Let's start off with the food. It was overall pretty good. My husband grew up in the FL panhandle so he is always hesitant to try "inland" seafood. He said it was some of the best he has had so that's saying something! Now...onto everything else. 1. Service wasn't great-Our waitress seemed completely bored being there, when we asked her to explain how it works she acted annoyed and she never once came to fill up our drinks during our meal. 2. The handwashing station is really cool...if you know about it-That is a big perk of this place! The handwashing station gets all the stuff off your hands (and from under your nails) in a matter of seconds. Our waitress didn't tell us about it at all. I had to ask her where it was because I saw it on Yelp! You should promote it! 3. Please bring wet wipes-while the handwashing station gets your hands clean, my husband and I each had to use about 15 napkins to get the inital stuff off our hands. A wet wipe would be appreciated. 4. Lemon-lemons with seafood should be mandatory IMO. I'm sure we could have asked for them but they should come with the meal. Being we are in a land locked area, I get that seafood options here in suburbia are limited. Having been born and raised in New Orleans, I do have a certain standard for seafood. If fried seafood platters with fried shrimp or fried catfish fillets are your jam, this is a solid place to go. If you want a seafood boil that is given to you in a bag doused in an oily sauce like some (honestly I have never seen seafood boiled prepared this way until I left NOLA) , I'd consider this place spot on. I ordered 1 lb of shrimp boil to go, and if you want any of the traditional corn/potatoe/surcharge, it's an additional add-on. The shrimp was given with no heads on them- so I get people don't eat the heads, but let the consumer take care of peeling and de-heading their own shrimp...seeing it headless makes me question whether the shrimp was simply frozen shrimp cooked from a bag. . If you are used to a traditional NOLA shrimp boil, this is not the place. The sauce was savory, but very oily and messy. This place definitely fits the stereotype of a DFW suburban restaurant in terms of the look and clientele, and the fact it's a chain. I had a hankering for a shrimp boil but recognize it's better to just do it myself boiling fresh shrimp in a boil mixture like Zatarain's. Glad I tried it as it's a one and done for me. read more

I've been coming to this Shell Shack for at least 2 years, i was very let down tonight, first me and my lady placed an order online and was not notified via text or other notification that my food was ready. The part that was disappointing was my shrimp was overcooked, super hard and stiff to be exact. To be honest I really think it was already cooked and they re-heated it and sold it to us, and we eat enough seafood to notice the difference. We took a $50 loss over some re-cooked shrimp and to add insult to injury you can't call to voice your complaints, I should have went with my first mind and went to Red Claw, if i dont receive a response, I'll know they dont care about their customers. read more

Pretty good crab with the works for butter sauces. I got the 'kitchen sink' which consisted of lemon pepper, garlic & Cajun bitter sauces. Corn & potatoes - medium spice heat on Snow Crab. I can't believe that this place only has 3 stars right now! I know they just opened but they deserve more credit. I noticed other reviews complained about the wait staff; however, we had an outstanding service experience. Our waiter Chris S. was by far one of the best waiters we have ever had since living in Dallas. That says a lot because we eat out frequently. He was extremely helpful and explained every item on the menu since it was our first time. He was friendly and very prompt in refilling drinks and attending to us. I could not have asked for a better server and that is what makes the difference between coming back or going somewhere else for crawfish. The crawfish were really flavorful and I loved the seasoning. Those of you that love boiling crab, ok it is no boiling crab or tasty tails BUT you won't be disappointed and if you live in the area, this is a great alternative. I got the seasoning that was basically a combination of garlic and the flavors (whatever that was called). We will definitely be back to this location. read more

The calamari was amazeballs and the Cesar salad was decent. But, let's go back to those fries. Oh my. Hello wonderful, crispy sticks of potato, that are generously tossed in impeccable spices. The spices they sprinkle on top of the fries, I swear, came down from heaven. These fries are better than Wingstop. Don't forget to ask them for ranch and dip those delicious fries in them! Visited with a friend on 9/14/2022. The food was excellent. However, the experience was terrible. When we sat down, we asked what the current market price for the VIP bag was...we were told it was $40. Sounds great. We will take it. Then we asked what the happy hour specials were...and were told to look at the website. There was no information about happy hour pricing anywhere on the website or in the restaurant. Typically happy hour is 50% off so because the server was unable to answer our question, we proceeded to order 5 of the cheapest cocktails ($8). Once we got our check, the VIP bag was $75 and the drinks were not discounted as happy hour drinks. After speaking to the manager about our $140 bill, he was able to let us pay the $40 we were originally quoted for the VIP bag (with the difference coming out of the servers check). He said that he could not do anything about the happy hour drinks so I will be speaking to corporate about the lack of information presented to the team and customers about what Happy Hour Specials truly consist of. Menu could use a couple more non-seafood items so that the seafood lovers can drag our spouses and friends there that aren't fans. Happy to have a place north of frankford off tollway with crab legs, crawfish, and boiled shrimp. Place has too many tall tops making it seem more like a bar but I personally would rather a short table for crab n crawdads. There aren't good looking servers yet like every other place that's catering to a bar atmosphere, so hopefully in time the scenery improves. Kitchen sink seasoning could use a little more original flavoring and temps on spice were low, so up a grade from whatever you normally prefer.hot was like medium. Overall meal was decent. I'd give it more stars for a rare joint with shelled seafood. King crab $30/lb, snow crab $25, shrimp $15, dungeness $18. I would go back but unless you're a seafood lover the quality won't bring you back likely. But for crab shrimp or crawfish lovers it's a convenient spot but not on the cheap side. read more

Growing up near the coast, I know what good seafood is. After seeing high reviews of this place, I decided to give it a go. We came here on a Thursday night. The place was pleasantly packed. I had high hopes for Shell Shack, especially the oysters. First off, this place was very clean. It is not a seafood shack whatsoever, but the concept is there. The staff was also very friendly and helpful. We ordered a bowl of gumbo and clam chowder to start off. Both were pretty good. The gumbo was on the saltier side compared to the other gumbos I had, but it was not too bad. The clam chowder was nice. Then came the seafood. The shrimp was not bad. They tasted pretty fresh and had a ton of flavor. The oysters were not good. They were not terrible by any means, but just not good. The oysters weren't too fresh in my opinion, it was alright, but the sand was unbearable. I love seafood, but hate when there's sand in it. I can tolerate some grittiness here and there, but clusters of sand? No. Unfortunately, some of the oysters we had was full of sand chunks. I was disappointed. Overall, this place is alright. The prices are a little high for what you get. I wouldn't recommend getting oysters here. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. I will never eat at shell shack ever again. The management their is HORRIBLE. I am the type of customer who never has a problem with paying for ANYTHING. I've paid $95 for nails before, but when I'm being treated badly that's when there is a problem. When I go to shell shack I always order the buffalo shrimp. The last time I went the shrimp were soggy and didn't taste like they usually did. So I asked if they could make it over and just fry them a little extra crispy or a little long. The manager sent our waiter back to my table and had him tell me they wouldn't remake it. I ate 3 shrimp and I was not at all satisfied. So I asked to speak to the manager and he got VERY UGLY with me. I asked him multiple times if they could remake my order and he continuously told me no. So I said I would not pay for this meal. I was not satisfied and and I was being treated like dirt. I had taken 3 bites out of my food! So he threatened to call the police on me, which he ended up doing. The police came and I was forced to pay for food I'd barely ate and I vowed to NEVER eat their again. If a customer is unhappy about ANYTHING, their needs should be catered too because at the end of the day I'm spending MY money. I would not suggest that anyone eat at this restaurant because the manager their is a horrible person, and until he's gone I won't be eating there. Update: FIRST OF ALL if i was trying to get something for free I would have. I have spent 50$ for seafood! Money isn't a problem so don't insult me. The food is just as good as the uptown location except you don't have to worry about a long wait or crowded atmosphere. Every time we have been the waiters/waitresses have been very personable and the food... The food???? Delicious!! We always order 3 pounds of crawfish and a pound of the snow crab with kitchen sink flavoring, medium heat, and an order of potatoes with two corn... I also recommend you ask for some of the extra base as to make sure your seasoning has a good ratio of juice/seasoning in order for it to not be dry. Overall, the food was okay, but nothing spectacular to make us come back. It is nice they give you gloves and a bib since it can get messy. Everything is perfectly cooked. I witnessed the bartenders help multiple customers find their perfect choice on the menu, they were very friendly, attentive, and patient. My friend and I recently visited Shell Shack, and we had a wonderful time! Firstly, there is no wait time, and we got seated immediately. Our server was John, and he was friendly and helpful, bringing out drinks promptly and supplying us with all the necessary utensils. The food (we ordered shrimp) came our great and tasty, and it came out at a great time. I liked how they used only shrimp when measuring out a pound of the item, versus using filler material like corn cobs. The great customer service was the icing on the cake and made our dine in experience more enjoyable. Our server made sure to check up on us to see if we needed. So dang delicious. Got there ahead of my friends (4 of us) on a Sunday and my server Christy (friendly server btw) immediately came and took my drink order (Revolver Blood & Honey on draft, yum). Shrimp was large and fresh but both the fries and the shrimp wasn't as hot temperature wise as I'd like it. The a/c was pretty strong in the restaurant though so that might've had something to do with the food cooling down before hitting the table. The seasoning on the fries was on point. Crack fries are always a plus. The main course, snow crab legs with sausage and potatoes in kitchen sink medium, was the business. Bibs and tools distributed, we wasted no time digging in. It was pretty humorous throughout the meal using the metal crackers to send some of our shells flying across the table at each other (not on purpose...of course). But I digress. The flavor coating the food was super tasty and the service was good, and of course, the handwashing station was very convenient. Only reason I didn't give a perfect review was the temperature of the food and the price on some menu items. I felt 8 pieces of fried shrimp tossed in Buffalo sauce was a bit overpriced at $13. Also, we went on a Sunday with Happy Hour all day and that only denoted $1 off drinks. The lowest priced mixed drink was $10 and the draft beer was either $7 or $8. If there was anything wrong with this restaurant I was blinded because of the excellent service I received from the waiter.
