We decided to spent our 2 nights in the area at Shell Beach Inn based on excellent Yelp reviews and the price. In a nutshell I think we got what we paid for. The location of this motel is fun. It's on the main drag in Shell Beach, within walking distance to restaurants, a park, the beach, a liquor store, and more. On the negative side, it's right across the street from the freeway...and the windows aren't very thick. Upon pulling up to the motel we found it to be cute and quaint. The owners were super friendly and we were really looking forward to our stay. The room was very small and in need of a deep cleaning. The baseboards throughout the room were gross, the panels on the bathroom door needed a wipe down, etc. And the room was very small for 2 adults and 2 children. The only thing on the window as blinds, no valance or curtains. The light coming in at night was quite intense for me. I'm glad I was downright exhausted both nights or else it would have been bad! Unfortunately I don't think we would stay here again. It's a shame because the price is great, we like the neighborhood, the owners are great, and the property is really cute. I just look forward to an awesome nights sleep on vacation, a bit of a larger room, and a cleaner room. read more

We stayed here during our road trip. We were originally going to stay at different hotel but when we arrived to the Pismo beach area saw this place called Shell Beach Inn with the vacancy sign lit. From the outside it didn't look like much but we were fatigued from driving all day and decided to check it out.. WOW! What a nice surprise. Dave was amazing when we checked in, he want above and beyond to accommodate us. We have stayed at a lot of hotels and Dave set a new standard of amazing customer service (a side note, we stayed at the Ritz Carlton the previous night and did not have near the wonderful customer service) We stayed in the "library room". The room was cozy, intimate, clean, and just perfect. We wished we could stay another day but we had to get back on the road the next morning. We will definitely stay here again in the near future. Wow. What an amazing stay. Highly recommend! Such a cute little hotel that really saved us from a horrific experience at a hotel we had booked in advance in Pismo. Their rooms are spotless and clearly newly renovated. The bed was amazingly comfortable, the shower was warm with good water pressure. They have an adorable (and clean!) little pool with little heat lamps there in case it gets chilly. We got in super late but David came out to greet us and even offered to help bring in our bags. The place is also right by the beach and still super close to Pismo so we were able to take in the sights. Shell Beach itself is also just adorable. We will definitely come back again! read more

Loved staying here! It's clean, affordable and quiet, plus Ed fills you in on the area and what there is to do. There is really no reason to pay twice the amount to stay at a chain right up the street. Another plus is that since it's so small and cozy, you can park right next to your room and not have to lug your suitcases around. Oh, and I love the retro neon sign! read more

I was browsing affordable hotels for my birthday weekend. Stumbled upon SBI and saw all the positive reviews. I originally planned on staying in Pismo, but after seeing the reviews and affordable rate, I decided to give SBI a shot. I was not disappointed. Easily found the place and made my way to the front desk. The owner Ed was extremely helpful and nice. After checking in, we made our way to the room. The room has a somewhat long, narrow hallway leading up to the main area(long for this inn). After looking around the room a bit I was pleasantly surprised at how clean everything was. The room wasn't as small as other reviewers had mentioned. It was just right. A true definition of a beach hut. The king size bed was nice and comfy. The shower and bathroom were spotless. Loved the mini fridge and microwave options as well. Its not the Hilton or anything fancy, but for me it does the job at an affordable rate! As for location, its great! Its right off the 101 freeway, but I didn't even notice the traffic noise from the room. Its on the main drag of Shell Beach, so its walking distance to many restaurants, bars, shops, etc. Its only about a 5 minute walk to cliffs that over look the ocean. You can also use the stairway down to some nice coves if you wanna get closer to the water. There's lots of benches for a nice view of the sunset or for lunch by the beach. If Shell Beach isn't your thing, Pismo is a minute down the road, or Avila to the north. Overall I had a great experience! Will definitely stay here again! I highly recommend to anyone! read more

What a gem! Decided to plan a weekend getaway with the girlfriend and was looking for a decently affordable place near the beach. It was really straight forward and simple making the reservation on the website. When we got there, the owner was super friendly and fast in checking us in. The lot houses 7 rooms, 7 parking spots and has a swimming pool to the side. The room itself was pretty neat, old school vintage decor with a TV, free Wi-Fi, standard amenities and a HEATER in the bathroom. It was cold when we went so that was definitely a plus. What really makes this place great is that it's literally 5 minutes away from the most breath taking sunset view you could imagine. I believe that area was called Turtle Cliffs, something like that. It's also 2 blocks away from the best breakfast place in the Pismo Beach area, Zorro's! I think I impressed my gf with this one. Would highly recommend. read more

I loved this place so much. From the hospitality and general niceness of the couple who owns it (they answered all of our questions) to the way we booked same day at a phenomenal price. Swimming pool and everything! Staying here was like having our own little studio apartment for the night. It was like having a little artist's retreat. Maybe it was because we just happened to have nice weather, when Pismo is known for its foggy overcast days, maybe because we were nearing the end of our vacation, but it was the relaxing do-nothingness days and drawn out, no time frame, languid dinner that made us want more. we walked to the beach and in the evening bought a local bottle of wine and listened to music until we were ready to find a local Italian joint to have dinner. In the morning I got up and wrote while watching the sun rising over the ocean and then we swam. It was rustic bliss! read more

We just stayed at this lovely inn for the 4th of July weekend and absolutely loved our stay. Owners Jodi and Dave were wonderful and generous. They treated all the guests like we were a part of their family. Their hospitality was far more than what we would've ever expected. We stayed in room #1. The room was nicely decorated, clean and it offered plenty of space for our family of four. The location of the inn is perfect and within walking distance to a nearby park, restaurants, the beach and centrally located between Pismo Beach and Avila Beach. Loved the room! The style was adorable and it is so well priced. $110 for a king sized bed room and full bathroom. Bowling, shopping, grocery stores, parks, beach, and candy store was all within 15 of the location. Front desk woman checked me in quickly and WiFi worked well. The from t desk smelled a little like someone smoked in there but hey it's not my business. She allowed us 2 cars and for me to keep my car there all day after check out. We love Pismo and have a hotel we always stay in. We wanted to try something new and are so glad we did. This was a wonderful hotel in many ways. The owners (a wide/husband team) are so friendly and welcoming, treating you like you just checked into a bed and breakfast in their home. We stayed in the suite and it had the most fantastic couch and big screen TV, we had trouble getting out to enjoy the great location. The hotel is right next to an amazing park, the new Cape Cod restaurant and walking distance to the beach of course. It was so nice to have a full kitchen (with another TV) so we could eat in for some of our meals. The room was clean, new and had some great touches you won't find at a chain hotel. i am not sure what to share with amazement first! Ill start with the absolute friendliness of the owners (blows my mind being used to L.A., Orange County and Palm Springs "people") they were so nice , joking, spent 15-20 explaining and showing us the good places to eat, where to go, what to see- this after we asked to check in and hour early. I could spend this whole review talking about them and how cool they are- but would like to mention that when we returned from a friends boat(late) they had been waiting to give us a bottle of wine from a local vineyard they had procured for us (let me say it was outstanding wine!) they said they thought we would enjoy the wine, so thoughtful I was floored with disbelief- in a good way! Location: Is awesome good spot quiet neighbourhood, so close to shell beach maybe 1 1/2 city blocks, great views. You do hear some road noise in the morning during the weekdays, but otherwise minimal, much less than the higher priced places that are right on the main drag! Safe neighbouhood, friendly people. You can walk to about 4 restaurants in about 5-10 minutes, liquor store and deli a few minutes away. Ooooh and a nice clean warm pool that is open late, your own parking spot right in front of your room or very close (ours was right at our door) Rooms: classic 50's style layout updated a little bit- nice bed, new paint, clean bathroom (with a window Wow!), cable dvd/tv, desk, fan and a heater Ed & Daisy are awesome. we only stayed here for one night, but the next day we both decided that pismo, you're so yesterday. we are now staying here for future stays when in the area. the night before we stayed at a motel in pismo that was, at best, horrifying. to make up for the scary room(seriously i slept on my beach blanket - i refused to touch the bed as much as i could) my fiance found this room by recommendation of a friend. the owners are a really nice couple who maintain the motel (they really do look like little adorable beach cottages) nicely. we got a king bed for under $90 - with the location that's a steal people! there is a heated pool & at the end of the street there's a stairway leading down to the beach (tide pools & awesomeness). it's not a place where you'll have to fight crowds, so that 's a huge plus. the room doors are locked with a key not a card key which i thought was a nice retro touch (even the keychain are those plastic vintagey motel ones). the rooms themselves are so nice - the carpeting actually felt plush, CLEAN & nice on my feet. they're decorated with a beachy shabby chic feel to them & you can tell there's a lot of love & thought that went into the room. i felt like i was in a guest room, actually. the shampoo/conditioner is bath & body works (details, details). as for the traffic noise, i heard nothing - i slept like a baby but then again, i was boozing it up with the buddies ;) oooh! the beds are super comfortable! no joke. honestly, i dont know how one could give this place less than 5 stars. i didnt think it was outdated at all! also, a sidenote. do walk next door to shell liquor & deli - you wont be sorry. the deli is delish! read more

wow this place is horrible and dishonest! when i booked this place online, the pictures looked decent. let's give the photographer credit for some creative angles to make the place look a lot bigger than it actually is. aside from the illusion of larger size, the rooms looked the same as the pictures. when we got there, the lady at the front desk didn't even have my reservation! i had my confirmation # and everything, but she said it wasn't on her books. she ended up offering us a "deal" - she had 1 room available for each of the 2 nights, but we had to switch rooms the next day. as if this wasn't annoying enough, she charged me more than what i had originally booked it for online! some deal, lady!! the lady was rude and never even apologized! horrible "customer service". when we got to the rooms itself, they were small and very shabby. in addition, the parking lot doesn't even have enough spaces as there are rooms, what's up with that?!! there was one spot open, and we thought we were so lucky. the next morning we found out why nobody parked there. our car was literally, and i am not exaggerating, covered in bird crap. when we parked the car, it was gold/tan colored, but the next morning it was white/green on the passenger side. the door handle was covered in poo, so i had to climb in from the driver's side, gah! read more

We came from Kingsburg, Ca to Shell beach for a wedding on April 21, 2017 and found this gem of a place. It reminded us of the movie Niagara Falls with Marilyn Monroe as we returned after the wedding. People were sitting outside of their rooms with there doors open and talking to one another. It was wonderful! It's managed by James and his wife. Who are very accommodating . It's very clean, It didn't have a ceiling fan but did have a tall floor fan. It's very reasonably priced. Location was nice. Walking distance to a popular restaurant (Zorro's ) and many more eating establishments. You won't be disappointed if you book your stay at Shell Beach Inn. read more

I loved this place! My husband and I were celebrating our 2nd wedding anniversary there and were intoxicated by the breathtaking stretch of coastline. The fact that the motel had a nice little pool, friendly and super helpful innkeepers and clean, comfortable room just made our special getaway that much more intimate. It was quiet at night which made our evenings very romantic and enjoyable. I recommend this place mostly for couples, just because of the quiet and quiant setting.
