If zero, stars were an option, I would've given to Shoe Doctor 0 vs 1 star rating. I'm very disappointed to say that I used to be a great customer of shoe doctor for many years ...but the service has declined substantially over the last few years, and I will be finding a new shoe repair business. While they've always been a bit disorganized, they used to do good work for a relatively reasonable price. Over the last year or two they have become completely unreliable to the point where they take months vs. the promised week or two to complete a repair. And this time have lost my sandal for good!!! They often weren't answering their phone and if they do, they'd say they'd check on the repair or find it and called back- and never call back. I can't tell you how many calls I've made over the last two months and multiple trips into the store to try to get my favorite sandal back. Today I went in for the third time with the matching sandal to see if that would help Ricky find it and again he was unable and said he'd call me when he finds it. I asked him to just keep the remaining sandal and give me the $20 that he was going to charge me for the repair- and he refused, saying again that he'd find it and call me. That's a laugh, he'll never find it, and he certainly will never called me back. I understand that times are tough for small businesses especially, but when you are a business owner, you should not commit to doing work that you cannot follow through with. When I went to pick them up they weren't even touched but was told that they would be ready later that day. I decided to wait until the following Tuesday to pick them up. Frankly, I am surprised by the number of poor reviews I have read for this shop. All of my other shoe repair shops have one by one gone out of business, so I found the Shoe Doctor and gave him a try. So far, he did a beautiful job restoring my red high heels and dyeing a pair of leather flats. My husband had him put new heels on several pairs of Allen Edmunds, as well as resole a pair. We were both very satisfied with the work and price charged. I plan to use the Shoe Doctor next time we need repairs done. read more

I've been coming here for years and they do great work! I know they do ordinary shoe repairs as well, but I use them for major surgery on my athletic shoes (to correct for a leg length difference). I've never had a problem with their work--the shoe lift is always securely attached and the comfort of the shoe is retained. The only thing that keeps them from getting 5 stars from me is their timeliness. They consistently underestimate how long it will take to finish, and it seems like they really buckle down to finish only after I've called to check whether it's ready (days after it was promised). It's possible that this is purely due to the fact that inserting a lift is a BIG job, and there are plenty of other people who need their repairs more urgently, and they're honoring those requests (I've never really requested a rush job). Bottom line, I'd highly recommend them, but spell it out clearly if you've got a deadline. read more

I went to pick up my shoes and there was a sign on the door saying they were closed "for a few days". It has been a week and they are still closed with no way to get my shoes. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! As soon as you walk in you are welcomed with great music and smiling faces. The store front has a lot of cool memorabilia and shoes to look at. The staff are working on boots in the back which you can see as soon as you walk in as well. My new boots arrived today but the instep was tight. I took them to boot barn to see if they could stretch them for me but since they don't carry the brand of boot they suggested I come here so they could help me. At first the gentlemen told me I could pick them up tomorrow but I informed him I fly to Nashville for a wedding tomorrow early morning. He then told me he would stretch them as best he could since I was in a time crunch. He took them to the back and stretched them then had me try them on. He stretched them a little more and had me try them on again. They were a perfect fit after the second time trying them on. He sprayed them with a sealant to protect them for me as well. He told me to go out there and have fun then I can bring them back and he will doctor them up when I get back. Overall the staff here are really nice, personable, and helpful. They asked me what my trip was for and really made me feel like a friend not just another payday like some places make you feel. DON'T GO HERE-SHOE DOCTOR LOST MY $200 PAIR of SHOES I am writing this negative complaint to save people from my same experience. I went to the Shoe Doctor with a $200 pair of high-quality chocolate brown suede boots to get the heel nailed back on. He said they would be ready in a week. Went back, he hadn't gotten to them. He would say give me your name and number. He would scrawl it in a notebook which did not have the description of your shoes in it. He never called me. This went on for another 3 weeks. Keep in mind that when you take your shoes in, you receive a receipt that says they are only responsible for your shoes for 30 days. When I went in again close to the 4 week period, he said they still weren't ready. I mentioned that we would exceed the amount of time that he's responsible for the shoes in a few days; he said not to worry about it and come back again. I came back after a month. No shoes. He said he would call me. This cycle continued for 4 months. At this point, he said his son was coming in to organize the shop as the back room is just an unwieldy mess of shoes. I saw one of my shoes in a rack---the other one wasn't there. I assumed it was in the back being repaired. I asked about the status. He said the shoe still wasn't done. I came back the next month. He asked me when I brought the shoes in-I told him it was five months ago, and that I was worried because his receipt said he wasn't responsible for it after 30 days. He told me that wouldn't be a problem, and he would call. So the pattern of coming in, shoes not being ready, taking my number and name and not calling, and making excuses about his son coming in to organize the pile of shoes continues for MORE months. As it approached the one year mark, I was getting desperate. In the 12 months, I was stressed about not getting the shoes, and ultimately getting a sense that I would never see those expensive shoes again. I thought I would ask him if I could go in the back to find my shoes. He said no, he couldn't let me do that. I pleaded with him about my shoes. I said, "imagine if this were you." He told me had no time to look for my shoes; he was very busy. I told him I was frustrated because he has had my shoes for a year and sent me away each time. He then said, "a year? Oh, I'm not responsible for your shoes after 30 days." I was appalled. I mentioned that he told me in all those weekly and monthly visits that he told me it would be ok. He then told me to get out of the store (!) as he was busy. I asked him what do I need to do to get my shoes back. He asked for my name and number. I told him he had never called me in the one year we went through this. He said he once had a person's shoes for 2 years, and found them, and the person never came back for them. This was not reassuring! I asked him what would happen if he couldn't find my shoes. He said he would pay me for them. When I asked if he would put that in writing, he said, "I can't write." My stomach sunk. He had just taken my name and number down. I said, "you can, too. you just took my name down." I told him that this was not an ethical way to run a business and I just want my shoes back--whether they are repaired or not. He was menacing to me, and told me to leave the store as he had work to do. As a consumer, I don't want to be menaced or have my items held hostage by a store keeper. I have to accept that I am never going to get those shoes back. I suppose I could reach out to the Better Business Bureau. This whole experience was draining, and there are other shoe repair services 20 minutes away in Cerritos. Go to the Shoe Wiz for excellent, fast, kind customer service and great workmanship. The "Shoe Doctor" should lose his license due to "malpractice" if we want to keep up the medical analogy. Stay away. read more

I brought in 2 pair of boots to be resoled. When I went to go pick up the boots ( first pair) they were not done. He complained he could not find good help to assist him. Similar to the other recent posts, he takes a VERY long time to get you back your items. I brought my boots back in June for a simple re-glue of the sole and was quoted two weeks. Over the last 4 MONTHS I've had to return 5 times (and called numerous times) until I got them back. Every-time I called or went, I was told they'd be ready within a week. It really seemed like he lost them. So this final time I told him I want them back regardless if they are done or not. Surprisingly he was able to find them and give them to me. The only reason it isn't a one star review is because the shoes were re-glued well. But that's about it. I wanted to like this place as it has a lot of personality and is local, but to be honest it is not worth it. You can find better and faster services elsewhere. I have driven back and forth, 25 minutes each way from my home, and called multiple times, but to no avail. I brought my brand new Gucci belt in to have a few more holes added. He convinced me that it would be better to cut the belt and reattach the buckle. He told me adding more holes would look bad. Against my better judgement, I left my belt. He told me it would be done Saturday, my son went to pick it up and it wasn't ready. I went to pick it up Tuesday and he had ruined my belt. I paid and walked out. I went home and called him after showing a few friends to make sure I wasn't being petty. I explained his work was really poor and I wasn't satisfied. He told me, "I'm a repair shop and if you wanted it to look good you should have gone back to the factory". I explained if he wasn't capable of making it look nice he should have told me that. I explained the stitching was all over the place, the cut wasn't even and you could see the glue. Again, he told me he didn't ruin my belt and he was a repair shop and I should have gone to the factory. At this point I was in tears and said, "you should have never told me you could fix it". He got mad and told me to bring it back in and he'd do it again. I said there was no way to fix what he had done. He said, "I told you to bring it in and I'd fix it!" We used this shoe repair many times over the years. The quality is adequate. However we will not go back now. I took 3 pair of shoes and 2 purses in for refurbishment. He promised certain dates, some longer than others due to the work required. Ok. But, each time I went in to pick up a repair, the work was not even started and he made excuses about being so very busy. On one pair I went back twice on the promised dates, and still not done. Twice, he could not find my shoes as he has no system for organizing. He promised to call when work was done, He did not. Each time, he acted as if he was doing me a big favor and made me feel like I was pushing him. He also did not tell me that he send out his purses to be repaired. When I went in to get my first purse, that is when I learend that he sent out the work. The first one needed to be redyed - no repair at all. It took 6 weeks and I had to call mulitiple times. Each time, he told me the leather guy was so very busy. He acted as if I was unreasonable to expect work done when promised even the SECOND time he gave me a date that it would be done. Finally, I had to ask him to retrieve my 2nd purse that was not even started 3 months after taking it in. He said he would call me when he had it. He never did. After another week, I went in and it was sitting there in a bag. I knew that this one had a lot of repair work so I did not expect it to be done quickly but when I got it back all that was done was parts disassembled, so I got my bag back in pieces. This store is disorganized, not trustworthy for getting work started much less completed and the attitude of the owner is rude and disrespectful.
