octopus, etc)! I tried the barbacoa tacos (that's my favorite no matter where I get tacos) but I also had bites of my companions' food as well and everything was delicious. They also have things like seafood cocktail and Sonoran hot dogs - I'll definitely be back to try one of those. The service was great and it's an outdoor sort of place so you have to eat in your car if the weather is windy or bad, but they have plenty of seating outside under a nice cover so I imagine when the weather is nice, it's great to sit outside. Ceviche. Pulpo. Camarones. Jaiba. Shrimp Botanas. Bacon-wrapped stuffed yellow peppers. Order at the window and eat outdoors at sheltered picnic tables. Excellent service and food, we had the ceviche, shrimp and fish tacos and could not fault anything. I appreciate that they use only one corn tortilla rather than two, and they were not dry. The ceviche was excellent and tasted very fresh, it did not taste or smell "fishy" (neither did the tacos). Be sure to try all of the salsas and maybe a michaelada. So the small bad thing that happened. The credit card machine wasn't working right and they swiped my card 3 times which the machine charged me for. This was our first time here and our experience at Sharkey's was a 40/60 split. 40% we would go back and 60% we would not go back. Reading the menu reminded me of several restaurants we have been to in Mazatlan. But, we were surprised that they were not serving what was on their web site or on their menu. The fish in the fish baskets that we ordered was lightly battered. The fish was delicious. It tasted like fish, not batter. High point of our experience. However, we did not want fish and fries. After reading their web site what we were anticipating was jicama coleslaw and black beans to accompany our fish. There's a reason we all think of the tropics when the word vacation comes up. The coast, the islands, the surf, it's basically humanity's most perfect habitat. I'm of the philosophy that our lot in life is heavily determined by sperm lottery: from the outset, a few of us win, most of us lose, and life is simply the struggle to marginally negate our losses. Losses generally involve family dynamics and genetics, finances, and the geographic locale of our conception. God help those of us unfortunate enough to be born in Texas. The few of us that really hit the jackpot -- again, in my opinion -- have terrific, loving, wonderful parents, a ton of cash and just happen to reside on the beach. I've spent the better half of my life marginally negating my geographic losses -- growing up in the midwest -- by transplanting to New Mexico. It's not very different from the tropics, actually. Plenty of sun, a mañana mentality, delicious tacos. Well, okay, it's not exactly the same. There isn't any water, I guess. And no seafood. No beaches to speak of, unless you call that Rio Rancho. Popping a Corona on the shores of Elephant Butte doesn't really quench the palate quite right. Okay, fine, New Mexico is really a poor man's paradise. Sort of sea Spam, instead of sea bass. That's where Sharky's comes in. They honestly do kick out dishes that compete with the fish and shrimp tacos and ceviche you'd find in the tropics, at really terrific prices, and the setup is perfect: a faux-palm leaf shaded patio and picnic tables, you order from a little shanty, it takes 20-30 minutes for the goods to come out because they're really, very good, and while you wait you can gaze upon the undulating tides of Route 66 traffic, vistas of barren urban desolation, and a dry, crumbling mountain range. So it's basically like going to the beach, sans beach. Absolutely get the chile caribe: moderately spicy perfectly cooked green peppers stuffed with cheese and wrapped in bacon. Make sure a friend is sitting nearby, because juices will fly when you bite into 'em, and your friend will thank you for the momentary watery tease.
