First time visiting this Sheng Kee Bakery location. A good sized bakery with some inside seating. The parking isn't that bad since it's in a large plaza. We actually stopped in late so the choices were few. But, my mom likes the baked items here.

Clean and organized bakery from the Sheng Kee brand. Inside are self serve stations and a cashier counter. Just grab a tray and a pair of thongs to grab your choice of baked goods, then pay at the cashier. It's mostly to-go bakery since there's only 2 small tables with 2 seats inside, so this won't accomodate any groups or people staying to eat their baked goods for longer than 20 minutes. Like all the other Sheng Kee bakeries I've been to, prices are reasonable and I appreciate how they regularly bring out freshly baked goodies, to replenish the supply throughout the day. Their Hong Kong milk is regularly only $2.95, but they have current special if you order between 8am to 12pm noon, a bun (average $3-4), it is only $2 to add a Hong Kong milk tea. Good deal for a quick breakfast bite and drink. My order today: Portuguese egg tart, BBQ Pork Bun, mini matcha mooncake, and hot Hong Kong milk tea. This bakery is is located in the same shopping plaza as Marina Foods. Grocery and a Daiso store.

Nice local bakery cafe with some seating in a busy strip mall in Union city. I've visited multiple times in the past year to pick up small treats after grabbing a meal at the Din Ding Dumpling nearby. The sweetness level of the treats is mild which is just how I like it. On my most recent visit, I picked up a few cakes on my way to visiting a friend for tea. The cake rolls are a good shareable accompaniment with black tea. When I was checking out, the queue had grown pretty long so the staff opened another counter to start checking people out faster.

Love the remodel - not sure when it happened but we come here every trip to Norcal. Yummy bread thats affordable. Lots of variety of pastries, breads, snacks and even hot food like egg tarts and tea eggs. Easy to find parking on the non-supermarket side.

This is a long-established bakery, a small shop, but it offers a full variety of breads and cakes. I really like their tiger roll cake and puddings. Recently, they've also introduced different pudding flavors, which are quite nice as well. I especially recommend their homemade Hong Kong-style milk tea (served hot only), it's excellent. The store isn't very spacious, but it's clean and tidy. The prices are fair and reflect the quality of the products, not too expensive. The service is also very polite. Highly recommended!

This bakery has a plethora of Asian breads, pastries, snacks, and cakes. My favorite is the chicken pot pie right next to the cashier, but I also like the chestnut cream cake they sometimes have.

Pretty happy with the Japanese cheesecake we bought. Fruit was tasty and the person at the counter gave us plates and forks in a nice little premade bag.

Growing up we always got the Asian cakes since they were light and not too sweet. Sheng Kee is one the original bakeries we would get our cakes from. Swung by on father's day in the evening and they had only a couple cakes left since this was last minute. Usually I preorder but I'm glad they had a few left. I opted for the mango mousse. Still light and semi sweet. Fruits were fresh and everyone enjoyed it! Cake was spongey and to can taste the mango.

Have not been to Sheng Kee for years! The place is clean and bright. Service could be faster, it was as efficient as they could be. A customer before me left some pudding items on the counter and it took a few minutes to figure that out. She came back after grabbing a few more items, and the other cashier helped her. The green onion buns were good: still prefer them to have more green onions less dough. I also got the buy 5 get 1 free Portuguese Egg Tarts deal. They were tasty. However, amazingly I like the Portuguese Egg Tarts at the bakery inside Ranch 99 on Rosewood Drive in Pleasanton more. They taste more authentic. The crust here needs some work. Convenient location, right next to an Asian supermarket and parking can be hard if on a weekend. I did not mind walking, so I parked quite far away. Part of the parking lot was flooded though, so if you come on a rainy day, be mindful and careful not to drive a low car, or watch for flooded spots.

Advertising a promotion they won't honor. Took my $120, then took my stamp card.

UPDATE (Jan 7, 2026): I am updating my review because Sheng Kee's corporate team reached out and went above and beyond to fix the situation. They were incredibly professional, admitted the mistake, and mailed me two tote bags along with two $10 gift certificates to make things right. I truly appreciate a company that takes accountability for their customer service. While I will not be returning to the Union City location due to the poor service I received there, I will definitely be back to visit Sheng Kee's other locations! Thank you for the wonderful resolution.

Just a small area of goods.

This Sheng Kee gets busy! I've visited many times, during weekdays and weekends, it's always got some hustle and bustle. During the weekends, it's got a lot of hustle and a lot of bustle. So, I'm pretty sure the baked goods are freshly made on a daily basis as I can bet to think that they sell out at the end of the day. The baked goods are always consistent, tasty, and you know what you're going to get. Savory, sweet, yogurt based, cakes, coffees, teas, and bobas, you're bound to find something you'd enjoy here. They'll also have seasonal mooncakes and other goodies. Not so much a cafe but a few seats and tables strewn around a bakery focused store, most people take their foods to go rather than sit down and enjoy. Plenty of parking in the Marina shopping center. I always try to make a visit when I am in the neighborhood.

Sheng Kee Bakery has been a staple inside the El Mercado Shopping Center for years now. They sell a variety of asian inspired baked goods and pastries. This location is pretty decent sized and offers a lot of different pastries and also has a good amount of seating if you wanted to enjoy your goodies at the bakery. The selection of breads and baked goods here are great, I like getting the Chocolate Pineapple Buns, they are delicious and filled with Chocolate inside. Just wished they would ensure that each bun had equal amounts of chocolate, as some do not have as much as others sometimes. Each week they have a weekly special so make sure to check what the special is to take advantage of it! There is a $10 minimum for credit card usage, so make sure to have cash if possible. The customer service here is okay, the people that work here are friendly enough to get by, but don't expect too much. Wish they had a loyalty program here for regular customers, but they don't. Overall, a good solid bakery in the area that is a staple for many.

    Japanese cheesecake
    Alan H.

Four stars based on cakes we picked up for a house party. We snagged the Mango mouse and Japanese style cheesecake. The mango mouse was light and sweetened to a moderate level it was delicious and not too heavily sweetened. The mouse was a bit on the thick side would have liked it to be a bit softer. The Japanese cheesecake had two layers of consistency to it. The bottom was more dense and the top was a bit fluffier. Overall not really cheesy more like a pound cake but still good. The service was friendly and helpful to get us yummy cakes!

Choose one who will also be nice to you :) Also IMO, the cake is expensive (but take this with a pinch of salt as I have not ordered such cakes before). Edited - adding more details: To give you an idea of what it is like communicating with this business, here is the exact timeline of our order: We had a phone call with the owner where we asked her the estimate for a 2 tier cake. We described a cake she had made previously. She said she dint remember the exact cake. We told her we will share a screenshot of the IG image. She said 2 tier cakes start at $350. We told her the date we wanted the cake for and confirmed that we will be making the booking and that we can discuss the details on chat: [My Husband]: Hi [Owner]. We just spoke on the call. Can you give us an estimate for this [Theme] cake? [Owner]: Okay this cake is $375 for the two tier with some Discount. Do you also want the cupcakes? [My Husband]: Yes. I would like to order. What flavor is the cake? Can you make it $350? No we don't need cupcakes. [Owner]: No, I mentioned to you. It starts at $350 and I already gave you a discount. So now the cake can be $400. [My Husband]: Alright. What flavor is the cake? Note: The owner then sent deposit instructions and ignored the question about the flavor. (The next day) [Me]: What flavor is the cake? [Owner]: You can choose two flavors - vanilla, chocolate, red velvet, cookies and cream, marble, funfetti, strawberry. [Me]: Is it per tier? Then let's do chocolate for the big one and vanilla for the small one. [Owner]: Sure. (A few days before the event) [Me]: Hi [Owner]. [Our friend] will pick up the cake on Saturday. Can he come around 4:30pm? He will give you the exact ETA when he is about to leave. Are there any pick up instructions? [Owner]: Hello I am only Home till 1230 pm [Me]: Okay. We (or our friend) will come around 12pm. [Owner]: Thank you! And the cake will be tightly packed and fit into your trunk. Can you message before you head over and remaining is due anytime before pickup thank you! $200. Thanks! [Me]: Yes, we'll venmo you when we come there. [Owner]: Before pickup please then I can pack it up (On the morning of the event) [Me]: Hi. I just sent the rest of the payment. [Owner]: Received thanks! What's your eta? [Me]: 12pm. I can get there by 11 too if you want. [Owner]: 11 would be better if that works [Me]: Sounds good, see you at 11!

I struggled with this…read morerating because it is a small family-run business, but I also didn't think it was fair to rate them 5 stars based on the quality and how things transpired. I read such amazing reviews about Minia's and was really optimistic about the cakes, especially since they offered more novelty flavors such as guava, mango, and ube that most bakeries don't have. I reached out to order a sample box and was told they provide 6 different flavors for $25, but they offer the cake samples in the form of cupcakes. Setting up the order was fairly easy and they were communicative via email. They also accommodated my request to swap out one flavor for another. When I first received the box, I was astounded by how big the samples were. For $25, I thought it was such a steal. I've been to a few tastings now and they range from a completely free tasting to $50 on the higher end, so I felt like Minia's pricing was pretty fair. To be clear, I don't have an issue paying a fee to sample an assortment of cakes. I understand that putting together these samples take time and money from the business, and free tastings are probably a thing of the past since people seem to take advantage of companies....but I do have an issue paying for cakes that are unpalatable and not worth my calories. It went all downhill after this. Of the 6 samples I received, all of them were dry and some the flavors were not very pronounced. Even my father, who is not a cake connoisseur by any means and doesn't really have a good palate noted that the cakes were dry. We took a couple bites, but ultimately trashed the box and we rendered the cakes inedible (technically, you could still eat them, but it would not be enjoyable). I reached out to Minia's with my comments and was offered a 50% refund and was also told that they've received feedback that the cupcakes can dry. I was taken aback by that comment because in my mind, if you know that the cakes you're providing as samples are a first impression of your business and that there is a known issue with the dryness, wouldn't you remedy that and give out samples that are more reflective of your quality? I was concerned that if I had gone through with this, the actual cake would be terrible and I would be wasting my money. I did ask for a full refund after they only offered half back, and they complied moments after by just sending a receipt with the updated invoice and no further comments.
