The food here is good. No complaints on that. I have come here for both lunch and dinner, and we've used their private room for my nephew's first birthday as well as for family members' milestone birthdays. The room is simple but works well for a group. Service has been inconsistent the last few times I've come. Most recently at my dad's birthday dinner we ordered 5 dishes and the dishes came out one at a time, about 10 to 15 minutes apart. By the time the next dish arrived, we were already finishing the previous one. My brothers and I were joking that they must have a new cook that hasn't learned how to time cooking. At a Chinese Korean restaurant, meals are meant to be shared family style, with dishes arriving at the same time so everyone can enjoy them together. That did not happen, and it took away from the experience, especially for a birthday dinner. On a separate lunch visit, the service also felt inattentive. The waitress seemed annoyed when taking our order as well as when I asked for more water and side dishes, which again impacted the overall experience. The food is still the reason to come. But consistent service, proper dish timing, and basic hospitality matter. I've considered giving a three star rating based on the last two experiences, but since I've been coming here for nearly a decade, I'll leave it at four. read more

This evening (2/8/2026 Sunday) , we picked up sweet and sour pork (tangsuyuk) to go from Shin Beijing and enjoyed it at home. This is a very old, long-established restaurant in LA. I hadn't been there in a long time--I went many years ago, then ordered takeout during the Covid pandemic, and this was my first visit back in quite a while. There's another Chinese restaurant, Yeonkyung, located just across the street, which is famous for its glutinous rice sweet and sour pork. We've gone there more often, so it has been especially long since we last visited Shin Beijing. This restaurant also has private rooms where you can sit separately, and it reminded me that we once held a family birthday party for my father here many years ago. Today, we ordered the sweet and sour pork to go, and it was so crispy and delicious. Since it had been so long since our last visit, I also noticed they now offer lunch specials, which all looked tasty and well-priced. I went to Shin Beijing for lunch, and it was a solid experience. The interior is spotless, with a modern remodel, new lighting and some private rooms create a nice atmosphere. We started with the mala mapo tofu, and it was fantastic, spicy and numbing with a strong mala kick. Service was quick and attentive, with the staff regularly topping off water. We also tried the stir fried vegetables, which had a bit of a mustard or wasabi like flavor. My family enjoyed it, but it wasn't my favorite. The ttangsyuk, however, was a highlight. We visited this restaurant for the first time because my father is a regular customer here, but the service was absolutely awful and left us extremely upset. My child wanted to order jjamppong, and we politely asked if the vegetables could be removed since my child does not eat vegetables. The female server responded by saying, "Then don't order it." I was shocked. I have never been spoken to like this at any restaurant before. We have visited countless restaurants, and requesting to remove an ingredient--especially for a child--is completely normal. Being told not to order at all is rude, unprofessional, and unacceptable. This place is not kid-friendly, not customer-friendly, and clearly does not care about basic service. We will never come back. I was craving jjajangmyun so my girlfriends and I decided to grab lunch here. We got here around lunch time on a Saturday and were seated right away. They get super busy so if you have a big party, make sure to make reservations. They have a big room to accommodate 100 people and they can also separate it into 5 rooms to host a party of 20 in each room! They have a wide selection of party menu so it a perfect place to host your party. There is a reason for them being open since 1984. And I was convinced to check out Shin Beijing because a chef from one of my favorite Korean restaurants in LA told me about them so it's legit. I wouldn't go here just for jjajangmyeon or jjampong. My review is based on this experience, which is probably different from dining in their regular seating area. Ambiance: The private rooms are on the smaller side, and the overall vibe of the restaurant feels like a typical old-school Chinese restaurant. It's functional but lacks ambiance. Service: The food came out quickly, likely because we had a set menu for the group. I appreciated that they came in to check if we needed more kimchi. The service is straightforward and efficient, in line with what you'd expect from a Korean/Chinese restaurant--no frills or unnecessary friendliness. Food: We tried so many dishes, many of which I don't know the names of. The fried shrimp in sweet-and-sour (or on the menu labeled as "hot") sauce was one of my favorites, along with the steamed fish with ginger and cilantro. I know Chinese restaurants aren't as popular for Dohljanchis these days, but it was a clear that for good food, plenty of space, and a good deal, Shin Beijing would be best to fit my family's needs for my daughter's 1st birthday. The staff here were so accommodating, flexible, and hardworking. They provided us with everything we needed and more to make sure all went smoothly. We have been regular customers here, bringing large groups multiple times a year. However, our recent experience was so disappointing that I feel compelled to leave this feedback for staff training purposes. We visited as a large group, and at the time, our private room actually had more people than the main dining area. There were about four servers on duty. As we were finishing our meal, one of the servers started lecturing us, saying we shouldn't keep calling different servers for various requests. In my opinion, this is a basic service standard: if there are four servers and a large group in a room, at least one person should be checking in periodically to see if we need anything--especially when the main hall isn't even busy. For example, if one table asks for to-go boxes, a proactive server should anticipate that other tables will need them soon and bring enough for everyone. Instead, they brought only two boxes and then complained that we were "asking too many times." The same thing happened with aprons, water refills, and napkins. It felt as though the staff thought their job ended at just dropping off the food. It was incredibly unprofessional to openly complain to customers about their requests instead of reflecting on their own lack of attentiveness. We weren't being rude or shouting; we simply had to go out and find a server because no one was checking on us. What's even more shocking is that even when we tried to be polite and said "I'm sorry, please understand our situation," the server continued to vent their frustration at us. If this establishment wants to handle large groups professionally, the staff needs serious retraining. I am deeply disappointed by this lack of hospitality. read more

This is good Korean Chinese food! It is fusion food so it is not authentic Chinese flavors. The crispy pork was very flavorful and crispy. The shredded pork with seafood was unique and included shrimp, sea cucumber scallop and more. They are known for their black bean noodle dish which was savory with onions and a tasty sauce. This is one of the best, if not the best, Chinese/Korean restaurants in K-town and Los Angeles. They are best known for their Jajangmyeon, tangsuyuk, and jjamppong. But, their Chinese dishes are incredible, their (fried rices, noodles, Mongolian beef, kung pao chicken, and their soups), especially love their sizzling rice soup. I haven't had their Peking duck, but it suppose to be fantastic. The restaurant can hold large parties as well. I have been here on several special occasions. The banquet menu varies in prices from $240 to $400 and up, depending on how many people there are. They also have a variety of special Chinese liquors, soju, beers, and Scottish Whiskey. We had a family gathering/birthday dinner (7 people including a baby) so we were trying to look for a restaurant with a private dining room, which Shin Beijing had. We were able to book one of their rooms for a Sunday dinner with their manager but, he called and canceled last minute saying there was a mistake. I was extremely annoyed as I was the one planning the dinner and had to find another place in 3 hours with a room for 7 people. (Almost impossible during holiday season/on a weekend) The manager did apologize and said he would try his best to accommodate us, which he did. He got us a table in the corner where it was blocked off, as we didn't want to interrupt others with a crying baby during dinner. The service was great and we enjoyed the food as well! I forgot to take pics of all the dishes we ordered. I especially enjoyed the sweet and sour pork (tang soo yook). Their jjampppong is on the spicier side so if you like spicy food, it's worth a try :) I also liked how the jjajangmyun wasn't too sweet! I came here for the first time with my friend and I honestly heard so much good things about this place and finally decided to try it. We arrived around 2pm and as soon as we entered we were greeted by one of the servers and got seated right away. I noticed that the restaurant was full when we arrived. There were so many items to choose from, we decided to try their new menu which is the Chinese Cold noodle. We also got their Broccoli and Beef as well as the Kung Pao Chicken. First they brought out their side dishes and their kimchi was soo I almost finished the whole plate. Once the food arrived everything was good and the flavor was spot on. What I really liked was their Cold noodle, it somehow reminded me of Korean Cold noodles but since the noodles were thicker it was more filling. It came with a peanut butter paste if you want to make it more nutty, even with the paste it was so refreshing. Now that the weather is getting hot I highly recommend it since it was very refreshing. I was surprised to see all of the highly rated reviews after my meal here. We arrived for an early dinner and the restaurant was empty. There was only one other party. There were three servers, but a different one stopped by our table each time. Because of this, service was inconsistent and inattentive. They forgot to bring us our ice water, and when we asked for an extra bowl they took quite a while. A previous reviewer perfectly described the food: "flat and flavorless". The noodles were well cooked but the onions in the jjajang were severely over cooked and soggy. The jjajang was so bland I had to add soy sauce to my bowl. My mom ordered the jjampong and it also was very bland. There was no spice or flavor. They did have a good amount of octopus and veggies. We ordered the gganpoong shrimp - this was well fried and the sauce texture was perfect, but again, it was flavorless. It's quite impressive how so many ingredients can taste so unappetizing and vapid. Maybe I came on a bad day? But I definitely won't return and can't recommend Shin Beijing. read more

Let me start this review by saying this place has THE BEST korean- chinese food. I was amazed with their signature shin beijing jjambbong, which is seafood white broth noodle soup. I am usually a fan of regular jjambbong which has red broth, but their signature shin beijing jjambbong nailed it. Secondly, I tried their spicy sweet and sour pork with sizzling rice was a dish, which I never saw in korean chinese food restaurant. The combination of sizzling rice and the hint of spicy flavor of the sweet and sour pork was amazing. We were only there for a group of two, so we couldn't order more than what we have tried, but I can't wait until I go back to try their other dishes! This was already one of our top Chinese restaurants in KoreaTown but this new menu shot it up to our favorite. Their new mala items are soo good -- it's the perfect combination of spicy and numbing. If you are a fan of mala, I highly recommend. They also do the popular items perfectly, like jjajangmyun and jjampong (TRY the mala version!!). The "obscure" ones are also very worth trying. But also a great place to grab a drink with nice main dishes. Last time the server recommended us shredded pork with buns and it went so well with a cold beer. I ordered Pecking Duck W / Chinese Roll worth $120 which is included with Fried rice , chop Suey and Chow Ma Soup. They've serve the Pecking Duck slice and I thought maybe it's just for tasting cuz it's just a couple of sliceeee! And some white bun. I'm thinking is that our main dish already??? They served it just few slices and it was COLD and CHEWY! expected to be at least the skin crunchy. Then they served the Fried rice , then the Chop Suey. The fried rice was good but the Chop Suey? Terrible. Looks like just a scrap veggie or leftover veggie, just cooked without any kind of ingredients and damp into the dish and served. Chow Ma Soup? TERRIBLE! I don't know how they cooked it and what kind of ingredients they put in it. You can't tell what it was. Taste like a salty water. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY IN THIS RESTAURANT.
