I really wanted to have a positive experience with this HVAC company, but unfortunately, it didn't turn out that way. When I asked what I thought were straightforward questions about the PSI readings before and after Freon was added, the technician became noticeably defensive and agitated. I ended up having to stop the conversation and asked him to just complete the work, which made things feel tense and unprofessional. To his credit, he did apologize later and his tone became more friendly, but by then, the interaction had already left a bad impression. I had no problem paying the $800 freon recharge cost, but at that price point, I think it's fair to expect respectful communication and transparency. I was simply trying to keep track of the PSI readings for my own records, since I'm dealing with a known leak. As a customer, I believe it's reasonable to ask questions and feel comfortable doing so. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I won't be using their services again and can't recommend them. read more

Very competent appliance repairman. Pablo Zapata did a very good job fixing bad bearings in my dryer (it was banging loudly). Although pricey, it was much better than buying a new appliance. He also successfully diagnosed my dishwasher as needing cleaning (vinegar et al). While he was waiting for the dishwasher to cycle (charging hourly), I asked him about the upcoming change to propane based HVAC systems for 2026. I had just spent a lot of time with an HVAC guy gaming out the pros and cons of putting in a system in 2025 vs. 2026 and was curious what Pablo thought. He had no idea what I was talking about. Kind of like asking a football player about the Super Bowl and having him go huh? Of course, he may have misheard me. Anyway, I can definitely recommend him for appliances. He's a good guy and quite capable, albeit expensive. For HVAC or plumbing, I can't say, but my general recommendation (not limited to Mr. Zapata) is to remember that in Maryland HVAC techs and plumbers (but not appliance repairmen) are highly trained and must be certified (or serious fines and jail time) after having completed their apprenticeships. In Montgomery county appliance repairmen need county licenses. Before committing to paying someone hundreds or thousands of dollars for some work, make sure their name is listed in the online licensing databases. Our tax dollars at work! read more

My heater was really loud, like so loud it woke us up at night, and it was the day before a winter storm so we urgently got it checked out. Zapata's price was $325 paid before he even comes out--a crazy high fee but we were desperate and figured it'd go to repairing the heater, which would cost more anyway. Pablo came out and told us everything was fine. We said the noise was not fine and we'd heard no noise at all for the last 4.5 years. He said no it's fine, you could replace the fan but it'd just be noisy in another year. A week later our heat stopped working in the middle of the night in the middle of a very cold run of days. We called somebody else and they found the draft inducer motor was broken. Replaced it and now it's silent again. I requested a refund from Pablo and he refused. read more

Awful experience in the heat of the summer. He insisted that he could fix my 20 years old system even though I realized it should be replaced. Multiple tries at fixing it; each time it would work for a few hours and then break. Told me he was getting new parts... ultimately I paid him $5000+ for nothing. Got subsequent estimates/evaluations from other HVAC services who said 1) system too old to be repaired 2) parts he used to do "repairs" were used and 3) the Freon he used was not suitable for my system. THe freon that should be used is not widely available anymore (only old stock available( and that is one of the reasons why system should not have been repaired - too difficult/costly to find the right Freon. Very defensII've guy when I tried to discuss. Ended up getting a completely new company and they replaced the system. DO not use him for anything slightly complicated -- he cannot handle it and will lie. Adding post response from company: This is a screen name, not my legal name. I contacted you over a dozen times -- via text, phone, and in person and we have repeated conversations about the issues over the course of a month and you refused to refund even part of the money I paid you, despite the fact that I had a different company come and replace the broken system. read more

After calling more than a dozen plumbers in our area during a heatwave weekend, we finally called Zapata's HVAC Systems after seeing them highly rated on Yelp. We called so many companies because a pipe in our basement ceiling was leaking and the ceiling was broken from a water bubble. He is a HVAC professional and didn't tell me that, I thought he was a plumber. Did a less than average job for installing a sink,faucet and attaching dishwasher. He couldn't even find right parts. I had to go to out to get parts twice. First time he was with me and forgot part of the foucet in the shopping cart. I end up with almost 7 extra parts. Anyway I don't know his HVAC work. I hired Zapata's HVAC Systems to remodel my first floor 1/2 bathroom. It was done very poorly. The paint job was sub-par. I had to hire another contractor to fix his work. The new contractor had to repair the walls and re-paint; repair mirror trim paint; paint the ceiling. In addition, I had to beg Mr. Zapata to take the old toilet that he left in my backyard. After a few weeks, he finally hauled the toilet away. Moreover, I hired Mr. Zapata to install gutter guards in all my gutters. He did a poor job and left many misaligned and sticking up. Some of them blew off. Again, I had to hire another contractor to finish and fix his work. Mr.Zapata said that I needed a new garbage disposal per my inspection report. I read the report afterwards and it did not say that. Beware as this contractor pushes to be paid via Zelle and Venmo. I found out that a previous customer filed a BBB complaint alleging unnecessary work performed and wanting to be paid via Venmo. In addition, like the other customer, he will not furnish invoices. read more

He explained that HVAC is not his only field of expertise. He also does plumbing and electrical work. The a/c unit in my suite had been leaking water from the unit on and off for the last 6-8 weeks, we had a handman that does other work around the house come out clean/blow it out, as he said it was likely due to a blockage. However, not even two weeks later its leaking again... Due to the large amount of water leaking I turned the a/c unit off yesterday and had ceiling fans running which was of no help for me as it was still too hot! Pablo and his assistant Leudy did a great job servicing my HVAC mini split English basement system and then installed a nice cover I ordered from Germany on Etsy to make the external condenser look a lot nicer. He had never put together and mounted one of these covers before (and the directions were only in German) but he did a excellent job and even cut a spot for the pipes to enter when it didn't quite fit and applied some clear caulking to some of the rough edges so no one would cut themselves on it. Great tools, familiar with my Maytag freezer, figured out low freon, small leak somewhere not found, but was able to put in a line access device/valve and charged R134A. He didn't have any leak seal on hand but I was able to purchase the adaptor from schrader valve to std R134A automotive quick valve and inject dye/seal/R134A. Freezer works, how long is debatable because it's 16 years old. read more
