Vahe did a wonderful job. I brought in old vintage sandals from South Africa that my girlfriend thrifted awhile back. The sole on both was cracked and the metal base was fully coming out of both shoes (I don't have good before pictures). I had taken them to several different spots and been told they were too damaged to be fixed. However, Vahe took one look at them and said he would try. I just got them back today and they are better than I ever expected (and I expected good things). My girlfriend loves them and feels so pretty in them, perfect timing for summer. I also appreciate Vahe's patience with me as I came in several times to check on their progress. Although it took him a few weeks it was well worth the wait and I love how he took his time to ensure that they were perfect. Nice guy, but completely inept. I took a pair of shoes to have new heels put on. A couple months later one of the heels fell off, and I had to have it reattached. No big deal and when I went to pick up the shoes, I asked the guy to keep them another day and clean them up and polish them. That's it. I went in the following day and the shoes were a completely different color, no personality whatsoever. In short, the shoes did not look anything like they looked even when they were new. Very fair prices. Quick turn around and nice staff. I don't feel taken advantage here. I got a quote from 2 other local places for simple strap replacement on some heels of mine and they seem to overcharge and inflate prices. I know the world is expensive now but smallwe businesses have to rely on return clients and unless they offer fair prices it's not gonna happen. I won't return to the man on magnolia who quoted me $35 to change a simple strap. It turned out to be $15 here. More than 50% less. read more

Ruined my wedding shoes! Brought them in for a cleaning and completely regretted it after I picked them up. The jewels looked tarnished and looks like he used a hard brush to clean SATIN shoes. Walk into the dry cleaners that hosts this little shop. Lady behind the counter tells me to go to the unmarked counter to the left. Stand and wait patiently until a guy with dirtied hands asks how he can help me. "Hi, yes, I would like the heel of this boot fixed. It's been wearing off for some time now." Dude: "You want to fix these things? They don't seem worth it." "Well, they ARE my favorite boots and I wear them all the time, thus my need to fix the tearing that has come with my continual wear." Dude: "Well, they aren't even real leather. You sure you want to put the money into them?" Does he seriously need to ask me this after I explain that these boots are a huge part of my fashion life? I must say that Mike at Shoe Renew is the real deal. Sure, I would've felt better if he were a bit more animated when I came in to talk about fixing my shoes, but I took it on faith and a recommendation from the illustrious Stephy S. I left a favorite pair of well-worn dress shoes and within a few days, I got a pair of shoes that were literally renewed. I have used shoe manufacturer's refurbishment services in the past, and Mike's work meets or exceeds anything I have ever gotten AND is cheaper and faster. Funny thing about people who are 'overly nonchalant' (as characterized by another Yelper). If you're good at what you do, it really is no big deal to do a good job, so why sell me on your ability? Because I don't know if you're truly good or you're just another a-hole who is nonchalant AND incompetent!) See Mike for excellent shoe repair but look elsewhere if you need to be convinced about it. Mike at Shoe Renew did me a solid. You know how it is: You buy some sweet vintage boots on eBay for a song, but after only 2 weeks, the heel cap on one falls off and looks wobbly on the other. Breaks your poor little vintage-loving heart. I brought them in to Shoe Renew and Mike nailed those suckers down for $10 and had them ready in 48 hours. He gets all my business now. A word of advice: The construction on Pass Ave south of the strip mall that houses Shoe Renew means you have to take the detour to Hollywood Way and then left on Oak. I took in some injured black boots. When I picked them up yesterday and took a look I was literally speechless for a moment. "WAIT THOSE ARE MY BOOTS?" I took a pair of black heels to get repaired. Only one heel had broken but I wanted Mr. Shoe Man to add some extra nails to the second one so I wouldn't be back in a month. He wasn't too crazy about that idea but I must have given him a look because he quickly said he'd do it. They were going to be ready in less than 2 days and when I went to pick them up they looked great. Heel was fixed and both shoes were shined up! The only reason I took off a star was because it cost $15.00. It seems a touch pricey but the last time I had shoes fixed was 7 years ago so many that's a good price. read more

I took my shoes in on a Monday and they were available by that Wednesday. It looks like they do a lot of work for the nearby studios. I've been hanging on to a favorite pair of busted heels for close to 2 years in the hopes of finding someone who could fix them for under $40, as I was quoted at 2 other places. Mike did it for $12. AND he buffed out all the scratches. I dropped them off on a Wednesday along with 3 other pairs of shoes (one pair needing extensive work), and got them all back Saturday morning. The best shoe repair in greater LA! I did a lot of research because I wanted a really great shoe repair. I brought my red Frye boots and two pairs of Frye heels to Mike. With some stretching, lamb skin, polishing and re-heeling, my shoes look as good as new and feel way BETTER than new. They are so comfortable I can wear them all day. And the price was under $50. I was looking for a place to get the scuffed up heels on my favorite leather boots fixed and saw shoe renew. I didn't expect much since I had gotten the same boots repaired once before at a different place. (All they did was sand and paint over the scuffs, they looked better but not great) Mike replaced the entire outside of the heel which I thought was leather ( he told me was vinyl) with leather and it actually looks better then it did new! This place is AMAZING. I took Stephy S. advice and checked it out--I had seriously been neglecting multiple pairs of shoes in various states of disrepair (do I walk funny or something? damn, every pair of shoes I own gets f*#ed up). I ended up getting three pairs completely resoled (go the rubber route, trust me), two pairs re-heeled and one polished for less than $130--that's basically 6 pairs of good as new shoes for the price of one (on sale). AND added bonus--dry cleaning and tailoring all in same building (with a super nice tailor who found me a 15% off coupon even after I broke a jumbo bottle of Snapple in his dressing room-oops)!!! add that to the Togo's in the same mini mall area and you have a perfect lunch time errand spot. Sloppy Workmanship & A Surly Attitude I read all the great reviews about Shoe Renew so I took a new pair of sandals that needed the straps adjusted to Mike. The work involved opening a seam, shortening the strap and re-sewing the strap back together. When I went back to pick the sandals up, the fit was OK but it looked like a five year old kid had done the stitching. My new $150.00 sandals were a disaster. I was courteous and realized there was no point asking to have the work done over, I didn't want to risk another bad job. I had also dropped off a pair of boots that were too snug in the toe area. When I tried on the boots it seem as though no work had been done. Mike got very surly when I mention this and insisted the shoe stretcher did not extend into the toe area of the shoe. Sorry Mike, I've had other shoes stretched in the toe box with no problems. So, bad workmanship and a bad attitude deserve to be mentioned on Yelp. read more
