Update: the ramen has been tasting different since the first time we ordered. Too much lemon? It has a sour taste to it. Please don't change your yellow curry recipe. I've come in a few more times to dine in. This is the best Thai food in Long Beach. Generous portions, excellent prices, and flavorful dishes. Everything I've ordered here has been good. Even the sushi and Japanese curry is good. I love their pad see ew. I judge all Thai food places on their pad see ew. This one is really tasty. Their yellow curry is also very good. Every time I come in, there is never a wait to be seated. That's good for us but it doesn't feel very lively. I think it's because not many people are aware or know of this place. It used to be called Your House which was also a Thai fusion restaurant. The food sucked. So I'm glad this place replaced it. Will definitely keep coming back for the food. Never a wait here, the food is reasonably priced, they have a great happy hour that appears to be all the time or at least I've never managed to go when they weren't having a happy hour. Not the greatest sushi or Thai in the world but still good enough to enjoy and the prices are reflective of the quality. The Salmon sashimi is on par with great sushi at least the times I've had it. I was a regular visitor when this place was "Your House" and generally had great experiences with the food and service. When it switched over to SHIN, I was happy that the space was going to be used for a similar type of establishment. However, the last three visits were less than decent with the last visit on Saturday (7/20/19) being one of the worst restaurant experiences in recent memory. I brought a friend from out of town to the spot because I had raved about the Asian fusion menu. When we arrived there were only a few occupied tables but the restaurant interior was extremely warm and uncomfortable (I don't know if the air conditioning was working or not) so we decided to sit outside on the patio. The first thing we noticed was how absolutely filthy the tables were. Granted this was outside and it looked like they'd recently been doing construction, but as someone who has worked food service and retail, there's no reason there should be a thick layer of dust on a table once you seat customers. That's something that should be done before we sit down or at the very least, after the server has had a moment to settle us at the table. But what made this experience even worse was the incredibly lackluster service. It appeared that they were understaffed - again, as a former retail employee I totally understand if you're short-handed - but the two servers only gave us drinks and never returned to check if we needed anything unless I flagged them down. Meanwhile, OTHER TABLES around us were being serviced with regularity. This situation continued until we decided to leave without EATING. I settled my bill for the drinks and promptly left. My friend was disappointed and I was angry for wasting our time. And we were still hungry. They say the 3rd time is the charm. I've had 3 unfavorable experiences in a row and that's told me that SHIN does not want my business at all. So while I have had great memories of Your House and excellent meals in the past, I'm closing the book on SHIN. I won't be returning and I will make certain I never recommend the place to friends or colleagues in the area. This was such a horrible restaurant experience. I hope they improve in the future, but they've permanently lost a regular diner. Visit there with caution if you choose not to heed my warning. read more

Had dinner with friends last night (a decent size group that they had no problem at all accommodating) not only did we have a great time but the food was also amazing. The prices are fantastic especially for the amount of food they serve, most places that offer more than one style of cuisine usually will fall flat on one type, but not here. We all ordered a range of meals from the sashimi, to Thai food, to the ramen and not a single one of us had a bad thing to say. Ryan was our server and he was very attentive, always checking in to refill glasses and take away empty plates. This restaurant was a great find, I'm so glad we came. I can't believe I have been missing out on this place!!! I went here for the 1st time last night and it was so good!! I got the Japanese Curry with rice. It came with chicken katsu. It was so delicious!!! I love that they have veggies in the curry as well!! I also shared a roll with my boyfriend, it was called King of King. So yummy, it had eel, cream cheese, imitation crab and avocado. So delicious!! I had a side of miso soup which was very flavorful, not watered down like most places. Dined outdoors and ordered a ton of food. Service was fast and friendly. Miso soup had good flavor, but the seaweed was too chewy. Pad Thai was too greasy but tasty, the crunchy roll was delicious. Chicken katsu moist and crispy, chicken yellow curry delightfully spicy, but potatoes were slightly undercooked. The calamari was not restaurant quality; it looked and tasted like the bagged junk you buy in the frozen foods section of Food4Less. It was pleasant to get out again. Wow.... where was this hidden gem all along?? Delicious EVERYTHING!! Yellow tail jalapeno is PERFECT! This is our first time so we're trying out Ramen. Lemme tell ya, they're amazing. If you like coconut thai broth then you have to order them Tum kha....ohhhhh And its loaded with shrimps. Talk about generous servings. They have a nice outdoor patio, extensive menu and good service. We were fortunate to catch their happy hour (3-7 every day) and so had some high quality sushi at great prices. The crunch roll was a standout. I would have given 5 stars but for the surprise that came with the bill; 18% automatic gratuity even though we were only two people. 3.5 stars at most. Came here because of the reviews, proximity to where we were visiting in Long Beach, and the fiance wanted good ramen. This is where Shin comes along. Yelpers said the ramen is the best and everything else is ok. So what do we order? 1 shoyu ramen, one miso ramen, and 1 salmon skin hand roll (fiancé loves salmon skin). Waitress takes our orders and repeats back what we ordered.. that's a plus. Everything was correct so far. Got a hand roll first... looked like spicy salmon hand roll instead of salmon skin. Fiancé poked and prodded it before I told him to stop since it obviously wasn't the correct order. We waved the same waitress down and stated we ordered a salmon skin hand roll and were given something else. It took another waitress who seemed to know what she was doing to come by and correct our order, and assured us we could have the incorrect one on the house since they couldn't serve it to someone else now. Understandable and I liked their attentiveness. Then we were served our ramen orders really quick....I mean it was literally a few minutes after our orders were taken. The second waitress from earlier rushed out and said those weren't our bowls and belonged to another table. It's a good thing we didn't eat or touch anything yet. The ones delivered to us were shoyu ramen and spicy miso ramen. Meanwhile our first waitress looked clueless about what to do in both situations. Once we received our correct orders we dug in. Fiancé was quick to note that it was one of the best salmon skin hand rolls he has ever had and that they packed in a lot of salmon skin. The spicy salmon hand roll was equally good and filled with a lot of salmon. The ramen was really good too. Just as good as a bowl I love in San Diego (Mitsuwa if you're ever down there). I wish the eggs were a little more soft boiled than hard boiled and would have done better with my ramen. No MSG because I didn't have any allergic reactions (yeah I'm really sensitive to MSG) which is also good. There's also a lot of meat in the ramen so it is a hearty bowl. The menu is large (rice dishes, salads, ramen, sushi, etc.) and there are tasty looking pictures. Was food good? Yes. Do they need more training? Possibly. I mean it could have just been a bad night. My dad and I decided to check this place out in the early afternoon. When we walked in, there was only one other family there, and we were greeted warmly by the staff. The Thai menu was what brought us in, but I caved once I saw Miso Ramen on the menu because it's harder to find good ramen further from LA than Thai food. My dad ordered shrimp and beef Pad See Ew (after a friendly warning about an extra charge for double protein from our waitress). I loved our waitress, who was sososo sweet and polite. But we had a lot of little blips that made our overall experience a little lukewarm. First, our drinks came in nice chilled glasses with that delicious crumbly ice- but it had been frozen into these giant iceberg like structures that left next to no room for soda. We needed refills almost immediately. I realized once I saw the bendy part of my dad's straw that mine was upside down. Simple mistakes but it gave the impression that overall the drinks were prepared hastily. When our food arrived, my dad asked for hot sauce. As she turned around I knew I'd lose her for a bit, so I had to hurriedly ask for refills, but also please napkins, and also utensils while she was at it. It was a little off-putting that our dishes were both served only with the spoon, the serving spoon in my dad's case, especially since I've never been served ramen without the chopsticks already there. It seemed as if everything she could've anticipated we would need was something we had to ask for. As I dug into my ramen, which was pretty awesome, my dad commented, "This isn't hot." I stared at the sriracha he'd just added but he corrected himself- it seemed as though the pad see ew had been finished first, and set on the counter to wait while the ramen cooked through. When I tried it was very tasty but indeed lukewarm. He also mentioned the tiny bits of beef ("it's almost ground up") that accompanied fewer big pieces. We tend to visit more Chinese restaurants then Thai or Japanese, but I've definitely seen a table set apart with a box to place prepared place settings before. I saw one of these at a central table but was a little amused to see it was in a giant toilet paper box. Maybe another person would've been less amused if they didn't know why that box was mid-restaurant. Curiously, the only time I was offered a refill was while sipping my very full cup after our meal, as she handed us the check. My dad has worked as a chef and I've got some experience in food service as well, so we were kind enough regarding our friendly waitress. She was waiting the entire restaurant's tables by herself- "new management," where you at??? That's not super cool. Still, we both couldn't shake the thought that she needed to be snappier and more attentive in general. ALL IN ALL- solid food, could use more customers to boost staff performance/speed and bring the service to the same level. read more

I ordered Tom Kha (hot pot style) w/ flat noodles on the side and my bf ordered Boat noodle. We first received the Tom Kha and I noticed that there was no fire lit on the bottom of pot, I was so hungry that I didn't even want to bring it to the server's attention! Another customer ordered soup in the same pot like ours and there soup had the fire lit under the pot. Once I saw that I was so pissed, I felt like the server did that on purpose. The boat noodle soup was bland!! The soup looked almost clear, The meat was over cooked and hard to chew. The server had a bad attitude ever since we arrived at the restaurant. She also didn't even come by to check on us, it's not like the restaurant was busy either! We didn't even finish our food because the service was so fucking wack. Went here specifically because I was lured in by the free Thai iced teas! We checked in and got a free one for each person; such a win! For the appetizers: We got a garlic Edamame (my favorite part), and a seaweed salad (so good). For the main courses: I ordered a Paradise roll with scallop which was delicious! It was fresh as expected and the flavor was satisfying. My friend got a Miso ramen, and devoured the whole thing down to the bowl. My fiancé ordered a Hawaiian Poke, which was the only dish we can recommend improvements on. He stated that the citrus dressing was a bit too much. Usually it is merely the fish that is marinated in the dressing and not the entire bowl. All in all we enjoyed our dinner, but likely won't come back here for poke.
