It was my first time here, but it was definitely worth the stop. My friend and I came here for a quick coffee after dinner and had a great time. The barista had us try their Bali tea which is super delicious and has a unique bitter taste to it. She ordered a matcha and I got a lavender latte. Both drinks were delicious and made quickly. The music is super calming and creates a beachy ambiance. Overall, we had a great time and would recommend this stop!

Visited for the first time today, my bf & I have lived nearby for the last 6 months but we hadn't gotten a chance to try it until now. We loved it!! He got an Iced Lavender Latte - the lavender is pretty light flavor-wise, but noticeable if you're looking for it! I got an Iced Matcha Latte (they don't serve chai, which is my normal iced order placed, so the girl working helped me & even added some sweetened condensed milk which was so good & I hadn't tried before!) -- everything was delicious and served quickly! Also shout out to Irena, she was so sweet and helpful and answered all my questions!

I will say that I am a huge fan of the alternative and eclectic businesses. And when it comes to that retro vibe, there isn't many places in Midtown Sacramento that shine as much as "Shine". This place has been around since 2010 and as recently as 2020, new ownership took over which further added the creativeness that the business offers. The end result was combining a coffee shop, bar, live music venue, kava lounge, and restaurant with small bites all under one roof. Located directly at the corner of 14th and E St. in a quieter part of the Midtown/Alkali Flat, this place can be easily missed with the lush landscaping and trees surrounding it. Parking is surprisingly easy to find since this area is away from all the hustle and bustle. I ended up coming here during the morning of Friday 10/20/23 at around 10:20am before my 11:00am dentist appointment right down the street. Upon entering, it was not busy at all as this was past the morning rush. Since I had not yet gotten my coffee, I glanced at the menu to see what kind of selections they were offering. Since I was craving something cold and sweet, my heart was set on an iced "Caramel Latte". The order only took a couple minutes as it absolutely had the bitterness of the espresso combined with the sweetness of the caramel. I proceeded towards the rear of the building while enjoying my drink. As I mentioned, this place has a trendy, hip, and almost Polynesian vibe to it. The wicker chair I sat on had a plush pillow on it while gold letters that read "SHINE" were directly above that. You will also notice an abundance of live plans as well as paintings that resemble more of a Tiki-bar theme to it. I think the overall atmosphere is a lot of fun when you factor in the live music. I also would like coming here during the evening hours and try some of their kava drinks. They are opened for business 7 days a week from 9am-9pm. All in all, "Shine" is a must-try place that I highly recommend. My rating, an above average four stars.

Vanilla whole milk and 2 shots of espresso $7.28 do not recommend

I came on Sunday to charge my car rental. Luckily they opened at 9am and I was able to enjoy a drink in the morning while waiting for my car to charge. Anyways I came in and ordered something different today. Last time I got a Carmel macchiato and this time I got a vanilla latte. It tastes so weird. I asked the barista (a nice young lady) what was the milk they used. They used the Costco whole milk which I drink everyday. It's not that. For vanilla they use the standard vanilla brand and that wasn't it either so I have no idea what was in the drink. Maybe the coffee bean??? Anyways it was not drinkable. The drink came out to be $7.28. Not sure what I'm going to do with this drink. Suck it up and swallow it or bring it home and redo it so I can actually enjoy it. Next time I come I'm sticking with my caramel macchiato and not be adventurous. Sigh

Their coffee is So over-priced! The large regular coffee with milk was over $6 I feel for the Barista, because at that price, she didn't get a tip.

The "Willie Nelson Dude "behind the counter IS NOT AN EMPLOYEE- He's literally a neighborhood Volunteer Person who helps out his community and the Neighbors who live close by. The young ppl that work here tend to be solo workers. This place is its own thing and instead of LEADING WITH EXPECTATIONS- find out what's going on. This place has morphed into its own thing. Often times - more so than Always... you'll be waiting - you gotta be here on a day you're not in a rush. Come here on a day off... Frank aka everyone's friend AINT HERE FOR YOU. Try em again another time. The food is good- the coffee is better now that they switched and if you can't handle a bunch of dudes bro'n out... skip it here.

I love coming here and ordering the Bali tea I get a half gallon for home it makes you feel great if you need a boost of energy. It's also a great place to hangout with friends. The staff are nice, great service

Under new owners, it's really just a coffee shop. The now very limited food menu included a very underwhelming small waffle, pedestrian grilled cheese sandwich ("with basil" means dried basil sprinkled inside). The grilled ham and cheese croissant was fine. A latte was also solid but nothing to write home about. They do some live music on Thursdays but the barista said it's no longer an open mic. Wish the business hadn't had to go through this.

Service is as fast as it can be during lunch hour rush, and I haven't been disappointed yet with my orders. The workers have always been helpful and answered any questions about the menu or even helped with recommendations. The ambiance isn't anything special. It's like most sandwich spots with tables, chairs and a restroom for customers. You're probably not pulling out your laptop to do any work or catch a vibe there unless listening to music and sending emails in a sandwich restaurant is your thing. My go-to order is the Amuna's Tuna on Dutch crunch with everything on it except jalapeños. If you're feeling a little lucky, you can get a combo meal with chips and a drink. They also sell big cookies. You also get a nice caramel apple sucker candy with your order. Like most restaurants these days, and especially restaurants in midtown, you're looking at $15-$20 for a sandwich and combo. It's pricey.

For starters, Ike's has its own way of doing things: plain mayo is not their thing. Only way to get plain mayo on a sandwich is to get lucky that there's a smidgen still left in a jar in the fridge after they prepare their house spread. They mix GARLIC and gawd knows what else for spices to make their Ike's sauce, so allergies beware. They offer plain mustard, but not plain mayo? For seconds, the sandwich bread is not up to the challenge of holding together the mountain of fillings inside. Pics prove my point. I want to eat a sandwich with my hands, not a plastic fork (or a shovel). And I don't want to wear it, not in public. Proportions, people! One size does not fit all. Now, in fairness, the meat, cheese, lettuce and tomato were fresh, chilled, and flavorful. However, IMHO $2.00+ to add equivalent of half an avocado is robbery when a whole avocado is $1 in the market. Fortunately I arrived when there wasn't another person in the store so I was able order up a plain ham and cheese sub with L, T, and A. The counter person was patient as I attempted to navigate the menu board. I communicated my wish for a simple sandwich and it arrived, albeit ridiculously overstuffed and above my budget expectations. Props for kindness and understanding. My first visit to any shop is always testing how well they do basics. So far, I'm not an Ike's fan. I'm no newcomer to sub sandwiches. At 82, and being a Massachusetts native, I've been a sub girl for at least 75 years, ever since I could wrap my fingers around the perfect sub roll.
