Don't wast your time. We were excited to see something new come in around our house and went on Saturday around noon to try it out. The restaurant was about 1/3 full and most everyone already had their food. We we're seated immediately and told our sever would be right over. After about 5 minutes no one showed up. I asked the guy who sat us if he could send our server over. He said sorry that she was in the back putting in orders and he would be glad to get us a drink. We ordered water and regular tea which he brought but brought sweat tea. 5 minutes later still no server. I asked him if we had a server and again he apologized and said he would check on her. Also asked for regular tea. Multiple other tables had been seated since we arrived and many had drinks and orders in. At 20 minutes still with no server ever seen we walked out. Told the guy at the front in the way out that he missed a big check because we were going for the king crab. The Monday following our experience here, my friend called Shell Shack to inform them of our experience. She spoke with a manager who, after hearing about our experience said "Next time let us know right away," and that she would have the general manager contact us. It's going on two weeks later and we have heard nothing back. I would advise management here that "Next time", have some sort of presence in the dining area during peak times. And if for some reason you can't (I know managers sometimes have to fill for absent employees), don't have the audacity to try to extend the blame to your paying customer. I waited for a table for 40 minutes and had to ask for condiments three times. I didn't have much hope of having a manager summoned in a timely manner, and we were ready to GO. Don't fault your guests who are too exhausted by their dining experience to hunt for you. We paid our bill and tipped our server 20% each. The next time you have a customer throw a fit, make a scene, or demand their meal be comp'd, perhaps you will appreciate paying customers like us enough to call us back. I anticipated that I would be able to update my previous review with a higher star review after we were contacted. I guess not. Next time take your customers seriously. read more

I normally never write reviews but this place was just so good I had to write my first one! Me and a friend went to try it out since we were craving seafood and it happened to be near where she worked. From the moment we walked in, the staff was very friendly and welcoming! Our server, Chris, was probably the best server I've ever had. Even when it got busy, he managed to stay attentive and whenever we needed anything, it was there in seconds whether he brought it or any of the other awesome staff did. Having been a server myself for some years, I know that can be hard to do when it's busy but he did great! We had a few questions about the menu but he was patient with us and knew his stuff. He even let us know about this awesome automatic hand washer that's a must try if you go! Now for the food, everything tasted great! Drinks were good, food was great. I've never gone to the one in uptown but now that there's one closer to me, I definitely had to make it out. Of course the one day I go, it's Fat Tuesday and everyone else is also wanting to celebrate. We had to wait for about an hour before we got seated, but I was able to get their frozen hurricane special while waiting. Delicious and you can actually taste the alcohol (which a lot of places seem to barely put any alcohol in their drinks). For how busy it was, I was impressed by the service and the quality of the food. I got a pound of crawfish which normally is pretty minimal since crawfish barely has any meat anyways but the portion size was larger than I thought and I only got a few small pieces. I got the kitchen sink seasoning which was really good but so salty! I had to down a couple of glasses of water which luckily, our server was really good about refilling without us asking several times. Compared to other places like Boiling Crab and Tasty Tails, I probably like Boiling Crab the best but Shell Shack is definitely not a bad alternative. I can easily spend 50 dollars in this fine establishment. One word they understand is fresh. Be it the crab, crawfish, corn or potatoes, every bite is amazingly fresh and perfectly boiled. I would recommend going with a "kitchen sink" + hot combo of seasoning. It's hard to describe what happens when you jam your corn into a pile of kitchen sink and take a bite. The staff is super cool and if you are worried about dirty hands, don't be. They have one of those hand cleaner things. Best place in DFW for crustaceans in my opinion. read more

Got a togo order. Worst fried shrimp ever. They were not cleaned properly, luke warm, dried out & old tasting with NO batter on them. Whoever heard of fried shrimp with no batter? Horrible Horrible Experience!!! We went last night for our weekly family dinner outing. Being a Monday it was not packed.....From the beginning, the service was horrible we were seated for 5 mins and no one came to our table. I ask a waiter passing by where was our waiter... He pointed over to the waitress in the corner chit chatting with her co workers. He took our drink order and she eventually brought the order out. I've had Yelp for a while, this is my first review. I've driven by this place a dozen times, this is my first visit...and I love this place. Jordan greeted me with a hearty welcome at the door and Amy took good care of me. She filled me in on all the goods and was present at the right breaks during my wrestling match with a pound of crab to refill my Revolver Blood & Honey. The kitchen sink seasoning - awesome. The automatic hand washer - more awesome. I love crab and my wife hates it when I make it at home because it stinks - my cooking and the smell of boiled crab. When you find that place you know it! And trust me yall this is it! A little pricy but without a doubt so worth it! Been three times now since opening and there is nothing bad on the menu. Shrimp is amazing! King crab is the best though! Sides somewhat lacking but not too bad at all, get the fries they are a little sweet, little salty, real damn good! The flavors are amazing too! My hubby got the fried catfish with fries, $11 for just one large, very fishy, fillet. So some friends of ours that live in Plano said we had to try this place. I really didn't want to go cross the border for seafood, but they said it was totally worth it. The place is new and in a strip center with some other eateries that were not opened yet. The place has a sports bar type of feel. Chalkboards on all the walls and TV's within view for everyplace you sit. It has a nice big patio for those couple of days a year that its not too hot or too cold to sit outside. The place has a full bar so that is a huge plus! I ordered a pound of snow crab in the kitchen sink sauce with potatoes and corn. My friends had the buffalo chicken sandwich and buffalo shrimp. Odd choices but who am I to judge. The food came out within a reasonable amount of time and the service was great. It wasn't just a bunch of big boobed women who didn't know anything, but servers who actually knew something about seafood. All I can say is that crab legs were amazing and if you like spicy then definitely get the kitchen sink sauce! The potatoes were down perfect and the corn couldn't have tasted better. This is our first time here. I love the atmosphere of the Shell Shack. Foods are tasty. Especially our waiter, Dominic is very nice guy. He is helpful, happy and friendly. We ordered 1 dozen of half shell oyster, 1 order of Alligator tender, 1 pound of Bairdi crabs, one pound of King crabs to mix with the "kitchen sink sauce". 1 pound of grilled shrimp. Disappointed Ordered Mother's Day meal at 5:20pm with a pickup time of 6:05pm. Arrived at the Plano, TX location to now stand in a line with 20+ customers also doing a pickup. Employee comes out to say if you have a pickup order it's approximately 30-45 minutes behind schedule. I requested to cancel my order and was told they can cancel but I would have to contact their corporate office for my refund. Ridiculous. So I went back to my car to address this issue on their complaints website while also trying to social distance from the line outside the restaurant. Long story short, I received my order at 7:24pm with no apologies, no compensation and no response from their corporate office. Lesson well learned....Never again! By the way, also disappointed with food as it was extremely salty but knew it would be a waste to take it back and wait another 2 hours. read more

However, today, I went with my brother & we ordered calamari, 1 lb snow crab, 4 lb crawfish, 1 lb shrimp, corn and potatoes. Lemme tell you - we both rolled out of there we were SO STUFFED. 4 stars for the quality and taste 1 star for the server 'Shane" The waiter definitely had a complex with African American women. I guess if I was any other nationality or had my breast on display, maybe the level of service would have been better. I personally saw that he provided more thorough and prompt service for other tables he waited on (and they were not AA) but what's worse, Shane is African-American. We over heard him refer to himself as the 'Russian Cowboy' -interesting. It was a huge disappointment however the food satisfaction slightly curbed the poor service we experienced. I went back last night with a friend. I asked if the Oysters were are bigger than last time and our waiter said no. So, I ordered the fried Shrimp. They were very large and cooked perfectly. This Diablo is oh so devilish! In some cases, when an eatery uses the term devilish or Diablo to describe how searingly hot a dish is, it falls short. Well, that is not the case at Shell Shack. Came in here at peak time on a Friday, around lunchtime and let me say, parking was an issue but expected. Walked by Torchy's, which had a line out the door, don't get that and over to Shell Shack, which was pretty full but not overstuffed with patrons. Sat at the bar and was quickly greeted by bartender, who handed me a menu. She also took my drink order and I ordered a pound of shrimp with kitchen sink flavor and Diablo. Added a bowl of gumbo for good measure. Not 10 minutes later, food arrived, paid tab and I was off. Shrimp were in a giant plastic bag complete with all their liquids and looked amazing. Took a whiff from the bag and knew immediately they were scorching hot, a big plus. Actually started on the gumbo and it was quite good. A nice mix of sausage, rice, chicken and the like, good flavor, a nice way to start the meal. Then, I decided to tackle the shrimp. Poured them in a huge bowl and dripped sauce over them and man, did they look hot. Clumps of the seasoning stuck to the shells, so I grabbed my first shrimp, peeled it and had a taste. Man, it was absolutely amazing. A slow searing heat that didn't hit me at first but once the back heat kicked in not long after eating my first shrimp, it is definitely no joke. I repeated this process countless times and yes, there was a point where the cumulative effects of the heat almost made me stop for a minute, I said almost. Finished the pound and must say I was quite impressed. Those shrimp packed a serious punch. Will be back, next time to try maybe the Buffalo Shrimp and their Clam Chowder. read more

We ordered one pound of crawfish (at 8.99 a pound), and 3 potatoes, 3 sausages & 2 corns total was 15.39. Calamari was $10 6 wings was $6. Calamari was over cooked but the flavor was good. Wings had lemon pepper seasoning instead of being lemon pepper wing (there's a difference). Onto the crawfish they were a nice size but didn't seem like a pound. I asked my husband if they weighed the crawfish with the potatoes corn and sausage we ordered lol. First time in and had a great experience! I don't usually seek out this kind of cuisine but based on recommendations from my boyfriends coworkers we decided to check it out for date night. Definitely a good choice! We had the calamari and oysters to start - I've had better of both. The calamari was pretty basic but all of the sauce accompaniments with both dishes were tasty. For dinner we had a pound of shrimp and Baird crab (a special they were running - not on the menu) served "kitchen sink" style. I loved the presentation of the dish being brought out in the bad and poured at the table. It's definitely some work to eat but I love to play with my food so it was fun learning how to crack the crab the best way and getting messy. The icing on the cake was our server Chris Strong. He walked us through the menu only after making sure our mixed drinks were on the table. He also took the time to put on gloves and give me a demonstration on how to shell the meat on the legs. Poor guy, I flung juice into his eye and made a horrible joke about it but he was a good sport and continued to be attentive. He also had us get an industry "dog tag" for a discount on drinks for service industry workers that can be used at both locations. Overall, it was a great date night and we will be back! I was introduced to this place when my boyfriend and I visited his parents in Allen. His parents frequently go to the Uptown Shell Shack, so it was all our first times at this location. The environment is really neat, with chalkboard writing everywhere and it really sets the mood for the food! Our party consisted of 4 people and we ordered 3lbs of shrimp, 2lbs of snow crab, and since they just got crawfish (even though it's not in season anymore), 1lb of crawfish. All kitchen sink flavor with the level of hot. The spiciness level was PERFECT. My boyfriend's parents said they've tried the diablo and it was unbearable. With the hot, you can enjoy the food with a kick. The kitchen sink flavor was a new thing to me. When I usually order crawfish elsewhere, I always get garlic butter flavor, but the kitchen sink is so gooooood. We also ordered a couple of bloody mary's, which is probably one of the best I've had, but unfortunately it doesn't come garnished with olives or anything else. They have some local beers on tap, but I didn't try them. The only complaint I have is that their crawfish is on the smaller side, but that's understandable since they're not in season anymore. However, I will definitely come back when visiting Dallas. I wish there was one in San Antonio! Oh, and they have the coolest hand-washing station ever. read more

I came to this place when they first open. It's sad to see how rude management and waitstaff have become. The food used to be high-quality now they serve low quality seafood and the flavors are so blah. One person in my party was allergic to seafood and could not eat here, but ordered a drink and also had a bag of chips and queso that they brought which they were taking home for take out. Please do not bring your family here as if you have to feed a baby or you are a diabetic with special food needs this is not a place for you. Saw this place while driving South on the Dallas North Tollway this past weekend. Looked it up online once I had arrived at my destination and added it to my list of places to try...especially since they're open until 2 a.m. nightly. After seeing "Insidious: Chapter 3" (which was awesome), it was late and I decided to get some quick to-go food on the way home. Shell Shack, you're up! Since I was less than ten minutes down the tollway from them, I decided to call my order in advance so I could get in and out quickly once I arrived. The employee on the phone quickly informed me that she needed my credit card number before she could place the order. Excuse me? What?! Are you delivering my food? Are you closing 90 minutes early on a Friday night? Does your catfish basket cost $100? There was no explanation for this other than, "It's our policy." Not only was this ridiculously unnecessary, but I was also driving (don't freak out; I have OnStar), which made it impossible. I almost decided to go elsewhere at that point, but was close and it was an intriguing option for late night dining. So, I get there and the place isn't busy at all. Not a great sign, but it was Friday night so it could have been a coincidence. The hostess greeted me promptly and was very friendly. She directed me to the bar when I told her I wished to order take-out. The bartender was cleaning the area (a positive) and promptly greeted me before going back behind the bar to assist me. When I told her I wanted to place an order for take-out, she immediately said, "Catfish basket?" This is obviously the person with whom I had previously spoken. After challenging their policy a few minutes earlier, I was expecting tension but was pleasantly surprised at her friendly demeanor. She took the order and payment and I waited for the order to be filled. It arrived in about seven minutes. The food smelled really good in the car and I couldn't wait to eat it. I hot home and dug in and it was TREMENDOUSLY dissapointing. It was hot and fresh, but, unfortunately, Shell Shack joins a list of other places that apparently do not believe in seasoning their catfish. I may as well have been eating the container the food was placed in. There was just no flavor at all. The fries were decent, but, sadly, that was the highlight of the meal. Between their weird take-out policy and the bland catfish, I'm not sure I'll return...especially with Pappadeaux 2 minutes down the road. The staff was very friendly, and I'd advise others to give them at least one chance based on that alone. 2.5 stars rounded up due to late hours, restaurant cleanliness, and friendly staff. read more
