Went here last night for a 7pm reservation. It was busy and loud in there but that's nothing I wouldn't expect. The restaurant is beautiful. I started with the beef Nigamaki (not sure if that's the right spelling) and the tartare trio. Both were fantastic. My 2 year old had the chicken satay and ate every bit of it. For an entree I went with the sea bass and lobster dumplings. Sadly this did nothing for me as it was flavorless. The manager explained that their customers enjoy the pure taste of the fish which is understandable but that's not what I was expecting. Our waitress was happy to exchange it so I went with a beef dish that was absolutely delicious. Overall I would absolutely go back however, I would much rather go to Buddhakan in Philadelphia. This place has become a disgusting mess. They do not honor reservations, so there are long waits to be randomly seated. There is all kinds of garbage on the floor and dirty plates piled up on the grill station from the last hibachi group can remain the entire time while you eat because they are too cheap to hire the appropriate staff. The utensils are flimsy and cheap, not what you'd expect when paying the expensive prices here. The average wait for a drink was about a half hour. The food servers are sloppy and we watched them pick food up off of dirty surfaces with their hands and put it back on the plate and serve it to patrons. Some of the people next us insisted on standing while eating which resulted in food falling from their mouths to our plates. To start off I've been to many sushi/hibachi places in the area, comparatively, it's pretty generic with their quality..... as for the menu selection, very similar to Kanji in Tinton falls (still my favorite), their drinks were awesome and their special rolls were creative. I had the best (yes the best) combinations of flavors in a sushi roll, although it was not authentic Japanese (what is lately) but it was a shrimp tempura and cucumber roll, with spicy crab, cilantro and caviar on top... the most amazing combination of flavors I've had. I also had a sushi entree which included a selection of sushi and a spicy tuna roll. Sushi was cut standard, quality was pretty even with sumo in town (but higher priced). The salad was great, mixed greens, fresh veggies (as opposed to a dull ice burg lettuce salad that is standard at most establishments), dressing was fresh, but a little watery/bland (nice effort), and the salad should be seasoned if going for their image (I'll explain later). The soup was a hot and sour soup, was nice, thick, hearty, could go down a notch on the sesame to taste the ingredients. My friend got veggie tempura, and a veggie roll, both satisfactory, the veggie roll was filling, large, and very creative (walnuts were the last thing we expected!). I have not tried their hibachi, although my friend has and says it's very good! He did comment on the presentation downstairs. The presentation was almost impeccable (cut of the white fish was not the highest in quality, looked as if it were near a vessel) besides that we started with a warm moist towel, chopsticks were real (not the throw away type) and had a gorgeous design, table was set with a formal tablecloth, were were provided with water, and service was immediate.... when i mean immediate, i mean the best I've ever had. I wish i got our servers name, because it was honestly the best service I've ever had at any restaurant I've been to in NYC or NJ. Our server filled our drinks, cleaned plates immediately, and we did not feel rushed at all. The only thing I was turned off about was the nasty look I received about having sandals on.... it was 80 degrees, sunny, I had a nice outfit on, and IT WAS EMPTY and lunch time... Dinner, I would understand, but from my understanding others have had a problem here. **Notes** Didn't have a wait when i went, so can't comment on busy times. Went for a nice lunch with a friend, quality was average to above average FOR THE AREA. Service.... the best(kanji you lose on this, sorry always compare to them cause they are the best around this region). Their drinks were great, had the lcyhee martini, friend had the rum drink... both awesome, strong and big enough. Creative menu, i hear they have very good hibachi. The bar is very nice, i would come here if in the area for drinks and picking at sushi. Bottom line- Better then most in the area. Very expensive, their image that they're going for isn't going to work, sorry. Unless you live on the west coast, or get better quality fish, you can't satisfy me with your price. Atmosphere was great, service was great, food creative, i would definitely come back.... 4 stars, don't' feel completely comfortable recommending for a full dinner with the price and not trying more of their selection, and their hibachi. Recommendation would be for drinks and sushi at the bar, or a nice lunch. I would honestly give 3 stars if it were not for their service, creative menu and the atmosphere.... Shogun Legends is amazing! I've been coming here for years now and I am never disappointed with the food. The sushi is very fresh. The Banzai roll and the Out of Control roll are two of my favorites. The hibachi is also very good! The bar area is the best spot in the restaurant. The one suggestion I have for Shogun is that they add Shumai to the menu. Went to Jersey to visit some friends. They made a turn off of a really busy highway and took us to an oasis of a restaurant. The place is so tranquil and cool on the inside, and the food is fantastic. Their Peking duck is delicious. Beautiful, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Sushi portions are large and very fresh. Drinks are interesting and tasty. Service is impeccable. Great for families and dates. Will definitely go again. read more

We go to Legends every once in a while. It's in a tough spot, every restaurant that has been there has seemed to struggle. Anyway, The decor is quite nice, with a large Saltwater tank with lots of fish crammed into it, The other night we went and they were pretty busy, but the service was fine. My wife ordered an appetizer of Shrimp tempura, that was good, pretty average but fine. I had the Gold Coin Fillet Medallions, it was very good, the sauce it was served with was excellent. My wife ordered the Chicken curry and also enjoyed it. I actually think this place is getting better over time. We will certainly return. read more

By far my favorite sushi place! If you are going to spend money on sushi please do so here! I'm a big fan of their sushi bar, and dinning area. Another plus side is that they have a bar, upstairs and downstairs. I recommend the Peppered Tuna Tataki! Best appetizer on the menu, tuna melts in your mouth! The sushi is always fresh, I have been to this place multiple times. The staff is always very friendly, service is decent at times. Sometimes they are understaffed, but, more often then not you're not waiting eons for your food. I have never paid for a desert there, always on the house! Tried this place the other day for the first time. The sushi is fresh and one of the best I've tried in area. Portions are small but filling and a little pricey. All in all I don't mind paying a little more for sushi that isn't mediocre. Definitely coming back here again. read more

We went for hibachi on Saturday night for a birthday celebration. We were seated in the upstairs hibachi section and the place was full and lively. Here's the problem: the service was PAINFULLY slow. I think it took us 20+ minutes to get our drinks. Order another one, and you're in for another 20 minute wait. It was 90 minutes before someone came to make our hibachi meals. The hibachi cook was very entertaining, as they usually are at any hibachi restaurant, and the food was good. While you don't want to be rushed in and out of a place, the service was simply way too unacceptably slow. read more

The Good: The food here is very good, and maybe (MAYBE) worth the crazy prices. The Bad: The beer selection has to be one of the worst for the caliber of restaurant it claims to be. I can only assume they make a good cocktail, but they really, REALLY, need to update their beer selection. They have every single generic domestic/ import bottled beer, but not a single craft beer, or micro brew. I really like this place. I used to come often when it was Meritage, and I was sad to see it change over but after going for a hibachi dinner with friends I was happy. Have been coming here for years. Food is consistent and very high quality. I come here strictly for dinners and sushi, the hibachi option is nothing extraordinary. The rolls are unique, creative and HUGE to say the least. The service is top notch and the banana dessert makes is literally the ice cream on top! I ate here with my family on Saturday night. We had a reservation for 4 at 7:00. We arrived 10 minutes early, and we were barely greeted. It took a few minutes, but they finally found our name under their reservations. We were then led back to hands down the worst table in the restaurant. We asked to be moved to a booth, since there were several open. We were very rudely told the booths were already reserved for larger parties coming in. We asked how long the wait would be for any other table, and when the hostess never returned, we just sat down. Less than five minutes later, both the booths were sat with parties of 3 and 4. On our way out, I asked the hostess why those booths ended up being sat with smaller parties, and she rudely told me both larger parties didn't show up! How funny! She was so unpleasant, unprofessional, and nasty that because of her, we will definitely not be back. read more

This is our go to place for Habatchi.. it's 5:00 and we are the only ones here. We placed our order and usually they come with the hot cloths to wash your hands.. we didn't get them. I have never had a bad meal here. In fact, the place ranks in my top five sushi places in NJ, and I'm a foodie with a sushi addiction. The only issue in my recent visit was some spotty service. We passed this place for years too and finally decided to stop...We are so glad we did!!! The sushi is delicious and really creative with the different combinations of fishes and flavors used. We now go at least once a week. We would go more often if we lived near by. They have a large selection of Asian foods on the menu. Everything is terrific! Also we want to mention Paul their manager.
