    19. The Doskey Sandwich
    Grace H.

Was so pleasantly surprised by how good this sandwich was! We were in town for the weekend and found the spot on the whim based on proximity to the Farmers Market. It seemed popular so we stopped by, and it became one of our favorites from the weekend. We got the dosky to share with the dutch crunch bread and it was perfectly toasted, perfectly balanced and just a really solid sandwich. The sauce was great and not too overpowering. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were surprised by the steady stream of people filing in and filling the shop too, it was a nice lunch experience overall![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Would definitely recommend trying it out.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]This has to be my favorite Sandwich Spot location. Located in midtown Sac surrounded by nice shady trees in a former home.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] A great variety of sandwiches (salads too) are offered and they are a satisfying size. Their Dutch Crunch bread is the best I've ever had (tasted like freshly baked with a nice crunch). The chocolate chip cookies are divine. Both the employee who took our order & the cashier were incredibly friendly.

First timer here but I doubt I'll be back. Very friendly staff though. I was greeted right away. I let them know I was a first timer. I ordered a turkey and ham on a french roll. It came to $12.75. My food came pretty fast. I had high expectations because ChatGPT said I'd get a "meatier" sandwich from this place than I would from Subway, so that's why I came here. I wish I could say it was a "meaty" sandwich. It had 1 slice of ham, 1 slice of turkey, 1 slice of cheese. Very disappointing. Oh well...on to the next.

1/2 Sandwich - Turkey, Provolone Cheese and Lettuce on a Sourdough Roll

My friend and I stopped in for dinner last night as we were both craving a sandwich. We arrived a little after 5pm and there were only a few customers enjoying their sandwiches. I created my own 1/2 sandwich with Turkey, Provolone Cheese and Lettuce on a Sourdough Roll and my friend got their #10 Veggie Sandwich on a Sourdough Roll. We both really enjoyed our sandwiches - the bread was soft and warm as well. They have a big menu of signature sandwiches that all sounded really good. They also bake massive cookies and offer different salads like Garden, Potato and Macaroni. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The inside is a decent size with a big open kitchen - they also have seating outside which is nice for downtown people watching.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Overall, I really enjoyed my sandwich and would definitely come back soon to try one of their signature sandwiches. Staff were also very friendly and patient while we decided on what to order. Check them out!

I took a day trip to Sacramento last month and I have not stopped thinking about this place. I ordered a veggie sandwich with the Dutch crunch bread. The employee had told me that he thought it was the best sandwich he's ever made and was not wrong. I tore it the hell up. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was really cool to see a shop in such a unique building, and the inside was quiet and peaceful.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Great place to grab a sandwich and walk around the lovely area.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Can't wait to be back :)

Met a work mate here today. He's recommended and was so right. Had a tuna on wheat which was fresh and hit the "spot". Yea, I went there because it is true. Added a drink (ice tea) and chips (cheddar Sun Chips) is just a few dollars more. Easy to find and parking around the block or two was not difficult. Seating inside, but when the weather is grand, sit out on the porch and enjoy the nice surroundings and lovely exterior.

Great quality sandwich and it's in a cool spot. I ordered the #1 on sourdough and it was flavorful and filling. Service was fast and friendly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Comfortable seating indoor and outdoor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Have only been here once so I definitely have to come back! Came here for lunch with a friend and it did not disappoint. The sandwich was delicious and filling. The staff were friendly, our food was out quick, and we got seating inside. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's not huge on the inside but there's a decent amount of seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The vibe is definitely casual and welcoming.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Their menu has tons of options so they will have something for you if you don't know what to get!

I came here the other night for dinner with my friend since we were both craving sandwiches. We arrived a little after 5 pm and there were only a few customers. The service was great and the lady who took our order was very pleasant even when I was being a little indecisive! I got a half veggie sandwich and my friend did the BYO turkey sandwich. Both of our sandwiches were delicious! [[HIGHLIGHT]]I'll definitely be back due to the service, how good our sandwiches were and just the overall vibes of the place.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Very cute place! The sandwiches are good, the crunch bread was a little hard for my liking but the overall flavors were great! Mini bottles of sparkling apple cider were amazing!

I love The Sandwich Spot so much! Best place for a sando. The Dutch crunch is perfect and fresh. This small location in an old midtown house turned store front that has hardwood flooring, plenty of inside seating and a restroom. I always add on the chocolate chip cookies and jalapeño potato chips which compliment every Sando in my opinion. The workers are fast and friendly. Ample street parking. Closes quite early so be sure to come before 3pm (LUNCH HOURS) Today I ordered 3 sandos. My mom and son both got the Kings Court with pepper jack on a French roll. I ordered the Sac Bee on Dutch crunch with pepper jack. Comes with marinated hot chicken, bacon, avocado, and choice of cheese. Be sure to add on all the fresh veggies for an elite sando experience. 10/10 highly recommend yum!

The place was very clean, and everybody I dealt with was very friendly and helpful. It's tucked into the back of the Shell station at Bradshaw and old Placerville, but believe me, these are *NOT* your typical "gas station sandwiches." they have a decent sized menu. You can order at the counter, but I went ahead and just use the self order screen. , I ordered the Italian, with Aioli, Pepperoni, Salami, Ham, Provolone, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Oregano, and their Vinaigrette. When you pay, you also enter your phone number so they will let you know when the sandwich is ready. They were busy, as it was lunchtime. Still the sandwich came quickly. I got the text that my sandwich was ready at the same time that they called my name. The sandwich was very good. I liked their aïoli and the vinaigrette, you could tell that they were good quality, meats, and the veggies were very fresh. They were very generous with the fillings. I had it on sourdough, and it was a very good quality sourdough as well. I ordered a small sandwich, and it was enough to fill me up. For what I got, the price was extremely reasonable. I would definitely come back. Thanks for the suggestion, yelp!

I watched a little girl (unknowingly) dance around in it and prayed she didn't slip. Anyway, I ordered the tritip plate with double potato salad. The tritip was "ok" it was sliced super thin. And so it wasn't tough or anything. Not necessarily how I like it sliced, but ok. The sauce was pretty good. The potato salad was super bland. Were these chips hand-carved by artisans somewhere? Blessed by monks in the moonlight? I'm genuinely curious. I ordered the club, and I swear there was maybe one slice of turkey and a single, lonely piece of lettuce in the entire thing. The bun, however, was enormous, so the overall experience was like eating a fluffy bread pillow with a whisper of sandwich somewhere in the middle. Honestly, the sandwich felt a bit like a mime, the idea of a sandwich was there, but the substance was invisible. I even wondered if maybe the fillings weren't hungry themselves. By the end I felt less like I had eaten lunch and more like I had participated in a sandwich-themed illusion. Sadly, it looks like I'm Togo's-bound from here on out. I always root for unique local spots, but this felt more like a "Shamwich" than a sandwich. Tough times when the hungry leave hungry. Poor sand-wich-ship indeed.

Service is as fast as it can be during lunch hour rush, and I haven't been disappointed yet with my orders. The workers have always been helpful and answered any questions about the menu or even helped with recommendations. The ambiance isn't anything special. It's like most sandwich spots with tables, chairs and a restroom for customers. You're probably not pulling out your laptop to do any work or catch a vibe there unless listening to music and sending emails in a sandwich restaurant is your thing. My go-to order is the Amuna's Tuna on Dutch crunch with everything on it except jalapeños. If you're feeling a little lucky, you can get a combo meal with chips and a drink. They also sell big cookies. You also get a nice caramel apple sucker candy with your order. Like most restaurants these days, and especially restaurants in midtown, you're looking at $15-$20 for a sandwich and combo. It's pricey.

I'm likely in the minority in my opinion, but bear with me. I'm torn between a 3 and a 4, and…read moresticking with a 3 because this shop just didn't measure up ... to me. For starters, Ike's has its own way of doing things: plain mayo is not their thing. Only way to get plain mayo on a sandwich is to get lucky that there's a smidgen still left in a jar in the fridge after they prepare their house spread. They mix GARLIC and gawd knows what else for spices to make their Ike's sauce, so allergies beware. They offer plain mustard, but not plain mayo? For seconds, the sandwich bread is not up to the challenge of holding together the mountain of fillings inside. Pics prove my point. I want to eat a sandwich with my hands, not a plastic fork (or a shovel). And I don't want to wear it, not in public. Proportions, people! One size does not fit all. Now, in fairness, the meat, cheese, lettuce and tomato were fresh, chilled, and flavorful. However, IMHO $2.00+ to add equivalent of half an avocado is robbery when a whole avocado is $1 in the market. Fortunately I arrived when there wasn't another person in the store so I was able order up a plain ham and cheese sub with L, T, and A. The counter person was patient as I attempted to navigate the menu board. I communicated my wish for a simple sandwich and it arrived, albeit ridiculously overstuffed and above my budget expectations. Props for kindness and understanding. My first visit to any shop is always testing how well they do basics. So far, I'm not an Ike's fan. I'm no newcomer to sub sandwiches. At 82, and being a Massachusetts native, I've been a sub girl for at least 75 years, ever since I could wrap my fingers around the perfect sub roll. For more adventurous sandwich people, go for broke! This is your place!
