They can fool Locals and ppl who aren't knowledgeable in Asian food. But I know otherwise & im voicing this out for the benefit of others. You may choose to trust me or not. but for the sake of me taking the time to write this long review, I implore you, the best thing to do is just stay away. So I ordered takeout. The ingredients I that were spoiled were the Eel and the Seaweed. These are two ingredients FDA laws Require to be kept refrigerated below a certain temperature. This restaurant has a Sanitation score of 96 BUT it's amazing at what places can get away with and still have a high score. Inspections for restaurants are posted online free for the public to view. The NC department of health has found Shinko has had multiple "critical safety violations" for 5 years in a row now. (you can google Nc public health inspections for guilford county to look them up) These violations include improperly holding and storing cold and hot ingredients. This means if they serve these ingredients theyre likely to be spoiled due to improper storage. I assume mine was not held below proper temperature and eventually spoiled. I talked with the manager over the phone, Mike. No matter how hard i tried to reason with Mike, he still defended that the food had been good and that no refund will be given ($13 btw lol); he literally just brushed off my concerns and claims. When I asked if he could talk with the chef who prepared the food to find out more, Mike immediately denied my request and said I was accusing them. I was not accusing- only trying to find out the truth as they should have been trying to do as well. Instead Mike said he knew the employees there and working there 5 years he trusts them. He claimed the food is good yet he didnt even check it as he spoke with me on the phone. So here he is accusing me, a customer for lying and accusing them. But why in Trees name would I be taking the time to write such a long review..AND do the research into your restaurant to know all about your continuous safety violations? All because you wouldnt refund me $13? Of course not. This restaurant does not put their trust in the customer's claims/feedbacks. They will repeatedly offer to remake ur food even if you found it rotting, a hair, or bug in it, they will not issue refunds. I do not want my food made again. Nor will I come here again. I rather not spend $13 for spoiled food and to have a stressful time with your "trusting" employees. As an upset customer, I definitely expected better from a manager. Even an "im sorry; I will investigate with the chefs" would have been an attempt at good service. But Mike just kept denying all my claims and didnt even bother to taste or look into the matter himself. Im really disappointed and quite disgusted after this experience. Japanese food and sushi is a favorite of mine but I wont be eating it for awhile after this. As Ive stated, the facts are on the government inspection websites. This should already be red alert to stay away. Improperly stored foods that was found and only during the inspection was thrown away, these are all listed on there. Govt lets this slide pass because it's usually not enough to cause major illness. If you want to know more details on my experience just read on; but if inspection report facts are enough for you, so be it. So I ordered a bento box with eel roll and seaweed salad. The eel on my sushi was wet, super slimy and falling apart in my roll - in other words was probably SPOILED. After chewing it I knew something was wrong so I stopped eating it. Checked out the other rolls and they were the same. Slimy, wet... Not to mention there as barely any rice on the roll. Tasting the seaweed salad's fermentating liquids gave me hard gag reflex (this should never be the case for seaweed salad). Im not exaggerating, I legit almost vommited.. Unspoiled seaweed salad is suppose to have a lightly crisp and crunchy texture when you bite into them. Look it up or ask any knowledgeable chef and they will agree. Mine was chewy, so imagine that. Manager Mike said that they do not do refunds. Also I picked up about 40 minutes after the food was made. I wasnt expecting the food to be piping fresh, just edible!! Mike tried to reason by saying i picked up the food an hour late so it was no longer fresh, which is laughable... Bento boxes are meant to be eaten cold or saved to eat for later, ANY japanese foodie knows that. Plus decently fresh ingredients shouldNT go bad within an 1 hour (This is just plain laughable) Shame on them. A newspaper article revealed Kevin W is the owner of this place, here's hoping he sees this before things get out of hand. I have been to too many sushi restaurants, gourmet, casual and fast food alike so I think I know the good from the bad. I can't recommend this place enough! I tell everyone I know to go there. The sushi is always fresh and fantastic. My husband and I have had the hibachi and bang bang shrimp as well and it's excellent. We have stopped going to all of our other sushi places, and ONLY come here. The half off sushi from 3-6:30 is completely worth it!! It's casual dining, you order at the register and choose your own seat. Shinko Grill has become one of my family's go-to restaurants. We come here at least once a week. The employees are really nice and I think that the food matches that. For being a seemingly "fast food" type of establishment, their food is quite tasty! You order at the registers at the front of the restaurant and they give you a cup and a number. Your drinks are self-serve and you have to grab your own silverware. However, the wait for food is never long, and it's always fresh. I think the best deal is there Pick 3 option. You get a bento box with one hot meal option, one sushi roll (6 pieces), and one side for $9.95. It's a lot of food for the price, and I love being able to sample a lot of different menu items. Because this place is new, the confusion of how to order might get to you, but give it a few tries and it becomes quite simple. Their sushi is awesome, as is their Chinese and Japanese options. I'm so glad this place opened here! I'm not sure if they're just trying extra hard because they are new or genuinely are AWESOME. First things first, the food is absolutely perfect - and I'm pretty picky when it comes to sushi! The serving sizes are very fair and satisfying. Granted, the basic sushi rolls aren't designed to get you full but take a combo with a premium roll and soup or salad and you're there. How much? About ten bucks! Shinzo grill has been one of my favorite places to get quick but decent Japanese food and sushi. But something has changed. The service has always been polite and efficient. It's fast casual dining, but the food has usually been served within a reasonable amount of time and usually well prepared. The problems started at the counter. One register was out of service and as a young man struggled with it a second employee stepped in to take the orders. She didn't try to conceal her pique as she proceeded to ring us up on the next register. I don't know about you but it always makes me a bit nervous when the people who are preparing and serving my food have an attitude! Even if they have it with a co-worker, another customer or a subordinate, I like my food handled by happy people. Just sayin'. I placed my order and left to do a quick shopping trip next door at Chico's (multitasking). 5 items purchased, i returned 14 minutes later and my husband is eating his beef and broccoli but my food hasn't been served, only my spring rolls. We wait another 5or six minutes before I go to the counter to inquire. While I'm waiting another customer is at the counter with the same question. Soon we are joined by a third customer asking about her order as well. The worst part wasn't the fact that we weren't served, the worst part with the attitude of the young man who I presume is the manager. He was argumentative and dismissive. Only after Said to him "you're not really going to argue with me are you." Did he offer to apologize, without actually apologizing. Besides all that drama, the food was subpar! This is my favorite place to go to for Chinese food. I always get the Teriyaki shrimp and the shrimp are HUGE and delicious. Delicious! We ordered takeout,(I'm not ready to eat inside due to the Coronavirus. The rice was different from any I'd ever eaten before. It was a little sweet, had no vegetables, and no egg in it (that I could see). It was perfectly cooked, no hard spots, no gooey spots, it was just right (and I'm picky about my rice). I ordered the Steak Hibachi, Sean ordered the Chicken Hibachi, and Jeff ordered the General Tso's Chicken. We all raved about our meals. I also ordered the Spring Rolls, they were good but nothing special. We'll eat there again when we visit our son at High Point University. Just ok food! my girls and I were really craving Hibatchi and this place was close so we thought why not. So like previous reviews you have to order and pay at a counter then you wait. It took quite some Time to get our food and we did take out so I can't speak on the service. The counter person was nice enough. So on to the food. My daughter and I got shrimp and scallops so yes we expected to pay more- but what we got was wimpy. For the price we paid it was not a lot of meat and a TON of rice. The Shrimp Sauce was VERY watered down it didn't taste like much and the food itself was pretty bland. All in all if you want Hibatchi try somewhere else- this was a very disappointing experience considering there are cheaper placed that give much more food with tons more flavor. Turns out you order from the register, pay, get your drink, find a table and wait for the food to be delivered to you. I didn't realize it was going to be a fast food type of restaurant. I'd heard a lot about this place and was excited to see what the fuss was all about. I wasn't aware that this was an "express" type of place where you had to order up at the front counter and they simply brought it to the table. Had I know, I would have inspected the menu more closely before arriving as I felt a little rushed. The young lady up front was disconnected and aloof. There was one young lady working her tail off though. She was at the expo, walking out food, bussing tables...she was everywhere and did a great job. Most others (that we could see) seemed sluggish. The Rangoons were decent as were the pot stickers but neither were any better than the ones you could get in the freezer section at the grocery store. We ordered two rolls; American Dream and Tiger. The tiger roll was bland and not memorable at all. The AD roll was much better and had a nice subtle kick to it. Overall, it was decent but not sure if I would give it another go. read more

This is a cool place to get sushi, and honestly I did not even LIKE sushi until I started eating at Shinko. The fried sushi rolls are great, and my favorite is "the Shinko fried roll". If you are new to sushi, this one is a safe bet! (do not let people convince you to do a California roll the first go round - yuck!) The staff is friendly and accommodating, but there have been a couple of visits that were a little odd circumstances happening. (water was not working - therefore no fountain drinks, etc.) Sushi is half price between 3pm-6pm, and that is a GREAT deal! There was a time that they served beer and wine, which was a really nice touch - but I don't think they are offering this anymore. Shinko is a good, quick restaurant serving Asian cuisine and sushi. Their menu prices are reasonable and the food is usually pretty good. I've had their teriyaki chicken, bang bang shrimp and sesame. All are flavorful with generous portions. My biggest disappointment with Shinko and the only reason they are getting two stars from me is based on my last visit there. Both of my boys ordered chicken tenders with rice while my wife and I both ordered teriyaki chicken. It was great up until the point my oldest son spit out his last bite of chicken tender. He said the texture was "funny". Turns out the chicken tender was RAW! RAW! RAW! Then the worry set in. Is he going to get sick? Is he going to get salmonella? And on and on. Thankfully he did not get sick. I am most unhappy with how the restaurant handled it. They did not refund any of our money. They did give us two cards for free meals on our next visit... it remains to be seen if they will be used. More disappointing is that they didn't even send a manager over to talk with us and address the situation. Really!! Were they too scared? Didn't care? All I know is we gave a restaurant the we like and frequent on a regular basis a chance to make it right and they failed miserably. Now my kids a scared to eat chicken out. Depending on your choice, you could spend anywhere from $4 - $7 for most rolls. I spent 11 bucks on 2 specialty rolls (8 pieces each) for lunch today. This place is starting to become our go to when we can't decide what to eat. The sushi is a good deal if (and only if) you get it while it's half off. The reason I say that is because it's definitely not the most authentic. Every time me and my husband try to eat their sushi, the rice always falls apart. I believe their not using sushi rice, it feels like jasmine rice? It tastes fine but we just notice it doesn't hold up very well so it makes it messy and hard to eat. Also if you refrigerate leftover sushi, that rice becomes really hard, but then again that's pretty much any leftover sushi (we try not to have any left overs). Enough of that though, my favorite thing to get is the hibachi chicken, I only get the dark meat because it's so juicy and flavorful. They accidentally gave me chicken breast once and I figured I'd keep it and try it out, it just wasn't the same. My husband likes to get the pick 3, and I always end up eyeballing his food. His only complaint was not getting enough rice with the pick 3, you can tell you only get 1 scoop. Overall, I really enjoy coming here. It took 25 minutes to get my dine-in order, even though there were only 2 other tables occupied. The sushi quality was sub-par, to say the least. Grocery store sushi is typically better than this. And their dine-in service is a joke! It was basically carry-out, brought to your table in a bag. Everything 'served' (delivered) at the same time in plastic containers with the worst/cheapest plastic cutlery I have ever seen. I love this new place in High Point. This place is located just blocks from HPU and in a shopping plaza. I dined out but the décor in the restaurant is modern and clean. When I went inside the place was relatively empty but I blame that on the newness (is this a word?) of the restaurant. I went with their pick 3 option which allowed me to pick a main dish, a sushi roll and a side. I selected the spicy salmon roll, spicy garlic chicken and seaweed salad. Since I ordered mine to go it came a bento style box. At first glance, I was thinking that this is not a lot of food but I was full and satisfied at the end. My spicy salmon roll wasn't very spicy but it was still good. Again my spicy garlic chicken wasn't too spicy but it was really good although I felt as if the portion of chicken could have been a little more. Lastly, my seaweed salad was delicious but I am into that type of stuff so I may be a little bias. I am really looking forward to going back to taste their other kinds of sushi. Shinko is a fast food version of a sushi/hibachi restaurant. It is very serve yourself, get your own drink and utensils. Extremely casual. They have half off sushi nights. I am not blown away by the quality of the sushi and usually stick to the avocado sushi. I usually get the shrimp hibachi or the "pick 3 box" for 10.95$ you get to choose a starter, main and basic sushi. It's great to have so many options for a cheap price. The "white sauce" is very good I recommend asking for some. It's a good place if you want a quick bite to eat it's not the highest quality but it's cheap and tasty! read more

Awful! I placed an order to go and it was wrong. The cashier was most apologetic, however, the manager was rude! The cashier seemed embarrassed by the way the manager was acting. The manager actually told me that the plate on the counter WAS what I ordered and asked me if I was looking for chicken? I ordered stir fry SHRIMP with spicy garlic sauce and fried rice. Why would he ask me about CHICKEN?The cashier opened the plate up, after I questioned the amount due, and I'm so glad she did. The food looked disgusting, especially the dry rice. It's hard to find a bad word to say about Shinko Grill. I'm just surprised it's taken me this long to sing their praises on Yelp! The restaurant itself is a cozy space, not elaborate but clean and comfortable. The employees are always friendly and service is very snappy indeed. And they're serious regarding COVID-19 precautions: all customers and employees are masked and the dining room is closed (10 customers max are allowed to wait inside for orders)--but there is plenty of nice patio seating. What Shinko is locally known for is their half price happy hour sushi...which, unfortunately, is on indefinite pause as of this review. Supply chain issues. But don't despair! They're offering some other great discounts in the meantime to ease the pain. You can get three basic rolls for roughly $13, which is what I opted for. One spicy tuna, one spicy salmon, one dynamite roll. All were fresh and tasty. Not on a par with fancier Triad sushi spots, no, and the selection isn't as varied. But for the price point you just can't do better, so I can give them five stars without a qualm. read more
