This place is great. Incredibly friendly service and delicious food. We probably eat there once a week. The chicken/ gyro platters are flavorful and very filling. The hummus here is the bomb! It was the star of the meal! My boyfriend and I got the chicken schwarma sandwiches. For $8, including a side (fries, onion rights or salad it's a pretty good deal. Not the best schwarma by any means, but not bad either. I also ordered the falafel, which was pretty disappointing. They were dry and definitely not fresh--wouldn't purchase again. It did take 20 minutes for the food to be ready, so I recommend calling in advance if you don't want to wait. read more

This place is not tasty, authentic, or a good value. The hummus is very runny, shiny, and bitter. Store bought would be better. The grape leaves tasted like they came pre-made and from the refrigerator. The Greek salad had one slice of tomato. And it was a $10 meatless Greek salad. read more

First off, I must say, Shish Kabob Grill is by far, the best food in Denver. This review is not about the food, but more about the way I've noticed the business is run. This winter, after my return from Aspen, I dined in this establishment quite a number of times with my hubby. We spent quite a bit of money, and tipped the waitstaff well. I've come to notice that whoever is in charge treats the waitstaff like animals. One waitress, a sweethearted, helpful woman, was talking to me about the menu and the owner kept barking orders at her. Now, I've been a patron at quite a number of high-end restaurants and I gotta say, this is no way to treat your employees. I noticed the poor waitress looked frazzled and overworked. My hubby, a journalist, was going to write up a grand review of this place for the newspaper but he decided, after noticing such treatment, that Shish Kabob Grill wasn't worthy of praise. I am VERY disappointed with what I've seen and I will not be returning. I have also informed my colleuges about this and they have all decided to boycott this establishment. This place was as not good. They over cooked the chicken breast dish I ordered and closed early. Not impressed.

Let me first start off by saying, I am not a fan of Greek food. It is not something I go out of my way to eat; however, one of my co-workers kept raving about this place and insisted I try it. After going to Shish Kabob Grill, I love Greek food. Their Gyros and hummus and everything in between is so unbelievably delicious! This place is terrible. Probably one of the worst Middle Eastern/Arabic restaurants I've ever had the misfortune of trying. The kabob meet was tough, and of very poor quality. The hummus was decent, but served with clearly mass produced store bought pita bread. I have no idea why this place has seemed to get some good reviews. I would advise avoiding this place. Hidden Gem in Denver!! Tried this place for the first time last night. This place is FAMILY run (i'm talking parents AND kids) and is one of those places you love giving business to and really want to succeed b/c they provide an awesome product and there is no gimmick. The owner's son was working the cash register, taking to-go orders, AND he was the server for all tables in the dining room on a Fri. night, so service was understandably a bit slow. But, he was also very polite and charming with every table, so come here and RELAX-the food is worth it. I'm an omnivore and the GF is a Veg., so we were glad the menu offered selections for both of us as most Middle Eastern restaurants do. We ordered the hummus/pita starter and she had the falafel sando, I had the gyros sando. Hands down the best gyros sandwich I've ever had (used to be in the Bay Area). The lamb/beef meat was tender and didn't have the sliced meatloaf consistency that you sometimes get with gyros (although it is sliced off a spit). The meat was served with grilled veggies/parsley on a tender pita, and the portion was HUGE and the ingredients tasted very fresh. I'm also kind of a french fry snob and theirs were cooked to order and had a nice crispy outside with a soft starchy inside--perfect. My GF's Falafel was delicious as well and had a unique flavor-almost an allspice/mace spice to it. She enjoyed her dish as well... Overall, everything was prepared with care and soul and you can taste it. the seasoning is aggressive and the flavors bold, and everything is served hot and fresh. I had a hard time not going back again today for lunch. Great place for a nice, easy, delicious no fuss meal and one of the better restaurants (counting fine dining) we've been to in Denver. read more

The gyros here are the best downtown. A great lunch spot. And for the cost, compares to any real sandwich shop nearby (including tip). The gyros are huge, with an proportionate amount of tzatziki and vegetables. Fries, onion rings, and salad side round out a meal. If you are feeling extra hungry, the hummus is delicious. I've been to this place many times and the food is excellent. I have eaten at a number of other Mediterranean restaurants in town and this place has the best Mediterranean food. Their hummus is like cream and the baba ghanoush is the best I've ever had. read more

We ordered a Falafel and Veggie plate. Both were very bad, everything was so over salted that everything tasted the same. The hummus was the worst I have had, not even sure what was in it. Overpriced for the non-existent value. There are much better options for Middle Eastern fair. read more

Ordered schawarma with a salad. Salad was limp and ingredients were old. Schawarma was served cold. When I told them the server the dish was cold, he took it. I have always enjoyed the Shish Kabob Grill's gyros. I was a frequent customer until after today's experience. I ordered heir tabouleh and it was quite salty. I asked the waiter if I could return it and he said since I ate some that I could not return it. I said "how could I have tasted it without eating some?" He said I would still have to pay. Do not order the tabouleh or try to return any food because they will not honor it like any other restaurant. read more

Forget dinner and a movie. If I need a decent meal with cheap entertainment, I come here. Located in the Mecca of weirdness, Shish Kabob Grill, between its owners and street walking neighbors, always brings about amusement. I must admit, however, my main draw to this place is their incredible gyros. Family owned, with the wife doing the cooking, the kids, I guess doing what you call serving, and the husband doing the managing, they operate a fine yet strange eatery. Their gyro sandwich is by far one of my top favorite food items in Denver. Yeah, you can get a gyro sandwich all throughout Denver, but this surpasses all the competition by leaps and bounds. To begin, the meat on a spit dripping of flavor is visible to the entire restaurant. So tender and tasty with all of its accoutrements being fresh onions, tomatoes, and what I believe to be tzatziki sauce, it is so messy, but so freaking awesome. Awesome enough that I will look past the subpar service, and tolerate the awkwardness that comes with the owner yelling at employees, his children, and yes even patrons, and the drunks that wander in to cause a scene every now and then. read more

We are new to Denver area, and were counting on reviews of others when picking this place for a dinner. And I'm not sure how come this place have such a good reviews. First impression - cheap eatery. But we decided to stay and give it a shoot. I'm not even talking that walls are covered with ketchup/sauce/meat stains. But their hummus had human hairs in it. And when we pointed that out to our waiter he wasn't even surprised - just bought us a new plate without even an apology. The food was 2 stars tops and they didn't even try to provide us with some discount or chef's compliment dish to fix the impression that we strongly had all the time after we found that hair. Place is definitely nothing to write home about, but the food-- especially the chicken shawarma platter-- is cheap and delicious. I often have enough left over for another 2 meals. We have been going to this place for years. I would normally give this place two thumbs up. Sad to say I think it's definitely time for us to part ways. We ordered take out last night and it was a hot mess! The salads that came with each entrée were not just wilted but, ROTTEN! The food didn't look fresh at all. As I stated before I would normally recommend this restaurant but, now it gets a big NO! We also got sick. I'm glad we didn't eat much of the food. Very big disappointment! The prices have gone up by as much as $3 or more on EVERYTHING! What we would have normally paid for the meal we got last night was about $36... Ummmm last night FORTY-NINE DOLLARS! For rotten food!? Wow ...I called to let them know they should throw out their salad. Now we are truly regretting being too lazy to go to the grocery store! Our bad! Lesson learned.... I'm a Persian dude so I've been on the lookout for good middle eastern cuisine. Without a doubt, this place has the BEST hummus I've ever had. It's a family owned establishment, with a woman who does most of the cooking with her sons waiting the tables. Apparently she doesn't measure out the ingredients when she makes her hummus, just randomly throws a concoction together and it comes out the same every time. I think the difference between her hummus and other hummus is that she uses dry chickpeas and doesn't skimp on the tahini. It just has this unbelievable smoky flavor to it. My friends and I can go there and just order like 4-5 plates of hummus. I just don't know how they get it so creamy. The Baba Ghanouj and garlic dip are just as good as well. The lamb dishes are great, the service isn't spectacular, but really, the hummus is that good that this place still warrants 5 stars in my book. I can't even eat any other hummus anymore, it's that good. I have to stop by here on my way home from the grocery store to buy a couple packs of it. read more

Decent kabobs. The chicken shawarma I had was a bit dry and my gf's gyros were a bit greasy but overall it was not bad. For the price it's not bad and since Denver is kind of a wasteland for really good kebobs there aren't too many options out there to be picky about. read more

I moved to Denver from Brooklyn over a year ago, and one of the few things I've missed since the move is the amazing Middle Eastern food from our old neighborhood (Cobble Hill). Now that I've found Shish Kabob Grill that is no longer a problem. Their falafel was perfect - served hot and crispy right out of the frier. The hummous was amazing. The tabbuleh was perfect, if slightly on the salty side. The service was fine - it's a family run place so has some quirks but if you just relax and enjoy it they only add to the charm. This is going to be a regular lunch spot for me from now on. read more
