My to-go order is the Hornet on a Dutch crunch roll with everything on it except mustard. Make it a combo with chips and a drink, and you'll have an incredible lunch. The ambiance is different from other sandwich spots in midtown. The chairs and tables are older and worn, and it's small inside, but it's also inside an old house that was converted into a restaurant. That alone makes this place unique. People hang out inside or outside with friends and enjoy the vibes. There's a real sense of community that the Sandwich Spot brings along with uniquely crafted sandwiches. All of the sandwiches are named after people or landmarks in Sacramento. The staff are all friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and will help you with recommendations if you're not sure which sandwich to get. It honestly feels like you're in the company of good friends. Was so pleasantly surprised by how good this sandwich was! We were in town for the weekend and found the spot on the whim based on proximity to the Farmers Market. It seemed popular so we stopped by, and it became one of our favorites from the weekend. My go-to sandwiches are #19 The Dosky (hot turkey, prosciutto, avocado, swiss cheese) and #23 The Hornet (marinated chicken, prosciutto, creamy pesto, provolone cheese). You order your sandwich at the counter then pay at the register. I like that there are always menus at the counter where you order, so you can see the bread, cheese, and condiment choices. There are tables on the porch outside and inside. This Sandwich Spot is located in an old house, so you have to go up steps to get into the shop. There isn't a ramp from what I can see. There is a gender neutral single person bathroom. There is street parking, you will probably have to parallel park. Pay attention to the signs so you don't get a ticket. This small location in an old midtown house turned store front that has hardwood flooring, plenty of inside seating and a restroom. I always add on the chocolate chip cookies and jalapeño potato chips which compliment every Sando in my opinion. The workers are fast and friendly. Ample street parking. Closes quite early so be sure to come before 3pm (LUNCH HOURS) Today I ordered 3 sandos. My mom and son both got the Kings Court with pepper jack on a French roll. I've always had great experiences with The Sandwich Spot! The original location is one of my favorite places. Unfortunately, my recent visit to this particular location was a major letdown. From the moment we walked in, the experience felt off. There was no greeting or acknowledgment--just a cook standing behind the counter silently nodding at us to order. The ordering process felt rushed and uncomfortable, as the cook rapidly fired off condiment options with an aggressive tone more fitting for a drill sergeant than a sandwich shop. After placing our order for two turkey sandwiches, we were told it would take about 10 minutes. We ended up waiting nearly 25, during which another customer who came in after us received their food first. When the cook finally dropped off our order, the cook slammed our food on our table and leaned over it to tell us, "Next time you need to tell the person at checkout you ordered pepper jack instead of cheddar--that's considered an add-on. I did you a favor this time." This comment felt unnecessary and accusatory, especially since he was the one who took the order in the first place and then just sent us over to pay for it with some other person. It left us feeling more uncomfortable and confused about why the cook is taking orders and not informing the cashier? Like why are we responsible, is it not your job to communicate with your peers what we ordered? Confused. This experience didn't reflect the warm, welcoming vibe I've come to expect from The Sandwich Spot. I left disappointed, and honestly, hesitant to return to this location. The location cannot be beat. The Sandwich Spot is a couple block walk from where I live! The convenience is incredible (but also not the best for my wallet, ha!). I typically get the Governor on wheat roll, which is a turkey sandwich with cream cheese and all the fixings! Be sure to get their legendary Bomb Sauce (both on the sandwich and on the side)! Seriously, I don't know what they put in that stuff but it is GOLD!! I even get TWO sides of it at times, it's that good! Service is impeccable. They're extremely quick getting these sandwiches out, even when they're slammed during the lunch rush. A tip- be sure to call your order in ahead of time so you can skip the line! As far as ambiance/ environment is concerned, you can eat here but I'd call this more of a takeout place. At least that's what I do. In a nutshell, I HIGHLY recommend The Sandwich Spot.
