Needed just a snack as I was going to visit my mom at the retirement center and had some French fries there. They were tasty and generous portion. I was pleasantly surprised as they were not your typical greasy, mushy fries but delightfully crispy and the sauce reminded me of the old Arctic Circle special sauce. My favorite place in the Astoria/Warrenton area for chowder, fish & chips and prawns! Although Enola's has burgers & sandwiches on the menu, we came in search of fresh, delicious seafood and they came through big time. On our first visit we went for the basics - fish & chips and clam chowder. Next time we just had two bowls of the yummy chowder and most recently we had the cod & prawns with some chowder. Let's start with the chowder. Perfect. Just perfect - the ratio of chopped veggies to clams , the slight smoky taste of bacon , the perfect thickness - not too thin like broth and not thick like paste , seasoned just right - no need to add salt . Served up with a pack of oyster crackers and with a small piece of warm, garlic baguette on the side. Next the fried cod. Dipped in a light batter , fried to a perfect crispiness and not greasy , the flavor of the cod is not overwhelmed by the batter , you get four yummy portions of fish , all accompanied by a generous pile of crispy French fries (not hand cut, but very tasty) and a cup of delicious Cole slaw that's creamy and not too sweet . Now the fried prawns. Take everything I said about the cod above, but with 6 huge, sweet, butterflied prawns ! The same delicious batter, crispy fries and coleslaw. Hubby and I have a thing about food envy, so we are way into sharing. You know how sometimes sharing is hard when you get an odd number of servings? Not here - we each enjoyed two pieces of cod and three huge prawns, a mess of fries and cup of coleslaw. We also shared a bowl of chowder - having a slurp-off with two spoons. I asked for an extra piece of bread, too. All in all, we left fully satiated and... we will be back! read more

We drove 3.2 miles from Astoria B&B to this restaurant because both Google and Yelp has it closes at 7 pm. Unfortunately they changed their hours and didn't bother to update Google or Yelp. I was impressed that from the parking lot the fish smelled fresh. That's not easy to do for a seafood restaurant. It saddens me that we won't be in town tomorrow. A very clean place. I feel like I've told a hundred people about this place. I'm not sure what more needs to be said, other than for anyone reading this to go here if they haven't already, and to go here again if you've already been. You're in Astoria and you want seafood. You've got your choice of restaurants downtown - or, you drive for two and a half minutes over the top of the hill, and arrive at a place where the locals eat day in, day out. If it was my first time I'd be like "Oh wow, I'm eating in a giant living greenhouse next to a wishing well", but I live here so I get to have those experiences on my way to Costco. I always order a full cod but the scallops and chowder are great too. Kids absolutely love this place! The only suggestion I can offer to the owners is that we love fresh local fish! Whatever it is, if I show up and the sign says fresh local _blank_, I'm ordering it, and I will pay extra because I want to support it. Thank you, keep up the great work! read more

My kids love fish and chips and they made it their mission to try all the fish and chips that are recommended in Astoria. The batter is super thick on these so if that's not your thing I'd skip this place. The fries are battered as well, which my kids weren't a fan of. I thought the halibut was good but it was definitely pricier than anywhere else we went to get fish and chips. The tartar sauce was amazing and I'm guessing they make it there, otherwise I need to find their distributor haha. The coleslaw was nice and light too, not too much Mayo but not dry. Overall for the price I probably wouldn't come back for the halibut but I'd be interested to try some other things on their menu. read more

This is a fish and chip shop and they do their thing very well. My mother and I received light, crispy prawns and large chunks of lightly battered halibut coupled with great clam chowder and quality fries. My only complaints were that the young woman serving food only wore her mask when approaching tables, even after I explained my family had a child with health issues, and the prices were a bit high. While visiting Astoria last week we decided to try out the fish and chips here. We usually go to the Bowpicker in town. Perfect weather allowed us to dine outside at picnic tables but there is a lovely indoor area as well. The fish was cod and it was good as well as the fries and coleslaw. We also tried the clam chowder and it was thick with plenty of clams but a little too salty for me. A good alternative if Bowpicker is sold out or closed but I like their tuna better. read more

We were directed to ship out by a local fishermen who told us it's where the locals eat. I can see why. I opted for shrimp and chips and the prawns were tender and sweet with a crunchy but not overly thick batter. I tasted my boyfriends fried cod and I thought it was delicious as well. We gave Ship Out a try and it now holds the place for our favorite Fish and Chips on the Oregon Coast. The cod is the freshest we can possibly get, and maybe better than we've ever had. The batter was crisp and light, fried just right. Even the coated fries were delicious. The young ladies that worked the food truck were very organized, pleasant, patient and quick. We were there in the early afternoon so we missed out on the clam chowder. They were out, so we are guessing it is really good. That will be for the next time we make it to Ship Out. read more

We stopped by for clam chowder and fried cod. The clam chowder was pretty good, not the best I've had in Astoria, and the bread that came with it was oddly stale. The fried cod was a bit too heavy on the coating for us, but it was light and airy and the cod was very fresh. This is the most adorable setting with a mobile food unit in an industrial area and they have decorated the adjacent pole building with gifts and indoor seating. There are several picnic tables outside which is where we dined as the evening temps were so comfortable. The menu is filled with fish and seafood. Served as baskets with fries, coleslaw. This is a very popular spot so come prepared for a line, but they cook very fast once you place your order. Be sure to try the halibut! read more

Stop in this afternoon for some lunch to enjoy some of their fish and chips. The fish tasted so fresh, I got the halibut fish sandwich and my hubs got the full order of fish and chips. Large portions, and I approve of the coleslaw, it's always hard to find great slaw and they didn't disappoint. Not a good value. The food was good, but that was it. I'm not sure how this place manages to compete with the restaurants that are actually in town and near the river, I'm not sure what we paid so much for. Not the service. And certainly not the ambiance. We could have spent the same amount at Mo's for a similar quality of food, a full menu, a gorgeous view of the Columbia, and someone to take care of us at our table. Instead, we paid a high price for good food, a table inside a shoddy, greenhouse-like building off the side of the inland road, no view, and a gravel floor. And while the outside of this structure had no aesthetic appeal whatsoever, the inside was an absolute eyesore. Someone had attempted to decorate it, but seemed to have done so by just throwing around a medley of maritime trinkets that they liked, and with no focus. There was no decipherable mood or feel to the place, maybe due to this apparent lack of focus, or maybe just due to maritime themes attempting, with absolutely no success, to overcome a utilitarian, industrialized-looking space. The place appears to be a food cart that hooked itself up to a large storage shack in an industrial area, which was then turned into an eating space. We couldnt buy a beer there, but were invited to go buy one somewhere nearby, if we wanted to (just like we could have if we were NOT eating at Ship Out). After also telling us he was out of clam chowder, the young man in the food truck told us he'd bring our food to us. He reneged on this later, because he'd "just gotten a bunch of orders." I'm not sure why we tipped him. He didn't seem to care. He didn't thank us for the tip, or even for our business. We thanked him, but I suppose we owed him something for... having chosen this place? Aside from the apathy I just noted, I do not blame Ship Out for any of the choices It makes. I love food carts, and if that's all this was, so be it. If this is the case, then one is only paying for the food, not the ambiance and not the service. The food is good, but not good enough to make up for these absences. So why pay full restaurant prices? We won't again. read more

It almost goes without saying that the Ship Out has the best fish and chips so very little needs to be said here. So I thought I would point out their salmon chowder. It is THE best chowder, without regard to the type of chowder, i.e. seafood, clam, corn, etc. I recently had what I thought was the best clam chowder, but Ship Out's salmon chowder is better. The flavor of the chowder is outstanding and it had a generous amount of salmon and other tasty bits. read more

The best chowder I have ever had. The quality and quantity is every thing you hope for in a chowder. A rich creamy taste with balance of spices. Initially I thought I got a bug chunk of potato but was pleasantly surprised it was a scallop. Both the cod and halibut fish and chips with beer battered-style fries were amazing. My boyfriend is a coleslaw connoisseur and said it's the best he's had in a long time. Will be back next time we're at the Coast! read more

Really cool concept! Your food comes from a truck, but the dining room is inside of what used to be a greenhouse. It's decorated quite nicely and there are bussers to keep things clean. We're visiting from California. Where we live there is no shortage of fish & chips places. Just a short drive to any one of several beach cities. With that said I will say that Ship Out has the best F&C I've had in a long time. The tartar sauce looks a little different but tastes really good. Interesting place too. Turn around after ordering and walk through the doors into the dining area. It's warm, protected from the wind, and contains all sorts of stuff for sale. There was also a bunch of games near the corner ranging from 'A Barrel of Monkeys' to 'Cards Against Humanity'. No kidding. read more

Cool little food cart that has nice indoor and outdoor seating. The service is very slow so I would suggest calling in your order. We ate here several times and waited 30-45 minutes each time. The young staff is very friendly. All the food, at least what we tried, was very good and large servings. Halibut sandwich, cod fish and chips, chicken strips, clam chowder, french dip and french fries. We tried the hamburger too which was pretty good even though it was overcooked as we asked for medium rare. We were staying at the RV park next door, and this place was way too convenient! I just have to say that Ship Out is one of the best places to eat in Astoria-warrenton. I lived there for three years, and I would always take our guests here to eat. The prices are good, and the food is stellar. I love the workers here too. The owner usually walks around and checks on people to make sure their food is perfect. I have honestly eaten everything here. All their specials, all their regular menu items. But my fave is going to be their fish and chips. It doesn't matter if it's their regular menu halibut or their special tuna, it's all good. I do have to warn you, that sometimes this food truck can get overwhelmed and the wait can be a bit long. But the food is worth it. Cruise through their local artisan area or just browse on your phone. But most times, your food will be out quickly. read more

This place is hidden away on the backroad of town, but totally worth a shot. The layout is a little funky, the food truck is outside, and the seating is inside a greenhouse. But the decor and atmosphere balances perfectly with the home cooked feel of the food. It's casual, relaxed and delicious. The only complaint I had was not offering water cups, we had to buy water bottles, and the cheesecake isn't a delicious home made treat like I imagined it would be, it's just your typical frozen fare. The burger I had was amazing classic burger goodness and I really didn't need a double after I ordered it. The fries were crisp and tasty as well.
