We found Ship Out on Yelp and we were happy to arrive just a few minutes before they officially closed. It's a cute place - a blue food truck with options of outdoor or indoor seating with a shabby chic look. Everything, including the trailer single bathroom was very clean. We ordered a full order of the fish and chips, two extra scallops, and a full bowl of of chowder. The batter for the fish, scallops and fries were tasty and crispy. The clam showier was thick, tasty and had a good amount of clams in it. The cole slaw that came with the fish and chips was really good as well. We'd order all the stuff again if we ever return to Astoria! read more

We go here every year during our stay at the RV park next door. Love everything about it, but I wish the batter would stay on the scallops. Not sure what the issue is, guessing the scallops are not dried sufficiently before dredging in the batter. read more

Came for lunch on a chilly Sunday afternoon and what welcomed us are fresh halibut and calamari with fantastic fries. The fish and calamari are so fresh and soft that it melted in your mouth. And the fries are truly well made and not too oily. Though we hoped the price is a little more affordable considering we are paying $40 for 2 half baskets of fish and calamari with fries but we will be back again to try out the other stuff in the menu! read more

I Recommend Getting the full order of halibut, The shrimp was excellent, The chicken strips where good, the cod was good, the salads are good, The hamburgers are delicious! Stopped here for lunch on our way south. The staff was super friendly and the place itself is really intriguing; an extremely fun ambiance. We got the cod n chips which were really good. The batter was light and crunchy, the fish fresh and perfectly cooked and the chips were excellent. I also got their clam chowder that I friggin loved. Unlike most places, it was gloopy and filled with roux but silky smooth and bursting with flavor with a good ratio of clams. A little hot sauce really brightened it up. I think the food is excellent but the last two times I went they were closed during their "open" hours. The first time I was driving in (30 minutes away) and I placed a pickup order. I got there and they were closed early even though they were open when the order was placed. No one called to tell me they were closing early. When I arrived a girl apologized but was cleaning up and getting ready to leave. The second time, after several months, I called but just kept getting a message saying "No one is available to take my call." I really enjoyed their fish and chips when I last was able to have them, but I wish they would either be open when they say they are or update their hours. read more

Wow, Delicious Delicious Delicious! Well worth your time to make the trip from Seaside or Long Beach or Astoria. I found the Halibut perfectly cooked, in a light, non-greasy coating, and the Tarter sauce delicious. Plenty of seating, inside and out, and lots of novelties to browse. You know, lots of people on the Oregon Coast do fish and chips, but Ship Out does Fish and Chips Right! Five, no, Eight Stars, highly recommended, I cannot wait to come back. read more

We came here just because of the earlier reviews. It may be a bad day for Ship Out but I should've known when I asked the guy taking orders what kind of fish was being used. He was clueless as to what the fish was. When we got our order it was hot and fresh but it wasn't worth the 18 dollars for a 4-piece cod n chips. The fish was sliced so thin there was only 1 side and the batter made up the bulk of the order and was very greasy too. The best thing about this place is the seating it was in a greenhouse it was warm and it kept the wind off us that day! Well, we give them another chance maybe $42 bucks was spent and many other places in this area have better fish n. chips read more

TLDR; food is just a hair below "Bowpicker", but there is shelter from the wind and a clean restroom. Better than Mo's by a long shot. A local told us these fish and chips were better than the Bowpicker. They're not. Although they are really tasty, they didn't have tuna fish and chips (the person who recommended told us they did). What they lack in tuna they make up for in ambiance! There is a large covered area with picnic tables for eating. It's decorated with a fountain and lots of eclectic beachy nicknacks for sale. There is a clean restroom!!! We were traveling with kids who would not have done well with tartar sauce in the back of a minivan, so we appreciated the large greenhouse structure for eating and exploring and the fact that there was absolutely no line. After a few minutes they brought us our order to the eating area. Fish was cooked perfectly. Burger was cooked perfectly (just a little pink). We asked for pickles on the burger and they loaded it up! The fries are the battered variety and very crispy. There is a bottle of ketchup and malt vinegar along with paper towels on every table. Two full orders of halibut and chips and a cheese burger ran us $60-ish and fed two adult, two kiddos, and a teenaged boy. Parking is on the opposite side of the order window. There is cute outdoor seating if you don't mind the wind or possibly rain - it IS Oregon after all. The location was a little bit of a bummer since we wanted to stay in the heart of Astoria, but as I mentioned before, the ambiance made it worth the trip. read more

Ship Out is a food cart on the outskirts? of Astoria. They have a good selection of fried seafood + chips, chowder and other items. The combo plate is worth getting in order to sample all what they offered fried. It runs about $20. The portion is great and I was left not disappointed. We found this place on Yelp after the restaurants in town were too full to seat us. It is a ways out of the downtown area but not too far. We came on a hot day so it was not real comfortable as there weren't many tables in the shade outside. I thought the prices were too high for a food truck, honestly. Our bill came to 90 for 5 people, and we just had entrees and water. The fish and chips were good but the pieces of halibut were on the small side. Everyone enjoyed their food but I just didn't think the portion sizes matched the prices. They only had one salad option (a ceasar) on the menu. Everything else was deep fried or for people probably not watching calories. They were busy and got the food out within 15 minutes of ordering. read more

Oh Man, nothing but greatness from Ship Out! My wife and I did an 8 mile hike and after, I figured we could visit a local place to get some seafood. Oh man we were not disappointed. I got the Po Boy and fries and let me tell you, it was sooooo full of flavor and cooked to perfection. We left stuffed, off sandwiches and fries! I recently visited Ship Out in Astoria, Oregon with my husband. We were looking for a good place to eat lunch before heading out on a fishing trip, and Ship Out had great reviews. We ordered the half order of shrimp and chips and the halibut sandwich. Both dishes were huge and delicious. The shrimp were perfectly cooked and the chips were crispy and golden brown and it also came with coleslaw. The halibut sandwich was made with fresh, flaky fish and was served on a toasted bun with lettuce, tomato, and tartar sauce. Overall, we had a great experience at Ship Out. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was fun, casual, and relaxed. We would definitely recommend Ship Out to anyone visiting Astoria. read more

We were so sad when Ship Inn closed in Astoria so were so excited to see this open. We have eaten there twice and it is even better than Ship Inn!! Light batter. Clam chowder better than Ship Inn. Delicious scallops. We had the shrimp fettuccine and it was delicious. Huge portion and really inexpensive!! I know their hours are short but we plan around that. I hope that they stay open longer as the weather gets better! Go eat there!! Remember that their seating is inside the old nursery building. They have heat but it's a big building so wear a coat! read more

So far have tried four menu items, the halibut, the calamari, the chowder and the burger. All were excellent but I was especially happy with the calamari which I hadn't had since Ship Inn closed. Love that they have a heated, indoor area to eat. Also very pleased to have such good food in that location. The hours are similar to the food trucks that aren't right downtown. Love the variety too, far more choices than you would expect in a food cart. We will go back. read more

So, so yummy! We've eaten here 4 times already and have always been delighted. The fish and chips are the best I have ever had. Not only is the quality excellent, there is more than enough food for my son and I to split a meal. The service amazing. I was shocked on my 2nd visit that the cashier remembered my name. When we first walked in, we were a bit confused since it seemed like it wasn't actually a restaurant and was instead a fish market - it turns out we went into the wrong door. Bouy's Best Restaurant is the building that says restaurant outside, not the market next door that only sells fresh, frozen, and smoked fish. We elected to get the Captain's Platter to share as it seemed to include most of the fried items that they serve. It's great for sampling! Captain's Platter ($34) - The Captain's Platter is served on two trays - one with the fries, and one with the seafood. The fries are pretty standard commercial battered fries. Crisp on the outside, tender on the inside. Not really much else to say. The seafood plate consists of one piece each of lingcod, salmon, and halibut, two oysters, one razor clam, and two prawns. I love the batter they use here - it's light, lacy and crisp. Not quite as light as tempura, but it stands up against the fish well, and it adheres enough so that a hearty bit won't leave naked pieces of protein or hollow husks of batter. While there's a bit of oil soaked into the plate, the batter is not oily at all. Starting with the fish - I understand now why salmon isn't used for fish and chips much since it gets dried out a bit. Still good, but not as good as salmon could be grilled or baked. The taste is quite different and a bit stronger to the typical generic farmed salmon. I'm not sure what the difference between halibut and lingcod is since I don't have too much experience with the various types of fish. One of them, which I think is halibut, tastes a little bitter and has some strange fatty and tendinous parts. I didn't enjoy eating it due to the texture and taste. The other piece, which I think is the lingcod, is also a little acrid, kind of bitterish with a very distinct taste. I think this is why fish & chips is traditionally cod - it's much lighter in taste. But if you're looking for something a little more flavorful, lingcod and halibut might be the way to go. I don't really like oysters and the fried oysters included in the captain's platter did not change my mind. They are mushy, very briny flavored. The prawns are pretty solid, good and sweet. The tail part of the shrimp is so crisp you can easily eat it without any issues. Finally, the razor clam is very good. Nice, large, and chewy. My favorite was the clam, followed by the salmon, prawn, cod, halibut, and oyster. (3/5) On the side, they server a cup of tarter sauce, cocktail sauce, and slaw. The tarter sauce is very creamy. They are heavier with the mayo than most tarter sauces. It's tangy and quite rich, but I feel like they add quite a bit less pickles than other places. The cocktail sauce it just a nice refreshing and acidic sauce to break through some of the fat in the batter and seafood. The slaw is interesting. It's quite sweet and acidic, with bits of pineapple mixed in. It works well with the seafood. There's a wedge of lemon included as well to add more acidity to preference. Clam Chowder, Small ($7.99) - This is a decent clam chowder. The clam taste comes out quite well, followed by a bit of vegetalness from the mirepoix. The razor clams are cut into larger pieces than traditional clam, resulting in meatier and chewier pieces that I would normally expect. The broth is thick and rich, but I'd say not as creamy as most other clam chowders. It's more of a grey than off white in color. They are pretty generous with the ingredients, with the vegetables, tender potatoes, and the aforementioned clams. That all sounds good, but the major downside is how salty the chowder is. The amount of salt they add makes the clam chowder a little unpleasant to drink. I didn't end up finishing the chowder. (3/5) Overall the food I had at Buoy's Best was kind of meh. After I ate the fish & chips I felt a bit burnt out on this dish (even though I had only eaten it twice that week). Was it the difference in flavor vs. other fish & chips? I'm not sure, but I don't think I would revisit Buoy's Best. I'm not saying the food served here is bad - it just didn't work for me personally. I suppose if you're bored with the usual fish & chips and want something a bit different, Buoy's Best is worth a try. Bathrooms: One unisex room
