Tonight, Saturday, May 2nd, my whole family had dinner together at Plaza Mandarin House inside Koreatown Plaza. This is a Chinese restaurant that my family and I have been going to for about 25 years. Back then, we used to take a number and wait quite a while to get a table, but these days, it doesn't seem to be as crowded as it used to be. Tonight, we ordered three gan-jjajang, yusanseul ( Stir-fried Seafood and Pork in Starch Sauce), and sizzling rice soup, and everything was delicious. Usually, we order gan-jjajang and tangsuyuk, but since tangsuyuk is deep-fried and I thought it would be very bad for my mom's health, we didn't order it today. My mom recently had a health checkup, and she received a call from her doctor on Thursday afternoon. The doctor told her that her health is not in good condition and that she needs to get an MRI to know more accurately what is going on. It made me feel very sad, so I'm trying not to eat fried foods with her. We really enjoyed our meal here today, and all the servers were very kind. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The only thing was that since the restaurant is located downstairs, the internet connection was really bad at first, which was frustrating. But after I asked the server for the Wi-Fi password and connected to their Wi-Fi, the internet worked well, so that was nice.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Later, I found out that the family sitting at the table right next to us was the family of conductor Yongjae Kim, who conducted so impressively when we went to Walt Disney Concert Hall last year. My mom recognized him later and said hello. As I always feel, LA is really such a small world. Wherever I go, I run into people I know always & everywhere. What a small world. There were also two older female servers working there, and both of them were very kind. One of them had been working there for a long time ago, back when I used to go there often. Since it had been such a long time since I last visited, I was happy to see her and said hello, but she didn't recognize me. I thought that was understandable. But later, she came over and asked if we wanted to pack up the tangsuyuk we had ordered. We hadn't ordered tangsuyuk today, so I was confused about what she meant. This is my second go-to spot whenever I'm craving jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles) and tangsuyuk (fried pork with sweet and sour sauce). My usual first choice was closed until Wednesday, so I ended up here--and honestly, no regrets. Located inside a shopping plaza near H-Mart, it's easy to find and convenient for a quick fix. Service was quick and efficient, and the food? Hella delicious. The jjajangmyeon hit that rich, savory spot, and the tangsuyuk was perfectly crispy with just the right balance of sweet and tangy. I had the Jajangmyeon and Sweet and Sour Pork. Jajangmyeon is a staple of Korean-style Chinese cuisine and a true 'soul food' for many Koreans. What happen to this place? My family usually came here for Jajang myeog, seafood dish and sweet and sour pork. The restaurant was known for these dishes. Unfortunatey, these dishes were a total letdown mediocre at best. The Jajang was like soupy. The sweet and sour pork was tough and not crispy and the seafood was mostly vegetables. Also look closely at your bill. They charged on top of their menu price to my calculations 8.46%!!! I was charged normal tax approximately 10%. I left a 25% tip on top of that for the service that was non-existent. Mandarin House is located inside the koreatown plaza mall. The service was excellent. We were seated immediately and our waitress was very attentive. She took our order down quickly and we received our food in 10 minutes. We ordered the sweet & sour pork and the jajang myeon. My favorite has to be the sweet and sour pork! You dip the fried pork into the sweet and sour sauce and it's just so yummy! The pork had a good ratio of meat to batter. Would highly recommend! The jajang myeon was also decent, on the less saltier side but still good! This is a must try establishment located in a mall! I am from Houston, Texas and was recommended to try this place out. Let me start off by saying I was not disappointed at all. The customer service was great and courteous. I've had a lot of Korean food before, and I noticed each establishment makes them differently. I am okay with knowing that, and I think the dishes I had were great in taste, portion size, and texture. The kimchi may have been a bit spicy for me that day though as someone who doesn't handle spiciness well Overall, I had a great experience there and left with a smile and a full tummy. A classic koreatown staple for me. Been coming here since I was a kid and everything is just as good as I remembered. The cabbage kimchi is one of the best I've had at a Korean/chinese spot and the owners and workers are always so nice and prompt with whatever you need. The kkanpoong shrimp is so bomb, and the scorched rice soup is so comforting, especially on a cold day. Portions are huge and price is more than fair. read more

My coworkers and I stopped by for lunch. the restaurant wasn't too busy at peak lunchtime, so we were seated right away. The food did take some time to come out, though. The seafood Jajangmyun was a little blander than we expected, lacking some of the familiar flavors. My friend's Mapo Tofu was tasty--perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of spice. Ordered seafood jampong, fried dumplings and stir fried seafood over rice. The stir fried seafood did not come out until I finished my noodles. We had to ask twice and they kept saying it's coming without checking the kitchen. When it came out the squid in the seafood had an ammonia stench which means it's gone bad. When we told the waitress about the bad squid, she brought a small bowl and began picking out the squid. Our jaws dropped in disbelief. We asked her to take back the dish. The fried dumplings were over fried and tasted bitter. The service wasn't bad but was a typical matter of fact attitude. I called Jin Heung Gak around 4:10 PM to order tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) for pickup. When I asked how long it would take, the woman who answered the phone told me to come at 7 PM -- nearly three hours later! I told her it was only 4:10 right now, and then she suddenly changed it and said I could come by 5 PM instead. The whole conversation felt really off. I'm not sure if she couldn't speak Korean well or if she was just being rude, but her attitude was terrible. When I said I wanted to cancel the order, she hung up on me without saying a word. I'd probably give this place closer to 3.5 stars. For a group of 6 on New Year's day, the wait was about 20 minutes. We ordered the sweet and sour pork - which you dip into this broth? It was really good, definitely one of my favorite dishes. Pretty sure this is one of their most popular dishes as well. We also ordered the pan fried meat dumplings which were HUGE and so so crispy. These were SO GOOD. I'd come back here just for this. We also got the black bean noodle which is the reason this review is only 3 stars. I was pretty disappointed by this, especially since I think this place is known for this dish. The sauce tasted kind of watery and flavorless. Instead of getting this, I'd recommend the seafood soup, which was filled with much more flavor and was a delicious broth. I only had a sip of this out of my friend's bowl but this tasted better than the black bean noodle. By far the worst chinese restaurant in Ktown Los Angeles. There's a reason why their restaurant is always empty. They have the worst dishes - jjajjangmyun, tangsooyook are the worst I have EVER had in my life. So bland, no flavor, incorrectly cooked noodles and sauce. This is a solid restaurant to get Korean Chinese food in LA. The jjajangmyun here is good. My favorite is the sweet and sour shrimp. The shrimp is always crispy and the sauce has just the right amount of tang. The jjampong is good too. The restaurant is in the Koreatown plaza so it would be a good place to stop by after you're done shopping at the plaza if you don't want to eat at the food court. read more

Solid jjajangmyun and jjampoong in the heart of ktown! Their sauce is flavorful, well balanced, and the noodles are always cooked perfectly! Love that wok seared flavor for that perfect bowl of noodles! We absolutely loved their beef tangsuyuk! Super crispy on the outside. Love that the batter isn't too thick or dense! The sauce is perfectly sweet and savory. I like to dip my tangsuyuk instead of pouring the sauce all over to maintain the crispness. I came here with a party of 6 on a Monday around 1pm. The restaurant is located in a mall, so there was convenient free garage parking. We were seated in ~15-20 mins. My boyfriend and I payed for our food and proceeded to leave the restaurant and the waitress ran after us because of an unhappy tip. She wanted a bigger one. She said "did you not like my service" and asked for more money. The whole entire time we were there she didn't come to check if everything was fine. She ignored us, and we were the only ones eating there. The restaurant was empty. So we tipped as what we thought was right. The fact that a waitress ran after us over an unhappy tip was crazy and very new to me. I felt pressured to tip more but I didn't give in so she rolled her eyes at us and walked away. The owner is this older Korean gentleman who is extremely kind and caring. Although he and my family aren't necessarily close friends, he always greeted us like we were. Is this the most authentic Korean-Chinese restaurant in Koreatown? No, not necessarily. Will it satiate your cravings for jam-pong (hot spicy seafood soup) and jjajangmyeon (black bean noodle dish)? Absolutely. I'm an avid fan of jjajangmyeon. To the point where I could eat it every day and not complain. I've definitely had better jjajangmyeon in the area, but this place will not disappoint. Their prices are on par with other restaurants, but their portions are MUCH bigger. If you and your friends are hungry and looking for decent Korean-Chinese food, definitely give this place a try. i may be biased because i've come here so many times with my dad and family friends, but i think the ambiance and service here is great. staff are always kind and it's pretty relaxed, as it's just in a mall. i appreciate how laid back it feels. the food is alright, not terrible but also not something to write home about. if you like korean-chinese food, you should try it, but there are probably other places you could try too. convenient, quick, and pretty good. read more

This is our go to Korean/Chinese restaurant. The service is quick and the food is delicious. We usually get the combination fried rice, jjang ppong, ja jjang myun, jjang poung shrimp, and the beef tang su yyuk. Sometimes we get the 8 types of seafood dish, mabu tofu, and the fried mandu. All are amazing and highly recommend. The inside is kind of small but the turnover is usually pretty quick. read more

Review #299 - 2018 After my not so relaxing ride from Disneyland Hotel back to LAX & then waiting to get picked up, I had a major headache so I wanted some spicy soup to clear my head and jampong was the next best thing that I could think of. I thought of going back to the place that I'd ordered from before, but the MIL told me that she knows of a better place around the condo so she called and placed an order for me. We showed up around 7:30 PM on September 26th, and my order was already waiting on the counter. We get home and I pour it into a pretty big bowl, but it didn't fit everything so I ended up splitting the order with the MIL. It was a lot bigger than most places I've ordered from. Sadly, the flavor was just so-so. It wasn't bad, but the spicy level was average so it didn't hit the spot. I guess I should've read the reviews first before agreeing to her suggestion. If you're looking for super chewy delicious Korean noodles, Plaza Mandarin House is the place to check out. It's hidden next to the elevator on the first floor. ~PARKING~ Plaza Mandarin House is located in the Korean Plaza Market, so there's plenty of parking in the huge parking structure. On the weekdays you have to validate your parking ticket for free 3 hours. Parking is free on the weekends. ~FOOD~ They give you complimentary tea when you dine in. I ordered the Kkampoong shrimp, Spicy seafood noodle, and Black bean noodle. The Kkampoong shrimp is essentially like sweet and sour chicken, but with shrimp. I really liked this dish. The shrimps were HUGE and tender. The only issue was that after awhile the batter gets soggy, but it's still so delicious. The black bean noodle is also very good. Don't be scared off by the black color. It's very flavorful and the noodles are perfectly cooked with the perfect amount of chewiness to them. The spicy seafood noodle was by far my favorite. The amount of seafood that they pack in there is so generous. You get your octopus and shrimp and pork meat. If you don't like the taste of seafood, I wouldn't recommend this because it screams seafood. The soup is spicy, not unbearable, but it's spicy. Again, their noodles were on point with the texture. ~TIP~ I would recommend coming here with two people or more so you can try different dishes. I shared both noodles and the Kkampoong shrimp with 2 other people and it was the best decision ever. I got to nom nom on a little of everything! ~FINAL CRITIC~ I absolutely LOVE their noodles. One of the worst korean chinese places I've been to. JjaJanMyeon, JjamPong, Sweet Sour Pork, all flavorless. Never coming back here again.

I've been coming here for years, since my childhood days. Whenever I need my Korean black bean noodle fix, I either come here or Young King. My preference is Young King, but the parking over there stinks. The parking at Plaza Mandarin is quite easy because it's located in the infamous KTP plaza. I like to come here with friends and family to eat here, then detox at Bosco Bakery. In any event, over the years, the quality of the black bean noodle has been degrading. It's become more bland and a bit watered down. I prefer my black bean noodle rich with sauce and somewhat thick. It used to be like this back in the days (maybe early 2000s), but not anymore. I also like the sweet and sour pork here, but still, Young King reigns for this dish too. The batter was crispy and pork flavor come through. The dipping sauce was mediocre as it was missing the sour component. All in all, if I don't want to wait in line, I'll continue to get my Korean-Chinese fix here, but please do check out Young King. read more

Good quality, tasty albeit slightly pricey compared to other Korean-Chinese places, it's been my family's go-to since the 90's

My boyfriend ordered a bunch of food from here on postmates. We ordered fried rice, black bean noodle, seafood soup, and jelly fish salad. In the midst of eating i found one piece of hair in the jelly fish salad, as a previous food industry worker i understand situations happen on accident so i didn't think much of it. Then eating the jelly fish salad we found a huge piece of plastic that one of us could of literally chocked on. Im currently still trying to figure out what it is...The meals usually come with onions on the side with a dipping sauce, but while picking one of the onions out, I pulled another longer piece of hair.. i don't understand how so many things can be found in one order. I really hope we don't get sick and i really hope this establishment can improve on their health safety. read more
