This place my husband and I have been passing for years and I finally stated to him LETS GO. So we took a visit to Shema Sushi they have limited hours and not a ton of tables. I would suggest getting here earlier than later. The inside has tables and you can see the chef making sushi, nigiri and etc. Enough tables and the color scheme is black walls, lots of natural light and tables. Now you can get your menu from the QR Code or feel free to ask for a menu. They have Asahi Beer a plus and I had a few unfortunately it's not on tap. I got a few rolls and my husband got the sushi sashimi combo. He liked it not loved it. I enjoyed it and our server was friendly, engaging and pleasant. I'd come back for sure as it's close enough to where we live. Considering its Sushi prices are moderate. I would come back for sure. Parking is basically street it is what it is.

Shema sushi is a great restaurant to go to if you're craving sushi in Rochester! We ordered the agedashi tofu, 3 chef special rolls (sumo, yummy yummy, and phoenix rolls), and a kitsune udon. The agedashi tofu was a bit paler than I'm used to, but it tasted decent, although nothing special. My favorite roll was the Phoenix roll (I love spicy tuna), but they were all pretty solid and tasted fresh! The kitsune udon was good as well, I always love fried tofu and how it soaks up the flavor of the broth. Overall, this was a solid meal and service was quick and kind to us :)

Best sushi in Monroe County, NY! Maybe even in Western NY! Really clean restaurant, too! No sticky tables, menus, or shoyu bottles. The quality of everything we ordered was excellent.

I love Shema sushi. They have the freshest and most flavorful fish. I've been coming ever since a friend recommended. It's a small place but they make the best sushi. So many tasty and unique rolls and other entrees. Absolutely love going here.

Huge fan of Shema! We ordered for Yelp's Big Night In 2.0 and I was so impressed by their Covid-19 setup. Large barriers, food out on the table, and a text message when food was ready. We had a pretty large order with rolls, combo specials, entrees, and apps, and everything was labeled / conscientiously packed up. It did take over an hour for the food to be prepped, but not a huge deal. I will admit, since my first love Shiki closed a while ago, I haven't been super inspired to order sushi from any of the other great spots. Primarily because many of them are in Henrietta, which is simply not close to me, but also because I have REALLY missed Shiki. The sushi offered here at Shema is still not the same quality, but it might be the best option we have available right now. I went with a sushi combo that includes soup and salad for like $19, which was great. I'm looking forward to continuing to support this biz!

Still five stars! I'm updating my review to say that I still love this place, and they're offering pickup orders by phone during the COVID-19 outbreak. Today I ordered the chicken gyoza and bulgogi meal for lunch and it was so worth it. The food was as fresh and delicious as ever, and given these uncertain times, having a hot meal made with love meant so much to me. Give them your patronage if you can! Their current hours are: Mon. - Fri. : 11:30AM ~ 7:30PM Sat. : 4:30PM ~ 7:30PM Check their Facebook page for updates and a menu.

    Sushi "boat" for 2

My new go-to place for sushi now that Shiki is closed. Shema offers a similarly convenient central location and some of the best sushi I've had in Rochester. Their sushi boat for two is what keeps bringing my fiancée and I back. For $50, it's a decent value with plenty of food even for those with big appetites. The sushi boat consists of two miso soups, two salads, 2 chef special rolls (8 pieces each) and 20 pieces of nigiri sushi with some seaweed salad. The rolls are expertly made with good uniformity and generous amounts of ingredients. The nigiri are too notch. They serve both salmon and tuna two ways. I'm a fan of their toro nigiri. Another underrated item on their menu is their Hamachi Kama (grilled yellowtail). As long as you don't mind getting your hands a little dirty, you'll be rewarded with delicious and succulent fall off the bone fish.

Yummy yummy roll with tempura shrimp and seared salmon, so good!

I came here last night for some sushi and I am ready to comeback for more ASAP it was so delicious. My friend and I ordered 4 rolls which were very filling. The spicy tuna roll was your classic roll and was very good. The kabuki was a great light roll, didn't have overpowering flavors but had the perfect combo of fish and avocado. The star rolls of the night were the yummy yummy and the salmon crunch. Both had the perfect amount of tempura flavors mixed with the creaminess of either cream cheese and avocado. I probably said mmmm with every bite I took and we definitely fought over the last pieces of them. Our server was super friendly and quick all night too. I can't wait to come back and try more!

Nothing spilled, everything still looked fresh, which already put me in a good mood. Now the food... I cannot believe how good the lobster roll is. If you haven't had it, you haven't lived. It's that kind of good. Like pause mid-bite, close your eyes, what is happening right now kind of delicious. The miso soup was a whole experience by itself. Warm, comforting, and it just felt nourishing. Not just something on the side, but something you actually appreciate with every sip. And the Brussels sprouts... I added just a little soy sauce and wow. Completely took them to another level. So simple but so good. This is one of those places where everything hits. Fast delivery, great packaging, and food that actually lives up to the hype. I'm already bookmarking this spot.

You are seated at a tablet in front of a conveyor belt with the sushi making it's way around the restaurant. You can take whatever catches your eye as it passes in front of you, or you can order from the tablet. If you order from the tablet, little cars bring the food on a second, higher conveyor belt above the first one, or sometimes a robot brings it to your seat. So there are 2 moving belts, robots, and servers. It's a lot! Fun, but be aware. It is cool that you can see things moving past and try different things. The plates on the belt are also less than a full order, which means you can try more things, if that's your style. Service is pretty quick since you're helping yourself from the belt. They do a good job making sure there is a variety of items on the belt and seemed to restock pretty quickly. You can mostly chose from rolls and nigiri. I do like American style rolls, and enjoyed the options. The guy prefers nigiri. We ordered some tempura and picked some nigiri from the menu as well. I really enjoyed the veggie tempura. They have good salmon - we tried the peppered salmon, which he thought was too much, but was smokey and peppery, and I enjoyed. There was also a spicy yellowtail, and plain salmon that was also nice quality. We shared an ice cream sundae with one of the little fish shaped cakes for dessert, which was really good. I liked the little cake with the red bean paste inside. It was fun and pretty low key.

We came here on a packed Saturday night when RIT's Nova group was hosting a fundraiser, so we got discounted AYCE and we knew a portion of proceeds were going to their organization. The wait was about 50 minutes at peak dinner time, so that was fair. I was very impressed with how clean and efficient everything was, including the cart at the end of the table for used dishes. Our food came out fairly quickly as we ordered on the tablet, and it was the kind of quality you always hope to get at a sushi joint: nice sized portions, very fresh tasting, lovely presentation. I appreciated that you could also help yourself to the rotating belt options for no extra charge. The only things we paid extra for were fountain drinks, and even those included refills (or so we were told - we only had one). The staff was professional, friendly and helpful. I hope whatever issues people experienced here in the past have been resolved because it sure felt like a top tier experience at an affordable price to me! My one beef is that the menu was missing a mackerel option but I'll be back another day to see if they have it

I chose this place because it offers not only sushi but also some dim sum dishes. It's a great place to try something new. We waited almost an hour for a seat on a busy night, but since it's an all-you-can-eat restaurant, I think it was reasonable. There were about 10 people ahead of me on the waiting list, and the food quality remained delicious throughout the meal. The service was also keeping up with the demand. The sashimi was incredible. I can't say I don't like any sashimi, but I love them all. Almost every sushi and sashimi we ordered was delicious. However, there's one thing I don't care for: the sticky rice shumai/shu mai. We think it's lacking in flavor. Overall, we had a great time at this restaurant. The food was delicious, and the service was good. I do think there's room for improvement in the dessert menu. We ordered a Dream Roll and a 2 in 1 roll. Neither were that great and the dream roll was missing the tuna and salmon it was supposed to have and they used a crab stick instead of real crab which was disappointing as well. The 2 in 1 roll was ok but nothing special. I will say that the order was ready early and they were gracious enough to included eel sauce and spicy mayo on the side as I requested, because it was not available as an add on, so I am going to assume the service is solid. The Chef was making our sushi in the front of the restaurant. Which is really important to me. A chef who doesn't hide his kitchen is confident in the quality of their food, and their cleanliness. I ordered 2 sushi rolls. I cannot remember which ones. But they were extremely fresh and tasty. I will think on it while typing and see if I remember. I have "Chemo Brain" so it hard. I know you're not supposed to have Sushi while on Chemo, but I have been craving it for weeks. I decided it was time for treat. My Dr told me yes, as long as I picked a top notch place. My husband is skeptical of sushi, so I ordered him shrimp fried rice, and Hibachi beef with veggies and rice. We ordered online, ahead of time while we were out running errands. We arrived early. We were graciously welcomed by both the Chef, and a very nice woman. We took it to go, and drove home. Super easy, and I think it is a husband and wife team. A very kind woman packed our bags. I was so happy that she put the Sushi In a separate bag, than the hot food. This might sounds simple, but it is a HUGE mistake that many restaurants make. I usually always get my sushi hot or salads wilted by steam when we order to go, so it was a nice treat, that care and common sense was used. The sushi was amazing. Ooh I remember now! lol. 1 of my dishes was a tempura roll, with Tuna on top, Avocado, and spicy sauce. The 2nd dish was similar, but made with real crab meat. It had something in it that gave it nice crunch. May have been tempura chips. My husband liked the shrimp fried rice, they chopped the shrimp up small, so at first he didn't see any. But he liked the flavors. He said it made the flavor more consistent. The Beef Hibachi dish, he said wasn't worth it. Too little beef. There were a lot of squash in the mixed veggies. He is not a squash fan. I helped him eat it and I liked it. But I can see that the portions are not "Big man" sized. Which I knew taking him there. But Japanese food is not usually pig out plates. It's nice healthy food. That's is what I wanted, and since I am sick, I got what I wanted. haha! He actually really enjoyed my Sushi. He didn't finish the shrimp fried rice, so he cooked up some chicken later that evening, and mixed it with the shrimp fried rice. we ate again as a 2nd meal. It was delicious. We both decided they have excellent sushi, one of the best places I've had in Rochester. We will be coming back again. We will probably stick with Sushi and maybe try their noodles. I think next time we will eat there. Even though we had some things we didn't care for. I did want to judge the menu, until we try more of it. It was touted on Google and Yelp as a sushi restaurant, not as a full service Japanese restaurant. As a result I am giving a pass on what we didn't like. Because what we did like was AMAZING.
