I really liked the feel of the restaurant. Very nice decor. They desperately need a beer and wine license. According to Pui, our lovely and ever-so charming waitress, their license is in the works. I had the sashimi salad and the caterpillar roll. The salad was devine. Very fresh tuna and salmon. The cistrus vinaigrette gave the dish a nice brightness. I love a good caterpillar roll. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE SHIN! The crowd is great, hipster to bipster (blue collar hipster) plus neighborhood fams w/ kids. The place has a cool vibe, 1 part tiki bar, 1 part diner and 1 part sushi bar. The menu is totally eclectic and it's all good but I really love the King of Kings Sushi Roll and the Tomahkha soup. Oh, and if your not afraid (of calories) order the Thai Ice Tea. I had the spicy miso ramen at lunch. A bit pricey for this area of town at $12. The ingredients were good but the broth was too wimpy. Too much like the free miso soup they give away at cheap all-you-can-eat sushi restaurants, rather than the unctuous broth I expected. I'll try something else next time. My boyfriend and I love to come here, probably once every two weeks. They have such a large menu with variety, we try something new every time. We have never had a dish that didn't blow our minds. Food was ok got the DFC. Did I just pay $3 for a canned coke? Service was terrible no one was there to greet you the chef was on his cell phone and couldn't hear when I was trying to get his attention he finally looks up and I ask for a menu he gets me one then I'm ready to order and no one is there so I ask the chef where do I order? He finally screams for the lady working that's in the back she comes out and takes my order took 15min of my 30 min lunch to get food. My boyfriend and I were searching for a place that have Thai food and sushi because he wanted Thai and I wanted sushi and we came across this place . Everyday is happy hour from 5pm to 8pm ? ( I don't exactly remember ) but the beers are $3 and the pitcher is $10 , sushi are pick 3 for $25 , a really good deal . We got the kings sushi , pad se ew and pad kee mao . Everything was so delicious and we left full and satisfied. The food did take quite a while to get out but overall service was great . We will definitely be back . read more

My husband (Wild Bill) & I decided to go to the opening day and opening hour (noon) of SHIN RESTAURANT. Formerly the restaurant in this location was YOUR HOUSE but that owner sold it to this new restaurant enterprise. Indeed we were the very first customer. It was a great pleasure to see that one of the waitresses from the former establishment (I believe her name is Jah?) was there to serve us. She is very friendly & helpful.From the many choices in the menu, we decided to start off with hot green tea, then a house salad, a Sunonomo (cucumber salad) and a seaweed salad. All were fresh and quite delicious. I especially liked the seaweed salad. For the main entrees, we had the grilled salmon rice bowl/plate with garlic fried rice (for $12), and the Yakisoba (Japanese sir-fried noodles with vegetables). We shared both dishes together, and finished them all to the last kernel of rice and the last noodle. My husband said he really liked the sauce on the Yakisoba. He initially thought he should play it safe with Pad Thai but decided to risk ordering the Yakisoba (& he was happy he did) for $10. He would definitely order it again. Next time later this week we will probably try the "Paradise" Shin's Roll meal of baked fish of your choice (salmon, yellowtail, scallops) for about $13. I may try the Japanese curry on pork over rice. For appetizer, we may try the tempura combo for $7 (2 shrimp tempura & 4 vegetable tempura). This comes I believe with miso soup & rice. There is also the "Tendon" of assorted tempura over rice larger dish for $11. Hours are 11 am to 3 pm for lunch, then 5 pm to 9:30 or 10 pm (weekends) for dinner. It is open everyday. The restaurant is located at 2838 E. PCH in Long Beach, CA 90804 (across PCH is the city of Signal Hill border). The phone # is (562)498-4949. I believe they are in the process of serving beer & wine (pending at the moment). So it will be nice to have a draft beer there as well. Once again we highly recommend this new restaurant. This place used to be called Our House. My husband and I used to love coming here. They offered Thai and Sushi. He loves Thai and I love sushi. But over time it started to go down hill. Today we came in to celebrate my moms bday and the experience today sucked beyond all. First off, the music was was NOT at all family friendly. The use of the F-Bomb was used repeatedly in the song that was playing. My two year old is in that phase of repeating words she hears, and she was with us. If I hadn't asked for the music to be changed, it wouldn't have been. There were other families in the restaurant as well as older people in there eating. Not the kind of music you want to eat too. We asked for saki... couldn't get it. No liquor license . My husbands miso soup had a gnat floating in it. The food he ordered wasn't what he asked for and the service was super slow. The ONLY god thing about the night was that the 2 sushi rolls I ordered were delicious. Oh, and my moms dish was ok. Needless to say, we will not be eating here again. No saki, beer or food service?? Me and my girlfriend have been here twice. The first time we went for lunch and everything absolutely amazing. Great service and delicious food. We decided to come back a month later for dinner and the service wasn't so great. The restaurant wasn't crowded so there's really no excuse. First, the waitress got my ramen order wrong and when we talked to someone about it, the original waitress came back and said that that was what I ordered and I was wrong. I'm a server myself and this was not anything I would ever say to a customer. I wasn't wrong. I even asked questions about the original soup I had ordered so I didn't think there would be any confusion. Our sushi rolls took longer than expected but when my correct soup came out it was delicious. Everything I had wanted. Problem after that was that no one came over to check on us after that or ask if everything was okay or anything like that. Had to wave someone down for the check. Which they were quick about. My friend and I went to Shin for the first time. We liked that it had Thai, sushi and Chinese food. We ordered Thai pad and a spicy beef salad. Both entrees were delicious. The spicy beef salad had a good kick of spiciness but not so spicy that you couldn't taste the salad. The restaurant was clean and we had great service. On the menu, it doesnt mention the extra charge at all. They need to say that! After ordering, price was just updated. I called the restaurant, and asked them. They just argued that they did not update the menu about extra charge. They must ask!!!!!! But just charged and updated $3. I asked them why did you just charged but they hanged up the phone!!!!!???? Wth terrible restaurant and terrible service. If i didnt check my email, i might not know about the extra charged. They just didnt update the menu with extra charge, and make the customer pay for that AFTER ORDERING. Need to be careful for the price. Terrible sushi restaurant i have ever had.
