I live nearby and have frequented Shin many times. I love that it offers ramen and sushi. Perfect for the days you can't decide what to eat. Service is great.. theyre attentive and friendly. Food is always good.. I love the ramen broth options and sushi options. There's a cute and relaxing little patio ambience. Parking is plentiful, I never have issues looking for a place to park. I took one star off only because when it's hot out, sometimes the air circulation is bothersome. I don't think they run ac.. just fans. I have always wondered about this place because it looks beautiful outside with all the trees and greenery, but it always seems a bit lonely. If I'm not mistaken, I want to say the name has changed a couple times, but I could be confusing it for another restaurant on PCH. Plenty of parking though in their private lot. That time my dad ordered their Tom Kha ramen, I ordered the Love Potion roll and, my daughter got the Super California roll. We also got an order of egg rolls to share. Everything was do delicious, and I knew I had to come back to get the ramen for myself. I love how it's a mix of Thai and Ramen together in the bowl. So 2 nights ago, that is just what I did. Came back with my daughter and I ordered the Tom Kha ramen and the same two sushi rolls. I opted for the small ramen bowl which was only $9 and sufficient. It comes with chicken, mushrooms and half of a perfectly soft boiled egg. I'll have to get an extra piece next time! My daughter enjoys California rolls and also likes unagi, so the Super California is the perfect roll! Even I like it a lot. The Love Potion has shrimp tempura and pickled jalapeño inside and is topped with tuna, mango, masago and green onion. It also has the little crunchy flakes on top but isn't technically a crunch roll. It is such a flavor bomb, even my daughter likes it, but she prefers to pick out the jalapeño pieces. This time around, it was more full. There was only one lady taking the orders, bringing out drinks and food to the tables, handling to-go orders, taking care of the bill. I don't know if this is usually the case, she was nice and efficient enough, but not having any help did slow things down a bit. It won't deter me from coming back though. I feel like the sushi keeps getting better here, we try other spots like I Luv Sushi or when traveling and when we come back here it's like wow this is really good. The presentation is great too. Plenty of parking, a great happy hour 3-7 and lots of other options for people who don't like sushi. Their mango sticky rice when available is also amazing. Service is always quick and pleasant. Decided to give this place a try as it was a Japanese Thai fusion. It wasn't busy at the time of arrival so service was speedy and the staff were attentive and friendly. I allowed myself to get carried away by all the enthusiastic reviews, so I arrived with high expectations. I eagerly anticipated the Thai ramen to blow me away, but I stayed put. What's equally unexpected was how good the sweet mango rice was. I am glad that my son ordered that dessert for us to share. The ramen wasn't bad, but I expected more from the broth. It's easy to get ramen at many places in Long Beach, but ramen with a Thai twist was certainly novel. I was hoping for more exotic spices, and it came up more mundane. I also expected more customers on a Sunday evening, but the relatively large indoor dining area only had a few tables occupied. I think the post-pandemic surge in restaurant dining has significantly ebbed. Service was both attentive and efficient. We placed our orders right away, and we didn't have to wait long for our food. The restaurant is an establishment on its own with their own parking lot. It's not in a plaza shared with other businesses which I can appreciate because I don't come across many restaurants like this. There's plenty of seatings outdoor and indoor. Their restroom needs a little TLC. I love that they offer Happy Hour 3p-7p. My son and I ordered the cheese wontons which was completely different than what I was expecting which was the cream cheese wontons. These wontons were made with actual cheese and tempura. You can choose between Tom Yum (clear shrimp broth) Ramen and Tom Kha (coconut milk shrimp broth) ramen. You can choose your protein: chicken, pork or shrimp. I chose shrimp. The restaurant also has Singha beer (which imho is better than Sapporo/Asahi) I ordered the Tom kha ramen and some Som Tum (Papaya salad). Let me tell you- this papaya salad was FRESH and had the PERFECT amount of peanuts and spiciness level for us Americans (NGL, my ass was sweating in Thailand with their spiciness levels). Anyway- the freshness of the papaya salad with lime just made me feel like I was back in Thailand. Every time the waitress dropped off food I was like "Kop Kun Krup" (male version of thank you) After almost finishing my food the waitress stopped by and asked if everything was ok- I responded with "AROI!" (Delicious!). The waitress was amused I knew some Thai and relayed the compliment to the chef. On my way out I noticed they had 2 ceremonial headdresses on the bar counter. I thanked the chef and snap a pic, and headed out. PS: I sat on a booth by a leaky roof- it didn't bother me at all. The waitress displayed the same humble Thai welcoming hospitality.
