Favorite shellfish place!!!! I tried the Bairdi crab and although someone told me i might not be able to tell the difference between it and snow crab, i absolutely did. I thought it was very much worth the extra money as it had a sweeter and less fishier taste to me. Its as much $$ as King crab, but worth the price as King is so knotty i get some cuts on my fingers usually. You can pay a few extra dollars tho and have them shell anything for you. I get the sauces on the sides and just dip so its way less messier. read more

Me and my boyfriend have ate here 3 times before and it was always good...until now. We went there last night and ordered takeout since he had his 4 year old who has autism and we knew it would be difficult to eat there, not only for us but also the other patrons and staff. We ordered a pound of snow crab and shrimp uptown style (they shell it for you for $5 each extra) and we also ordered 2 corn and an order of potatoes. We got all the way home (30 minutes 1 way not including the time we sat there waiting for our order) with it only to find we didn't get our corn or potatoes and they hadn't shelled the shrimp. My boyfriend called and all they could offer us is for us to bring the food all the way back to them and then they would try to fix our order. I don't understand after paying $55 for things we didn't get why the burden would fall on us to come all the way back with a small child in tow. Someone really should have tried to make this right seeing how we always spend a lot at this place and really have told other people great things about it. read more

The shell shack has become one of my go to spots whenever I visit Dallas. I ordered a pound of snow crab with the "kitchen sink". My order came out hot and fast and our server was very attentive. He did great job of anticipating our needs and checking up on us regularly. It's a great place to bring a group of friends, or family and there are plenty of options for those who don't eat seafood. If you work in the industry make sure to tell your server so you can get a "dog tag" which allows you to get most spirits, beers, and wine for only $3.50 read more

So I had previously visited the shell shack uptown and have always had a great experience; food, service, etc. I had made the trip up to try the new Shell Shack in Plano and let me tell you it was worth the drive! Parking and accessibility was a lot easier, I was greeted right at the door by one of their hosts and I was sat almost immediately. The place is a lot bigger than the one in uptown and there are tvs everywhere to watch the game! I was greeted by my server Jordan who was fantastic, quirky, and down right hilarious. He took my order and my food came out in no time at all. The hospitality amongst the servers and manager was awesome, everyone was so friendly! The owners were up there as well and I talked with them a bit bragging about how much I love this place. I finished my meal and left completely satisfied, well almost... Of course you're never satisfied when you leave the shell shack until you've used their famous hand washing station! I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone and everyone! Shell Shack. I honestly would have never known this place existed unless a friend of ours hadn't recommended it. This is the newest location of the franchise. Kind of a hidden location behind Costco and next to Jersey Mike's. Walked in was immediately sat down and greeted. First bad thing I noticed that the middle ceiling light in the middle of the room was flickering ALL night! Very annoying. Waiter came to us quickly and explained to us how the place worked. There are menu items but 1/4 of the prices are not listed due to seasonal and market price seafood available. The seasonal and prices list are on the black chalk board behind you also very annoying. Also because they allow small children to draw on the same menu. SO you cannot take them seriously. Bar was big and looked like a great place. Many seasoning options which i like. We had a dozen oysters (great!), a dozen shrimp and a dozen craw fish all kitchen sink style in mild and a medium which was perfect! The waiter we had in between serving us would go sit with his friends at the table RIGHT next to us so that was also super weird and rather unprofessional. Honestly there are cheaper/ better options elsewhere like Rock Fish, or Fish city grille (I love them!). Probably won't return. Although they have the coolest wash station afterward. NO gross towelettes. I'll keep a star just for the washing station. read more

First let me say the food here is amazing. I come here often and will likely return but today I had subpar service. I ordered two boils online but when I got home, there was only one boil bag along with the 2 appetizers I ordered. I attempted to call first but after several attempts no one ever answered. So, I came in. I told the bartender what happened and she went in the back to get someone. That someone came out and asked if I had the original bag so she can look inside. I did not bring the bag back because I am sure I know how to look in a bag and determine if something is missing. I felt completely uncomfortable that she would accuse me of lying. She decided to go ahead and make the food. While I was waiting, the bartender looked at a to go order bag that was waiting for pick up and guess who's it was? Mine!! They forgot to give me the bag when I first picked up my order. So basically I was made to feel like I would lie about a missing bag of seafood and it was their mistake. What customer service!!! My rating is based solely on the service that I received while visiting The Shell Shack in Plano. I have been to both locations for dinner and lunch on multiple occasions and while the service has always been good I am obligated to talk about my service today with Chris Strong. Where do I begin? From the time my coworker and I arrived, we were greeted by Chris with a cheery warm smile and excellent personality. He has excellent knowledge of all items on the menu and secret items not listed such as the carrot cake. I must say that I typically do not eat dessert but I ended the meal with the BEST carrot cake I have had in my life (and typically I don't like carrot cake) all while Chris was managing to convince me that since it was carrots and coconut it was good for my diet. I even purchased a slice to go.... LOL!!! Chris always attended to us but never rushed us all while keeping my glass of lemon water full, engaging in funny conversation and removing any dirty napkins and dishes from the table as we continued to eat.The most excellent experience with a server in a long time!!! Oh, btw, our food was delicious, the only negative was I didn't listen to Chris' recommendation but I told him I will be back for dinner tomorrow. You MUST use the awesome hand washer... Chris even explained in detail the cost and maintenance on a monthly basis as I mentioned needing one in my home. Needless to say I will continue to go to the Shell Shack and use theirs because I can't afford it at home... besides with service like we received from Chris Strong coupled with the good food and atmosphere I can't imagine spending my money any other place. read more

Worst service I have ever experienced in my life. First, we had a party of 20 (you would think a restaurant would be excited for the 200+ tab they were about to receive) and asked if we could move a table to try and accommodate our party. The server said no, but offered to move the table outside for us to sit. When we went outside, he then said retracted his statement and said we had to move the table back, so we asked to talk to a manager to see if it would be accommodated. The manager comes out 5 minutes later and is extremely rude and throws his hands up saying "he told you so it's okay I guess", and walks away. While we sat outside for 10 minutes with no greetings from any servers and the manager never offered to get our order started. We decided to leave due to this horrible service and went to another restaurant down the street that was way more accommodating to our party and we received great service. Beware of this place if you decide you want to have a nice family outing. Although I've heard good things about the food, having service this horrible is not worth it. read more

I wish I could be able to write a review about the food but we did not get that far. Around 5 o clock today me, my wife, and 2 year old went to try this place out. We get seated and it is somewhat picking up, probably around 60% capacity. We see this blonde waitress greet and bring drinks to three tables adjacent to ours. 5 minutes go by......10........15 min and we have not been greeted or acknowledged by anyone. This is my first complaint. I have been a server for 6 years of my life and know that there is not an ice cubes chance in hell she didnt see us sitting there for 15 minutes without an acknowledgement, although what happens next is probably the source of the problem. What looks like a manager swings by changing the channels on the televisions and I motion and say "sir" to get his attention so we can have someone assigned to us. He looks at me and says "give me one second" as he changes 3 or 4 more televisions. That was the last straw we got up and left. In 32 years I have never walked out of a restaurant before. Complete lack of FOH execution between the hostess, servers, and most of all manager who finds changing channels more important that greeting a table. I was in the mood for some crabs. This is my new favorite restaurant. We had the snow crab, french fries and tartar sauce. Three of my favorite foods, so I am kind of picky about them and they were excellent!! The service was great, the waitress tied our bibs on us, was fast and friendly! We each went with the Medium seasoning and Cajun flavored. Excellent! Medium had very little heat, so if you like it spicy step up to hot or diablo. I'm excited to try "kitchen sink" seasoning on our next visit. Also, the burgers looked amazing. What an unpleasant experience! The food serving was so small, it made me feel like a bird. Bird food that must have been cooked in a gold pan, considering the price. I have no problem paying for expensive food, but it was so bad that our whole table felt like we were served just leftovers. Leftovers that they just portioned evenly so that everyone in our table could be served something, anything. I mean, that couldn't be their normal servings usually, right?! I hope not. And by the way, there was still about 3 hours before their kitchen closed, so they did not have the excuse of "It's almost closing time!" To even give this restaurant one star is VERY courteous. I used to come to this restaurant all the time in the past but the way me and a friend were treated tonight reminds me why I won't be returning again. Upon entering through the patio due to the fact my friend having a service animal I came into the restaurant (without the dog) to inform the manager that we would be sitting outside because we have a service animal he informed me that they weren't serving outside because "it's too windy" (current wind speed is 11 MPH). When I offered to order everything through the bar and take it out myself so no server has to worry about coming outside I was then told "well we don't even allow service animals on the patio anyways". Which is VERY sad that you would one, deny a patron the ability to sit outside especially when they offer to basically do the servers job for them and two, deny someone with an emotional disability to have their certified service animal on THE PATIO!
