Yesss my first time ordering 3 cakes from here.. the mango mousse, tiramisu , n chocolate mousse with milk, chocolate cake,, the tiramisu is the best, creamy with a light texture of cake,,, the mango moose is good too, light not as sweet,, my lagunitas family also bought a bunch of assorted bao bai, cuz San Rafael side don't have any Asian bakeries.... I have introduced this bakery since the kids were one years old.,, cuz I love them so much , I often buy for them . Now they 18 n 13 years old ... this location has plenty of parking...their items r way better then 85'degree bakery....

    Japanese Light Cheesecake

Japanese Light Cheesecake has two layers. The top layer is cheesecake cake, the bottom layer is regular cake. The peach on top really juicy

Sheng Kee has a lot of locations throughout the bay. Their buns are OK and tend to run on the smaller side. I do like how they open early at 7am and have warm pastries. Today I got ham & egg bun $2.75, Vietnamese sandwich $5.85, bbq pork flick $2.55 and 2x chicken pie $2.25. They were OK, not great. The worst was their version of a "Vietnamese" sandwich.

    Prices

Bags: Every individual pastry is put in a clear plastic bag but they leave the bags open. Other bakeries seal the opening of these bags, but this bakery left them all open. The bags have little sticky strips at the opening that allows them to be sealed closed, similar to how you seal an envelope, but they didn't use them. Some of the oil from the savory pastries leaked out because of this. Display: They have a good diverse selection, but one section was not clearly marked. The bacon bun label was next to the chicken bun label, but the buns looked very similar. I've never seen this type of bun before so I thought they were different buns and it was just hard to tell the chicken bun had chicken in them or not. Afterwards, I saw on the receipt that they were the same bun. They should stack the bacon one clearly behind the bacon label and not let it over flow to the chicken bun section, which should be left empty if there was none. Or if the chicken bun does look like the bacon bun, then did they charge me the wrong item? Seating: They have a small section for seating. The cleanliness is okay. Most people just order take out. Service: Workers seem nice. The wait took about 15 min. even though we only had two people ahead of us. They only had two workers so I guess that's normal. By the time we paid, there was a long line. Food: Most of the pastries taste similar to other bakeries that sell similar products. -Bacon bun was okay but I probably wouldn't buy it again. -Pork sung bun taste like other bakeries that off the same option but there was a little too much mayo for me so it's a little heavy because of the mayo. -Green onion with pork sung tasted weird. It had an odd taste that I recognize but don't like. I'm not sure what it was but I wouldn't buy that again. -Green onion but was okay. I prefer a little more green onion but the flavor is fine. -Curry beef was okay. Flavor tastes normal and not too strong, but I'm not sure I would buy it again. -Chocolate cream is like a large round éclair but they use their yummy bread base in place of the puff pastry. Would definitely buy this again, but there is a little odd tart, tangy, or sour flavor that I've never tasted before in a puff pastry or éclair. It's very light so it's not a deal breaker. -Purple yam & custard buns both are really good and taste the same as other bakeries.

8" Fruit Basket Cake (8 水果籃蛋糕)

Came here for my mom's birthday cake! Was able to do a phone order and got it right away.

I called on Monday morning, to reserve a cake for Tuesday afternoon pick up. Ordered a Strawberry Mousse cake $35.95. The guy on the phone was nice, polite, knowledgeable. He took my order, name and phone number with ease. Came in on Tuesday afternoon, my cake was ready. Told the cashier at the counter that I have a cake reserved under my name, he was friendly and quick. He handled my cake with care, asked if I would like a plate set. The cake is really delicious. The strawberry mousse was medium thick, creamy and smooth. Not too sweet. Smells really amazing. It blended really well with the sponge cake. The fruit they used as decoration is full strawberries and grapes. I don't eat the actual fruit strawberries but my whole family said it was fresh and sweet. The grapes were really crispy and sweet. Definitely a cake I would order again.

Poorly made. The middle was full of big holes and the bread in the middle was not cooked and hard. Inedible!

I haven't been to any Sheng Kee location in a while and stopped by since I was having lunch in the area. I went picked up my favorite loaf of custard bread. When I got home I found that it was inedible and not made properly. The middle was hard and there were big holes in the middle. See photo for reference. I was sorely disappointed in the poor quality.

Passion Fruit Green Tea and Mango Green Tea

I've been going here for years now. I usually go here when I'm craving Taiwan Toast, bbq pork bun, cocktail bun... just to name a few. The place is always well kept and clean. You're greeted right away upon entering. I recently tried the mango green tea, and it was delicious was very refreshing and reasonably priced. I also tried the mango strawberry pudding. I thought it was so cute in its container. It wasn't too sweet and very light.

I've never been a huge fan of Sheng kee because their baked goods weren't that interesting to me but this time when I stopped by, I was actually intrigued by some of their products. Sheng kee is never a place where I would buy pineapple buns because it never seems fresh. This time when I was there, I actually got a pineapple bun! It looked so fluffy and it was actually warm! The bun itself tasted like how pineapple buns should taste like, sweet on top and soft bread underneath. I also got their black sesame roll which also seemed to be a newer product. The black sesame cake itself was delightful. Full of toasted black sesame flavor. The cream on the other hand could use some work. It almost tasted like frosting. Too sweet in my opinion. It would be nice if they use the cream on their whipped cream cakes. I also ended up trying their fresh egg tarts. Usually I get their Portuguese egg tarts in the warmer and they're always delightful. The egg tarts are pretty good too. The crust is more on the oily flakey side which I prefer over a cookie crust. Good job Sheng kee. I will be back! Note- there are birds that sneak inside this store which doesn't seem the most sanitary. They stay on the side where customers drop their crumbs and not where the breads are being sold

Ask the Community - Sheng Kee Bakery & Cafe

Is this place really open at 7 am? And is it usually busy in the morning?

Not really sure I don't go to Sheng kee that often!!!

Are patrons allowed inside the store to make purchase of the items?

Yes patrons are allowed inside to buy baked goods. They have each item individually bagged and you can grab what you want like before.

Does anyone know if they're still open or operating on different hours?

They're still open but not sure about their hours. I recommend calling them to find out. Each item is individually bagged. The last 2 times I went during SIP (afternoon), there was maybe 2 other customers in there.

If they're busy, they might forget to call your name and you'll need to go get the food yourself, which is frankly impossible to fathom when you come from San Francisco. But Pacifica is different, y'know?   Anyway.  ------------------------------ First, the turkey sandwich. 5/5 I'm guilty of expecting the meat to be the focus on a sandwich, but in this case the turkey was the filler, which, as a carnivore, is there a better meat filler? Bread, dijon, lettuce, turkey, queso. The dijon did for flavor what the lettuce did for texture, throwing in a twang that kept the sandwich interesting. Its creaminess tag-teamed with the cheese to keep the sandwich in one piece. Great sidekicks. The turkey was... Nothing special. Clean but mundane, for the star of the show was the bread.    Some of you might roll your eyes.  No shiet, Sherlock.  THIS. IS.  A bakery.   Cuz some of you might roll your eyes.  It's just bread.    But this isn't wonder-bread. It's dense. It's got a chew.   The sourdough is minimally sour, hearty, with a thick, hard crust, and made matrimony with the turkey. A lil bit of salt, the slightest tang, tango-ing into a single texture. Those of us who've had an egg sando in Japan understand how the softness of the egg salad made the softness of the bread fundamental. The turkey here wasn't slipping anywhere, though it complimented the meatiness of the bread. This, sandwich, needs, teeth.    I hope you weren't expecting to eat turkey without teeth. Perhaps that's tofurkey you're thinking about.   The crust was hard too. A well supported, almost crunchy hardness, and a far cry from the st-ale pork rind that the free bread in Mont-real would remind you of. I ended up turning the sandwich sideway as if I was enjoying a taco.   The best panera you'll get and a supreme sleeper.   ------------------------------ The second sandwich: 4/5 The sesame studded hoagie, on the other hand, was nothing short of Guns N' Roses. This sub had a KISS of intensity from the seared meats, a KISS of spice from the mayo and capocollo, a KISS of sharpness from the provolone, and a single leaf of romaine to give that little crunch and freshness, so you can tell your mom that you ate your veggies. There's going to be a rock concert in your mouth. With each element in a bit to prove their existence, it ended up being too intense for us. With these all being strong flavors, it's amazing that you could still taste everything. And they work well together. It's just that your taste buds will send an SOS, walking out of a Black Sabbath concert feeling a bit drained, like Spongebob breaking down after working the tables at Squidward's five star restaurant. The crustiness of the roll, the studded texture of the sesame, the meat escarpment slipping out, you will have no more desire for thee. Water. Something to cleanse the mouth.   If you're one of those among us who gets sweet emotions eating curry without naan or rice, this could be your bad medicine.   * Keep it simple, stupid.

FOOD: 9/10 COFFEE: 8/10 SERVICE: 8/10 AMBIANCE: 8/10 FOOD: 9/10 I love getting an Avocado Toast from here. Their sourdough is thick and yummy. They lather the toast with a lot of Avocado, so you definitely get what you pay for. I love their generous sprinkle of everything but the bagel seasoning! I love their pastries as well. No notes. No comments. Honestly, just really good, no matter what you pick. Just know, they definitely sell out for sure! COFFEE: 8/10 I've tried 2 different crafted lattes from here and thought they were decent! I ordered a standard Iced Vanilla Oatmilk Latte, and it was okay! It was neither the best I've ever had. I do like how I can taste the espresso shot, and the drink wasn't too milky. I also tried their Seaside Shakerato (I think that's what it's called, I forgot) and that was yummy! I loved the salted caramel taste, but the drink was slightly too milky and sweet for me. I would still get it again, haha. SERVICE: 8/10 Service is pretty standard out here and straightforward. AMBIANCE: 8/10 The space is simple, but the view of the open kitchen, along with the display of freshly baked pastries and loaves of bread, really adds to the ambiance. There's a good amount of indoor seating, though it can fill up quickly in the mornings. Thankfully, they also have outdoor seating available.

The service is OK the staff there collect your money and get you on your way so really nothing to complain about there. The bake shop and ambience is that of a typical Chinese style bakery you walk in and you grab your tray along with the tongs and you pick out the specific pastries that you want, and you put it on the plate and give it to the staff person at the front near the counter. That's also where you can get your egg tarts and other type of goods such as the more fresh pastries with meat in inside like a cha siew bao. If you pay with cash is cheaper as I believe they charge a surcharge when you pay with credit card. Parking is easy because it is just part of the big plaza area with plenty of parking.
