I would give this a higher rating but it's super hit or miss, you will either have some perfect delicious saucy food or it will be too dry, they will forget something or it just won't be right in some way, service is amazing and they will always fix the problems as well as possible, ambiance is decent nothing special. I will never patronize the Shell Shack ever again. On August 5th I took 3 of my out of town guest to the Plano location, our server never wrote down any of our orders and he totally screwed our orders up. I was full after eating my appetizers so I asked the server Joshua to wrap up my VIP boil to go. When one member of my group who received lemon pepper complained that her food was too spicy he corrected her order. I said to him are you sure that I do not have her order because I orders the spicy kitchen sink. He assured me that my order was correct. Well wouldn't you know the next day I went to eat my food and it was lemon pepper. I immediately called and spoke to Nigel, manager who said he would refund me for their mishap after a week I was never credited so I called and spoke to Jamel, who assured me my credit card would be credited, today, I still have not been credited. I called their corporate office, Mike voice mail is full and the phone hang up on you. No way to contact anyone at their corporate office. I paid $115.00 for my food and provided a tip for the horrible service. Since Shell shack won't admit their mistakes and make good for their servers mistake I will never patronize their establishment again. And to think I took my out of town guest here. In total we spent close to $400 and their manager will not contact me. I still have receipts and document every phone call with name, date and time that I have reached out to them. We LOVE this place!!! Jordan the host is always SOO friendly & helpful! They are always busy so be prepared to wait a little, busy is a good sign thou! We love sitting with Chandler, she's always so attentive and entertaining. ALWAYS ask for her and you will never have a bad service experience! This was not what I expected for my first experience here today. I went to Shell Shack Plano. It was packed with people. I decided to do online take out. First thought was that it must be good because there were so many people here. Wrong.The price for The Boss platter was $27.99. I asked if half of the shrimp could be buffalo. They didn't do it. It was supposed to come with two tarter sauce. Thy only gave me one. No hushpuppies even though it was supposed to be included. I thought they would do curbside. They didn't. I ordered a pound of snow crab in kitchen sink medium. Not good at all. I spent over $80 plus gave a tip to be nice even though it was before I tried the food. Never again. I absolutely love crawfish so when I saw Shell Shack near me I HAD to try it out! When you walk in you see the menu written all over the chalk board walls so if you don't see what you're looking for on the menu that you are handed don't be confused! Look at the walls because they have pricing by pound of different things like crawfish, snow crab, shrimp, king crab, etc. When it comes to pricing I will say it is pretty expensive, but where is seafood not expensive? My usual order a pound of crawfish or shrimp flavored with "the kitchen sink" with the heat rating as "hot". The kitchen sink is the perfect combination of all the different flavors and it is their most popular. I loved it so I would definitely recommend it! First visit to the Shell Shack. This place rocks. We sampled a pound of the Bairdi Carb, with the Kitchen Sink boil, and medium heat. The crab meat was tender and sweet, with just the right amount of heat. We also added the sausage to the crab boil and it was absolutely fantastic. Full service bar, and for Sunday lunch Dominic room great care of us. Sunday funday drink prices are discounted $1. I would highly recommend this place for anyone who loves shellfish. 3Lbs of crawfish ordered "Hot" it was absolutely a 0 on a heat scale. Tabasco, as trashy as it is has more flavor than their "Hot". As my overwhelming disappointment was just to much to handle, I asked for the "Diablo" seasoning because the hot wasn't cutting it. What they brought out was absolute trash. 1Lb of peel n eat shrimp, absolutely disgusting! Again, no flavor, and it was so overcooked that I was tearing the the shrimp removing the shells. It was absolute garbage here. 2 bloody mary's were ordered not consistent between the two bloody mary's that were ordered. And no garnish either time. I was surprised to walk in and see that this place was super busy on a weekday afternoon, which is a pretty good sign. We placed our order for take out and got the crab legs and the crawfish. I didn't have too high of expectations for a seafood spot in the middle of Texas, but boy, did this place totally blow my mind. The seafood was piping hot and the portions were pretty decent enough for 4 people. It was drenched in seasoning, which was salty, savory and spicy perfection. We poured out the extra dripping sauce and used it to dip our corn and potatoes into. I just left! Worst service ever! Went to the bar. Made eye contact with bartender, but still ignored me. I waited 15 minutes, before he even approached me. He didnt greet me. Love the inside. The shrimp was ok. It didn't have any seasoning. I know there's sauce but I didn't feel the flavors coming through. I got hot and the kitchen sink. It was ok. They don't devein their shrimp so I was kinda grossed out by that. I had to devein my own. I can see where they cut the shrimp where the vein is but vein still there. Sign. Signature drinks are good. Writing an update as I've been going here a lot more since my initial review, and feel they've earned that extra star. I've never had better flavored seafood than I have at Shell Shack. Lemon Pepper Medium is my go-to. I've had a chance to try a couple other flavors but I always come back, because lemon just compliments seafood so well. From time to time, I vary my order slightly..maybe order some shrimp or some crawfish when they're in season, but usually sticking to my pound of crab sends me home happy. I used to always get the snow crab but recently one of the waiters suggested I try the Bairdi crab, which I'd never heard of before, but man am I happy I did! I like that this option is 1.25 pound instead of just a single pound. If I had a single critique for Shell Shack, it's that I can't really order 1.5 pounds because 1 pound of crab is just a little less than I'd like to eat, so I always find myself adding extras. The Bairdi crab, as I mentioned, is sold at 1.25 pounds, perhaps the shell is just thicker but I find that the meat is very sweet and it's actually easier to get it out of the shell than the snow crab. If you like snow, definitely try the Bairdi! Shrimp does come in its shell (but not the heads) so you have to peel them, but they're always huge! So like I said, I always add something extra. Broccoli or corn or something else, it'll come out in that bag of delicious sauce which makes it really easy to eat your vegetables! Sometimes I come here when I'm doing the keto diet thing (low carb) and I just load up on crab and broccoli and it's delicious. You must try the hush puppies. I LOVE shell shack's hush puppies! I've also had the gator which is also amazing, and their fries are pretty good (my husband gets the burger and fries since he doesn't do seafood, and we both really like their fresh cut fries) The service has been impeccable every time we've been since my original review. Very friendly waitresses who check on you often, which is great because I make a huge mess when I eat here. Stopped by on the way out of town after celebrating Mother's Day and was craving some crab. The staff was pleasant considering the size of the crowd and time. I received the order promptly and hit the road to the next destination. When the bag was opened and the legs were sampled we were disappointed and left hungry. The scale must have beef incorrect because a small child would have not had enough to constitute a meal. 70$ and still hungry? I'm thinking the supply was dwindling and the business Wes making the limited stock last at the sacrifice of the agreement on quantity. Came in on a Saturday evening and was blown away! First of all just know that yes, there will be a wait and yes it may be long, but trust me it is all worth it!!! We came for the first time and Tre, our server was amazing. He taught us how everything worked and was attentive with us all night. The atmosphere is also very laid back and it's a good size space and they also have outdoor seating right next to their big promo truck. We started off with the Calamari and it was the best that I've had.... ever. It is seasoned to perfection and you get a great portion for the cost. So for our main entree we ordered a pound of shrimp, a pound of snow crab and had it done mild kitchen sink style with potatoes, corn and sausage added. It was amazing!!! Not only the food but the seasoning as well. It makes everything that much better. Just know that you will get messy which is why they give you a bib and gloves. This will definitely be our go to place for crawfish! We went on a Friday night about 630pm and met some friends. There was no wait at this time. All the staff we came into contact with were so friendly! Our waiter Joshua was amazing! We knew pretty much what we wanted to try but he helped with recommendations and the best seasonings. I did take off all my jewelry and used the gloves but I forgot to roll up my sleeves so Joshua was a doll and rolled them up for me since my hands were a delicious sloppy mess. I would love to visit this place once a week and try everything. The establishment appeared clean and kept up. The restrooms were also nice and clean.
