Not so impressed. Sunday at lunch, decent crowd. Dropped over $130 (party of two) for the date night special, a few drinks and the bread pudding. We had the kitchen sink seasoning on the side, which probably explains how most folks don't notice the sub par quality of crab. Most everything was ok, except what mattered, the crab. The king crab was tough and certainly overboiled. The snow crab was only marginal. Seriously, thought maybe this place would far exceed say, a place called Joe's? That's where you might expect mediocrity. We were really disappointed in the quality of the crab, which is the only reason we tried the place. The service was ok but we did have to wait a while for dessert to come, the shrimp was just ok, but a little over boiled the boiled potatoes, sausage and corn were fine. Stopped here for lunch the other day. Staff was great. Waitress was just the right amount of attentive. Flavor of the crawfish I ordered was good. What knocked this place down to 3 stars for me was the price. A pound of crawfish was $8/pound? I know it's early in the season but come on. And I saw shrimp was $14/pound so I ordered 1/2 pound. Did I get charged $7? No, I got charged $10. I think I'll go elsewhere next time. read more

Wow, what a great find! The menu had some interesting choices, but I played it safe w fried shrimp and fries. I got a nice sized plate of large, flavorful shrimp. The batter is better than anything I've ever had. Even the cocktail sauce was different and better. This came w a big mess of fries - way more than I could finish. It was okay. Seafood didn't taste all that fresh. I noticed the market cost is so much more the places like crab station which is so much better. There so many more options in north Texas. I doubt I be back for overpriced seafood that is mediocre sauce. read more

Have been to this location before and have seen other dogs on their patio, but went when patio was completely empty in the middle of the day with my pitbull and was told no dogs were allowed on their patio (even though I've seen them there and it also says online that their patio is dog-friendly.) The catfish filets were hot and tasty although priced higher than excellent long standing competition nearby. When they were delivered I was asked if I preferred tartar sauce or cocktail source to which I replied "cocktail sauce". I was given a very small container of cocktail sauce so I asked for a little more as it wasn't enough for two filets. When I got the check I had been charged an additional 60 cents for a tiny additional container of cocktail sauce. Add to this a very noisy environment (the acoustics of the restaurant are terrible). Yesterday I had a craving for seafood. I'm from Louisiana. I live here now. My boyfriend suggested this place. Our first time. It was a nice crowd, didn't have to wait. The worst experience for a meal in a long time. Every table around us had the same problem. Slow service, cold food, chowder was cold, sent it back and it never returned. Fried oysters and calamari was marginal. Excuses about lack of kitchen staff but it really came down to poor management of the staff. We will never return and recommend anyone considering trying this restaurant turn around and go home. read more

Crawfish were good but I hate that they throw the season loose in a plastic bag with the seafood and whatever else you order to cook. Everything was crusted in the seasoning which made it hard to enjoy. Otherwise seafood was fresh and yummy. read more

She'll shack had some amazing food. The kitchen sink sauce was the best. I've never had such flavor full shrimp. We also enjoyed the Bairdi crab which was a smaller version of king. The sides were amazing and from a food standpoint we really didn't have much to complain about. The service was good, but could've been improved. When you're all finished, they have a habdwashing station that cleans the most notorious of the dirty hands produced. read more

With just being open about a year now, I believe with all my heart they are only going to continue flourishing! i never really liked seafood, but i met a man who just loves it so i picked this place off yelp for us to try one night and we have been going there ever since. im now ordering crab legs, with a pound of shrimp{kitchen sink} of course with the potatoes, corn and broccoli. we have had trey as our server twice and the service has always been great. i recommend this plano location to anyone. think i will be having dinner there tonight. read more

My husband, my parents, his parents and our daughter and I visited the Plano location since my uncle raved about this place and we decided to check it out. What a MISTAKE!!! 1)Their alleged market prices on their seafood are inflated. Flat out. 2) They sneak in an automatic 20% gratuity on your check by calling it a "service charge" that is ironically the same amount as a 20% gratuity... so in other words you're paying a 20% tip whether you like it or not. It's added into your grand total and cleverly placed on the receipt so you hardly notice it. Should you not notice it and decide to tip say 15% of your bill, they're making out with a whopping 35% tip!! We asked for the manger and he explained that as long as there is a sign up stating that a 20% charge will automatically be added to your bill, it's legal and he has the nerve to say that it's not a tip, it's a service charge... talk about semantics. Oh and the sign stating such practice is small and inconspicuous and placed where patrons won't take note of it. 3) They charged my mother-in-law an alcohol tax and she didn't order an alcoholic beverage. 4) They charged my dad and father-in-law .50 for a side of tartar sauce (it's a seafood restaurant.. give me a break) and charged my dad .50 for a side of ranch to go with the side salad he ordered.... and the server failed to mention that they charge for the obvious tartar sauce and ranch. 5) the food is mediocre and overpriced. It's not Pappadeaux... it's a freaking sports-bar style seafood joint. 6) My family enjoys eating out, and have no problem spending money and we expect quality food that is adequately priced (and we're not forced to pay a 20% tip) ... needless to say we WILL NEVER come to this or any other shell shack and we will not be recommending to anyone we love and care about. read more

The Shell Shack is a welcome addition to the area. We enjoyed the oysters, they were good sized and had great flavor. Then came the King Crab legs they were cooked perfectly had the kitchen sink mixture and it was good, a little overpowering to be able to taste and enjoy the crab and messy. I will try them naked next time to get the full flavor of the crab. the drinks were good. We had a great waiter, Chris Strong ask for him he gave us some great tips on what to get and was extremely knowledgeable about all the restaurant had to offer. We will be back to explore other Items to figure out what is our favorite. read more

Excellent king crab with kitchen sink sauce. Very messy but worth it! Our waiter Sean was accommodating and on the ball even during a busy Saturday night. This is not the cheapest place you can eat, because crab!, but sometimes you've just got to have it and Shell Shack does it well. read more

My wife and I love this place. The seafood is always fresh and the different sauces allow me to have my very spicy seafood and my wife to have her's mild. And the prices are quite reasonable for fresh shellfish. We love the peel and eat shrimp and the snow crab. Chris is a great waiter and April is a great bartender. read more

My husband and I visited Shell Shack for the 1st time last Sunday. Not only was the seafood yummy but our waitress AMY was the best! She took great care of us and we will be back! We went there this past weekend for a birthday party table for 8, The food and the crew were outstanding to us in every way possible. All of us ordered different things on the menu and all of us raved how great our meals were. Service was attentive and the manager came to visit our table to insure everything was ok. Went to Shell Shack Plano again last night. Don't get me wrong it's good every time I visit, but last night everything was way above excellent. Our server Chris "strong" was awesome, just like he always is. I've had him and a server twice and he is just amazing. Our drinks were never empty, we always had a clean shell plate, everything was out super fast. He always asks us if we want to go cups also, not many servers do that. He is overall an amazing server and person! Last night the crab was also cooked so perfectly. The past few visits the meat has been breaking in the shell when you crack it, which it's so darn good anyways I don't mind, but last night when you would crack it, the full tendon would come out in-tact every time. It was superb. And don't even get me started on the sauce last night! It was thick and flavorful, just like it's supposed to be. Thick enough where you can roll the crab in it and get a nice coating of it. I love this place so much! So glad my boyfriend introduced me to this amazing place back in April. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! I have visited this establishment twice and the service was great. However, tonight I'm in disbelief. My kids and I arrived and we're put on a waiting list only to have a table of 8 arrive after us bit seated first. But, that's not the bad part. I ask for a manager and Robert comes out. He tells me to be quite so he can talk?!!Really? !!! You're the manager?! So, I then ask for another manager. I then ask, Rami (another manager ) if we could step outside because I was very upset. In tears. As I'm talking to the other manager, Robert, who's a manager in training, comes outside and says I'm complaining because I want something for free. Are you serious? ! I always tip at least 20% . I will. NEVER attend that establishment again. I'm waiting to hear from upper management because, I can't believe that a manager treats paying customers this way!! I was soooooo upset that I cried all the way home. Needless to say that I no longer had an appetite so, I ordered Chili's to go for my kids. I'm so disappointed and still in complete utter shock. wait.. hold on. i have a headache. it's bad.. my experience in this shell shack atleast. i mean. i should have just gone to in n out. My friends and i were finally reunited after how many years and decided to have a late dinner at shell shack. everybody ordered rice but was told that there is not enough rice and said that there are only 7 servings of rice left. attached is the picture of a serving of their rice. It was hard to chew. seemed like it was from the very bottom of the rice cooker. they said the kitchen closes at 1 am. it was 11pm. i guess they don't wanna cook more rice. i dont know. it didn't look like its worth $2.25. i had to order the potatoes. the snow crab was good. the server's attitude was good but the rice though.. check the picture. the best part of this experience was the automatic handwashing part. maybe if we came in early where there are still a lot of rice left. maybe my experience would have been better. but i mean. come on. why not cook more rice. read more

Just returned from Shell Shack Plano. What a waste of $91 for two of us and that was without tip. We were seated 7 pm, our food arrived at 8:30 pm. Four different waiters and one we thought was manager came by to apologize. Finally one of our orders came and it was wrong. When they got it right, we were fed up. We ordered one beer, and our waitress placed two in a hurry on our table and left. We specifically even said to her we will share one beer. How hard is that to understand? The bill came and we were shocked. There was an up charge for ordering crab with out shells, but it was never explained to us that if the kitchen cleaned the crab, you get charged. We go out to eat often, to a variety of places, and in my 30 plus years trying out eateries all over Dallas, I never wrote a review or complained. Had to do it tonight. With so many eateries around us, and many wonderful well priced restaurants and fish places, this is one that we are never returning to. read more
